One healthy node should offer nearly 100 coal.

To make Steel so you can upgrade your weapons you will need to acquire Brimstone and Tar. Brimstone is a pale-coloured rock that is commonly found in large caves and Tar can be obtained by tanning Hide and Thick Hide in the Tannery. Once you have both, you need to combine them in a cauldron to get Steel Fire. The next process is to combine Steel Fire with Iron Bars in a furnace. If done correctly you will be rewarded with Steel which you can then use to craft better weapons.
