Character Customization Guide

Latest update by Glaceon on Dec 12th 2012
Character customization is a bit easier to understand than Ship Customization, so I'll explain the basics of each slot.

PSG, or Personal Shield Grid, is a new Star Trek item, where the individual actually has a shield. Unlike the series where a phaser stun could knock you out in one shot, the PSG allows you to take multiple shots. There are a few special PSGs similar in style to the regular PSG which can be received during missions. Make sure to ALWAYS equip one because if you don't, you'll die really quickly in a firefight. You'll start out with a standard issue one.

Armour is also a new Star Trek item. Armour helps reduce damage much like a shield, but affects both shield performance and health. Compared to PSGs, there are many different types of armour. An example... Polly-alloy Weave armour is the strongest melee armour, which gives the best protection against melee attacks. Physical Augmentation armour boosts melee damage. Energy Dampening armour reduces energy damage taken by weapons, where Energy Harness boost your energy damage. There's many other types of armour. You can also choose to hide the armour's visuals. There will be a 'eye' icon by the armour. Click to toggle armour appearance.

Weapons are the most important aspect...you need them to fight. Without a weapon, you can still use basic martial arts fighting, but it won't get you very far. You'll start out with a Phaser stun piston - standard issue. As you progress through the tutorial, you'll get a Phaser Sniper rifle Mk. I, which will help greatly through the first few levels. Your captain can hold two weapons, and can be toggled by Z. Bridge officers can only hold one weapon

Kits are also extremely important as they hold your captain's abilities. They also vary based on your career. You'll start out with Photon Grenade for Tactical, Medical Tricorder for Science, and Chroniton Mine for Engineering. As you level up, Kits will grant more than one ability, up to four. There are different kits that can be used for different situations, so collect the kits you like for each situation. Kits can also be shows or hidden by clicking the 'eye' icon. Bridge officers can't carry kits, but they have their own buffs.

Finally there are Device slots. Device slots are used for a handful of devices. Tribbles, for one, have hundreds of different types to use. Power Cells, like ship batteries, can be used to buff your PSG, Weapon, or Hyposprays which will restore your health. You'll start out with a few small hyposprays. Your bridge officers will also use most devices. Just equip it into their slots.
