How do I customize furniture in build and buy?

I have looked at videos about this and most of them have no subtitles or audio so you can't even follow them. Also the videos that do have audio are either in a different language then English or there really fast paced so again you can't follow them!

Buy the item you want to customise, then hit the 'Y' button and create a style. Note that you cannot have the catalog open when you do the customising options.
