With Options, you have display settings (toggle blood and the melee guide on and off), sound settings, controller settings (change sensitivity), system settings (choose difficulty and toggle auto-save and tutorials on and off), and bonus (gallery, music library, sound library, and memories). Gallery is a collection of concept art, unlocked by beating 10 Assignment missions (63). Music Library and Sound Library are collections of the music and sounds in the game, unlocked by beating 20 Assingment missions (25 and 297 respectively). Memories are a collection of cutscenes and other movie files (45). Sometimes, during the story mode, a slain enemy will drop a thin scroll or cd (gather these to get more sketches, music, and sounds). Story represents story mode, where you will play through 10 Missions. Assignments are a collection of short missions. There are a total of 50 assignments. Unlock assignments by beating missions (the higher your rank, the more you unlock). During the game, the lower left-hand corner of the screen will contain: Compass : Points the way to the next area or target. Yellow Moon : Normal status but you are not hidden. Black Moon : You are hidden. Purple Moon : Enemies are aware and searching for you. Red Moon : You have been discovered. Stars : The size and location of stars indicate enemy position. Flashing Moon: Indicates that you are very close to an enemy. Red Waves : Indicates that you have made a loud noise. [T1A] Basic Moves ******************************************************************************* The basic moves of a ninja. Master these to become a true Grandmaster. Move: Control Stick on nunchuk. Jump: C button. Run using the B button to jump farther. Mind's Eye: Z button. Turn Around: Shake the nunchuk. Select Item: Left or Right on the control pad. Ready the Item: Down on the control pad. Drop/Exchange Item: Up on the control pad. Action: A button. Run: Hold B button when moving forward. Strafe: Hold B button when moving to the sides. Cancel: Press B button in menus or when your item is readied. Hayate: Flick wii-mote up and down to quickly dash. If a shadow or hiding place is near, you will dash there. Motion Kill: Swing wii-mote or nunchuk to perform different hissatsus. Swing Sword: Flick wii-mote up and down when the ninjato sword is equipped. Swing the wii-mote in a given direction during a swordfight. Block Sword: Angle the wii-mote to block the enemies sword strike duringa swordfight. Hide: Approach smoky, shadowy areas to hide. If you turn black, you are hidden. Mind's Eye: Highlights enemies and objects that you can interact with. Intensifies the look of shadows to show where you can hide, where the enemies are looking, and shows footsteps of where you can go (sometimes). Extinguish Flames: Put out candles by pressing A when you are next to them. For more intense flames, use a Bamboo Tube. Wall Hug: Press your body against a wall and move stealthily. Corner Look: While pressed against a wall, move toward a corner to peak out. Wall Push: When wall-hug corner-looking, press A to jump out. Corner Climb: At certain corners, when prompted, you can climb the corner and wait for your unsuspecting foes. Hissatsu: Instant Kills. Enemies aware of your presence are not susceptible to hissatsu. The screen will flash blue to indicate you can hissatsu an enemy. Multiple Hissatsu: If you approach multiple enemies without being noticed, you can take all of them out by following the on-screen prompts. The screen will flash yellow to indicate you can hissatsu two enemies; the screen will flash red to indicate you can hissatsu three enemies. Ancient Hissatsu: After you have completed 30 assignments, you can perform an ancient hissatsu. While you are behind an enemy, initiate a hissatsu and waggle your wii-mote up and down to perform the extra hissatsu. Move Object: Press A on top of an object to pick it up, B to drop it, or swing the wii-mote to throw it (boxes only). Hayate: Move quickly and silently. If a shadow or hiding place is near, you will dash to cover. Oni Hayate: If you hayate between multiple bushes/shadows in a row, you may get the chance to hissatsu a nearby enemy who is normally too far away to reach. Ledge Hang: Hang on ledges of walls or roofs by pressing A when prompted. Move Boxes: Push around large boxes by pressing the control stick against the object. Rikimaru can move large boxes holding wooden sticks, Ayame cannot. Utsusemi/Cicada Technique: If you are discovered and do not have a sword, you will perform this technique and begin again at the beginning of the section. If you are defeated in a sword fight, you will also use this technique. [T1B] Items ******************************************************************************* These are the tools of the trade. Shuriken: A throwing weapon which can be hurled at enemies to wound them. Though severely lacking in power, a well-placed shuriken can cause a target to lose his footing and - should he be standing by a cliff, well, lake, or fire - fall to his demise. Shuriken can also be used to snuff out candles, and their versatility makes them the weapon of choice for many a ninja. Ninjato Sword: A close-quarters weapon used to defend oneself in the event of discovery. Ninja less confident in their ability to stay hidden would do well to take a sword along. Blocking enemy attacks at right angles reduces nicks to the blade. A ninjato can be thrust into softer walls and used as a step, or used to break the locks off doors. Ninjato are more portable than other Japanese swords, and when weilded properly, they make less noise. Because the use of unfamiliar weapons invites failure, ninja of the Azuma-Shinobi-ryu will not carry anything but ninjato, even if they manage to steal an enemies blade. Rock: A commonplace rock with a good heft to it. As any would-be ninja knows, a rock can serve as well as a shuriken in covert situations like these, which require weapons to be procured on site. Kunai: A throwing knife that resembles a small trowel. While shuriken serve much the same purpose, Ayame prefers these. Bamboo Tube: A container that can be used to scoop water and then put out torches and other larger flames. While performing the art of suiton (water concealment), the tube serves as a breathing apparatus. Kasugai: Tools of stealth that, when attached to both hands and driven into a soft well, allow the wielder to climb over. Using them requires a great deal of muscle. Kasugai can also be used to strip away old tatami mats and hide underneath. Smoke Bomb: A throwing item that contains chemicals which mix upon impact, causing the bomb to release a smokescreen. Everything in a ten-foot radius is engulfed in shadow. This powerful tool not only robs enemies of their eyesight, but also their mobility if they are unfortunate enough to inhale the smoke. One of these can quickly extricate a ninja from the most dangerous predicament, making them a signature trick of the trade. Ghostmaker: A small bomb with the powder packed in a special manner. It can be lobbed or planted...and pity anyone in range when it goes off. Because it can harm friend as easily as foe, the ghostmaker requires careful handling. Also, as useful as it may prove, it is guaranteed to alert nearby enemies to one's presence: consider it a last resort. Ghostmakers also blow apart cracked walls. Fishing Rod: A remarkably portable fishing rod. It may be used to snag fallen items and haul them in, or to yank enemies off balance. Both the rod and line are made to be light yet resilient, and thus are adaptable to whatever the situation requires. Poison: The intellectual's preferred tool of assassination: six deadly poisons extracted from fish and shellfish, mixed together into liquid death. Pour it into a jugful of liquor, or drop it into a server or drinker's vessel from above for more selective targeting. More impulsive ninja may opt to apply the poison directly, to dissolve locks...or people. Shinobi Cat: The widespread use of ninken, or ninja dogs, has unfortunately made the world more wary of man's best friend. The result: this shinobi cat. it has been thoroughly trained in the art of reconnaissance, and will scout ahead at it's masters bidding. Revolutionary, yes...but it's still a cat. If it sees something that rubs it the wrong way, it will not hesitate to pussyfoot it out of there. Ninja Veil: A cloth woven with special materials and dyes that blend right into the darkness. One need only don this veil to vanish from enemy sight. The downside: to keep it portable, there is only enough cloth to cover one's front. Then again, any ninja who turns his back on the enemy in the first place is a dead ninja. Onibi: A pair of grotesquely-shaped swords whose blades have been imbued with a deep-seeded grudge. The blades will not break: nick them, and a moment later the damage is mysteriously undone. More disturbingly, the swords cause their victims to erupt in fire and die a horrible death. Using this disqualifies you from earning a high ninja rating. Izayoi: A renowned sword weilded by generations of the Azuma Ninja. The secret arts used to temper it have rendered it unbreakable, and its deadly sharpness is augmented by the uncanny and terrifying ability to ignite anyone unlucky enough to be caught in its swath. Using this disqualifies you from earning a high ninja rating. Burning Shuriken: Shuriken whose insides have been hallowed out and packed with a volatile oil. The centrifugal force when thrown and the force of impact cause the oil to diffuse and ignite, turning the target into a walking pillar of fire...and then a not-walking pillar of fire. The shuriken are still in trial and should be handled with caution. Ninja Tabi '08: Special tabi (Japanese socks, if you will) designed specifically for running. They have a built-in cushion of air for maximum shock absorption, and also boast tremendous stability when dashing ahead at maximum speed. This year's line is the best yet, but unfortunately they are sold out everywhere: now ninja across the land have taken to stealing each others' tabi in a bizarre social phenomenon that has come to be known as the 'Hoisery War'. Using this disqualifies you from earning a high ninja rating. Hayate Pill: A forbidden Azuma medicine that elevates the mental state of anyone who takes it. It works as a sort of stimulant, prompting the user to attempt (and surprisingly, succeed at!) impossibly ridiculous things they would never try while in their right mind. The effects wear off it if you leave the area, but remember: Once you pop, it's hard to stop. Using this disqualifies you from gaining a high ninja ranking. Devil's Mask: A stone mask modeled after a devil's visage. Wear it at your peril: they say the devil within will possess the soul of the wearer...Using this disqualifies you from earning a high ninja rating. Colored Rice: Grains of rice dyed red, blue, yellow, purple and black. When placed in certain patterns or amounts, they serve as a sort of ninja code. On missions, they allow a ninja to instantly parse information already collected by their brethren -- a skill every bit as useful as the Azuma ninja's "Mind's Eye." Special dyes are used instead of naturally colored rice, to insure the message is not gobbled up by passing wildlife. Using this disqualifies you from earning a high ninja ranking. Real Ultimate Power: The alpha and omega of ninja. It contains an infinite supply of every item. This beastly power was supposed to have been sealed. Who the hell let it loose?...Well, no matter. Using this disqualifies you from earning a high ninja ranking. To obtain certain items: Ninja Tabi '08 - Beat the game once. Izayoi - Find all 12 of Rikimaru's map pieces in normal mode. Onibi - Find all 8 of Ayame's map pieces in normal mode. Burning Shuriken - Found only in shadow mode. Hayate Pill - Found only in shadow mode. Devil's Mask - Get all Mask Pieces in shadow mode. Colored Rice - Beat all 50 assignments. Real Ultimate Power - Unsure. Beat Normal Mode, Shadow Mode, and all 50 Assignments?? (I received this at the same time I earned the Colored Rice - I had S ranks on all missions but not an S rank on level 50). [T1C] Modes ******************************************************************************* There are two modes: normal mode and shadow mode. At the level select scene, flick your wii-mote up and down to change to shadow mode. You can only play a level in shadow mode if you have beaten that level in normal mode. Shadow mode has more enemies, more difficult enemies, and a different layout than normal mode. Also, in shadow mode, if you do not have a ninjato sword or smoke bombs, you will only perform Utsusemi once. The second time you are spotted you die. [T1D] Difficulty Levels ******************************************************************************* You can change difficulty levels in the options menu. Difficulty does not change the layout, the number or the difficulty of enemies. It only changes the difficulty of the swordfights. It is therefore no shame to start on a lower difficulty as there are several sword fights throughout the game and many find them one of the weakest aspects of the game (as well as tough to pull off). [T1E] Ninja Ranking ******************************************************************************* You are ranked on three aspects of the game: time, sneaking, and killing. Time: How long you take to finish the level. The quicker you finish, the higher your rank. Sneaking: How many times you were discovered. The less you are discovered, the higher your rank. Killing: How many enemies you killed. The more you kill, the better your rank; however, you can also get a high rank for not killing anyone (mostly for a few assingments). There are 6 ranks: S, A, B, C, D, and E with S-Rank being the best. S: Grandmaster A: Master B: Expert Ninja C: Ninja D: ?? (Novice??) E: ?? (Thug??) In order to S-Rank the overall Mission, you must get at least 2 S ranks in time, sneaking, or killing and at worst an A rank in the 3rd category. The difficulty in S-Ranking Missions will generally be time. If you are ever discovered, it is advisable to Restart Section (this will not restart the time so you can only do it so many times before your time balloons). The reason to do this is because one discovery will automatically knock you down to an A rank in sneaking. You can miss 2-3 enemies and still get an S-rank in killing. You generally have 2-3 minutes past the S-rank time for the A-rank time. [T1F] Sword Fighting ******************************************************************************* There are three phases of sword fighting: 1. Initial Phase: At the very start you will be given a prompt to swing your wii-mote. If you do it correctly, you will initiate the Attack Phase. If you do it incorrectly, you will initiate the Defense Phase. There is no initial phase for boss fights. 2. Defense Phase: Hold your wii-mote vertically. You defend the enemy sword strike by matching the position of your wii-mote with the one on the screen. There are 4 positions: Vertical, Diagonal-Right, Diagonal-Left, and Horizontal. When the enemy strikes, you will receive a blue flash if you have blocked it correctly, a yellow flash if you were slightly off, and a red flash if you were far off. After correctly blocking a number of strikes, you will go into the Attack Phase. Also, if you hit A when the enemy strikes, you will have a chance to counter-attack with a shortened Attack Phase. 3. Attack Phase: Swing your wii-mote to attack the enemy. Follow the prompts, the blue arrows, and build a combo to dispatch the enemy faster. When the enemy is low on health, you will be prompted at the bottom of the screen to press A to initiate an hissatsu. You can peform a hissatsu in boss fights but it is rare (I have only seen the prompt for Sekiya and Onikage but have not initiated it because my next strike killed them). [T2] Walkthrough (Normal Mode) ******************************************************************************* At the level select screen, you can bring in items to start the level. In the beginning, you do not have any items to bring in, but it is necessary to bring in items in order to explore some different paths. You gain items in your inventory by having them at the end of the level. There are multiple ways to traverse a level as well as multiple ways to dispatch an enemy so I will generally just be covering one of those ways. The walkthrough will assume you do not bring in any items into the level, but it will point out the items you need to bring in to explore the other paths. There are several types of enemy: Bandits, swordsmen, Shida ninja, and armored samurai. Bandits may drop rocks. Swordsmen may drop ninjato swords. Shida ninja may drop kunai, shurikens, and smoke bombs. Armored samurai may drop smoke bombs (for normal mode). Enemies may stand still, stand still and turn in place, or walk around. The only other enemies are presented in several mandatory sword fights. If you are on the edge of a shadow, swordsmen and ninja may spot you but you will have a split-second to kill them firts. If you are just in a shadow, samurai will be able to spot you but you have a split- second to kill them first. In these instances, just keep pressing A when they are near. This also applies to when you are dropping down on an enemy. It is best to just tap A. Armored samurai have a weakness when they are turning (a time when they cannot spot you). There are also riflemen. There is one type of innocent: Servant women. They do not count towards the enemies you need to kill; however, they also do not count against you. I am a ninja who has lost his way - I will instruct you to dispatch them with extreme prejudice. If you do not like the sword fights, do not pick up the ninjato sword (unless you know you will use it to break a lock). Even if you do not have a ninjato sword, you will be given a sword for the boss fights. The exit to each section has two blue flames beside them. There is a wii-mote motion kill that involves thrusting your wii-mote forward like a stab. Many have found it reliable to just flick your wii-mote down. Red Pinwheels indicate walls where ninjato swords can be thrust into to be used as a step. I have never found it useful so I will not mention them in the walkthrough (if you find them useful, please contact me as to the mission and section and how you used it). For regular guards, when they are alerted and searching for you and you are in the bushes: If they stab at you with their sword, press A and B to dispatch them. When enemies are alerted, you cannot hissatsu them. However, you can still kill them with a ninjato sword, but you must be out of their sight and you have to use the sword (for armored samurai, it is best to go up to them when they are ducking down). [T2A] Level 01: Kill the Evil Merchant ******************************************************************************* Use the first sections to familiarize yourself with the game. Walk in the shadows, hayate from bush to bush, blow out candles, etc. There is a second path you can take if you bring Kasugai. Other items that you can bring in are the ninjato sword or poison. Walk up behind him and perform a hissatsu. If this is not your first time playing, you can climb the wall ahead if you bring Kasugai [Path 1-2]. Turn right and go through the door. There is a stading guard ahead of you with his back turned. You can just walk behind him to dispatch him [Side Note]. Move forward to the wall so that you are in the shadows and walk along the shadows until you are prompted to perform a hissatsu on the standing guard. Exit through the gates. There is a <box> here that you can pick up and put near the left side of the wall adjoining the exit to get on top of it, but it serves no practical use other than training (you can automatically climb on the small box just by walking on to it or you can jump on it; while on the box near the wall, you will be prompted to press A to hang on the ledge of the wall. Press up on your control stick to climb on top). Side Note: If this is not your first time, you can bring a ninjato sword or poison, you can break the lock on the door of the building to your right. Walk in the shadows on your right and climb into the rafters to perform a hanging hissatsu on the patrolling guard. Pick up a <silver key> to unlock the door and come out behind the standing guard with his back turned. Kill him and exit through the doors. [S-Rank Tip] Immediately run to dispatch the 1st and 2nd guard. Then run to the wall and along it until the 3rd guard starts to notice you; let B go and continue walking to dispatch him and run to the exit. Section 2 --------- Walk forward to your left and conceal yourself in the bush. Blow out the candle-post to create shadows on the wall to your left. Use those shadows to walk along the wall to the next set of bushes. Pick up one of the <boxes> and move it to the wall adjoining the gate [Note: you can either walk it over and drop it or throw it. If you throw it, make sure to throw it away from the guards]. Walk on top of the <box> and climb on top of the wall. Drop down on the other side and walk in the shadows on the right side [Note: There is a cat here who will make noise and alert the guards if you bug it]. Walk through the open gate to perform a double-hissatsu on the two standing guards with their backs turned [Note: perform a multiple-hissatsu by going in-between the guards and make sure the screen flashes yellow]. Go back through the gate and pick up the <bamboo tube> to your right. You can fill it up by turning to the <water jug> beside it and press A when prompted. Use the <bamboo tube> to douse the <flaming torch>. Walk along the shadows and through the bushes until prompted to perform a hissatsu on the standing guard. Go through the open door on your left and jump on top of the shelves. Climb onto the rafters (you may have to move a little until prompted). Walk along the rafters or rafter-jump (position yourself to face a non-parallel rafter and flick your wii-mote to leap from one rafter to another) until you are above the standing guard. When prompted, perform a hanging hissatsu, drop down from the rafters and exit through the door. [S-Rank Tip] Once you are over the wall, start running to the gate to double- hissatsu the two guards. After you extinguish the flaming torch, run along the wall until the guard starts to notice you; let B go and continue walking along the wall and bushes to dispatch him. Climb onto the rafters and rafter jump (much faster than walking along the rafters) until you can hanging hissatsu the last guard. Drop down and exit. Section 3 --------- Walk to the 2nd bush ahead of you and turn right towards the standing guard with back turned between you and the next bush. You can walk behind him to hissatsu him or you can perform a hayate to the next bush which will also kill him. Move to the next bush and enter the water beside the candle-post. When you have a <bamboo tube> you will be silent in the water and remain unseen. Without it, guards will be alerted to the noise and can see you. Turn right and swim along the water's edge until prompted to perform an underwater hissatsu on the standing guard by the bridge. Turn left and swim to the opposite edge to underwater hissatsu the other standing guard. Move forward onto the stone ledge to exit the water. Turn right and walk behind the standing guard on the bridge to dispatch him. Turn around and walk along the path to the left of the exit to come up from behind the last standing guard. You can pick up <rock(2)>. Kill the guard and exit the section. [S-Rank Tip] Run to dispatch the guard and into the water. Underwater hissatsu the guard to your right and across the pond. Then run to dispatch the one on the bridge and back along the path. Run to the exit. Section 4 --------- Walk forward and pick up <shuriken(5)>. Use the shurikens or rocks to perform a shooting hissatsu on the standing guard by the well [Note: when you can perform a shooting hissatsu, the screen will flash blue]. Go forward and exchange your rocks for a <ninjato sword>. Turn left and use the ninjato sword to break the lock. Walk forward and pick up the <shuriken(3)>. Turn left and walk to the corner. Use a shuriken to extinguish the candle ahead of you on your left. Walk in the shadows until there is an open door on your right. Enter it and walk through the door on your right, then through the next open door to perform a triple-hissatsu on 3 guards stationed there. Go towards the exit and turn left. Walk along the wall to get close enough to hissatsu the standing guard. Exit the section. [S-Rank Tip] Dispatch the guard with a throwing weapon and run to the sword to break the lock. Run to the corner and extinguish the candle with your shuriken. Walk into the room on your right and into the next room to come out and triple-hissatsu 3 guards. Then run to the wall near the exit and along it to dispatch the final guard. Run back to the exit. Section 5 --------- Turn right and climb onto the upper-shelf. Move along the shelf to perform a hanging hissatsu on the standing guard. Drop from the shelf, exit through the door, and pick up the <ninjato sword> on your right. Walk through the bushes and dispatch the standing guard. Turn left and go through the open door on the right side of the building to walk up behind a standing guard with his back turned to dispatch him. Exit through the door you walked in and go through the open door on the opposite building (you will see the exit flames in the distance). Walk through the first door on your right and through the next door to perform a hissatsu on a standing guard with his back turned. Walk through the next open door, turn left, and walk behind the standing guard to kill him. Exit the section. [S-Rank Tip] After you have dispatched the first guard, run to dispatch the next two guards and break the lock on the door. Walk through the door and into the 1st room, over the table and then run to dispatch the next two guards and exit. Section 6 --------- Walk forward, turn right, and walk through the bushes. Perform a hissatsu on the sleeping guard and walk through the open door. Walk to your right and through the kitchen watching out for a serving woman who will be getting the merchant a drink. Pick up the <shuriken(3)> and climb onto the rafters. There is a guard on the opposite end (outside the inner-room) as well as the evil merchant in the center of the room. Dispatch the serving woman when she comes to get another drink (not in sight of the guard, of course), then dispatch the standing guard (both with hanging hissatsus). From this guard you can go out a door to the outside, follow along the path to get *Map Piece #2*. Climb back in the rafters or walk behind the evil merchant take him out. [S-Rank Tip] Run to dispatch the sleeping guard and towards the door. Skip the cut-scene and run through the door and around to dispatch the servant woman. Climb onto the rafters and rafter jump to dispatch the guard and merchant. [Path 1-2] If you brought a kasugai at the start of the level and climbed the wall, you will be in a new section. Section 1-2 ----------- Walk along the bushes to your left and wait for the patrolling armored samurai to come to you. Stay still and hissatsu him, then use the <box> to climb the wall. Another armored samurai is patrolling below. Drop down on top of him to hissatsu him. Turn right and follow the path to the open door. Wait until an armored samurai passes by the door, enter and jump on the shelf to your right to climb onto the rafters. Rafter-jump to follow the samurai who passed the door. catch up to him before he enters the room, perform a hanging hissatsu on him. Go forward to hanging hissatsu a standing samurai. Beyond him is *Map Piece #1*. Drop down and wall-hug corner-look the open door on the inside. Wait until a patrolling samurai in the room nears you and hissatsu him when prompted. Get the <silver key> from the corner and exit through the door. Section 1-3 ----------- Walk straight and then left until you can perform a corner climb. Wait for the patrolling samurai to pass by and hissatsu him when prompted. Go back to your starting position and go to your left (where the patrolling samurai was coming from), hiding in the shadows in the corner. Wait for a patrolling samurai to emerge from a door ahead of you and enter that room. Hide in the cabinet doors to your left and hissatsu the patrolling samurai, when prompted, as he walks by your position. Exit the room and go left. Wall-hug corner-look the edge to watch out for a patrolling samurai. wait until he enters a doorway to your right. Walk forward and climb into the corner on the opposite end. Hissatsu the patrolling samurai and go to the open door on your right (the one the patrolling samurai enters, not the one he emerges from). There is a hidden ninja in the corner of the room looking at the open door near the exit. Come up from behind him to dispatch him and exit through the door. Section 1-4 ----------- You are now in Section 2 or the regular route, right by where the cat is located. You can follow the regular route walkthrough from that point. [T2B] Level 02: Punish the Bandit Ringleader ******************************************************************************* There is a second path you can take if you bring a ghostmaker (also bring 2 shurikens if you take this path). Section 1 --------- A patrolling guard is pacing back and forth on the bridge. You can stay hidden in the bushes until he turns his back to walk up behind him and dispatch him. Jump down in the dry ravine below the bridge to get a <bamboo tube>. Climb up the other side so that a bamboo fence is between you and a patrolling guard. You can wall-hug corner-look the fence to hissatsu that guard. Inside an open door to your left is a <ninjato sword>. Go along the path and wall-hug corner- look the wall on the right side to perform a hissatsu on another patrolling guard. Exit through the gate unless you brought a ghostmaker with you. There is a breakable wall between the open-door hut and a wooden tower. Use the ghostmaker and wait in the shadows until the guards calm down. Walk along the shadows to your left. Outside the open door, shoot the ninja hanging in the corner of the hut with a shuriken. Hayate into the hut to pick up *Map Piece #3* and <ghostmaker(1)>. Hayate out of the hut back into the shadows and position yourself so that you are standing in the shadows opposite the standing guard. Wait for the patrolling guard to turn and head away from the standing guard, then throw a shuriken at the standing guard. Immediately run up behind the patrolling guard to hissatsu him. There is <shuriken(2)> near the hut on the other side of a fence. Exit the section and you will emerge at the start of Section 4 of the normal route. [S-Rank Tip] Run to dispatch the guard ahead of you and keep running around the bamboo fence to dispatch the 2nd guard. Run to wall-hug corner-look the edge to dispatch the 3rd guard and run to the exit. Section 2 --------- Use your bamboo tube to extinguish the flaming torch ahead of you, then turn right and go toward the well where you can pick up another <bamboo tube>. Turn left: there is a patrolling guard pacing in between 2 buildings. When it is safe, walk and hide in the bushes on your right. Wait until he turns away from you to walk behind him and dispatch him. Pick up <shuriken(3)>. Walk between the 2 buildings the guard was patrolling and extinguish the flaming torch. Go back the way you came to the position you started at. Move forward in the shadows on your left until you see the rifleman on top of the watchtower. Use a shuriken to dispatch him. Walk to the watchtower and turn right. There is a tunnel going underneath the building. Enter it to the other side and wait for the patrolling guard to pass you. Exit the tunnel and dispatch him from behind [Alternate Route]. Go back to the watchtower and exit. Alternate Route: There is a large box with planks in it that is highlighted when you use your ninja vision. You can push this box to reveal another tunnel. You will emerge at a different place in Section 3 [Emerge 2-1]. [S-Rank Tip] Run to your right to get the <bamboo tube> and run into the 1st bush. When the patrolling guard turns his back run to dispatch him and keep running ahead to dispatch the patrolling guard in the corner. Run back to get the shurikens and extinguish the flaming torch. Run around to the beginning and walk in the shadows until you can dispatch the rifleman in the watchtower. Run to the exit. Section 3 --------- Go forward along the path and wall-hug corner-look the edge to see a patrolling guard along the next path. When he turns, go behind him to dispatch him. Move along the shadows and enter the gate on your right (ignoring the standing guard surrounded by flaming torches ahead of you). Enter the open door. Move forward but stay to the right of the open door ahead of you to avoid being spotted by a patrolling guard in the next room. A room on your right side contains a water jug. Wall-hug corner-look the edge, and when the patrolling guard turns away from you, go behind him to dispatch him. You are now in a room with a kettle in the center. [Aside]: To your right is a stack of wooden blocks. Jump on top of them and climb onto the rafters. Face left where the water jug room is and rafter jump to the wall facing you. Turn right and rafter jump to the wall facing you. Drop down to collect *Map Piece #4*. Climb back up onto the rafters and go back to the kettle room. Exit the door of the kettle room and dispatch the standing guard facing away from you. Pick up <shuriken(3)>. Turn around and hide in the 3 bushes in the corner. This is where you start from [Emerge 2-1]. There is a patrolling guard. When he turns you can run behind him to dispatch him or you can go under the wooden walkway and shimmy forward to hissatsu him when he is close. Ahead of you is another well with a <bamboo tube>. Turn left at the corner to face the same situation (except be careful, there is a patrolling guard who can emerge from a gate ahead of you so do not dispatch the patrolling guard too close to the gate). Wait until you see the patrolling guard emerge from the gate, turn, and walk away. If you are close, you can go behind him and dispatch him or you can wall-hug corner-look the door of the gate to hissatsu him. Go through the gate. On your left is a standing guard with his back turned (dispatch him - he is the guard you ignored earlier). On your right is the exit. [S-Rank Tip] Immediately run around the corner to dispatch the guard. Run through the gate and into the house to wall-hug corner-look and dispatch the patrolling guard when he turns. Run out of the house to dispatch the guard facing away. Run past the bushes and you should catch the guard with his back turned. Keep running to the next corridor and do the same to his buddy. You should see a guard ahead turn and start walking back to an open gate: run to dispatch him from behind. Go through the gate and turn left to dispatch the final guard and run to the exit. Section 4 --------- Pick up the <fishing rod> ahead of you. Turn left and use the fishing rod to retrieve the <bronze key> in the garden. Unlock the gate with the key. Turn left and hide in the second bush to wait for a patrolling guard to come by to dispatch. There is a standing guard with his back turned watching the garden where the key was. Go behind him for an easy kill. Go to the edge of the water. There is a patrolling guard along a small bridge on the opposite shore. Use your <fishing rod> to hissatsu him when he is at the water's edge. Enter the water. If you swim to the left side, you can find a corner that has a <ninjato sword>. On the opposite side of the shore from here is <shuriken(3)>. Swim to the opposite shore (the bridge where you dispatched the patrolling guard) and emerge from the water. Walk around the standing guard and dispatch him from behind. Exit through the gate. [S-Rank Tip] Pick up the fishing rod and run along the fence and to the right to dispatch a patrolling guard while his back is turned. Turn around and run to dispatch the standing guard, jump over the fence and get the key. Run to the water's edge to use the fishing rod to dispatch the guard on the opposite side. Running jump as far as you can and emerge on the other side to run around and dispatch the final guard. Section 5 --------- You are facing a locked door. Turn right and walk along the wall (opposite the shadows) until you near the edge. Wall-hug corner-look to perform a hissatsu on a patrolling guard. Walk towards the standing guard with his back turned. Pick up the <bronze key> and dispatch the guard. Move forward and wall-hug corner-look the edge where the standing guard was facing and hissatsu another patrolling guard. You can unlock the exit door with the gold key. Keep moving to the end of the path and there will be a <silver key> to your left. Go back to where you found the gold key and jump on the large boxes to climb onto the rafters. Go through the hole in the wall and drop down. There is a <fishing rod>. Go through the open door and turn right to exit through a hole in the floor. Continue to where you started the section and unlock the door with the silver key. Do not walk onto the sand. Instead, use the fishing rod when the patrolling samurai is near the flaming torch. There is a <ninjato sword>, <shuriken(1)>, <bamboo tube>, <rock(1)>, and <shuriken(1)> in the sand garden area. Go back and exit the section. [S-Rank Tip] Use the key to unlock the door and the fishing rod to dispatch the patrolling samurai when he nears the flaming torch (it will take several seconds for him to come into sight). Dispatch the next 3 guards the same as the walkthrough and pick up the gold key to run to the exit. Section 6 --------- To your left is a patrolling guard. Walk along the shadows and hide behind the pillar. When he turnsand walks away from you, go behind him and dispatch him. Move the large box to the opposite pillar and jump on it to hang onto the ledge of the upper-level. Wait until the patrolling guard nears to perform a hissatsu. Climb up and go to your left. Running jump over the gap. Wait until a patrolling guard ahead of you turns and starts back to your left, then running jump over the gap and go behind the patrolling guard to hissatsu him. [Note: If you are not quick enough, your hissatsu might send him over the edge where the broken fence of the upper-level is. Use the shaking nunchuk hissatsu or a running hissatsu to keep him from falling] You can walk to the edge of where the broken fence is to hissatsu the bandit ringleader and end the level. To the right of the large statue on the upper-level is a <ninjato sword>. Jump down from there and go forward for <shuriken(2)>. Walk back towards the pillar and hissatsu the standing guard with his back to you. Walk along the left-side to hissatsu another guard with his back facing you. Go back to the box and get on the upper-level to finish the bandit ringleader. There is a <rock(2)> on the left side of the large statue on the lower level but you cannot kill that guard without the bandit ringleader noticing. [S-Rank Tip] Do the same as the walkthrough except run and do not bother picking items up. A running hissatsu will not cause the guard on the upper- level to fall off. [T2C] Level 03: Take Daimyo Tado's Life ******************************************************************************* You can bring 2 ghostmakers for an extra part in section 2. Section Progress Time Total Enemies ------- ------------- ------------- 1 2:40 6 2 5:20 11 3 8:00 16 4 10:40 21 5 13:20 27 6 16:00 32 Section 1 --------- Start walking forward. You will see a patrolling guard walk from the right to the left side ahead of you with his back turned. You have enough time if you keep walking to hide in the jar for when he turns around to perform a hidden jar hissatsu. If you are taking your time, you can hide under a small wooden walkway on your right or in the shadows until the patrolling guard comes near to dispatch him. Turn right; there is a patrolling guard on the other side of a shallow pit. Wait until he turns and walks away from you to go forward, jump up and hide in cabinet doors to wait for him to come close and dispatch him. There is <rock(1)> behind the flaming torch. To the right of the torch are 2 small boxes that you can move to reveal a tunnel. Go through the tunnel to a room with *Map Piece #5* and a <bamboo tube>. Go back through the tunnel and walk forward (hide in the jar to your right or stay in the tunnel if a patrolling guard is approaching. Walk forward to get in another jar and hissatsu a patrolling guard. Emerge when the 2nd patrolling guard is not looking, and go under the wooden walkway. Make your way to the end of the walkway and hissatsu the patrolling guard when he turns away from you. Walk along the 2nd guard's path and there will be a 3rd patrolling guard on the path to your right. Wait until he turns away from you and kill him from behind. You can get <rock(1)>. There is a patrolling guard on the upper-level above you. Use a rock to dispatch him. Exit through the gate. [S-Rank Tip] Bring one rock with you into the level. Immediately run forward to dispatch the 1st guard. Back up and use the rock to dispatch a patrolling guard on the upper level. Turn and run behind the patrolling guard to take him out. Turn left and run to hide in the jar. The rest should be simple. Section 2 --------- Walk forward and jump on the wooden crate. Jump over the fence and hide in the narrow slit on your left before the flaming torch. Watch for the patrolling guard; when he turns away from you, exit the slit, jump on the next wooden crate and over the fence. Hide in the cabinet doors to your left and wait for the patrolling guard to come back to hissatsu him. There will be a 2nd patrolling guard to your left. Make sure he is walking away from you, exit the cabinet doors and walk behind him on his left side (at one point, he pauses and looks to his right). You can follow the 2nd guard and perform a double- hissatsu when you are near the patrolling guard and a standing guard (or you can dispatch the patrolling guard quickly and use the wooden walkway to dispatch the standing guard). Exit through the doors. [Aside]: If you brought 2 ghostmakers, there is a breakable wall near where you start. From where the cabinet doors are, throw a ghostmaker to break the wall. Do not go near it yet as a riled up samurai will be patrolling the area near the broken wall. When he is calmed down, enter the hole in the wall and you can get a <ninjato sword>. Follow the path and carefully position yourself so that you can see him through the doorway but he cannot see you. Throw your second ghostmaker to dispatch him. There is a ninja on a shelf to the left of the entrance. Enter the door close to the shelf (left side) and go to your right. Use a rock to dispatch him. Pick up <ghostmaker(2)>. You can use a fishing rod to get <smoke bomb(1)> if the ninja drops it. [S-Rank Tip] Immediately go forward and jump over the fences by jumping from wooden crate to wooden crate. When you are on the final one, if you were fast enough, the patrolling guard should be stopped and ready to start walking away from you. Once he does, dispatch him. You should be quick enough to run around the corner and double-hissatsu the 2 patrolling guards (one might start to notice you, but, alas, too late). If you are not quick enough, just wall-hug corner-look the edge to dispatch the 2nd guard and use the wooden walkway to dispatch the final guard. Section 3 --------- Walk forward and dispatch the sleeping guard. Keep walking and there is <rock(1)>. Ahead and to your left across two small pits is a patrolling guard. Use a rock to dispatch him when he is near the pit. There are two separate ways you can go from here. [Way 1]: Jump on the wooden beams and shimmy to the middle ground between the two pits where there is <rock(2)> if you drop down. Shimmy to the other side where there is <rock(1)>. There is a patrolling guard on the other side of water to your right. Use a rock on him near the water or swim in the water if you have a bamboo tube to underwater hissatsu him. Exit the water. [Way 2]: Use your <ninjato sword> to break the lock; wait until the patrolling guard in the cave turns his back and walks away to go behind him and dispatch him. There is <rock(1)> in the cave. Exit the other side and turn left to see the patrolling guard you would have killed at the end of [Way 1]. There is one final patrolling guard. Get under the wooden walkway and wait for him to turn his back. You can get behind him or hide in the jar to dispatch him when he comes back. If you went [Way 2], go behind the guard patrolling near the water when he turns his back (or use the wooden walkway). Exit through the gate. [S-Rank Tip] Run and follow Way 2, except you should dispatch the guard near the exit when he turns. Section 4 --------- Start walking forward and hide in the jar to hissatsu the patrolling guard. You can pick up <rock(1)> near a crate and an underground tunnel prior to the jar. Turn left through the door and pick up <smoke bomb(2)>. Walk up the stairs until you are on the 3rd step from the top. Throw a smoke bomb right at the bottom of the guard you see and go in to perform a triple-hissatsu. There is *Map Piece #6* here and a <ninjato sword>. Exit out the the door near the bench but rather than going down the stairs, stay up top to the left. Get on the rafters to perform a hanging hissatsu on the patrolling guard. Descend from the rafters and exit through the gate. [S-Rank Tip] Same as the walkthrough but run. You can get turned around after the triple-hissatsu, so remember to exit on the bench side, not the crate side. Section 5 --------- Hide in the bush to your left and throw a rock at the rifleman watching from above at the other end on top of the cliff to the right. Use hayate to move between the next two bushes (if you are not fast enough, just wait for the patrolling guard to walk away before going to the 3rd bush as he can be alerted to you travelling to the 3rd bush if he is close enough). Kill the patrolling guard from the bush. There is <rock(1)> on the side of a small fence. Use hayate to move between bushes and dispatch the next patrolling guard when he turns. You can climb on the stand where the rifleman was to get a <smoke bomb(1)>. Go into the tunnel a little and watch out for 2 patrolling guards. Wait until you see one of the patrolling guards ahead of you with his back to you. Kill him and the other patrolling guard should be ahead of you to your left with his back turned toward you. As you move forward, there is a 3rd patrolling guard in a more open space. On your left, before two rafters above you, is an underground tunnel you can use to hide in some shadows where there is <rock(1)>. Wait for the patrolling guard to pass you before getting behind and dispatching him. [S-Rank Tip] After you dispatch the rifleman, you should be able to run and hide in the bush near the next guard for a quick hissatsu and then do the same with the next guard. Get the smoke bomb where the rifleman was and as you enter the cave you should see a patrolling guard going left to right. Dispatch him and continue. Section 6 --------- Pick up the <poison> (exchange with your rocks if your inventory is full). Exit the hut where there is <rock(1)> to your left. There is a <fishing rod> in the hut that you can access by going under the hole in the wall. Walk forward for a cut-scene about poisoning. Move to the right and avoid being spotted by the serving woman. As soon as she goes back to serve the Daimyo, go into the hut she came out of, equip the poison and poison the water in the barrel. Climb up into the rafters and wait for her to get the poisoned water. The Daimyo will drink the poisoned water and the level is over. [Aside] You can choose not to poison the Daimyo. Dispatch the serving woman and look in the door. You can use your smoke bomb to go in and perform a double-hissatsu on a guard and the Daimyo (make sure to throw the smoke bomb a little more towards the entrance as there is another guard who can spot you entering. [Alternate] You can also use the box to climb up a ledge and through a hole in the wall to be on the rafters in the Daimyo's room. Walk along the ledges blowing out the candles and performing hanging hissatsus on the sitting guards. Drop down into the shadows to get behind the Daimyo to dispatch him. There is <shuriken(2)> in the corner and <smoke bomb(2)> outside the room on the balcony. [S-Rank Tip] Immediately run to dispatch the servant woman going towards the barrel house. Then use the box to climb onto the rafters through the hole in the main house. Walk along the rafters and hanging hissatsu the 1st 2 sitting guards and walk to the center of the horizontal rafter facing the Daimyo. When the 2 guards are near the Daimyo, use your smoke bomb, drop down and triple- hissatsu them. Boss Swordfight: Rinshi ----------------------- Rinshi likes to use |, /, and -- (vertical, diagonal right, and horizontal). Her quick combo is |/--. When she shouts "I'm actually trying now, you should be honored" she will attack more quickly. Remember, you can counter attack if you press A as she strikes your sword (I believe it must be a perfect block) and you dispatch enemies quicker in swordfights if you create a high combo from attacking in the directions the blue arrows show you. [T2D] Level 04: Hurry to Goda Castle Keep ******************************************************************************* Bring a ghostmaker to blow up a breakable wall in section 3. Section Progress Time Total Enemies ------- ------------- ------------- 1 2:51 4 2 5:42 9 3 8:34 15 4 11:25 21 5 14:17 26 6 17:08 30 7 20:00 36 Section 1 --------- Go to your left along the shadows and hide in the bush behind the guard. Dispatch him. Grab the <shuriken(2)> to your left and hide in the shadows facing towards the gate. Wait until the patrolling guard turns and starts walking back to his right, then use a shuriken to kill a ninja hiding in the trees/corner of the wall to the left of the gate. Run behind the patrolling ninja and dispatch him, then walk behind the final standing guard to end him. Grab the <kasugai> on the left side and walk over to the exit flames and use the kasugai to scale the wall. [S-Rank Tip] As soon as the patrolling guard starts walking left, run from the bush to dispatch the standing guard from his right Section 2 --------- Blow out the flaming torch closest to you and walk along the shadows to your left until you are facing a standing guard facing one direction while a patrolling guards walks left and right. Wait for the patrolling guard to pass the standing guard going from left to right, and use a shuriken to dispatch the rifleman in the watchtower above who will fall and take out the standing guard. Then go behind the patrolling guard to dispatch him and end up back where you started the section. Go through the open door and get the <bamboo tube>. Back outside, walk forward on the left side. Next to the wagon is *Map Piece #7*. Go under the wooden walkway and into the bushes on the other side. Walk along the bushes, past the standing guards, and come out to perform a double-hissatsu. Exit through the gate. Section 3 --------- Blow out the candle-post and walk forward using the shadows on your left. Wait until the patrolling guard walks back towards you and dispatch him. Keep walking along the shadows, blowing candle-posts out, and turn the corner by the well where another patrolling guard is pacing. Walk along the shadows until you can dispatch him from behind. There is a <bamboo tube> and a <ninjato sword> in a small room with a breakable wall. [Aside]: Blow up the wall with a ghostmaker. Use a shuriken to dispatch a ninja hiding in a bush to the right of the opening (you will need to go through the opening on your left into a bush). Pick up <smoke bomb(3)> and <ghostmaker(3)>. Go to your right and enter the pond. Swim under the bridge and go to your left. Wait until the patrolling guard on your left side turns his back on you. Emerge from the water and dispatch him (if he is further away, emerge and hide in the bushes to dispatch him). If you turn around, there is <rock(1)> on the other side of the pond. To your left is a standing guard watching the bridge. Go behind him to dispatch him and get *Map Piece #8* on the bridge. Turn towards the main hourse. To the left of the walkway is a <smoke bomb(1)>. Wall-hug corner peak the left side of the door to the main house where a standing guard who turns all directions is located. As soon as he turns from the main door, go in and dispatch him (you can also extinguish candles and hide in the shadows if you do not want to rush). Exit through the door. [S-Rank Tip] Immediately run to your left along the wall to dispatch the 1st patrolling guard. Blow out the 3rd candle post and walk along the shadows to dispatch the 2nd patrolling guard. Do not bother with the breakable wall; that ninja can be skipped. Section 4 --------- You start in the shadows. There is a ninja hiding in the bushes to your left. You can throw a shuriken to dispatch him or carefully walk along the left side to get behind him. Beyond that ninja, if you have kasugai, you can scale the wall into the Castle Keep (you will start at the same starting place in Section 5 as the normal route). There is a patrolling ninja along the pathway. When he turns away, go behind him and dispatch him. Go to your right and walk along the shadows to the right of the pathway. Be careful as there is a section of that shadow will become visible every now and then. Wait for it to become shadow and walk to the end. Get behind the standing guard and dispatch him. Go to the right side of the room with an open door and use a box to jump up and climb on top of the roof. Go along the roof, picking up the <smoke bomb(1)> and drop down at the other side. Go through the open door and dispatch a standing guard facing away from you where there is a <kusagai>. Exit the room from where you came and climb up the stone entranceway where the box of fireworks are. You can walk along the wall to double-hissatsu the two standing guards. Exit through the doors. Section 5 --------- Walk to your right, up the steps of the wooden platform and climb onto the rafters. Walk along the rafters and perform a hanging hissatsu on a standing guard below you. Drop down from the rafters. You can go forward and out a door to your right to go outside and get <rock(2)>. Enter the door near the dispatched guard and go along the right side to kill a sitting guard and then kill the sleeping guard where a <ninjato sword> is. Pick up the box in the room and go back to where you started the section. This time, go to your left and set the box down on the wooden platform to get on the box and climb onto the rafters. Go along the rafters, hanging hissatsu the standing guard, and exchange your <bamboo tube> for <shuriken(3)>. Drop down and wall-hug corner- look on the right wall. Wait until the standing guard turns to get behind him and dispatch him. Exit up the stairs. Section 6 --------- To your right is a window - you can kill the ninja in the shadows with a shuriken, but do not do it yet unless you want to alert a patrolling guard. Walk along the left side to the corner, turn right, and walk into the shadows on your left. Turn right and walk through the open door behind the shades where the <kasugai> is. Wait until the patrolling guard leaves and use the kasugai to go under the tatami mat. When the patrolling gaurd comes back, dispatch him. At this point you can go back to the start and kill the hidden ninja to pick up <poison> in that room. Walk forward to the next room where there is a <shuriken(1)>. Wall-hug corner-look the door to wait for a patrolling guard to dispatch him. Through the door, you can turn left to dispatch the standing guard facing away. To the right, exit up the stairs. [S-Rank Tip] Immediately run to the wall, turn, and use a rock to extinguish the candle nearest to you. Run along the shadows until the guard is alerted, then walk to the edge and out of the shadows tapping A quickly to dispatch him. At that point, the patrolling guard should be facing away from you at the corner; run to dispatch him and wall-hug corner-look the doorway. The final patrolling guard should be turned and walking away - dispatch him and run to the window on your left to dispatch the hiding ninja. Section 7 --------- Walk up the wooden platform and climb onto the rafters. Keep moving and hanging hissatsu a standing guard below you. Drop down past the open door and Wall-hug corner-look the open door. There is a sitting guard looking to the left side, a patrolling guard in the room, and another patrolling guard in the next room. When the coast is clear, hide under the table and move forward towards the edge. Dispatch the patrolling guard in the room when he nears. Move back and dispatch the sitting guard and jump up on the boxes where he was looking. Get the <shuriken(1)> and climb into the upper level. Walk forward and turn left into the shadows. Use a shuriken to dispatch a hidden ninja right behind <shuriken(3)>. Move to the end and look down into the room below with your ninja vision. When the patrolling guard is not looking your way, drop down behind the shades and blow out the candle. Wait for him to pass by you and dispatch him. Enter the next room and wall-hug corner-look the left side of the door. When the standing guard who turns looks away, dispatch him. You can pick up a <silver key>. Go back into the room where the sitting guard was and go left to another room. Use the silver key to open the door where there is <shuriken> on the ground. Climb into the roof where there is a <smoke bomb(1)>. Drop down and go back through the exit. [S-Rank Tip] Skip the last room that requires the key. Boss Swordfight: Ayame ---------------------- Ayame likes to use combos like this: /|\-- and \|\-- When she says, 'Not bad,' she will strike faster. Jump on the tree branch and swing to the next branch. Shimmy to the right and drop down on the group to pick up the <kasugai>. Get back on the branch, shimmy to the left, swing to the next branch and swing to the ground. Go forward and climb up the ledge to your left to dispatch the standing guard facing away from you. Walk back along the left side to the starting position. This time go left in the shadows. Pick up <smoke bomb(2)> and use the kasugai to climb up the rock wall. Walk along the upper level to the end. Drop down on top of the guard standing there for a hissatsu (as you drop, keeping pressing A). Turn right and go along the shadows to dispatch the standing guard with his back to you. Turn left and go to the edge of the cliff. Use your ninja vision to see the footsteps and drop down onto a small platform. Jump on the branch, shimmy to the right, and swing to the next branch. Swing to the next branch, shimmy to the left, and swing to the ground. Hang on to the cliff ledge and hissatsu the armored samurai. Pick up *Map Piece #9*. Head out the exit. Section 2 --------- Pick up the <ninjato sword> on your right and head over the bridge. Cross the gap by swinging on the two branches, climb up the ledge, and turn right. Running jump over the gap of the broken bridge, turn left, drop down two levels, and swing on two branches to cross the gap. Swing on two more branches to reach ground. Running jump over the next gap. Walk forward and running jump over the gap on your left. Hang on to the ledge and hissatsu the patrolling guard. Climb up and head right to the flaming torch. Make sure you are on the same level as the two guards to your left - head left and hide in the bushes. When the patrolling guard gets to the nearby tree and turns, go behind him to dispatch him. Then dispatch the standing guard to your right. Go back to the flaming torch, keeping to your left and hiding in the shadows after the big closed gate. Jump on the crate, hang on the ledge, and dispatch the patrolling samurai. Drop back down. You should be facing a standing guard facing away and on his left is a standing guard that turns direction. Move closer to the guard who turns, staying in the shadows, and when he turns towards the direction of the exit, dispatch him. Walk behind the standing guard to dispatch him. There is a broken bridge. Running jump over it to pick up *Map Piece #10* and exit through the gate. Section 3 --------- Hayate along the bushes on the left and get under the Wagon. When the end of the wagon is several feet on the bridge, disembark. If you want, go back along the center of the bridge (if you are on the left edge you will be spotted) and double-hissatsu the two standing guards then run back along the right side of the bridge and wagon. Otherwise, stay on the right side of the wagon and hide in the bushes on the right. Hayate across two bushes to the one near the standing guard and dispatch him. Quickly get to the next bush while the other guard is still checking the wagon. Wait until he walks towards you and dispatch him from the safety of the bushes. Get the <bamboo tube> in between the building and tower. Exit into the tunnel. Section 4 --------- Move along the shadows to your right and face the patrolling ninja with the tower ahead to your right and a standing guard on your far right. Wait until the patrolling ninja passes you and head behind him, dispatching him under cover of the watchtower (not in the path where the guard to the far right can spot). Make sure that guard is not looking and cross back to the shadows (may have to hayate into the shadows if he starts to notice you). Walk along the shadows to the edge of the building. Wait until the guard turns and dispatch him. [Aside] A standing guard may notice the body depending upon the position. If so, head back to your starting position and wait for him to calm down. Pick up <shuriken(5)> and head back to your starting position in the shadows. Use a shuriken to dispatch the rifleman in the watchtower. Use a shurkien to dispatch the standing guard near the well, then use a shuriken to dispatch a ninja in the shadows on the opposite wall. Go left into the house and pick up the <shuriken(3)> and the <silver key>. Head out and unlock the door across from the watchtower. Exit through the door. Section 5 --------- Go forward through the door. Wall-hug corner-look at the door to your right. When the patrolling guard turns to head back, dispatch the standing guard that is watching him and then run to dispatch the patrolling guard before he turns (you may need to use hayate if the standing guard behind him starts to spot you). If you are not fast enough, use a smoke bomb to double-hissatsu both of them. Otherwise, use a smoke bomb to hissatsu the standing guard making sure a patrolling guard to your left is not in sight. Turn and wall-hug corner-look the wall to see where the patrolling guard is. When he leaves the building to your left and turns, dispatch him. The building on your right contains the <bronze key>. Head back down the path that ends with a closed gate with an open door on your left and right. Go into the left door and straight to the other side; turn left and head up the stairs. Get the <ninjato sword>. Head back and go to the door on your right. Use the <bronze key> to unlock the next door and dispatch the standing guard with his back to you. Exit through the door. Section 6 --------- Wait until you see a patrolling ninja peak out from behind a house. Run along the side of the house and wall-hug corner-look the edge to hissatsu the ninja when he comes back. Ahead of you is a lock with <smoke bomb(2)> in the room. Blow out the candle-post and hide in the shadows. There will be a patrolling samurai to your right. Head along the shadows not getting too close to the samurai and follow the shadows behind the house where there is <shuriken(3)>. Jump on boxes at the back of the house to climb up on the roof. Stay at the left side of the roof and when the patrolling samurai nears, jump on top of him, dispatching him. Use a shuriken to dispatch the rifleman on top of the tower. To your right is an open door beyond which is <rock(3)>. You can go underneath the wooden walkway, in the bush and under the wagon to exit. Else, head to the left of the watchtower and push the wooden box with planks to the end. Walk in the shadows and use a smoke bomb to dispatch the standing samurai. If the other samurai is alerted, wait for him to calm. Go under the wooden walkway and hide in the bushes. Use a smoke bomb to dispatch the other standing samurai. [S-Rank Tip] Having killed all of the previous enemies, you can leave the last two samurais in peace to cut down on time. Use a kunai to dispatch a ninja hiding in the bushes past the flaming torch. In the cave ahead of you there is one patrolling ninja. Wait until you see him with his back to you, enter the cave and dispatch him. To your left is a <smoke bomb(1)>. To your right behind boxes is <rock(1)> as wellas a tunnel leading to the other side. Go to your left and see a ninja on top of the rafters in the distance. Climb into the nearby rafters. Wait for a patrolling guard to go past him and underneath you. Dispatch the patrolling guard and use a kunai to dispatch the ninja. There is <kunai(2)> in the rafters where the ninja was hiding. Further in the cave is <rock(1)>. Go toward the cave exit. There is a patrolling guard outside to your left. From inside the cave, dispatch a ninja in the 2nd bush ahead of you to your left. Wait inside the cave until the guard turns and then hide in the bushes to dispatch him when he comes back. On top of the tower is a <ninjato sword> which you can climb onto. Exit through the gate. Section 2 --------- Ahead of you is a <shinobi cat> and <rock(1)>. Walk to the edge of the wooden gate. To your left is a hidden ninja behind it with his back to you (dispatch him). Turn left; underneath the wooden walkway is a hidden ninja - dispatch him with a throwing weapon. Go to the wooden walkway, turn right, and dispatch a ninja hiding below a wooden bridge on the upper level at the opposite end. Walk forward through the gate and stay to your right a couple of feet from the flaming torch. Turn left and there is a patrolling samurai on the ground and a ninja on top of the bridge. Wait for the samurai to come as close to you as he does, face left, face opposite you, count two seconds and dispatch the ninja with a kunai and he will kill the samurai on his fall (you can use the wooden walkway/jar to kill the samurai and then dispatch the ninja if you cannot do it the first way). Collect <kunai(2)> and <ninjato sword> where the samurai was. Use the shinobi cat to jump the boxes near the flaming torch in the corner. Go through the hole in the wall and up the stairs. There is a sleeping guard with a <shinobi cat> in the room as well as *Map Piece #11*. [S-Rank Tip] Do not bother using the shinobi cat in this level. Section 3 --------- A patrolling guard is walking away from you. Follow behind him and kill him or wait in the jar for him to come back. A <bamboo tube> is by a flaming torch and <kunai(1)> near the jar. To your left will be a guard with a box on his back. Wait until he turns and kill him (you can use the wooden walkway). Pick up the dynamite box and put it by the wooden sticks blocking the cave entrance. Back up to the opposite wooden crate and throw a kunai to detonate it. This opens a short-cut cave. Throw a kunai to kill a ninja hiding behind the door on the opposite end of the cave and wait for the rifleman to calm down. Go through the cave with a <smoke bomb(1)> and distpatch the standing rifleman looking away. Go back through the cave and to where you have not been where there is a <rock(1)>. Stay to your right and enter the shadows. Use a kunai to kill the rifleman. On the other side of the water is a <rock(1)>. Outside the cave door is a house with a hole in it. Using a shinobi cat to go in the house, there is a <shinobi cat>, stairs with a closed door, and *Map Piece #12*. There is a patrolling guard near the path to the exit. Go behind him or hide in the jar. He can hear your footsteps in the water. Exit through the gate. [S-Rank Tip] Do not bother using the shinobi cat in this level. Section 4 --------- Walk to your right by the wooden walkway (there will be a ninja watching in a path to your left so do not stray too far left). There is a patrolling guard ahead of you and a ninja on top of the bridge in the upper level. Go under the wooden walkway to the end to kill the patrolling guard. Back up several feet and exit the wooden walkway. Dispatch the ninja with a kunai. Turn the corner to your left and a patrolling guard is beyond a small fence. When he is turned, jump on the wooden crate, over the fence, and dispatch him. There is <rock(1)> and <shinobi cat>. Use a <shinobi cat> to go through the hole in the wall to where the standing samurai is and pick up a <ghostmaker> (also can go back and pick up <kunai(1)> outside the samurai's door). Jump on the wooden block and use the ghostmaker to destroy the breakable wall to the left of the 3rd wooden box. Wait for the samurai to cool down and enter the new hole in the wall. Turn the corner to your right and use throwing weapons to dispatch the ninja in the rafters. Walk forward behind the standing ninja facing away around the corner to dispatch him. Edge yourself to look into the samurai's room enough to see exploding boxes. Use kunai on them to kill the samurai. [S-Rank Tip] Do not bother going under the wooden walkway. Walk alongside it and dispatch the ninja when the patrolling guard is past him; then run to kill the patrolling guard. Hayate to the next bush. Wait for the patrolling samurai to come back towards you to dispatch him. Wait for a patrolling ninja to pass you going from your left to your right. Run behind him and dispatch him (as long as another patrolling samurai at the opposite end is not watching you). Many times this ninja drops a <smoke bomb(1)>. Walk behind the log storage area to get a <shinobi cat>. Make sure the patrolling samurai is not near and walk forward into one of the bushes. When the samurai returns, dispatch him from the safety of the bushes. Climb onto the roof of the nearest structure. Turn left and running jump to the roof of the log storage building to get <kunai(2)>. Turn right and running jump onto the roof of the next building. Looking forward, you should see the exit. There is a standing guard facing the exit, a patrolling samurai to your left, and a patrolling ninja to your far left. If the patrolling samurai is not close to your position, you can drop down, dispatch the guard, and climb back on top of the roof (jump on top of the building to your left to drop down on the samurai when he comes). If he is close, wait for him to walk between your building and the next to drop on top of him and then go behind the standing guard to dispatch him. Get on the roof of the next building and wait for the patrolling ninja to turn his back, drop down, and run behind the ninja to dispatch him. In the hut furthest left from the exit is a <fishing rod>. In front of that hut, down some stairs to your right is a <rock(1)>. Walk to the fence separating you from where you started the section. Use your shinobi cat to get *Map Piece #13* in the structure to your left. There is also a <ghostmaker(1)> in the structure closest to the exit (using the shinobi cat). Exit through the gates. Section 2 --------- Walk forward to the right of the pillar - there will be a patrolling ninja to your left who walks in front of the big statue to your left. In front of you should be some lanterns and a standing samurai who turns in place (above him is a rifleman that you cannot see). When the patrolling ninja is not around and the standing samurai is turned away from you, walk forward between the next pillar and table and hide in the shadow of the table. Hayate to the next two shadows. Using ninja vision, wait until the patrolling ninja is not walking in your direction and hayate to the last shadow to perform a special hissatsu on a standing ninja which puts you back in the shadow after it is over. Wait for the patrolling ninja to pass you going to the side of the large statue and run behind him along the right wall to dispatch him (if you are not over all the way, the rifleman will spot you). There is <kunai(5)> (could be a drop) and a <ninjato sword> in the corner. Go back where you dispatched the standing ninja, jump on the box, and climb onto the upper level. Ahead of you to your right is a patrolling ninja. When he comes as far left and turns, running jump the gap, turn right, and run behind the ninja to dispatch him (if you are not fast enough, move the box so you are hanging from the ledge of the same level the ninja is on so that, when he turns, you just climb up instead of running jump). Turn right and use kunai to dispatch the rifleman. Walk to the gap and jump down to hissatsu the samurai when he is not looking (or drop down away from him and use a smoke bomb). Exit through the doors. [S-Rank Tip] Run forward until you get to the lanterns and then walk to the shadow of the table. Section 3 --------- Along the right path is <kunai(2)>. Ahead of you is the sand garden. Walk forward but do not go onto the sand. Use kunai to dispatch a standing guard near a well (partially obstructed from your view by a tree on your left). To you right, use a kunai to dispatch a ninja hiding in a bush (a flaming torch is between you and the bush). Go along the right side of the garden until you get to a <bamboo tube>. Use a kunai to dispatch a ninja hiding in the bush near the closed doors. You can also get a <shinobi cat> !!pick up if you are still collecting map pieces!! Walking along the sand will alert a patrolling ninja by the exit - do not be alarmed, he cannot spot you. Go back to where you started and climb onto the rafters to get over the fire, drop down, and get a <ghostmaker(1)>. Wall-hug corner-look the edge to see a patrolling ninja to your left. Wait until he fully turns from you and get behind him to dispatch him. Jump on the box and climb onto the rafters. Go through the hole in the wall and perform a hanging hissatsu on the patrolling samurai. There is a <smoke bomb(1)> here. Get out through the hole in the wall in the floor and go forward to wall-hug corner-look to see a patrolling ninja. When he turns, run behind him to dispatch him (or hide in the shadows and wait for him). On the other side is a <ninjato sword> (need fishing rod to get). Exit through the doors. Section 4 --------- There is a <kunai(1)> on top of a box in front of you. Walk forward. To your right is a standing ninja who turns. Wait until he turns from you, run and dispatch him. There is a broken bridge on your left - face it. Use kunai to dispatch two ninja to your right (one is crouching beyond where the standing ninja is) on a lower level and one ninja to your left (upper level, same as you). Walk to your left along the edge and drop down on solid ground. Walk across the plank and take out the crouching ninja facing the exit. On the opposite side of the pond, on the upper level, is a patrolling samurai. Wait until he is out of sight, jump over the water, cross under the bridge, and use two boxes to jump up to the upper level. Hide in the bushes to your left to take out the patrolling samurai. There is a <ghostmaker(1)> in the corner. In the other corner of the map to the right of the ghostmaker is a <rock(2)>. Exit through the tunnel. Section 5 --------- Walk forward, climb up the ledge, and hang onto the next ledge to hissatsu a patrolling ninja when he gets close. Climb up and there will be a patrolling ninja ahead of you going left and right beyond a building. To your right will be a patrolling samurai parallel to your current position and to your far right is a standing samurai. Go to your right and hide in the middle bush. Wait until the patrolling samurai is away and hide under the wooden walkway to dispatch him when he gets near. Go back to where you started and hide in the shadows near the jar. Use kunai to dispatch a hiding ninja in the shadows in the corner. When the patrolling ninja is not looking, hide in those shadows and wait for him. When he turns away from you, dispatch him. There is a <rock(1)>. Walk forward along the shadows to your left. Use kunai to dispatch a ninja hiding in the next set of shadows ahead of you (<kunai(4)> may be a drop). Go back to the bushes where the standing samurai is and use a ghostmaker to dispatch him. Go to the watchtower. Send a shinobi cat through the tunnel under the house and have him turn left into a narrower tunnel to get *Map Piece #14*. Exit through the door. Section 6 --------- There is a guard standing opposite you on the other side. If you do not have a bamboo tube to squelch the flaming torches, wait until he turns and run at him from the left side to dispatch him. Pick up <kunai(1)>. Walk along the shadows to your right and use a kunai to dispatch a rifleman on the roof to your left. Turn the corner and wall-hug corner-look the door obstructing your vision. There is a standing guard who turns all four directions. Either run at him when he is turned away or use the wooden walkway and shadows on your left to sneak up on him. There is a <shinobi cat>. Go back through the doors and there is <kunai(2)>. Turn left and walk along the wooden walkway/right hand wall. Wall-hug corner-look the edge. Wait until the standing guard turns away and dispatch him (run behind him or go under the wooden walkway). Walk to the next corner and underneath the wooden walkway to sneak up on the next standing guard. Around the corner is a <ninjato sword>. Go in the house and stay on the right hand side. There is a <bamboo tube> in a room to your right. In the room ahead is a standing guard who turns. When he turns away go into the room to your left, jump on the bureau, and climb onto the rafters. [T3] Walkthrough (Shadow Mode) ******************************************************************************* The walkthrough for shadow mode will be slightly different than normal mode. I will focus more on pointing out ways to take out the enemies in different formations assuming you already know the layout well. I will compose this part of the guide assuming you do not bring in items (but it makes it much easier if you bring in extra items). I will include the progress times and total enemies for each mission. If there is a Progress Time(2) or Total Enemies(2), it is for an alternate path. [T3A] Level 01: Kill the Evil Merchant ******************************************************************************* There is a second path you can take if you bring Kasugai. After they calm down, move left along the shadows and dispatch the patrolling guard when he nears. Get the <burning shuriken(1)> in the hut. Dispatch the 2 standing samurai with your burning shuriken(s)/ ghostmaker. [Aside] I was able to just use the burning shuriken on the samurai on the right and, with luck, the patrolling gaurd and other samurai burned themselves. Walk forward on the wall opposite the open doors and use the fishing rod to kill the standing samurai. Exit. Section 4 --------- Go to your right under the wooden bench to the side furthest your starting position. When the patrolling samurai comes near you and turns, shimmy out to dispatch him. [Aside] From the start, when the patrolling samurai walks to your left, go to your right and around under the wooden walkway across from your starting position (need to run at some point). You can then wait for the samurai to walk away and get in the jar to dispatch him when he comes back. Pick up the <silver key> he drops and use it on the door. When the patrolling guard turns, dispatch the standing samurai, exit the walkway from the left and follow behind the patrolling guard to double- hissatsu him and the standing samurai. Tip: You must exit the walkway from the left and go back to the wall, left, and follow behind the patrolling guard. It does take some practice to know where you should be. You can also go back to the cave after you dispatch the standing samurai and wait for them to calm down when they discover the body so you do not feel rushed. Get the <silver key> and exit. Section 4 --------- Go right along the shadows and into the tunnel to dispatch the standing samurai (wait for the patrolling samurai to turn first and count to 2 or else the patrolling samurai will be alerted). Exit the tunnel and get into the jar to dispatch the patrolling samurai (watch where a patrolling guard comes from ahead of you). Wall-hug corner look by the door to dispatch the patrolling guard (you need to be on top of the rock to do this). From the 1st bush, watch until the patrolling samurai turns, hayate to the next two bushes to perform an oni hayate on the standing guard. Hayate into the bush. Dispatch the patrolling guard when he comes to you. Wall-hug the wall to hissatsu the patrolling samurai when he comes back. Go along the watchtower, near the exit, and to your left to dispatch two ninja from behind. Pick up *Mask Piece #9*, go along the front of the cart to the other side to use a rock to dispatch the rifleman on the watchtower. Exit. Section 4 --------- Walk to your right along the shadows to the end to get <rock(2)> to the right of the flaming torch. Walk to the right side to the open door and use a rock to dispatch the ninja hiding up in the corner on the opposite side. Go back to the start of the section and through the door. Dispatch the ninja in the opposite corner of the room with the standing guard. Dispatch the standing guard and get the <silver key> and <ninja veil>. Use the key to unlock the door. When the patrolling samurai is walking away, go in and use the bench to climb onto the rafters. Wait at that position to dispatch the patrolling samurai. Get down and dispatch the standing guard. Back up and go to along the right wall to the exit and climb onto the rafters using the bench. Walk behind the ninja to dispatch him and exit. Section 5 --------- Go through the open door and wall-hug corner-look the next open door to dispatch the patrolling guard. Go upstairs and wall-hug towards the 2nd open door until you can hissatsu the standing samurai in the doorway. Get the <fishing rod>. Use the fishing rod to dispatch the standing samurai outside. Go to the slain samurai to get <burning shuriken(1)>. Go back to the open door across the building with the stairs. Wait until the patrolling samurai in the next room is in the opposite corner, go inside and use the ninja veil (must be quick). When he comes and turns, drop the veil and hissatsu him. Wait until the patrolling samurai is inside the next building and go out in the center of the path near the open door and use your ninja veil. When the patrolling samurai comes and turns, drop the veil and dispatch him (may need to move his body back). Wait until the final patrolling samurai is away and get near the flaming torch and use the ninja veil. When he comes and turns, drop the veil and dispatch him. Exit. Section 6 --------- Go forward and blow out the candle to hide in the shadows. When the patrolling samurai is away and the standing ninja is looking towards the building, go into the shadows of that building and follow them to the back to climb onto the roof. Dispatch the rifleman from behind. Drop down from the back and go into the building to get <ninjato sword> (be careful of the as the patrolling ninja can see). From the shadows at the edge of the building facing the patrolling ninja and standing ninja - when the patrolling samurai is away, double-hissatsu them. Go under the wooden walkway to hide in the bush and use the burning shuriken on the standing samurai to get a <ghostmaker(1)>. Use a ghostmaker on the patrolling samurai. Go over to the locked door near the start of the section and use the ninjato sword to break it. When the patrolling samurai is towards the far end of the room, enter in to your left and climb into the corner to dispatch him when he returns. Grab *Mask Piece #10*. Exit. [Note] There may be a way to triple-hissatsu the patrolling samurai and 2 ninja but I am not sure yet. Enter the cave and the hidden tunnel on the right to dispatch the patrolling ninja. Back out and use a rock to dispatch a ninja on the 1st set of rafters. As soon as you get to him, turn left and use a rock to dispatch a ninja hiding in the corner above the exit to the hidden tunnel. At the end of the cave, hayate to a bush and dispatch the patrolling ninja. Use a rock to dispatch a rifleman to the right of the exit on the upper level. A <ninjato sword> is on the ledge of where you exited the cave. Exit. Section 2 --------- Get <shinobi cat>. Hide behind the bamboo fence and use the shinobi cat to get <rock(3)> and <burning shuriken(1)> by going into the hole in the wall of the building near the exit. When you see the patrolling ninja go away, use a rock to dispatch the ninja hiding under the wooden walkway. Go back and wait for the patrolling ninja to come and calm down. When he turns, run to dispatch him. Use a rock on the ninja hiding in a corner above th jar and hide in that jar to dispatch another patrolling ninja. Get the <bamboo tube> and extinguish the flaming torach near the hole in the wall. Go into the shadows created and use the rock to dispatch the rifleman. Go under the wooden walkway and into the hidden tunnel to dispatch the ninja hiding behind the jar near the exit. Make sure you go back to get any items you dropped. Exit. Section 3 --------- Exchange the ninjato sword for <rock(3)> on right. Use a rock to dispatch a rifleman on the bridge above you. That is where *Mask Piece #11* is located - you need a fishing rod to get it. Hayate under the wooden walkway to your right and exit into the shadows to dispatch the standing guard (fireworks will take away those shadows so be careful). Run to dispatch the patrolling guard with a box on his back (or use the next wooden walkway). Use a rock to destroy the dynamite box near the entrance to the cave. When the patrolling guard with a box on his back comes (other side of the cave), dispatch him. Use a rock to dispatch the rifleman on the upper level bridge and use the wooden ledges to get <smoke bomb(2)>. Use a smoke bomb to dispatch the standing guard at the exit (aim the bomb at the blue flame to the left of the exit). Section 4 --------- Wait to your left. When the patrolling guard turns, go behind him to dispatch him. Wait until the standing guard in the room to your right turns and run by the door. When the standing guard in the corridor turns, use a smoke bomb and dispatch him. Get <rock(1)>. Use the rock to blow up the dynamite boxes in the room with the standing guard. Get <shinobi cat>. Use the shinobi cat to get <ghostmaker(1)> and <ninjato sword> and *Mask Piece #12*. Go back to the starting point near the wooden walkway and use the ghostmaker or burning shuriken on the samurai to end the level. [Alternate] Go past the open doorway and use a smoke bomb to the left of the standing guard to double-hissatsu the guard and samurai to end the section. Section 3 --------- Go left and climb on the rafters to get over the flames. Drop down to get a <ghostmaker(1)>. When the patrolling ninja turns away, run to dispatch him. Then dispatch the patrolling servant woman. Jump on the crate and climb onto the rafters through the hole in the wall to dispatch a patrolling servant woman. Drop down and get the <fishing rod>. Go to the window across from the crates and use the fishing rod to dispatch the patrolling ninja into the well. Do the same with the patrolling samurai. Go into the sand garden to get *Mask Piece #13*. There is also a <hayate pill> in the garden. Exit. Section 4 --------- Go forward and use the fishing rod on the standing samurai to your right on the lower level. Go to your right and use the fishing rod on the standing samurai across the pond on the lower level. Running jump from the broken bridge to the other side with two boxes. Use the fishing rod to dispatch the standing samurai behind you. When the patrolling samurai on the upper level is away, use the boxes to jump onto the upper level and go into the 2nd bush ahead on your right. Hide in teh shadows of the nook in the building and wall- hug corner-look to dispatch the patrolling samurai. Go around to the open door and use the fishing rod through the tall grass to dispatch the standing samurai on the lower level near the exit. Pick up the <fishing rod> behind you and exchange the rock for the <bamboo tube> behind the bush you hid in. Exit. Section 5 --------- Climb up from the well and hide in a bush on your right. When the patrolling samurai is not near, kill the ninja in the next bush and hide there. Hayate to the next bush to dispatch the patrolling samurai; hayate back to the 2nd bush. Walk to the left of the ninja under the wooden walkway to dispatch him. Go back to the well. When the standing ninja turns, run to dispatch him. Use the bamboo tube to extinguish the two flaming torches and use the fishing rod to dispatch the rifleman in the watchtower. You can use a <shinobi cat> to get a <bamboo tube> in the narrow tunnels under the house. There are <kunai(3)> in the corner by the crate with logs in it. Exit. Section 6 --------- Go forward under the hidden bench when the patrolling samurai is away to dispatch him. Go through the open doors and continue along the path until you get to the enctrance to the house. From the doorway, you will see a patrolling ninja and there are ninja in the rafters. Go to your left along the wall. When the patrolling ninja goes into the room on your left, wall-hug corner-look the edge to dispatch him when he comes out. Go into the room and climb onto the rafters. Rafter jump to the rafter on your right and walk along the rafter to dispatch the ninja (if the patrolling ninja on the rafters sees you, he will drop down). Go along the rafters to your left and dispatch the standing samurai where *Map Piece #14* is located. When the standing ninja on the rafters turns, rafter jump behind him to dispatch him. Hanging hissatsu the evil merchant in the corner. [Aside] If you have trouble taking down two of the ninjas in the rafters, purposefully alert them (one way is to throw a kunai at them) and let them drop down. They make for easy hanging hissatsu fodder on the ground. [T3H] Level 08: Rescue Princess Kiku ******************************************************************************* You can bring a Kasugai for an alternate path and a mask piece. If you brought kasugai, use them on the wall behind where you started to go to [Path 8-2]. Use the box to climb over the wall and head through the door on your right to pick up <kunai(2)>. Wall-hug corner-look the open door on your left and when the patrolling samurai on both the inner and outer paths are towards the opposite end, enter the room and hide in the cabinet (if one starts to notice you, you can hayate into the cabinet if you are close). Kill the patrolling samurai on the outer path from the safety of the cabinet and, when the patrolling samurai is walking to your right, exit the cabinet and run out of the door. Go to the other side and throw one of the dynamite boxes into the room in the direction of the key. During the confusion, head to the other side and use a kunai to blow the dynamite box up when the samurai is near it. Enter the room staying near the cabinet side (two alerted ninjas are hidden in two corners), get the <silver key> and use it to exit. [S-Rank Tip] You can ignore the 2 ninja and still get an S-Rank. If you want, bring two throwing weapons into the level to dispatch them. Section 2 --------- Go forward and wall-hug corner-look the nearest door. When the patrolling servant woman comes, dispatch her and get <ninja veil>. Go back to the starting point and dispatch the servant woman patrolling the corridor where you started. Dispatch the patrolling servant woman in the room with cabinet doors (she does come out the door you enter so be careful if you take too much time) where another <ninja veil> is located. Wall-hug corner-look the edge of the next corridor until the patrolling samurai enters the room. Blow the first candle out and use a kunai to extinguish the second. Walk past the open door in the shadows, extinguish the third candle and climb into the corner to dispatch the patrolling samurai. Enter the door the samurai exited and dispatch the two servant women. Exit. [S-Rank Tip] Servant women do not count for the killing S-rank and you do not need the ninja veil so you can completely skip the first servant woman and the last two, saving yourself some time. Section 3 --------- Use the box to climb over the wall and approach the flaming torch adjacent to the wall. When the patrolling guard with the box on his back turns to go to your right, dispatch the standing ninja and the patrolling guard. There is a <ninjato sword> in the corner. Go back out to the starting corridor and turn to the 3 standing nija. Run along the left side and jump before reaching the end of the wall, tapping A continuously, to initiate a triple-hissatsu. [Aside] Many times I wind up performing a running jump hissatsu on one of the ninjas; do not worry, just keep tapping A and when you land you can perform a double-hissatsu on the remaining 2 ninja. Get <kunai(1)>. Enter the building, climb onto the rafters and dispatch the standing servant woman. Make sure you have the ninjato sword for Section 5. Exit. [S-Rank Tip] In case you mess up, it is best to take out the 3 ninja first and then deal with the ninja and guard. Section 4 --------- Dispatch the standing ninja from behind and hayate to the next 2 bushes on your right. Dispatch the standing ninja from the bush (you need to inch out tapping A) and pick up the <fishing rod>. Use it to dispatch the standing samurai on the bridge. Get <shinobi cat> on the bridge and immediately turn around and run back to the bushes. Use the shinobi cat to get <smoke bomb(1)> and use the smoke bomb to dispatch the 2 standing ninja and exit. Section 5 --------- Go forward and use the ninjato sword to break the lock. Climb onto the rafters and dispatch the patrolling samurai in that corridor. When the patrolling samurai in the corridor to the left is not around, hide in the crevace between two drawers to dispatch him when he comes back. Go forward and look out of the open door. Use a kunai to dispatch the ninja hiding in the bushes. Go back to where you entered the building and walk in the shadows until you get to the empty jar. When the standing samurai looks away, go past the jar and back into the shadows. Do this one more time. Inch forward (take a step, wait, take a step, wait, etc.) until you can double-hissatsu the ninja hiding in the shadows and the standing samurai. Look through the open door: if the patrolling samurai goes left to right, run in and wall-hug corner-look to the right of the open space; if he goes right to left, wall-hug corner-look to the left of the open space. Dispatch the patrolling samurai and get the <ninja veil> and <silver key>. Use the key to exit. [S-Rank Tip] Do not forget the ninja in the bushes outside. You should be able to dispatch the 2 patrolling samurai on their first pass. Section 6 --------- Go out of the door, turn right, and go forward into the open door on the left. There is a <ninja veil> in the room. Go downstairs, blow out the candle, and hide in the shadows to watch the open doorway and the patrolling samurai. When he walks away, walk to the 3rd set of wooden pillars on either side and use the ninja veil. The next time he comes around and turns, drop the veil and dispatch him. Go downstairs. The cell on the far left has a <silver key>. Blow out the candle along the corridor and walk in the shadows past the open door with a standing samurai. Go to the left-hand locked door and wait for the patrolling servant woman to turn, unlock the door, and dispatch her. Get the <bronze key> and exit this building, using the key to unlock the next door. Enter the door and wall-hug corner-look on the left of the first door to dispatch the servant woman (there is a <ghostmaker(1)> in this room). Go to the next open door and wait for the samurai to walk away. Enter the room near the lamp in the corner and use your ninja veil to conceal yourself. Dispatch the patrolling samurai and get the <gold key> (and the ghostmaker I mentioned earlier). You can use the ghostmaker to kill the standing samurai in the other building to get a <silver key>. [S-Rank Tip] Do not use the ghostmaker to kill the standing samurai. You are allowed 3 missed enemies: the 2 ninja and this samurai. Section 7 --------- Get <kunai(2)>. Enter the bushes and dispatch the patrolling guard with the box on his back. Use the box to climb onto the wall. If you still have your ghostmaker, throw it at the 4 samurai to dispatch them all. Then you can drop down, there is a <ninjato sword> on the wooden walkway, and get the <silver key> in the central room (where the evil merchant sat). If you did not keep your ghostmaker, there is a <ghostmaker(1)> in the kitchen. The *Mask Piece #16* is on top of the exit (need a fishing rod). Exit. Section 8-2 ----------- Go through the open gate and use the shadows to climb onto the rafters. There are 2 standing samurai, 1 patrolling samurai, and a ninja on the rafters. Hanging hissatsu the samurai and approach the ninja from the sides or behind to dispatch him. Drop down to get *Mask Piece #15* and a <hayate pill>. Exit. Section 8-3 ----------- This is Section 3 starting inside the area with the patrolling guard and standing ninja. Go left into the shadows behind the statues until you are behind the 2nd patrolling guard and dispatch him. Go back to Kiku and go right to get the <kunai(1)> on the land by the 2nd branch. When you completely cross the gap, grab the ledge and shimmy right to dispatch a standing samurai. Climb up and use a kunai to dispatch the standing guard on the upper level. Go left behind the wagon and to the other side and follow the shadows along the mountainside to dispatch the standing guard. Go right to the edge and drop down to dispatch a standing samurai. Exit. If you brought kasugai, use them to climb the mountain near the beginning of the section and follow the path to the end to get *Mask Piece #17*. Exit. Section 2 --------- Go left along the shadows and wait behind the tree for the 1st lightning strike. Then go to the edge of the shadows and wait for the patrolling guard to stop and say 'hmmm'. Dispatch him from the side, turn left and go along the mountainside to get around and dispatch the 2nd patrolling guard (move his body away from the open path - I usually dump it off the edge). Hide in the nearby bush to dispatch a patrolling samurai and enter through the open gate and hide in the nearest bush on your right to dispatch another patrolling samurai who enters through that same gate. Pick up the <ghostmaker(1)> and use it on the standing samurai at the exit. If you go back towards Kiku, there is <kunai(2)> and a <ninjato sword> near the broken bridge. Exit. [S-Rank Tip] Do not go back for the kunai or sword. Section 3 --------- Hide in the 2nd bush on your left, nearest the bridge, to dispatch the patrolling guard (he has sharp eyes, so constantly tap A when he nears). Get the <ninja veil> (there is also a <ninjato sword> and <shinobi cat> in this area). When the patrolling samurai turns, go on the right hand side of the bridge to the 2nd rope and use the ninja veil. When the patrolling samurai comes back and turns, drop the veil to perform a double-hissatsu on the samurai and standing guard. Go back to the bushes and wait for the other patrolling samurai to calm down. When he walks away, go along the right-hand side of the bridge to the 2nd rope from the end and use your ninja veil to dispatch him the same way. Then dispatch the standing guard with his back turned. There is <rock(2)> on the ground. Walk forward and peer through the open door on your left. When the patrolling samurai is not looking, cross to the other side of the open door and wall-hug corner-look to dispatch him. There is a <ninjato sword> in the room. Section 4 --------- To the right of Kiku is a <kunai(1)>. Use the kunai to dispatch the guard in the tower so that he falls on top of the patrolling samurai. [Tip] When the patrolling samurai is at the left-hand side of the watchtower going right (which he is a couple of steps away from at the very start of the section), use your kunai (you may need to time it differently if you are much quicker or slower than I am). Go along the shadows to your right until you can turn left and fact the unlit torch and 2 standing guards facing each other. Walk up to them and double- hissatsu them to get <kunai(1)>. There is <kunai(1)> in the house with two open doors in the room to the left of the room with the cat. Go to the door of the building that houses the exit. Use a kunai to blow up the dynamite boxes and, in the confusion, use the bench to climb onto the rafters to hanging hissatsu the standing samurai when he calms down. Exit. Section 5 --------- Turn right and go to the opposite wall. When the patrolling samurai enters the nearest door to your left, wall-hug corner-look to dispatch him. There is <poison> in the building the samurai originally exited. Go back to the building you were facing from the start and wall-hug corner look the left side of the open door to dispatch 3 patrolling samurai at different intervals. One of them drops a <burning shuriken(1)>. Go upstairs to get *Mask Piece #18* in the room. Go back to the long path with the standing samurai near the exit. Use the burning shuriken to dispatch him and exit (make sure you take the poison with you). There is <kunai(1)> in the room left of the exit. Section 6 --------- Wall-hug corner-look the edge of the building to dispatch a standing guard when he turns. Blow out the candle and walk along the shadows. When the patrolling samurai goes to your right behind the building, go near the edge and wall-hug (do not corner-look) to dispatch him when he returns. Get the <silver key> that he drops. There is a <ninja veil> and <ninjato sword> in the building with two open doors. Unlock the locked door nearest the start of the section with the key and when the patrolling samurai is away from you, enter the room to your left and climb into the corner to dispatch him. There is <ghostmaker(1)> and <ninja veil> in this room. Go under the wooden walkway and into the bush. When the patrolling guard stops near the 2 standing samurai, use the ghostmaker on the guard to kill all three of them. Use the poison to dissolve the lock and exit. Boss Swordfight: Rinshi ----------------------- [T3J] Level 10: Punish Sekiya Naotada ******************************************************************************* You only need to bring a shinobi cat to get both mask pieces in section 7. I thought that previous levels would get me to break my 'No bringing items' into levels, even to S-Rank them, but this level takes the proverbial cake. I did finish the level without bringing items, but it required several sword fights, which I personally do not enjoy. I wound up S-Ranking this level by bringing in 4 ghostmakers and a shinobi cat (to get the map pieces). You can also bring in smoke bombs to make life easier. If anyone has any tips to dispatch the enemies without bringing in items or sword fighting, I would love to hear them. Section Progress Time Total Enemies ------- ------------- ------------- 1 4:34 4 2 9:08 9 3 13:42 15 4 18:17 20 5 22:51 26 6 27:25 31 7 32:00 35 Section 1 --------- Back up into the shadows and go right. When the patrolling guard comes toward you, turns, and walks away, walk towards him and hayate into the first bush. When the patrolling guard walks past the 2nd bush and stops, hayate to the next bush to perform an oni hayate on that guard and immediately start tapping the A button to triple-hissatsu the 3 standing guards. Get the <silver key> and, gulp, <ninjato sword>. Use the key to exit. Section 2 --------- Run around to your right and dispatch a patrolling guard in the house after he goes from right to left in front of the door (there is a <ninjato sword> in this room). Go right back out and run towards the patrolling guard (who should be walking towards his pals). When you start to get noticed, jump and constantly tap A to do a triple-hissatsu on the guards; however, there is one guard left over (at least) to sword fight. Exit. [Aside] I think there may be a way to running jump hissatsu the patrolling guard and land in a place to triple-hissatsu the remaining guards but that is just wishful thinking on my part. [Alternate] If you brought ghostmakers (or smoke bombs), use a ghostmaker on the patrolling guard when he gets close to his friends. For me, it took out him and one standing guard directly while the other two wandered into the flames when they were alerted (could be luck). If you want to use a smoke bomb, dispatch the patrolling guard away from his friends and use the smoke bomb to perform a triple-hissatsu. Section 3 --------- Blow out the 2nd candle and hide in the shadows on your left, walking to the edge. When the patrolling guard turns, blow out the candle and walk along the shadows, turn the corner of the well, walk past the edge of the well and face right. When both patrolling guards turn, walk up and double-hissatsu them. Go into the shadows of the next room (where a <ninjato sword> is) and wait for the standing guard to turn away. Dispatch him and go back to the burning bridge. Running jump on the bridge and hayate past until you are no longer burning (you may want to hayate off the right side into the water). Hide behind the wooden pillar near the lit candle on the bridge and wait for the patrolling guard in the main building to turn. Run up and wall-hug corner-look the door to dispatch him. Pick up his body and back away. Hopefully, at least one of the alerted guards will burn himself wandering around. Sword fight the next and exit. [Alternate] If you brought ghostmakers (or smoke bombs), use one on the two remaining guards to make life easier. Section 4 --------- Go forward and take out the standing rifleman. Hang on to the ledge of the stone entrance and shimmy to your right to take a standing rifleman out. Drop down and go to the right side. Climb up and run along the right edge, drop down and dispatch the standing rifleman in the room. Jump over the flames, get a <burning shuriken(1)> and jump back. Head up on the roof. Use the burning shuriken to dispatch the rifleman furthest away and when the rifleman closest to you is calm, running jump down to hissatsu him (like previous advice, do not wait to land, just tap A continuously in the air). Exit. Section 5 --------- Go right, up the wooden platform to climb onto the rafters (if the guard starts to notice you, hayate to get onto the rafters). Dispatch him from above (if you follow the rafters to the end, there is a <ninjato sword> on the ground) and go left, using the box to climb onto the rafters. Dispatch another standing guard and stay on the rafters until there is an edge. When a standing guard turns away, drop down and go around the flames to dispatch him. Walk forward and triple-hissatsu the 3 standing guards with their backs turned and exit. Section 6 --------- There is a <ninjato sword> in the 1st corridor. Stay near the right side of the wall by the burnt floor and use ninja vision. When you see a patrolling ninja turn, run up to dispatch him. Beyond a wall of flames is another patrolling ninja. Use your ninja vision, and when he turns from you, running jump over the wall of flames to dispatch him (you will likely catch on fire so make sure to hayate to extinguish the flames). Jump over the gap/flame twice and you can exit. There are 3 standing ninja in the room to your right. You can running jump over the flames to triple-hissatsu them (what likely happens, for me, is that I catch on fire to dispatch the first ninja and then hissatsu the other ones making sure to hayate to extinguish the flames). [Alternate] If you brought a ghostmaker, use it to dispatch the 3 ninja from the door near the exit. If you brought a smoke bomb, you could probably throw it in from their front to triple-hissatsu them, timing it so the patrolling ninja does not notice (which saves you from that risky maneuver). Section 7 --------- If you brought the shinobi cat, you can use it now to go through a hole in the wall to your left and then through another hole in the wall on the left near 2 standing samurai to get *Mask Piece #19* and <ghostmaker(1)>. Go forward to the 2nd wooden platform and use that to climb onto the rafters and to the other side. If you brought the cat, you should have a ghostmaker to blow up the breakable wall and get *Mask Piece #20* and <hayate pill>. You can go up into the ceiling and drop down to sword fight Sekiya (do not try hiding or a samurai might find you first and you have to sword fight multiple enemies). If you brought ghostmakers, use one on the standing samurai in the room and be ready to throw another one into the next room to hopefully take out both samurai and Sekiya (I did this my 2nd playthrough when I brought items but before I got the 2nd map piece...sigh). [Tip] When you first get on the 2nd wooden platform, you can throw a ghostmaker through the hole in the wall to dispatch the standing samurai. Also, when you release the cat from your mind control, release him into the fire in the corner of the room with 2 samurai to hope that they burn themselves wandering around like fools. If you are like me and did not bring any items, good luck with your sword fights. Try to alert the samurais and get them to move around, hoping that they will burn themselves while wandering. The Sekiya and Onikage sword fights were the first time I noticed the hissatsu prompt when their health is nearly exhausted.
