She discovers that the words that can control the Thralls is written on a plate that�s hidden underneath the mansion. Also, the blue substance called Eitr, can be found everywhere. Approach the bridge ahead and pick up a medipack to the left of it. As soon as you jump onto the bridge it will collapse, so jump again and throw your grappling hook to grab a ring attached to the part of the bridge that remains standing. Swing back and forth to gain speed and jump to the other side, where you can use your secondary weapon to kill the big spider. It is preferred that you use a shotgun for this level. Turn right from the bridge, to find another pot against the wall containing a treasure [2]. At the exact opposite wall you can climb up using two beams. Jump backwards from the top one to grab onto the broken bridge, follow it to the right by shimmying to get to the third treasure [3]. Shoot some bats that will fly towards you, then drop down and grow your grappling hook right after letting go to grab one of the two rings attached to the bridge. Instead of swinging to an end of the bridge, turn towards a platform in the corner. Lower yourself a little on the cable, then swing back and forth and jump towards the platform. Here you can find another medipack. Climb up on the left using the platforms, shoot some small spiders and jump back and forth in the alcove to get higher up. Crawl through the tunnel at the top until you can stand again, there�s another treasure [4] in the shallow water ahead of you. Just past it you can jump between the walls to get to the top of the waterfall. There are two switches on the walls here, first pull the right one and then the left one. Quickly drop back down again and grab the beam on the wall to the right, which you can now get to because the gate has gone up. Jump straight up to grab the gate itself, then move left and jump in that direction to reach another beam. Shimmy to the left end of it and then jump up to grab a ledge above you. Jump backwards to grab a ledge attached to the second raised gate, then jump up to get to a ledge higher up. Do another backward jump from there to grab the tob ledge of the first gate. Stay there and wait for the sound of the other gate you just come from dropping down, then quickly do another backward jump to get to a platform above that gate. Crawl into the low tunnel to find a treasure [5] at the end, then you can turn around and crawl back again. Jump directly to the oher side, over the gate that has dropped down by now as well. Crawl into the other tunnel there, it�s a lot longer and ends in a large room with a big water wheel. As soon as you can stand again, shoot three bats and then just jump into the water below. You can see a raft stuck to chain under water almost on the opposite side of the room, shoot the connection point so that the raft will float to the surface. Climb onto it and look into the direction of where you came from, there�s a ring attached to the wall there. Grab it with your grappling hook and pull the cable to slowly get to the far pillar. Before you climb its ledges first jump into the water again and pick up the treasure [6] behind that pillar on the bottom. Get on the raft again to climb the front of the pillar using the different ledges. Jump to the left at the top to grab an extended beam, follow it to the little platform in the corner and kick another jar for another treasure [7]. ___ ___ ____________________________________________________________________ | 3 | 2 | FATHER�S SECRET STUDY � PART II (TREASURE 8 TO 14) | ��� ��� �������������������������������������������������������������������� Stand on the beam again and now jump to another beam on the water wheel, from there you can grab and climb onto another higher beam. Grab a board attached to the water wheel from there and make a jump to the right. Grab the board above you, move to the left and stand on top of the beam. You can see a ring on the wall on the opposite side, with a pipe underneath it with water coming out. Jump towards it and quickly grab on to the ring with your grappling hook. Hang at the right altitude on your cable and jump straight into the tunnel, where you pick up a treasure [8] before jumping back down into the water. Then climb back across the water wheel until you get to the beam you where standing on before you jumped. Jump to the next beam, grab the board on the water wheel and jump sideways to the right. Stand on the extended beam and jump to the platform in the corner to the right of the water wheel. There�s a ring here and you need to attach your grappling hook to it, after which you walk off the edge and lower yourself along your cable. Swing forward a bit and jump toward a lower platform. From the extended beam attached to it you can reach a bar inside the large alcove. By hanging on it a gate under water will open, so let go of the bar and swim through the now open tunnel. As soon as you swim out of the first part, go up a bit and into a tunnel with a dead end to the right, where there�s a treasure [9] behind the broken grating. Turn around, swim out of the short section and then through the next tunnel. There�s a strong current, but you�ll manage to get through. As soon as you swim out of the circular tunnel you can look in one of the corners of the square area for another treasure [10]. Swim upwards, to get out of the water at the surface. There�s gate on one side, an open passage on the other where you need to go through. As soon as you continue through the hallway to the left some small spiders and a big one will appear, take out the latter with your shotgun. Continue to the pillar in the next room. Climb up, stand on it and turn towards where you came from. To the right in a corner is a small platform, jump onto it to get another treasure [11] from the jar. Look around you to see if there are any small spiders still walking around and are within range. Using the same pillar below you can jump to the other side and grab an extended pole, use it to swong to the platform behind it. There�s another medipack you can pick up here. Descend to the pillar again and walk towards the next passage. A knight will show up, take him out with your shotgun and don�t forget to jump on him when he goes down, to prevent him from getting up. Go to the right in the next room, to find another medipack at the end. Turn around and you can see a ring on the wall above the passage you came through. Grab it with your grappling hook and then walk through the opening exactly behind you. Lower yourself as much as possible and then let go. Two knights will jump into the pit one after the other, shoot them with your shotgun and jump on them when they go down. Follow the wall you descended along to the right, you�ll come to a corridor and a medipack just right of that. Continue through his corridor and as soon as you enter a larger room at the other end, another knight will appear and then a large spider. Take them out and climb the pillar across from the entrance. Jump to the extended beam in the corner and then through the opening in the wall. Walk further a bit and shoot some small spiders, a bigger one will appear when you enter the room at the end. When it is taken out, smash the jar for a treasure [12]. Return to the previous big room and jump back to the beam. Turn around and jump against the wall to the right of the opening and then jump again immediately. You will push off against the wall and reach a pole higher on the wall. Climb onto it and jump across the wall, quickly throw your grappling hook to run along the wall and then jump towards the opening in the far corner. Go inside, grab a medipack on the left and continue in the other direction. Shoot the knight that comes walking down the stairs, kick him to pieces and do the same thing to the jar on the right at the top of the stairs for another treasure [13]. If you continue on a bit three bats will appear, shoot them before grabbing the pole on the left wall. Climb on top of it and jump to the ledge on the back wall. Follow the ledges to the right, jump sideways in that direction, move right again a little and then let go to grab the corner ledge. Shimmy around the corner and jump to the right to reach a pillar that comes from all the way down. Shoot another three bats and then climb down along the pillar. If you turn around, you can go both left and right. There�s a pot in the back left with a treasure [14] and you�ll need to kill a big spider before you can get to it. ___ ___ ____________________________________________________________________ | 3 | 3 | FATHER�S SECRET STUDY � PART III (TREASURE 15 TO 21) | ��� ��� �������������������������������������������������������������������� To the right is another treasure [15] in an alcove at the end. Return to the high pillar and climb back up. Stand on top of the pillar and jump to the platform at the bottom of some other stairs. Grab the medipack immediately to your right in the corner, then head up the stairs. If all goes well you have nothing to fear from the Thrall that comes your way, he�ll probably be destroyed by the spiked walls. Run between them when they open, go around the corner and jump back and forth in the narrow part just before the pit to get to a higher ledge. Move towards the spiked walls and jump that way to grab a pole between the walls. Climb onto it and jump to the next one as soon as the spears open, you�ll then be swinging on the next pole which you can let go after the spears have retreated. Once on the other side, follow the corridor further and shoot a large spider as soon as you enter the next big room. Descend the stairs on the left and drop down at the end. Two Thrall knights will appear and also some bats at the same time. Shoot them and head to the other side of the room, where there�s a pot in an alcove containing a treasure [16]. If you walk around the large device in the center of the room you can find another treasure [17] behind it in a pot. Immediately to the right of it you can climb to a platform using two ledges, pick up a medipack there. Higher on the wall you can find a ring, grab it with your grappling hook. Walk against the wall and pull yourself up along the cable, so that you can run left and right on the wall. Jump to the right to grab a ledge, follow it to the right and jump sideways to reach a beam. Climb onto it and jump to the wooden platform, where you�ll be attacked by a big spider and a bunch of bats. Jump towards the device in the center of the room to grab a ledge on it. Follow this ledge clockwise around the device until you reach a beam leading to the wall. Climb onto this beam and then onto the higher platform at the end of it, where you can smash a pot in the back left corner to get a treasure [18] from it. On this platform you can also see two pillars with a ring attached to them. Your goal is to bring these pillars together through the groove in the floor. To do this, first grab one of the pillars with your grappling hook. Then walk around the other pillar and back to the middle. Then pull the cable to pull both pillars towards the center simultaneously, when they touch each other they will disappear into the ground and a gate will open in a corner of the room. Jump along the back wall of the platform to the right to grab a ledge and be able to jump to this new opening, go through it to end up back in the room with the large water wheel. Make a running jump straight into the room. On the back wall there�s a ring you need to quickly grab with your grappling hook, so that you don�t fall into the water and are able to climb up along your cable. Run left and right along the wall and jump to the left to land on some stairs and shoot some bats from there. Walk up the stairs and to the end of the beam attached to the platform. You can see a slightly moving pole diagonally in front of you, jump towards it. If you manage to do that, the flow of water that appears will activate the large water wheel, making the device in the previous room turn. Let go of the pole and jump into the water below, where you can use the ledges near the raft to climb back up to the platform in the corner and walk into the previous room with the turning machine. A knight will appear as soon as you enter, so take him out before climbing up immediately to your right. Use the ring on the wall to swing to the ledges on the right again, follow those to the right and jump from the beam to the platform. Again you have to jump to the device, but that�s dangerous now because you can�t end up between the grinders. You can safely jump to the stone ledge below the middle rotating part, then you have to wait for a grabable ledge appears above you. Grab onto it and you will move counter-clockwise. Shimmy to the right on this ledge as far as possible and then grab the ledge above you, from there you can jump up before you reach the grinder to a stone ledge that doesn�t turn. Move as far to the right as possible and grab the ledge above you as soon as it moves within reach. Quickly shimmy to the right along that ledge and jump backwards right when you�re between the device and a pillar behind you, to jump to that pillar. Jump off to the wooden platform, where you shoot a large spider on the left and pick up a treasure [19] on the right. Head into the spider�s direction and jump to the beams in the corner, follow those to the left. At the end, jump to the ledge attached to the opened fence and then right into the corridor. Pick up a medipack around the corner, then descend along the stairs. In the next room a Thrall will appear along with some bats, run backwards while firing if necessary to prevent getting hurt. When you�ve cleared them, throw your grappling hook to the ring in the ceiling and swing towards the small corner platform in front of you where you can see a treasure [20]. Grab the ledge above this platform and follow this all the way around the wall pillar. Let go to grab a lower ledge and from its left end you have to jump backwards to a pillar. Lower yourself to the floor below, where there�s a pot you can get a treasure [21] from. A spider will appear if you do so. ___ ___ ____________________________________________________________________ | 3 | 4 | FATHER�S SECRET STUDY � PART IV (TREASURE 22 TO 28 + RELIC) | ��� ��� �������������������������������������������������������������������� After taking out the spider you can grab another treasure [22] from the other pot, this will make another spider appear and you have to kill it. Opposite one of the treasures you can also find another medipack to pick up. Return to the pillar you used to get down here and climb back up. Jump back to the ledge on the wall, follow it to the right and climb up to the highest ledge on the left side of the wall pillar. Make a backward jump to the pole and swing to the next wall pillar right away. Follow that ledge to the left and jump sideways in that direction to land on the other side. Carefully walk into the next hallway, a knight will appear with some bats around him. Try to select those as a target manually to be able to shoot them down before the Thrall gets to you, then shoot him with your shotgun. Follow the hallway around the corner and you�ll come to multiple spear traps in a row. On the left higher up there�s a ring on the wall, grab it with your grappling hook and climb up against the wall as high as possible. Then make a backward jump to get to a ledge on the opposite wall, from there you can jump left to grab a pole. To make it easier on yourself it�s probably smart to first move to the center of the pole, then swing around it and let go at the right time to jump through the first spear trap. Repeat this again twice more to land on the other side and shoot a large spider around the corner. Follow the corridor to a large room at the end, lower yourself on the edge and then let go to safely drop down and kill another big spider. Go over to the pillar next to the fence, climb on top of it and jump to a beam diagonally behind you coming from the wall to the right of the fence. There�s a whole route of small ledges spread out across this wall, follow it to the right and up, then back to the left to eventually reach a small alcove with a treasure [23] in it. Go back along the same route to get down safely, then climb the same pillar again. Now just jump over the fence and swim to the passage in the back left, where you can climb out of the water. Turn around and jump to the beam extended above the water. Jump against the wall to the right of the opening and then again right away to grab a pole above the beam. Climb onto it and jump along the wall, quickly throw your grappling hook to grab a ring higher up. Instead of running to the passage on the right, shorten your cable a bit and jump to the right onto a platform. There�s another pot here you can get a treasure [24] out of. Stand inside the door opening and try to shoot down the large spider in the room before jumping to the pillar. Lower yourself to the floor and cross to the other side of the room, where you climb another pillar and jump to the platform against the wall to pick up another treasure [25]. Lower yourself back to the floor again and crawl into a tunnel just next to the pillar you just climbed. Jump into the water at the end and climb out of it on the right side ahead. Turn around and jump to a higher platform, where inside a short tunnel you can find the relic <1> of this level. Return to where you came from through the long tunnel, climb into the pillar on the right there and jump through the exit and into the water below. There�s a tunnel beneath the surface, swim through it and climb out of the water on the left. Climb onto the pillar next to the fence and jump to the beam on the wall left of it. Grab the ledges above you, jump sideways to the right and move around the corner so that you get to a ladder you can follow to the top. There are some statues of dragons here and also some movable plates on the floor. There are images on those plates, which are the head, the tail and the body of a dragon. Stand on the plate with the image of the dragon�s body, the one closest to the passage. Throw your grappling hook to a ring on the other side of that passage and pull the cable to move the plate towards the entrance. Do the same with the tile that has the dragon�s tail on it. Your next goal is to pull the other plate, the one with the dragon�s head, out of the side-branch it is in now and move it to the other side-branch. You can do this by attaching your grappling hook to the ring, walking around the dragon statue to the right of the passage and then standing on the plate. By pulling the cable now you will move the plate towards the side-branch next to the statue you wrapped your cable around. Make sure it�s really in the right position, then you can wrap your cable around the middle statue and pull the plate with the dragon�s tail towards it. Use the same technique to pull this plate into the other side-branch, then use the middle statue again to pull the last plate into its position in the center. Now that the image of the dragon is complete, a gate will open below the ring you were using all the time. Walk through it and attach your grappling hook to the dragon statue over there, then walk backwards and pull this new statue towards the puzzle you just solved to activate two large pillars below with spinning blades on them. First go back to the spot where the dragon statue with the ring was, because you can find another medipack in this room. Then return to the puzzle and just jump into the water with the two spinning towers. Exactly on the opposite side there�s a small platform where you can climb out of the water. Do that and use the ledge on the wall to get to the beam just above you on the right. There�s a ring at the top of the wall, you have to grab it with your grappling hook after jumping left along the wall. Shorten the cable so that you get up higher, but don�t make it too short. What you need to do is run left and right along the wall and jump to the left to get to a ledge ahead. Using another ledge you can climb into an alcove and pick up a treasure [26]. Jump back into the water and climb back onto the beam using the little platform and the ledge. Grab the ledge to the right of it on the wall and jump towards a second beam. From here you can jump to the rotating tower with the blades, which you have to climb to the top while moving and jumping between the blades. You can see a platform with a treasure on it on the other side when you�re at the top, just jump towards it and grab the treasure [27]. Using the beam on the platform you can jump back to the rotating tower and stand on the top again. In the distance behind the fence you can see a courtyard with a gate. Jump in that direction and quickly throw your grappling hook to the ring in the ceiling. Hanging from the cable, turn right to see another treasure in a pipe in the wall. Turn and swing in the right direction at the right altitude and jump towards the pipe. If you make it you can pull up and pick up the treasure [28]. From here you can just jump back outside and quickly grab onto the ring in the ceiling with your grappling hook. Turn right and swing far enough to land on the other side of the fence after letting go. A Thrall will appear from the magical water, take him out and look around to see that there are four gates here with magical water behind it and also a large, closed entrance. At every gate there�s a switch on the wall in the shape of a beam, you must hang on it to close the fence of that specific gate. As soon as you start doing this, Thralls will come crawling out of the magical water where you haven�t closed the gates yet. You can continue to fight them, but eventually you need to close the fences of all four gates. So try to run to open gates in between fights and pull the switch down before Thralls get too close. After closing all four side-gates, the passage behind the large entrance will be entirely clear, so walk to the end of that hallway to meet Lara�s doppelganger and complete the level. +---+------------------------------------------------------------------------+ | 4 | C O N C L U S I O N | +---+------------------------------------------------------------------------+ ___ ___ ____________________________________________________________________ | 4 | 1 | FINAL WORD | ��� ��� �������������������������������������������������������������������� In the end, Underworld wasn�t really a bad game. Despite the game�s length, the story was interesting and contributes to the history of Lara Croft. This Beneath the Ashes level should have been in the full game in the first place and it by itself to short for what you pay for.
