Create sims/pets

Is there any way your sim can die but have the pets continue to live? ^.^ My sim died and my pets just =POOF= and I was taken back to home screen >.<

As far as we know the only way that the pets survive a Sim death in that situation is if they are members of a household with additional adult sims in it.
