~~~~II. Introduction~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~{200}~~~
=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=
This FAQ will be guiding you through finding all of the Energy Cells in Metroid
Prime 3: Corruption. Energy Cells are the collection quest of this game,
similar to Artifacts in Metroid Prime 1, and Keys in Metroid Prime 2: Echoes.
I decided to write this FAQ due to the fact that every single day I see dozens
and dozens of topics asking where to find the energy cells. There are 9 energy
cells in total, and you need 5 in order to complete the game. There is a glitch
to finish the game with only 3 cells, which I will include in a later revision
of this guide.
Location -  Docking Bay 5: G.F.S Valhalla
Required Items - None, you just need access to the G.F.S. Valhalla.
Nearest Landing Point - G.F.S Valhalla
~~Logbook Data~~
Energy Cell ID: V8-34910-1
Previous Coordinates: DIA-DOC, G.F.S. Valhalla
Hint: Data indicates Energy Cell has lost connection from docking control
mechanism.
Detailed Explanation: This is the easiest of all the Energy Cells. When you
first gain access to the G.F.S. Valhalla. Just cross the bridge from where you
land, and look to your right. You should see something glowing under the
rubble. Yup, that's it. Just walk over to it and pick it up.
Now that wasn't too hard now was it?
Hint: Data indicates Energy Cell is connected to HANGER security system.
Detailed Explanation: This Energy Cell is located in the room which you get the
first upgrade for your ship. Go through the vents that you will see in the mid
section of the room. After you exit the short morph ball maze, it should be
right in front of you.
-----------------------------<X>-C. Energy Cell 3-<X>------------------{EC3}---
_______________________________________________________________________________
Location - Generator B, Norion
Required Items - Plasma Beam, Seeker Missiles
Nearest Landing Point - Docking Hub Alpha
~~Logbook Data~~
Energy Cell ID: WI-78231-3
Previous Coordinates: 04F-GEA, Norion
Hint: Data indicates Energy Cell is connected to manual GENERATOR override.
Detailed Explanation: From the landing point, make your way down the long
hallways, taking any elevator you come by, until you reach "Cargo Hub" Right as
you enter the room, turn right, you should see a circuit board you can weld.
After doing so, the door beside the board will open. Continue down this newly
opened path until you reach the Generator B. When you enter this room, you will
have to fight a Metroid Hatcher. I'm not going to explain how to defeat it here
so you should take a look over at the Boss FAQ if you need instructions. But if
you really need help, and you have the X-ray Visor, and the Nova Beam, you can
use the X-Ray visor to see its weakpoint, and kill it in one hit.
After the Hatcher is destroyed, a Morphball tunnel will open up near the
entrance of the room. Turn into Morphball and continue along this tunnel. Once
you reach the end, you will be in a small room with the Energy Cell, which you
can now claim.
_______________________________________________________________________________
-----------------------------<X>-D. Energy Cell 4-<X>------------------{EC4}---
_______________________________________________________________________________
Location - Hidden Court, Bryyo.
Required Items - Ship Grapple, Boost Ball
Nearest Landing Point - Federation Outpost
~~Logbook Data~~
Energy Cell ID: D5-5410L-4
Previous Coordinates: 048-GEL, Bryyo
Hint: Data indicates Energy Cell is connected to HIDDEN Fuel Gel pumping
station.
Detailed Explanation: This is the Energy Cell that a majority of people have
alot of trouble with, as it is definitely the hardest puzzle to figure out in
this game. First land at the spot where you got your first ship upgrade. From
there you want to head to the Fuel Gel Pool, which should be on your map. When
you arrive here, switch to your command visor, and pick up the large golem head
which you will be needing soon. Now head back through the Landing Bay, past the
Hall of Golems, and to the Colossus Vista. Now switch to your command visor
again and drop the head onto that statue in the background. The statue will now
come alive and break two things in the room. One, is a cage surrounding a ship
missile, and the second is a pile of rubble guarding a door. Head through this
newly opened door into the Machine works and use the Boost Ball slot in this
room. Doing this will turn the grating surrounding you around, and extending a
bridge. But the bridge only gets extended half way, so you'll need to get to
the other side some how. (Note: There's an Energy Tank in this room, which you
can use your Screw Attack to grab). Leave this room via the Morph Ball hole
behind you and head back to the Landing Bay, board your ship, and head to the
Thorn Jungle Airdock.
From the Airdock, head to the North Jungle Court, which should be on your map
because you have already been there earlier. This is the same room where you
once had to destroy an Anti-Air turret and grapple the three levers (Don't
remind me). In this room, climb up to the alcove level and look for a structure
sticking out of one of them. Scanning it indicates it to being a sort of
generator. Switch to your Command Visor and pick it up with the ship grapple.
Lifting it reveals a hole which you can travel through with MorphBall, which
leads you back to the other side of the Machine Works. Now that you are on the
other side, use your boost ball to finally complete the bridge, allowing travel
between the two areas. Walk over the bridge, and through the small hole on the
other side. Next, travel to the Hidden Court and climb up so you can get a good
view of this room. Using your Command Visor, you should spot a place to drop
the generator. Doing so reveals the Energy Cell, which you can obtain by going
up the Half Pipe, and jumping across to where the Energy Cell is.
Good Job!
Credit goes to Ocelot51 for helping me out with this portion of the guide, by
giving me the instructions on how to obtain this.
-----------------------------<X>-E. Energy Cell 5-<X>------------------{EC5}---
_______________________________________________________________________________
Location - Xenoresearch Lab, Skytown
Required Items - Boost Ball
Nearest Landing Point - Landing Site A
~~Logbook Data~~
Energy Cell ID: GC-9713n-5
Previous Coordinates: 135-MET, Skytown
Hint: Data indicates Energy Cell is connected to RESEARCH sample.
Detailed Explanation: This is one of the few required Energy Cells. At one
point in Ellysia, you will be in a long hallway, with Phazon Metroids guarded
by energy shields. Make your way all the way down this hallway, and going up
the elevators, until you find the Seeker Missiles, turn to the left and there
should be something you can grapple. Grapple this to remove the covering and
claim the Energy Cell... But don't forget that this turns off the energy
shields in the area, if you know what I mean.
_______________________________________________________________________________
-----------------------------<X>-F. Energy Cell 6-<X>------------------{EC6}---
_______________________________________________________________________________
Location - Command Courtyard, Pirate Command
Required Items - None?
Nearest Landing Point - Command Center
~~Logbook Data~~
Energy Cell ID: NE-12025-6
Previous Coordinates: 02P-CRY, Pirate Homeworld
Hint: Data indicates Energy Cell is connected to Central COMMAND exhaust system
Detailed Explanation: This Cell is required to move on. If you don't have this
cell just continue on with the story until you obtain it.
I currently need to replay the game before I can give you a full explanation on
where to find this, but it is in the same room that you get the message to find
something to protect you from acid rain. If my memory serves me right, you need
to deactivate a fan in the room, and to do so, you have to jump up to the
nearby jump ledge, and go through a Morph Ball tunnel.
_______________________________________________________________________________
-----------------------------<X>-G. Energy Cell 7-<X>------------------{EC7}---
_______________________________________________________________________________
Location - Metroid Processing, Pirate Homeworld
Required Items - Plasma Beam, X-ray Visor
Nearest Landing Point - Research Facility
~~Logbook Data~~
Energy Cell ID: 5n-38715-7
Previous Coordinates: 04P-MET, Pirate Homeworld
Hint: Data indicates Energy Cell is connected to PROCESSING containment core.
Detailed Explanation: This cell is located in the Metroid Processing room. If
you aren't sure which room that is, it's the room with a bunch of Phazon
Metroids in cells, one of which containing a missile expansion. There is an
elevator in this room, which you must take down to the lower level, where you
will be confronted with a split path. To the right, is a Circuit Board which
you most likely already welded, and to the left, there's an Energy Cell. This
is pretty hard to miss on a normal playthrough, seeing as you are required to
weld the nearby circuit board.
_______________________________________________________________________________
-----------------------------<X>-H. Energy Cell 8-<X>------------------{EC8}---
_______________________________________________________________________________
Location - Ballista Storage, Ellysia
Required Items - Grapple Voltage
Nearest Landing Point - Landing Site A
~~Logbook Data~~
Energy Cell ID: 68-4913A-8
Previous Coordinates: 075-MEC, SkyTown
Hint: Data indicates Energy Cell is connected to STORAGE facility cooling
system.
Detailed Explanation: Energy Cell 8 is located in the room where you before got
the Boost Ball and fought the Defense Drone. If you make your way back to that
area you will notice two fans that you can grapple. Use your Grapple Voltage to
overload them with energy. After both the fans are overloaded, the room with
the energy cell will open.
_______________________________________________________________________________
-----------------------------<X>-I. Energy Cell 9-<X>------------------{EC9}---
_______________________________________________________________________________
Location - Phazon Quarry, Pirate Homeworld
Required Items - Nova Beam, X-ray Visor.
Nearest Landing Point - Mining site
~~Logbook Data~~
Energy Cell ID: 68-6187C-9
Previous Coordinates: 089-MIN, Pirate Homeworld
Hint: Data indcicates Energy Cell is connected to QUARRY personnel access
station.
Detailed Explanation: Before you attempt to obtain this Energy Cell, you need
to head to the "Main Cavern". Once you have reached the Main Cavern, take the
upper west door, which will take the to Drill Shaft 2. Continue through this
room until you reach a Phazite plating. Once you reach the Phazite, switch to
your X-Ray Visor, and fire at the red glowing spot. This will cause a the large
drill in the middle of the room to create a hole in the ground. Drop down this
hole and head down the path. As soon as you exit Drill Shaft 2 turn left, the
Energy Cell should be directly in front of you.
~~~~IV. The Energy Cell Glitch~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~{400}~~~
=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=

Earlier in the FAQ I said something about using a glitch to finish the game
with 3 energy cells, instead of the usual 5, and I bet you're wondering how to
do it. This is a trick that will greatly help anyone who is doing a speed run
of this game. It's especially useful, because speedrunners can get the 2
mandatory energy cells, and then just grab the one in the first room on the
Vallhalla. I'm not going to be going in depth until later on.

Before going on, you'll need to at least have the Nova Beam.

After landing in the Valhalla, walk across the bridge and pick up the Energy
Cell under the rubble to your right. Head to the main gate and use this Cell on
the console beside the gate, this will cause the hand scanner to activate
allowing you to open the door. Keep going through the rooms until you reach a
room with a bunch of Minitroids and Phazon Metroids, the door you want to take
in here is at the top, so hop up all the platforms, killing the Phazon Metroids
on the way. In the next room, you'll find a split path, take a left here and
continue down to the corridor and open the door. In this room is an elevator,
which you need to use your second Energy Cell to power up before use. Put one
Energy Cell into the console in this room, and go up the elevator.

After the elevator reaches the top, go through the door ahead of you. The next
room is a short tunnel, which is blocked by rubble, there is a small opening
just large enough for your morph ball to fit through at the bottom right. Right
when you enter the next room, turn right. There should be a door that's not
active. Use your third Energy Cell here and continue through these rooms until
you reach the Aurora Chamber.

In this room, you'll notice two Energy Cell consoles. These are the ones in
which we will be skipping. So what you need to do is walk up the first bridge
in this room. Once you reach the top of this room, turn around and look up,
you should see a platform, with a bridge raised up. That's our target. To get
up there, you need to jump slightly to the left, and screw attack into the
bridge. If done correctly, you will fall down and respawn up on that ledge.
Congratulations, you just skipped two energy cells.

Remember, this takes practice, and you wont necessarily get it on your first
try.

~~~~V. Frequently Asked Questions~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~{500}~~~
=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=
Q: I'm having trouble finding (Insert Energy Cell here)
A: If you're having trouble with any energy cell, my guide will guide you
through it. If you still cant get it, email me with details and I'll see what I
can do.
Q: How many Energy Cells do you need to finish this game?
A: You only need 5 energy cells to gain access to the final area, and 3 if you
use a glitch. Though if you intend on getting 100 percent you will need all 9.
Q: How do you finish the game with only 3 Cells?
A: I'll be including this in my next revision. =]
Q: I'm missing 2 powerups, and I can't find them anywhere! I did the thing in
Ellysia, so I have them all on my map. But theres no white dots anywhere!
A: You are most likely missing the two Power Ups in Bryyo Ice, There is a ship
missile expansion and an Energy tank, and this area also doesnt show up on your
map unless you're there.
Also, if you have already gotten the ones in Bryyo Ice check the G.F.S.
Valhalla. There are 2 Missiles, 1 Ship Missile, and 1 Energy Tank.
Most of them are fairly obvious (Usually all are obtained after using an energy
cell. But one of them is quite easy to miss. At one point, you'll need to use
an Energy Cell to charge an elevator. Once you reach the top of this elevator,
turn around. There should be a spot where you can hop into with morphball.
Follow this tunnel, and it will lead you to a missile expansion.
Thanks to Matthew Sarker for reminding me about the expansions on the Valhalla.
Q: I'm looking for Energy Cell 4 and I can't find the Fuel Gel Pool! Where is
it?
A: Well, I'm not exactly positive on the location but I know it's nearby where
you first got your ship upgraded. Sorry for not being of much help with this.
Just look closer on your map.
Q: Will you marry me?
A: I'm sorry to say this but no. You can not possibly love me because I'm just
a guy who's writing guides. Thanks for the offer though.
Well... I hope you found my guide helpful, and I strongly hope that this stops
the massive amount of comments due to finding these Energy Cells. This is my
first guide, and I hope you enjoyed reading it, and that it made your time with
Metroid Prime 3: Corruption a much more enjoyable experience. Because trust me
a few of these are pretty frustrating.
