How do I use the elk call correctely so I am not spending 45 minutes trying to get the stupid thing to call ?

I had the same problem for a LONG time. I didn't know this until now, but you can have the instructions out at the same time as the call. It comes in handy because a box will blink telling you when to perform the action and make the call. You must swing the joystick clockwise, but you need to do it several times. So pull RT and starting swinging until it makes that sweet elk sound.
