Keep an eye out for rats as eating them is the only way to top up your blood power bar between fights. You will be able to locate them using your vampire sense or by the teeth prompt.
Don't forget Dr Ried has a teleport ability that is activated when he looks up at certain raised areas. Take advantage of this ability whenever possible to find new routes into areas and sneak past enemies.
You will find that everything you can pick up is useful, whether it's to make medicine or to upgrade weapons or sell. If you pick up everything you come across you will find that you will never run out of resources.
It is very important that you try and talk to people at every available opportunity as some of the hints annd options you need to discover can only be unlocked by speaking ot other people and investigating.
Although it only knocks the enemy back and does not do much damage make sure you don't neglect your secondary stun attack. Using your stun attack will deplete your foes stamina allowing you to bite them to top up your blood and use vampire abilities.
It is vital that you do not ignore your stamina as you can only attack and use vampire abilities while it is full. There's no point having these great skills if you can't use them.
Before you go to bed you will be able to spend the XP you have accumulated. Remember that doing this ends the night and weighs up anything you have done so it is advised that you first finish any investigations, check there's no conversations to have and try to leave nothing to carry over. It is important that you do this as it allows you to go to bed with the maximum XP and also help minimise the amount of times the world changes which more often than not will be for the worse.
Although you will get a big boost of XP when you kill someone it is more beneficial in the early stages of the game to allow them to live and instead get the XP via investigations, exploring and conversations. Later in the game when upgrades become costly is the best time to kill people off for the XP you get as a reward.
Resist the temptation of killing people at random straight from the start of the game as it is not always clear how important a person is, who they are and who they know. If you kill someone without knowing these things you will lose the conversation topics and clues they may have given you.
