Ancestors: The Humankind Odyssey Walkthrough and Guide

Ancestors: The Humankind Odyssey is a third-person survival game where you control a member of a primate clan and have to manage their health by eating, drinking, and sleeping. The game starts in an African jungle, an open world filled with dangers that include giant Miocene otters, Adcrocuta hyenas, Machairodus, Crocodylus thorbjarnarsoni, Metridiochoerus, African Rock Python, and African buffalo. The objective of the game is to ensure the primate clan's survival as it slowly evolves and becomes a new species. As the clan grows, you will be able to switch to play as other characters such as an infant, an adult, an elder, and a mother carrying her child. Check out our Ancestors: The Humankind Odyssey Walkthrough and Guide to get help in the game.

Keep Basic Needs High

It is essential that you keep your 3 basic needs high; Sleep, Hunger, Thirst. The best time to fullfill these needs is first thing in the morninng and then continually forage while on the move during the day.

Sleeping

To begin with you will need to sleep until the green health in the bottom center of the screen stops growing, this will be about 10 hours of night. As you progress in the game you will be able to reduce the amount of sleep needed through genetic unlocks.

Finding Food and Water

Food and water is plentiful and can be found everywhere, you will be able to physically see it using Experience , or Heard/Smelled. When you find water you will need to use both hands to scoop.

Health Bar

Keep an eye on your Health bar in the bottom center of the screen. This guage will turn from green (normal), to yellow (tired/drained), to red (permanent damage, death upon emptying). When the it becomes yellow you need to stop what you are doing and rest so allow the Health bar to replenish.

Red Damage Injuries

Injuries that result in red damage will cause permanent health damage that cannot be recovered. If the permanent damage becomes too high you will need to change to a healthier ape.

Keep Dopamine Level High

Make sure you keep your dopamine level high to ensure your ape doesn't run off into the wilderness when it gets scared. You can check you dopamine level in the bottom left corner of the screen. Having a high dopamine level results in higher confidence, and increases your success rate of completing tasks, counter attacking, and intimidating predators.

How to Obtain Experience

Experience is obtained through neuron energy. This is generated by doing tasks requiring your brain while in the presence of baby hominid apes. You can see the level of your neuron energy by looking at the the white circle in the bottom right corner of the screen. Use this feature to learn what tasks generate energy, you will find that they will mostly be tasks that requires an action. You can maximise neuron energy generation by aways carrying 2 babies with you.

How to Get More Experience

Get into the habit of experimenting with everything at least twice as doing something new unlocks experience. Even sharpening a stick using a different kind of rock unlocks experience. Doing most tasks twice will unlock an Evolutionary Feat.

How to Unlock New Areas

New areas are uncovered in Ancestors: The Humankind Oddyseey by migrating. This requires you to 'Conquer your Fears' by travelling to the center (big white circle, opposite of the big blue circle) of a new area to unlock it. Elders can travel further without conquering their fears.

Unlock New Skills

Dont just use your your Intelligence to visual focus to find things. Using your olfactory (smell) senses and hearing will enable you to new branches to your skill tree and progresses your abilities. You will find that it is often easier to smell and hear predators and food than to physically see it.

How to Mate

In Ancestors: The Human Odyssey you can only mate with un-related females/males and have it result in pregnancy. To initiate this you must 'Form a Couple'. This procedure requires you to approach the mate and 'Groom' it until the couple is formed. Once this has happened you need to move to a bed and 'Call Mate'. Then after an hour or so has passed a pregnancy will occur if the mating was successful.

How to Breed the Next Generation

The Babies that result from pregnancy will always be male and female. The optimal way to breed the next generation is to breed this male and female pair with its male and female cousin pair. You will be able to expand your clan by recruiting lone female hominid apes that you find in the wild.

How to Recruit Lone Apes

When you explore the wild you will encounter lone hominid apes. Each one will have a specific need that must be fulfilled before they will join you. You will need to observe the hominid ape to determine its nees.

• Frightened (looking around, cowering):

Comfort it

• Stomach Groans:

Needs food

• Holding Stomach:

Poisoned, requires medicine (snails, scorpions, and mushrooms) to cure.

• Groaning (banging on its head):

Thirsty, bring it a egg or coconut.

• Sick (vomiting):

Needs fluids, coconuts work.

How to Cure Bleeding

You will be able to cure bleeding using the bark of a tree that is found in jungle trees (kapok fibers), or aloe which you will be able to find in the desert area. Bleeding can also be cured by refining horsetail.

Where to Find Precious Stones

You will find blue precious stones in caves, green ones near waterfalls, and red ones on cliffs. These coloured precious stones have no real use other than being an indestructible rock.
