Press Ctrl+F, then type in the below code (or if you know what you're looking
for, simply use that word) to jump to it quickly.
Note: For things like Private Actions and Quests, you can simply type in, for
example, Private Action 001 or Quest 001, to skip right to the first PA or
Quest. It might be faster to go to your current point, but this will work as
well if you choose.

[ATG] About This Guide
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Well, this is my first (submitted) guide...ever. I've always wanted to make
one, so why not start with a game of a series I really love that's a part of
my favorite genre: Star Ocean 4. I hope it turns out well, and please contact
me at [email protected] if something happens to be wrong, or if you have
something you would like to contribute.
As in (most) of these guides, I do NOT own Star Ocean, this particular entry
of Star Ocean, and the art or music of this particular entry or series in
general. They are owned by Square Enix and tri-Ace, and they own the artwork
as well.
I DO own this guide, and thus I would like if I am contacted if anyone tries
to sell this guide when I intended for it to be a free product. Please and
thank you for doing that should the need arise. :)

[GAM] Gameplay
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Just some basic things to help people figure out things about JRPGs in general,
or just understand the unique things about this particular game.
------
Basics
------
Star Ocean: The Last Hope (which I'll randomly refer to as SO4 or Star Ocean 4
at times) is a JRPG, or Japanese Role Playing Game. And as a JRPG, there are
going to be similar concepts. At its core, it's simple RPG stuff. You go to
towns, buy items from shops, explore the world (universe in this case), fight
monsters, get treasure, and progress the plot further through various scenes.
You gain experience and money (known as "Fol" in the Star Ocean series) from
fighting, which goes towards leveling up your characters so they can get
stronger and buy items or equipment from various shops respectively.
-------------
Battle System
-------------
Star Ocean: The Last Hope is an Action-RPG, like previous games in the Star
Ocean series. This means that unlike say, Final Fantasy or Dragon Quest, all
actions occur in real time with no wait times or pauses between the action. As
you fight spells can go off, your party members can fight, and enemies can
fight all at the same time, there is no charge or wait time between all this.
Similar to Star Ocean: Till the End of Time (SO3), enemies are visible on the
field and can be avoided. Like Star Ocean's cousin series, "Tales Of", battles
occur on a separate area from where you were exploring. Returning from Star
Ocean 1 and 2 is a four-character party within battle. During battle you
control one character, and the rest are controlled by an AI system that you
can customize somewhat so the AI prioritizes different things, like linking
combos or healing.
Within battle you have basic things for the buttons like attacking, opening
the menu, and jumping. There are buttons to switch control to another
character on the fly and all that. Through the menu you can access items,
change your party within battle (new feature to the series), change equipment
or skills, etc.
Each party member has HP, MP, and a Rush Gauge. HP is your Health Points. It
decreases from being hit by the enemy's attacks, and it can be recovered
through items, skills, spells, or resting at various places. If it reaches 0,
that character is unconscious and unless revived in or out of battle they
won't be able to fight. MP is your Mental Points. It decreases as you use
skills or spells, which consume MP (yes MP kill haters, there is no MP kill in
SO4), and it's also recovered by items or resting at various places. The Rush
gauge is a different mechanic and will be explained later.
------------------------------
Combo linking and Instant Cast
------------------------------
A feature returning from Star Ocean 3 is combo linking and the combo bonus.
You can set up to six skills or Symbology (spells) to the Left and Right
triggers (three per trigger). Pressing these buttons uses the skills, and as
you may have figured out pressing them in quick succession goes down the order
you set them to (#1 goes off first, press it again and #2 goes off, press it
gain and #3 goes off). You don't have to do a LT->RT->LT->RT order either,
you're free to press RT three times to use all three skills/spells you set to
the RT, or press LT twice for two of your three set skills/spells, then press
RT for the first RT skill/spell, then press LT, then press RT twice for all
six. The buttons go in order of when that button was pressed, not in order of
the skills used ( so if you use your #1 and #2 LT skills, pressing RT will use
the #1 RT skill, not the #3 one), and the number resets (#1->#2->#3, then it
goes back to #1) so remember that.
After doing a basic attack you can link a skill to it by pressing one of the
triggers with the skill on it after the attack(s), adding more hits and more
damage. If you link combos together, you get an increase to the amount of
damage done by the attack. So if you do a basic attack, then link a skill to
it, you get a 150% bonus, which means the skill will do 1.5 times more damage.
The more linking you do the more the bonus goes up (to a certain limit). This
helps to encourage you to link skills so you can not only link more attacks,
but so you can do more damage. The increased number of skills you can set can
be used to your advantage to work in skills that link together best to get the
highest damage and/or combo possible, so I recommend trying to play around
with your skills.
Instant Cast is a new feature to SO4. Like in Star Ocean 3, Symbology can be
set to skill buttons, so you can link them together, for the same combo
bonuses that melee skills would give. Spells, like a couple of (J)RPG series
out there, have a short or somewhat long casting time before the spell goes
off. The difference here is that as you link skills, eventually you'll get
zero casting time between them, allowing you to cast any spell without having
to wait some time for the chant to finish. Like with skills, you can set up to
six spells, so of course a good way to take advantage of this would be to set
weaker Symbology with short chanting times first, and set the stronger ones
(that will probably have longer chanting time) last so you can use them
quickly and efficiently.
----------
Rush Gauge
----------
One of SO4's most notable features is the Rush Gauge. It's the third bar, and
both party members and enemies have it. The bar increases for both you and
enemy's as you attack and get attacked, and has certain bonuses when maxed out.
It also plays a similar role to SO3's Fury Gauge, in that it prevents you from
beating the enemy to a pulp without any consequences or the enemy being able
to fight back.
Once it's maxed out, you can go into "Rush Mode", in which there are a few
bonuses. One is that you can't get staggered (the little stun animation that
occurs when you or the enemy gets hit) and take less damage. This allows you
or the enemy to go nuts without being knocked out of their combo or attacks
from another attack and getting destroyed by other attacks. The second bonus
is that your movement and attack speed increases, effectively making you a
really crazy fighter for a short time. As I've said earlier, enemies have the
same bonuses you do, so once they go into Rush Mode they'll become a much
bigger pain to deal with, making it something to watch for both you and the
enemy you're fighting.
Another thing is the Rush Combo. Once you go into Rush Mode and have the Rush
Gauge maxed, you're able to do a powerful and flashy little attack on your
target. You're also able to work your party in to add to the damage done, and
enemies will not go into Rush Mode during this, making it a very effective
attack on any enemy. There are also various little button sequences spread
throughout the attack that you have to press.
---------
Blindside
---------
Another new feature is the Blindside. There's not much to explain, but it's a
quick dodge and strike attack, with the whole process shown in slow-mo, pretty
flashy. It's useful for dodging attacks and/or getting in your own good whack
or two at the enemy. By pressing/holding B the character you're controlling
will charge up, and once the enemy targets you and the target flashes, you can
use a Blindside attack by tilting the stick in a direction while holding B.
Hold B for too long and you'll screw up though, making the character tired and
leaving you vulnerable.
-----------
Bonus Board
-----------
Another thing returning from SO3 somewhat is the ability to gain little things
to get certain bonuses after battle. This time it's a board, and can be fitted
with jewels acquired from doing certain things in battle. You can get more
than one of each, so you can stack the bonuses. Like in SO3, the board can
break and you can lose bonuses if certain things happen, like taking a
critical hit or running away from battle.
Blue: Experience +10%. Finish with a critical hit.
Yellow: Fol +10%. Defeat multiple enemies at once.
Pink: HP/MP recovery after battles +1%. Defeat an enemy using only skills.
Green: +1 SP point to party. Gotten during Ambushes.
You have a maximum of 14 jewels on the board, with the ability to put as many
of a particular jewel you want. So you can have a maximum of +140% bonus exp,
+140% Fol, 14% HP/MP recovery, and +14 to Party SP.
------
Skills
------
Skills are back like every other SO game. There are skills for battle and some
for the field or Item Creation. Because of their use in and out of battle,
they'll have uses throughout the entirety of the game, so they'll be a major
part of getting through some things in the game.
Besides skills as in attacks, there are other skills that can be used in
battle. Some are used to help you, like decreasing chanting time when casting
Symbology, others are there to help you analyze the enemy.
SP is also back, and you have both party SP and individual SP. Both can be
used to level up each character's skills.
On the field are certain other command skills. For example, Edge has a dash
skill which lets you run faster, and Bacchus can mine in some areas for items.
Then you have Item Creation skills, which are used for, of course, item
creation to allow you to make certain items or get better at making other ones.
----
BEAT
----
Another new feature to the SO series added to this game, BEAT. BEAT (or Battle
Enhancement Attribute Type) is a new system created for you to customize
characters to your style. By participating in battles with your BEAT type,
your rank in that BEAT will go up. This will allow you to get new actions and
increase your abilities.
For example, one BEAT type is BEAT S, which specializes in the Blindside
system. It's a style that focuses on the enemy's blind spots with Blindside
and stats like Evasion and Attack. You also gain new actions like an upgrade
of Blindside from using it enough.
---------
Spaceship
---------
For the first time in the Star Ocean series, you can finally use your space
ship to travel to numerous planets or areas throughout the universe!
Within your spaceship, named the "Calnus" (SO reference time!), you can do
numerous things. You can make roomates for you party to increase their
relationship with you or other characters, you can create items, listen to a
jukebox with various songs from the game (aka the soundtest), and engage in
Private Actions with your party.
----------
Collection
----------
Like Star Ocean 3, you have various things to get data on. From an
encyclopedia, to spaceship stuff, to monsters, all of this can be archived in
various books you'll have within the game.
First are Battle Trophies. That's right fans of the concept, they're back.
This time they apply to each character, so instead of being general ones,
there is one like "Do over 1000 points of damage" for Edge, and Reimi may get
"Do exactly 55 points of damage". Sometimes they're shared between characters
(like my two examples). There are 100 per character, making even more to
collect than Star Ocean 3.
Second is the Spaceship data. There is lots of data on various spaceships in
the game to collect. Through examining everything from books to computer
terminals, you can collect and archive this data.
Third is the Weapon Collection. Here you archive all the weapons you've gotten
throughout the game. As you get a weapon, it'll be added to your collection
and you'll get all the info on it archived. As anyone who's played tri-
Ace/Star Ocean games knows, there are absolutely tons of weapons to find in
chests, buy from stores, and make through item creation, so expect it to be a
while before you get 100% on this.
Last is the Monster Collection. By defeating a monster, it will be added your
monster collection. Using this, you can get various pieces of info on a
monster, even a little bit of history or other data. As you defeat more of
that monster, you'll increase the percentage analyzed, and as you increase
that percentage the amount of information given on the monster will increase
with it. Once you get it to 100%, you'll be able to make a "Monster Jewel",
cool little accessories that can add different attributes or stat boosts. You
can even use them in Item Creation.
------
Quests
------
Not much to explain here. They're little tasks you can take up from people.
They can range from finding something or someone, to killing a certain monster,
depends on the person. Of course you get rewards for doing them. The game also
logs your quests.
---------------------------------
Private Actions and Relationships
---------------------------------
Another SO staple is the Private Action. At various times that may pop up,
where there will be little sequences where you can engage in little scenes
with the party. Through these relationships between Edge and a party member or
between two other party members can be made stronger. Through making stronger
relationships, the ending of the game will change somewhat.
-------------
Item Creation
-------------
Item Creation, also known as IC by many Star Ocean or tri-Ace fans, is another
very significant series staple. Through IC you can make numerous items,
equipment, and other things. Some of the things you make can range from
downright game-breaking, to completely useless and a waste of space. Welch,
who first appeared in SO3, is back to help you through the process again, and
you do IC on your ship, the Calnus. There are no recruitment systems like SO3,
but there are some new things added, like recipes.
The first thing is the recipe system. Before you can make an item, you need to
have the correct recipe to make it first. This is where this part of IC comes
in. Using this, you can make several groups based on your party members, who,
as always, have their own share of proficiencies in certain skills like
cooking. There are four groups, with a maximum of three party members per
group. After you've made your group, you can start creating recipes, which
will consume you Party SP (it's separate from each character's individual SP,
so don't worry too much) as you do it.
After you've made the recipe, which can be all kinds of stuff, both useful and
complete junk, you need to collect the materials through various methods
(fighting, treasure chests, etc.) so you can make the item, provided you have
the right recipe for it. You can't have one or the other of course.
There are several different types of IC skills: Smithery, Cooking, Alchemy,
Artistry, Engineering, Crafting, Compounding, and Sense. As I said, each
character is better in some of them than others, and each skill is used to
make certain items.

Just because it may be useful, I'll cover the playable characters of the game

[P01] Taking off into Space!
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Items in this section: None
New monsters in this section: None
Enjoy the little cutscenes, then do the Battle Simulator. You can choose to
skip it, but if you don't want to figure stuff out as you go along, do it now.
After that, you'll gain control. Press the RT to switch to running if you want
to run. A northern room on this floor has a save point and a bed to rest on,
so use them if you need to now, but otherwise there isn't much to do. Go down
one of the stairs near the exit of the Battle Simulation room.
The Eastern room is for Item Creation, but you can't use it yet. There's
another save point here, and some people to talk to if you feel like it. The
room near the save point is the Flight Deck. There are more people here, just
talk to Reimi to start launch when you want to.
View the fun little cutscenes, then you'll start off your space adventure to
your first destination: Aeos!
----------------------------
[P02] The first planet: Aeos
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Items in this section: Recipe Memo 5, Broken Metal Cutting Blade, Sniper's
Bangle, Blueberries x9, Blackberries x5, Iron x8, Insect Leg, Insect Egg x2,
Bigberries x2, Wind Gem x2, Warped Carapace x2, Fresh Sage x3, Natural Water
x2, Attack Seeds x1, Seaweed x2, Uncooked Pasta, Olive Oil, Skill Manual "Scan
Enemy", Lemon x3
New monsters in this section: Adephaga, Adephaga Drus, Killer Wasp, Giant Bat,
Gerel, Polyphaga, Killer Chelae, Armaros
After that little incident, you'll wind up stuck on planet Aeos. Speak to
Reimi to start another little cutscene. Then you'll wind up out of the ship.
Go into the ship and talk to Van, who is near the entrance to the IC room for
Recipe Memo 05. Talk to one of the men near the entrance of the ship (outside)
for a Sniper's Bangle. Go north a bit from where the ship entrance is and open
the box for a Broken Metal Cutting Blade right to your left. Go exactly
northeast from there for an egg with three Blueberries inside. Go northwest
and examine the egg there to get two Blackberries. Then go north and east into
a small space with another egg containing Iron. Go further north from that
area to get to another egg at the end of the cliffside with two Insect Eggs
inside.
Afterwards go back in the other direction from the entrance of the ship.
There's a place where you can harvest items, but you'll need Reimi in the
party first. Speak to her twice after you're done exploring to start a
cutscene, and your first real battle. You might be able to get a few Battle
Trophies here, so try it if you want.
After the fight, go back into the ship and go into the Flight Deck. After a
quick scene, you'll be asked to check out the Eremia, and Reimi will join your
party. You can leave the ship now.
After leaving, go east of the save point up the little hill. See that light
coming out of the ground? Use Reimi to harvest here. Now you can go through
the place where that ship debris was. At this three-split path, go west to
find an egg with Bigberries inside. Take the eastern path and look on the
right wall to find another egg with a Wind Gem inside under the web-looking
stuff. Go as far north as possible, going to that small path on the map. At
the end there's an egg with two Irons inside. Going back southeast a little,
in the middle of two hills is another egg with 103 Fol.
Go north from that point for another place where Reimi can harvest. Then go
into the eastern part. Check the egg near the north part of the entrance to
the cave (next to the big rock) for and Insect Leg and a Warped Carapace, and
then go into the cave.
--------------
Urd Falls Cave
--------------
Inside this cave, go south for two eggs with 203 Fol and two Irons,
respectively. You can examine the crater if you want, but continue north
through the long path. There's not much to do here, but there's an egg with
two Fresh Sages as you go up, and eventually there'll be a side path with an
area where Reimi can harvest. Check the wall on the other side for a Fresh
Sage, but don't do it again (I warned you...). Go back on the northern path
and examine the egg in the top-right corner for two Blackberries. Now just
follow the path out.
--------------
Northern Coast
--------------
Go straight ahead for an egg with two Natural Waters inside. Go up to the save
point and save if you choose to, then go west. At the split go south for an
egg at the cliff with Attack Seeds. Take the other nearby path north for a
spot where Reimi can harvest. Go to the far west part of the map (where the
exclamation point is) and in a corner below that marker is a spot where Reimi
can harvest a Pickled Plum and a Fresh Sage. In the southwest part of the map
is another place where Reimi can harvest. The southernmost part of this area
has an egg with a Wind Gem inside. After that, head north and use the point
there to heal.
Jump down the cliff ahead of you, and go west and in the bottom-right corner
there for Reimi to harvest. Go the very end of the coast and check the egg
there for a Seaweed and Warped Carapace. Follow the coast west and there's an
egg with three Irons in it near the water. Continue west and walk up to the
man lying on the ground. After a short scene, you'll encounter your first boss
fight.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Armaros
EXP: 40
Fol: 609
There's not much you can do here. Use whoever you wish to, shouldn't be much
of a problem either way. Might be better if Faize is using Earth Glaive, with
Reimi giving long range support and you just luring it around, getting hits in
when you can. Use Blindsides and Rush Mode when you can. Shouldn't be much
trouble, even if the fight is long.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
After the fight, you'll get a Meteor Fragment and Faize will join the party.
Just go west, making sure to open the egg along the way for a seaweed. Go into
the cave when you're ready. Walk through the little path, and open the egg on
the left side of the cliff for three Blueberries. Now make your way back to
find a base was put up where your ship was.

Go east, see that small space near the ship with a dark shadow? Check the
corner there for the Skill Manual "Scan Enemy". Go south, and northeast of
that man standing there is a chest with two Blueberries. South of the man is a
chest with 193 Fol. Go back to the first door visible when you first enter the
base, and get the two Blueberries from chest near the crates there. There are
various entrances, one with a shop.
Go into the southern room of the base for an Uncooked Pasta and Olive Oil in a
chest. Then check the chest next to the door for Blueberries and Blackberries.
Check the northern room and talk to the captain for a cutscene. After that,
you have some stuff to do. :)
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
QUEST 001: Leg Collector
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Your first quest! Speak to the woman in the southwestern room of the base to
start it after speaking to Grafton. Pretty simple, get ten Insect Legs and
bring them to her. Depending on how many times you fought before all this, you
might not even have to leave.
Reward: Blueberries x1
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
QUEST 002: Egg Collector
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
After doing the Leg Collector quest, speak to the woman again. This time
she'll ask you to get eight Insect Eggs for her. Like the first quest, no
effort may even be involved to finish this one.
Reward: Aquaberries x1, Recipe Memo 20
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
QUEST 003: The Missing Patient
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Go into the Sick Bay and talk to Airi. She'll ask you if you could find Rich,
who left. Go outside and near the stairs to the Calnus you'll find him staring
at the ocean. Tell him about Airi, then go talk to her to complete the quest.
Reward: A kiss?
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Speak to Gaghan, and give him the control unit for the Sol. Speak to Grafton
afterwards or when you're ready for a cutscene.

Congratulations Edge Maverick, you're now the captain of your own ship!
Huzzah! Some things you can do before leaving though if you want to. Go north
of the base and walk through this little area. To the west side of the
entrance (just moved along the wall of the map if you can find it, you'll see
it) is an egg with Bigberries inside. Before jumping down the cliff, go south
a bit and you should see some eggs with Protection Seeds inside. Afterwards,
head back to Urd Falls Cave.

PRIVATE ACTION 001: Beautiful Flowers
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
(FIRST NOTE HERE: I don't have the best idea of which does which, I'll suggest
what's probably the best choice, but until more data is out, nothing is final)
Location: Urd Falls Cave
With: Reimi and Edge
This is easier to get to if you just run through the way where you have to
jump down the cliff. There's a group of flowers at the bottom of the cliff
where you can have a Private Action. Just pick the response depending on what
kind of relationship you want with Reimi. Calling her pretty might be the
"good" choice.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
After that, leave.
---------

---------
Make your way back to the Base.
----------------
Exploration Base
----------------
Get into your ship.
------
Calnus
------
Go into the Flight Deck and try to start to ship. While it's searching, talk
to Faize for a Monster Jewel and an explanation of the Monster Jewel system.
Try to start the ship again, and a cutscene will start when you do. After that,
the ship goes into Warp. During this, you can do stuff, like Private Actions.
Something to keep in mind is that Private Action increase the percentage of
the warp, so you can't do all of them at once. Chances are I'll miss some, but
I'll try to get through as many as possible.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
PRIVATE ACTION 003: Faize meets Welch
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Location: Calnus
With: Faize, Edge, and Welch
Faize meets Welch for the first time!
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
PRIVATE ACTION 003: Crowe
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Location: Calnus
With: Faize, Reimi and Edge
The group talks about Crowe.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
PRIVATE ACTION 004: Responsibility
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Location: Calnus
With: Edge and Reimi
They talk about their mission and such. You get a better relationship with her
from this.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
PRIVATE ACTION 005: Contact
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Location: Calnus
With: Faize, Reimi and Edge
The group talks about contact between Earth and Eldar. You can apologize or
make another comment, depends on what relationship you want.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
PRIVATE ACTION 006: Swords
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Location: Calnus
With: Faize, Reimi and Edge
The group talks about swords, particularly in regards to Edge and Faize. You
can tell him Edge's story, or choose not to. It might help the relationship if
you tell it though.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
After all that, you'll land on planet Lemuris.
-------------
Thalia Plains
-------------
Not much to do here. Run through, fight monsters to add to your monster
collection, and go east to the nearby town. There's a chest in the northern
part of this area with three Aquaberries On the right side of the entrance is
a chest with an Aquaberry and two Blackberries.

You'll meet some people who praise you as gods! Not too bad a day for Edge
huh? Captain and a God. Anyway, after all that, Lymle will join your party!
You now have a full four-member party, yay.
Anyway, buy your equipment and all that, get whatever you need. Check near the
equipment shop for a chest with two Blueberries. Go back into the Ghimdo's
house for a chest with a Demon Amulet inside. After that you can leave through
either of the northern exits.
-------------
Thalia Plains
-------------
In the eastern part, near the broken bridge is a rock with a chest containing
255 Fol at the southeast part of the rock. There's a harvest point in the
trees not too far from there, and a little bit south of that point is a chest
containing a Darkness Gem. Now go back to the northern part and cross the
unbroken bridge. Going east after you cross there's a chest with two
Blueberries.
Going west and on top of that hill, there's a chest with two Vile Goops at the
southwestern part of the rock there. I know this place is gigantic, but just
go north to the huge building there. You'll know where you're going if you
look for the save/entrance point in the snowy area. When you try to open the
door, Edge will learn the symbol Healing! Now if Lymle has it as well, you
have some healing support besides items. Anyway, you'll go into the Citadel.
-------------------
Alanaire Citadel 1F
-------------------
Go northwest up to the pillar there for a chest with an Anti-Poison Amulet
inside. The northern pillar in this are also has a chest with a Shining Stone
inside. These are crucial to this dungeon, so collect them when I tell you to
unless you want to backtrack for treasure. Now your job is to examine all the
monuments so that they float up to the above areas. There are two in this
circular area, then go up the stairs west of the entrance for another one,
which also clears the way for you to progress. Continue, and go through the
western path here with four rooms. The northeast room has a chest with a Skill
Manual "Treasure Sense" inside (VERY useful, give this to Lymle immediately).
The northwestern room has a sealed chest, and the southeastern room has a
chest with a Shining Stone inside.
Go back to the normal path, and examine that monument to lift it and open your
way.
-------------------------
Alanaire Citadel Ramparts
-------------------------
Just go up the stairs here.
-------------------
Alanaire Citadel 2F
-------------------
Going into the room on your right, you'll find a Guardian's Rapier. Go east,
and if you did what I said and lifted up the monuments on the first floor,
you'll be able to walk through here, allowing you to get to a chest with a
Shining Stone. Go north up to a chest with a Skill Manual "Focus" inside.
After getting that stuff, leave through the south exit on the map.
-------------------------
Alanaire Citadel Ramparts
-------------------------
Go up the stairs and check the chest for a Shining Stone. Then go back
-------------------
Alanaire Citadel 2F
-------------------
Go through the north exit now.
-------------------------
Alanaire Citadel Ramparts
-------------------------
Go to the first floor.
-------------------
Alanaire Citadel 1F
-------------------
With your newfound shiny stones, go to the monuments on the circular area that
didn't do anything before, and now you can life them up. Go to the stairs on
the eastern side of the entrance this time, and do the same with monument here,
which will also clear a new path for you. Going through here and taking the
side path, the northeastern room has a Guardian Armor in the chest. Now
continue through, lifting up the monument here to get through.
-------------------------
Alanaire Citadel Ramparts
-------------------------
You know the deal for this area, go up the stairs.
-------------------
Alanaire Citadel 2F
-------------------
The side path near where you came in has a recovery point, with the other room
having a sealed chest. Don't bother with the other exit in this hallway, it
goes nowhere. Again, if you lifted all the monuments, you should be able to
walk through here freely. The chest here has another Shining Stone. After
getting it, go to the southern exit. If you collected all the Shining Stones,
you should be able to lift all the monuments here and continue. Use the save
point, then get ready for a boss fight after going through the door.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Dragon Newt
EXP: 40
Fol: 609
He's not too bad depending on your level. He's a pain to get to stagger, but
he's not tough to dodge really. His most annoying attack is that energy dash,
the rest are pretty manageable. Have Lym and Faize are best here with spells
as they can stay away from it, as are Reimi's attacks. Edge can take a few
blows by him with no problem. Use Blindsides (hopefully your have the Double
Blindside skill in case it tries to counter), and attack when you have an
opening.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
After all that, instead of leaving the normal way, go north. The chest on the
left is sealed unfortunately, but you can examine the area over there to get
down and leave.

Talk to the woman near the entrance for a Hot Chocolate. A chest in the south
west corner of the village has a Curing Sheet. Another chest in the northern
part of the village has two Blackberries. The equipment shop has a chest with
an Anti-Stun Amulet inside. The Inn has a chest with two Fresh Sages in one of
the rooms.
Go into the northwestern house after you're done. Go into the room and talk to
Lutie. You'll need to discover the Bacculus' source and you'll get a Symbol
Stone, but we can do that later, time for other stuff.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
QUEST 004: The Little Lost Girl
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Go into the item shop and talk to the owner. She'll say she lost her little
girl, and it's up to you to find her. You'll find her at the western entrance
to the village crying. Talk to her, then go back.
Reward: 50 EXP, 8 SP
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
QUEST 005: The Curious Kitty
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
After clearing the above quest, talk to the foolhardy girl in the item shop.
Accept her request to find the cat, and set out. Just keep following the map
south, the cat will be marked with an NPC marker on your map.
Reward: 50 EXP, 32 SP
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
After you're done doing what you need to do, leave the village.
---------------
Van Elmn Region
---------------
East of Woodley is a chest with a Bigberries and two Blueberries. Head south
from there for a harvest point. Go to the chest east of there for two Vile
Goops. Go southeast to that harvest point, then go south to the chest next to
the tree for three Aquaberries. Go southeast from there for a chest with 51
Fol, then go south and examine the thing next to the lake to get a Faerie
Orchid.
Go back north a little and take the eastern path there. Check the harvest
point on the left side of the big hill, go south to a chest with Health Seeds,
go northeast to another harvest point, and go south to yet another harvest
point. After you're done, go east to leave this area.
-------------
Thalia Plains
-------------
Go back to Triom.
-----
Triom
-----
Talk to Ghimdo, and he'll tell you of another "celestial ship" like yours. Of
course you're going to check it out, but not before he gives you a Fire Ring.
Talk to the woman in the middle of town (east side of the hill), and she'll
recharge your ring. Now you get rid of obstacles and such in your way, and
open frozen chests. You can try it out right now, actually. The southeastern
part of the village has a frozen chest with Recipe Memo 02 inside. Use the
ring and you can open it. Get whatever you need, then leave through one of the
northern exits.
-------------
Thalia Plains
-------------
Let's go north to the snowy area again to do some stuff and get things you may
have missed. The west part of the snowy area has a chest with two blackberries
inside. Go northwest from there for a chest with 401 Fol inside. Going
northeast from here up to the Citadel, going along the wall east will get you
to a chest with Skill Manual "Hide" inside. Go southeast from here to a chest
with Accuracy Seeds inside.
Go east across the ice (remember dashing on the ice only makes you run in
place, so don't use it unless you want to dance or something...) and go north
into that little space for a chest with a Monster Jewel. Go further east and
on the north side of that rock near the exit is a chest with a Bizarre Fruit.
Before going through that exit, go south into that small area to find a
harvest point. Now go through the eastern exit there.
-------------------
Wind Swallow Valley
-------------------
Melt the ice in front of you (no reason to melt the third one now unless you
want to, you can't mine yet), and continue. Save your progress, and then make
your way around the exterior of this ship. Make sure you open the chest along
the way for two Blackberries. Go into the ship when you're ready.
-----------------------
Celestial Ship 1F South
-----------------------
NOTE: After you complete this dungeon and go back to Triom, you won't be able
to do things there. So do them now!
The mechanical stuff in front of you has something sparkling on it. Examine it
to get a Plastic Explosive. The lower left one in this room has another one
you can find by examining the sparkle.
You can't run up the ice there, and don't blow up that door. Instead go
through that hall, and don't touch the sparks there unless you want to get
hurt. Now go into the room that was blocked by the door on the other side. The
northwestern machine stuff has another Plastic Explosive to get. Go right
across the hall from that room into the next for a chest with four Blueberries
and a Bigberries.
Go north and use a plastic explosive to blow open the door, in other cases
you'll have to use the Fire Ring to detonate it, but not for this one.
Remember to walk away from the door while the explosive is on it though. You
can blow open the western door in this room if you want, but there's nothing
of note in here besides another Plastic Explosive (kinda redundant unless you
want the EXP/SP, and you'll use one of your Fire Ring charges if you do).
Don't blow open the east door, instead go north and in the third room to the
left is a frozen chest with Skill Manual "HP Boost".
Now go through the door to the north (you don't need an explosive), and use an
explosive on the right door. In here is a chest with a Fainting Potion. The
eastern wall here has another sparkle that'll give you two Plastic Explosives.
Now go back and go through that exit on the northern part of that room earlier.
-----------------------
Celestial Ship 1F North
-----------------------
Go through the hallway, and go right, down those stairs, and blow up the door.
One chest has a Cardianon Sword, and the other is sealed unfortunately, but
very close to it is a sparkle with a Plastic Explosive. Remember not to waste
one on the other door, just use the entrance you already blew open. Go further
north into the other room.
Before examining the monitor, get some stuff first. Blow open the northern
door to a room that has a chest with Skill Manual "Critical Hit". Go through
the eastern hall for another Plastic Explosive and two Bigberries inside the
chest. Now go examine the monitor and watch the cutscene, and you'll get a
Cardianon Data Disc. Save, then use the passcode to open the southern door.
When you go through, you'll get ambushed and have to go through three battles
in a row. It's not that tough though. The western room only has a sealed chest,
but the eastern room has a recovery point and a chest with four Blackberries
inside. After all that go and use the elevator to go down.
-----------------
Celestial Ship 2F
-----------------
The chest to the west has two Fresh Sages, and the frozen chest to the
southeast has a Power Bracelet. Save, and then go through the door ahead of
you, examining the crystal in front of you for another cutscene,w ith a boss
fight afterwards.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Hopefully you gave whoever you're controlling the Chain Combos skill, as
that'll speed things up. Try to use Rush Mode and Blindsides, and have your
party give you support. Heal when needed, and don't forget you have healing
symbols now too.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
After that, head all the way back to Triom.

[BET] BEAT
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
As I've mentioned, BEATs are things you can set up to increase your
character's stats and abilities. As you increase the rank, you get better stat
boosts and abilities. The stat boosts don't stack, so for BEAT S, when you go
from Rank 1 to Rank 2, it's not +15 to your attack, but +10 instead of +5.
Keep in mind that BEAT N is the stat boosts of both BEATs with none of the

[BTS] Battle Trophies
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Returning from SO3 (and sorta from SO2, in concept), are Battle Trophies! Yay.
Unlike SO3 though, there are 100 per character, which makes for even more than
SO3 overall. Though there are some ways to make it easier. Second, some of
these are easier with some characters than with others, so use it to your
advantage to get as many as possible.
As for what it unlocks, in this order:
-additional voice stuff for that character
-removes the level cap for that character
-More voice stuff.
-CP bonus
No I'm not listing strategies or anything for each and every one, there will
be or are other guides that will help with that I'm sure.
