How do you defeat Venom the first time you have to fight him? I know you have to hit the pipe things to stun him, but he's super strong. Plus, when he manages to attack me and get me onto the ground, he webs me and slams me into the ground again before I can even get up. So basically, I don't have a chance because he cheap shots me before I even get back onto my feet. Is there an easier way to defeat him?

Just keep on hitting the pipes then attacking vemon and eventually theres a cutscene and you play as New Goblin and fight Sandman.
The best thing to do is to get away from him as quickly as possible. Once you hit the pipes, find him and start hitting him using the super attacks (Y). You can hit him about 4 times, so hold Y for the last hit to charge it up. Once you hit him, use your spider-reflexes to run away and jump to a different level of the building. If he webs you when you're using the spider-reflexes, it won't automatically hurt you; it will tell you to repeatedly press A to get away. Repeat until the cutscene.
Stay on the second floor, destroy one set of poles, attack with about 5 hits, then do the other pole. The other should respawn after that.
I just keep jumping round because then he can't get me and when I'm up in the air I just swing to him and do a combo but it just fails some times but I did it on psp
