Up to throw ahead, down to place behind If you or another person runs into one, they will spin out Green shells Position-1st to 3rd Press up to throw it ahead, and down to send it spinning behind. Hold right to hold behind If you or another person gets hit by one, they will flip Green shells will go straight forward, and ricochet off of any walls it hits. After a little while, it will break after hitting a wall if it hasn't hit anything else If you have triple green shells, press any button on the control pad to have them form a protective rotating circle around you Red shells Position-2nd to 8th, and rare in 1st Press up to throw ahead, down to throw behind, and hold right to hold behind If you or another person gets hit by one, they will flip Red shells will go forward and home in on the person ahead of you. It will, however, break upon first intact with a wall. If thrown behind, it will go straight, and break upon the first wall it hits Triple red shells will once again, provide you with a shell shield until you decide to use them Bob-omb Position-4th to 8th Press up to throw ahead, down to place behind. And though it's a bad idea, hold right to hold behind If you or another person is hit by the blast, they will either flip or spin out After a few seconds (or after someone hits one), it will explode, affecting everybody in the blast radius Blue shell Position-4th to 8th Press up to throw it ahead of you (no other controls) If you or another person is hit by the blast, they will flip Blue shells automatically home in on the driver in first place, and affect everyone in the blast radius If you get a blue shell, and boost into first, do not use it! If you do, it will blow YOU up Fake item block Position-1st to 3rd Up to throw ahead, down to place behind, and hold right to hold behind If you or another person runs into one they will flip Fakes are decieving, but you should know where things are. Best place to put one is right where a real block is, or in a narrow part of the track Mushrooms Position-2nd to 8th Press any button on the control pad to use Mushrooms are extremely usefull. They help you steal balloons and coins in battle, and help you to take shortcuts while racing. Shortcuts will be reviewed in the courses section Golden mushroom Position-6th to 12th Press any button on the control pad to use When you get this guy, press any button on the control pad repeatedly to keep getting speed bursts for a short time Bullet bill Position-6th to 12th Press any button on the control pad to use Use this bullet to speed down the track in autopilot, making you immune to anything that may try to harm you. It will knock away any car in your way Blooper Position-3rd to 8th Press any button on the control pad to use Will go to every car up ahead of you and sprays ink on them, reducing their visibility, thus making them go slower Lightning Position-6th to 12th Press any button on the control pad to use Zaps every car ahead of you, causing them to spin out, drop all their items, turn small, and move slower for a while Star Position-6th to 12th Press any button on the control pad to use A star is very valuable, as it makes you invincible, and all opponents will flip and drop their items if you hit them Mega mushroom Position-4th to 8th Press any button on the control pad to use This item will make you HUGE, squashing every car in your way and causing them to drop all of their items POW block Position-4th to 8th Press any button on the control pad to use If you use this, a POW block will appear and start to explode. When it does, everyone ahead of you will spin out, making it easier to pass them Thundercloud Position-4th to 8th No buttons will be used, as it appears automatically If this appears, panic! If you can, pass it on to someone else by hitting them. Try to delay a bit though, as it makes you go slightly faster. Once it's done warning you, it will electrocute you, having the same affects as lightning ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 6.Game Modes Grand prix-Here you will go into what is basically the main game. There will be 3 classes that you start with, and you will eventually unlock a 4th. You have to go to these classes and beat cups, and beat all of them to unlock something! Time trial-Here you can go to seperate tracks that you've unlocked, and try to get the best time in the world. You can also race Nintendo ghosts to sometimes unlock a special item! VS-Here you can race in the normal way, without having the pressure of needing to win. Here you can do whatever you want. You can also change setting such as opponent difficulty, class, and wether you race alone, or on teams! Battle-In battle, there are two choices: Balloon battle and Coin runners. They will be explained better later on, but basically, you attack your opponents on battle courses, and try to get as many balloons/coins as possible! ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 7.Courses These are all the courses in the game. The courses are those that apply to races, not battles. The battle courses are in the battle section of the walkthrough. There are 2 types of courses. Retro and new. Retro courses are tracks from previous mario kart titles for different platforms, so you may see a course you've seen before. New courses are courses that you can't find in any other game, and is only on the wii. There are 3 race classes. 50cc,100cc, and 150cc. 500cc is the slowest and easiest, and ou can only use kartsNow, here is the list of every track. More info is added later MUSHROOM CUP Luigi Circuit Moomoo Meadows Mushroom Gorge Toad's factory SHELL CUP GCN Peach Beach DS Yoshi Falls SNES Ghost Valley 2 N64 Mario Raceway FLOWER CUP Mario Circuit Coconut Mall DK Summit Wario's Gold Mine BANANA CUP N64 Sherbert Land GBA Shy Guy Beach DS Delfino square GCN Waluigi Stadium STAR CUP Daisy Circuit Koopa Cape Maple Treeway Grumble Volcano LEAF CUP DS Desert Hills GBA Bowser's castle 3 N64 DK's jungle parkway GCN Mario Circuit SPECIAL CUP Dry Dry Ruins Moonview Highway Bowser's Castle Rainbow Road LIGHTNING CUP SNES Mario Circuit 3 DS Peach Gardens GCN DK Mountain N64 Bowser's Castle ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 8.Characters These are all the default characters that you start with when you begin a game. More characters can be unlocked and will be mentioned in the unlockables section in this guide. There are 4 weight classes: Light, Medium, Heavy, and All around. All around sizes are unlockable and will be mentioned in the unlockables section. Your characters weight class also determines what karts and bikes you can choose from LIGHT Baby Mario Baby Peach Toad Koopa Troopa MEDIUM Mario Luigi Yoshi Peach HEAVY Wario Waluigi Donkey Kong Bowser ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 9.Vehicles Every character has 3 karts to choose from in the beginning. There are karts for each weight, not each character. I learned this the hard way by doing everything with Mini Mario, but I eventually restarted my file. There are 2 types of vehicles and 3 sizes. There are Karts and Bikes, and they come in large, medium, and small. This is a list of all the default vehicles. and the others are in the unlockables section. Stats on each vehicle are coming in future updates SMALL KARTS Standard Kart S Booster Seat Mini Beast MEDIUM KARTS Standard Kart M Classic Dragster Wild Wing LARGE KARTS Standard Kart L Offroader Flame Flyer SMALL BIKES Standard Bike S Bullet Bike Bit Bike MEDIUM BIKES Standard Bike M Mach Bike Sugarscoot LARGE BIKES Standard Bike L Flame Runner Wario Bike ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 10.Skills Skills can help you a lot in this game. Skills vary from doing tricks to drifting and snaking. Wether you're on time trial to beat a ghost, or in a grand prix, trying to get ahead of the pack, these are the most esential skills you will need while driving. Some skills also play a large role in your ranking during a grand prix, as does your position Boost Start When the countdown for the race starts, Wait till the 2 is in the middle of the sequence, and hold 2 on the remote. If you do it too early, you wiil spin out with black smoke, and start very slowly. Drifting To do this trick you need to switch to manual. As you go around a corner, hold B, and you will be able to control your drift, also allowing you to get mini turbos, and super mini turbos (karts only). You will know you have a mini turbo when you have blue flames while drifting. A super mini turbo is when when you have orange flames while drifting. If you have a kart, you will have to hold a drift longer than usual to get a super mini turbo. Snaking Snaking is a very advanced move that includes drifting. When you are on a straight strip of track, you drift from left to right on the course, in a snakelike fashion. My best is about 3 before I either mess up or come to a corner. Shortcuts Shortcuts are available on every course. However, some require a mushroom, while others don't. Some of these shortcuts are very tough to do, and some require a certain type of car (kart or bike). Shortcuts are available in the walkthrough section. POW immunity Yeah, it sounds impossible, but it's not that hard to do. There are 2 ways to do this. One is to be in the air when the POW block hits. Sinc it shakes the ground like an earthquake, it won`t have any effect on you. The other way is to shake the remote right before it hits, and keep shaking till it's gone. This produces a shockwave that protects you from being affected, but you will still drop all your items. Fall recovery When you fall of a cliff, or something like that, lakito will drag you back onto the course. To recover faster, press 2 at the same time as your car hits the ground and you will get a boost of speed. It takes a bit of practice, and I guarantee that it won't happen 100% of the time. Tricks When you do a trick, you will jump higher, and get a boost of speed when you land. To do a trick, Shake the remote at the same time as you come off a jump. Wheelies A wheelie can only be prformed when you are riding a bike. To do a wheelie, all you have to do is lift up the remote while driving. A wheelie will go away if you hit an obstacle, do a large jump, do a trick, or after a certain amount of time. Wheelies will make you go slightly faster than usual. Getting rid of blooper ink To get rid of unwanted blooper ink, you can do one of two things. Either use a mushroom, or run over a booster. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 11.Walkthrough Ok, this is the part we've been waiting for. So far, I only have info on half the courses, but the other half will come in the future. The close future, mind you. I will first have info on grand prix and time trial, and VS and Battle info are in their respective section. Dangers are things that can stop you and slow you down. Secret items are items that are hidden from view, and recommendations are wether it's bikes or karts I recommend for the course. So, here we go. Grand prix First of all, there are three race classes for grand prix. 50cc, 100cc, and 150cc (I think I already said that). 50cc is the slowest class. The computer is also easy here. It also has rules that only karts are allowed here (or are they? Unlockables will have more). 100cc is medium speed, and the computer is of medium difficulty. You can only use bikes. In 150cc, There are fast speed, sort of hard opponents, and you can use karts and bikes. In grand prix, you should be mostly aware of dangers and hidden things. Time Trial In time trial, you have three mushrooms and no item blocks, and you have to complete the track as quickly as possible. This is the place to see your worldwide and regional rankings, try to beat staff ghosts and other ghosts, and practice different skills and shortcuts for each track. Here, what should come to your main attention is shortcuts and recommendations. Staff ghost info will be provided in a future update --MUSHROOM CUP-- LUIGI CIRCUIT Dangers-0 Hidden things-0 Shortcuts-3 Recommendations-bike Dangers-There are no dangers in this course Hidden things-Nothing is hidden in this course Shortcuts-The 2 shortcuts are as follows. When you come off the U-turn there will be a ramp on your left. Use a mushroom to get across the grass and get to it. The second one is when you come after the ramp, at the U-turn with boosters. Hit the first one, and then take a sharp right. Use your mushroom to get across the grass, and avoid the pipes along the way MOOMOO MEADOWS Dangers-2 Hidden things-0 Shortcuts-2 Recommendations-bike Dangers-The dangers here are the cows that occasionally cross the course at the part where the course is really winding. There are also the walls that come close to the edge of the track Hidden things-Nothing is hidden in this course Shortcuts-The shortcuts are as follows. The first 2 are where the track winds through the fields. Just use a mushroom to cross over the grass where it juts out. The 3rd one is at the boost ramp, where you can use a mushroom to boost over the grassy mounds MUSHROOM GORGE Dangers-2 Hidden things-0 Shortcuts-3 Recommendations-kart Dangers-In this course, you can fall off cliffs really easily, and there are goombas on the last stretch that you can spin out on Hidden things-Nothing is hidden in this course Shortcuts-The first shortcut is really unnoticable. When you start, go straight and a tiny bit to the left. Use a mushroom and you will come out of the bushes and land on a red mushroom that will bounce you to another, and back onto the course. On the second set of mushrooms, take the side road on the left and it will take you to a set of boosters. Then, on the last U-turn, take a sharp left and use a mushroom to boost through the grass TOAD'S FACTORY Dangers-2 Hidden things-1 Shortcuts-2 Recommendations-kart Dangers-Here, you can run into mud near the end, and fall into water Hidden things-After the crushing machines, you will come to a strip of conveyor belts. If you hit one of the crates that are on them, they will blast out 1 of 3 items and really slow you down. The crates contain either nothing, a banana peel, or a mushroom Shortcuts-The 2 shortcuts are both near the end. when you come out of the second building, at the booster and the humps, do a trick, start a drift, and use a mushroom to jump the pond. However this is a very advanced shortcut, and I've only done it 2 or 3 times. The next one is at the mud, where you use a mushroom to speed across it and hit the second and third bosters --SHELL CUP-- GCN PEACH BEACH Dangers-3 Hidden things-0 Shortcuts-2 Recommendations-bike Dangers-Believe it or not, one of the dangers here are palm trees. The other 2 are the water that you may drown in if you go too far, and the little creatures that cross the beach and chase you if you come too close. What they do to you is flip you into the air, and doing the same thing to themselves Hidden things-Nothing is hidden in this course Shortcuts-The first shortcut is when you go on the first corner. Go off to the left a bit and go around the big blocks that look like toys. You should see a booster you can go on and use it to fly to a little island with a palm tree, and go through a big puddle to get back on the beach. For the second one, you have to skip the first one and go onto the beach. Make sure you have good offroading and go through tha water and use a mushroom to go on the inside of the corner DS YOSHI FALLS Dangers-2 Hidden things-0 Shortcuts-2 Recommendations-bike Dangers-The dangers on this course are running into walls and falling into the water Hidden things-Nothing is hidden in this course Shortcuts-Both shortcuts are at the first 2 bridges. On the first bridge, go into the water and drive through it as fast as possible, without falling in. On the second one, do the same thing, but you'll have to use a mushroom. The third bridge is not a shortcut because it's the same each way, since there are boosters on the outside SNES GHOST VALLEY 2 Dangers-2 Hidden things-0 Shortcuts-1 Recommendations-kart Dangers-the dangers here are running into walls that will fall down and slow you. Included with this is the danger of falling off cliffs into nothing Hidden things-Nothing is hidden in this course Shortcuts-For the first shortcut, take the first right and then the left, but don't take the next left. Stay to the right a bit. and you should see an opening with a ramp. Start a drift, do a trick off the ramp, and finish with a super mini turbo. The other one is just around the corner on the inside, where you can hit a booster and go off a small jump N64 MARIO RACEWAY Dangers-1 Hidden things-0 Shortcuts-4 Recommendations-kart Dangers-The only danger here is running into piranha plants on the side of the track Hidden things-Nothing is hidden in this course Shortcuts-The first short cut is after the first 2 where you see the giant mushroom. Drift to the right before it and use a mushroom. When you get to the grass on the other side of the road, you should have a super mini turbo, so use it to get to the ramp. The other 2 shortcuts come right after, so use a mushroom to take an early right, through the grass, and use another mushroom to boost across the sand on the other side. After the pipe, take an early right, through the grass while using a mushroom --FLOWER CUP-- MARIO CIRCUIT Dangers-2 Hidden things-0 Shortcuts-4 Recommendatins-bike Dangers-The 2 dangers on this track are the goombas scattered across the course, and the giant chain chomp Hidden things-Nothing is hidden in this course Shortcuts-The first shortcut is at the chain chomp. Instead of taking the left before the long right, go straight, and use a mushroom to get to the jump. After the tunnel, take an early left and use a mushroom through the grass, and do the same thing at the end of the short straight COCONUT MALL Dangers-2 Hidden things-0 Shortcuts-4 Recommendations-kart Dangers-The only dangers here are walls, and the cars on the last stretch Hidden things-Nothing is hidden in this course Shortcuts-There are a few small things I quallified as shortcuts, being the ability to jump up the edges of escalators and doing a trick. The first real shortcut is after the first escalator, where you can stay inside, go through a shop while using a mushroom, and coming back on the course off a jump. If you don't have a mushroom, go arond, cut short of the down escalator, and do a trick off of the jump. The last one is after a small spot with palm trees, where you can use the booster and drift into the path on the right, giving you a bit of a boost ahead DK SUMMIT Dangers-3 Hidden things-0 Shortcuts-3 Recommendations-kart Dangers-The dangers on this snow course are getting hit by snowboarding shy guys near the end, running into snow drifts, and falling off cliffs Hidden things-Nothing is hidden in this course Shortcuts-After the cannon, the sharp turn, and the first jump, you can use a mushroom to boost through the snow drift on your left. After the moguls, you can go to your right and use a mushroom to fly over the gap. And finally, after that, you can boost through the snowdrifts near the shy guys by using a mushroom WARIO'S GOLD MINE Dangers-3 Hidden things-0 Shortcuts-4 Recommendations-bike Dangers-Dangers are running into bats in the first cave, falling off cliffs, and getting hit by mine karts full of gold Hidden things-Nothing is hidden in this course Shortcuts-After the first dip and rise, take the left, and then take a sharp right, and do a trick off the ramp, and over the gap. Then, in the cave with the mine karts, follow them, and they should lead you to a small cave where you will see a bunch of boosters. The other two shortcuts are at the first dip and rise, and the dip and rise in the cave, where the first boosters are. You take the turn early, and boost to the lower part of it. However, this is a very tough shortcut, and you should practice it before trying it --BANANA CUP-- N64 SHERBERT LAND Dangers-3 Hidden things-0 Shortcuts-1.5 Recommendations-kart Dangers-Ok, here the dangers are running into penguins that will spin you out, falling off the edge, and into the water, and hitting ice columns in the cave Hidden thing-Nothing is hidden in this course Shortcuts-There are a few short cuts. There are a bunch of shortcuts I qualified as only half. The half shortcuts are the little cracks that make gaps you can hop over. The other one is before the cave, where you can go between the glacier on your right, and the rock on your left, to get to a booster ramp GBA SHY GUY BEACH Dangers-4 Hidden things-0 Shortcuts-3 Recommendations-bike Dangers-Here, you can drown, run into crabs, hit umbrellas, and be blown to bits (not litteraly) by explosives Hidden things-Nothing is hidden in this course Shortcuts-The shortcuts here are pretty simple. At the islands, you can take a left, and boost to an island, and then go back to the mainland. You can go left before the last two grass spots, and go around the first one while staying on the sand. You can also boost over the last grass spot DS DELFINO SQUARE Dangers-2 Hidden things-1 Shortcuts-3 Recommendations-kart Dangers-On this course, you can fall into water, and run into the closely pressed in walls Hidden things-After the U-turn, before the draw bridge, you can hit the crates to knock out either a banana peel, a mushroom, or nothing Shortcuts-The first of the 2 is at the spot after the road fork. When you come out, take a left, and boost through the grass, and off the ramp to hpefully land on the dock. The other one will require you to skip the first one. Take the left, and if you look closely, you will see a side road on your left. Drift into it, and use a mushroom to boost through the mud. Then drift out of it and go on the drawbridge. Lastly, after the drawbridge, instead of taking the course around the grass, take a trip through it by using a mushroom GCN WALUIGI STADIUM Dangers-4 Hidden things-0 Shortcuts-2 Recommendations-kart Dangers-In this little racing stadium, you can run into walls, slow down in mud, hit giant metal piranha plants, and fall out of bounds if you go too slow on a jump Hidden things-Nothing is hidden in this course Shortcuts-The first shortcut is after the second jump, where you take an early left, and boost through the mud. Then, after the piranha plants and humps, you don't take such a sharp right turn, and use another mushroom through that mud ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 12.Unlockables Alright, so far there are only a few things, but there will be a lot more stuff in future updates. To unlock expert staff ghosts, all you have to do is beat the original one. Sometimes however, you have to beat more than one (sherbert land ghost) -GRAND PRIX- Star Cup Come in first in the Flower Cup Leaf Cup Come in first in the Banana Cup Special Cup Come in first in the Star Cup Lightning Cup Come in first in the Leaf Cup Karts and Bikes in 50cc Come in first in the 50cc Special Cup -VEHICLES- KARTS SMALL KARTS Cheep Charger Get a 1 star ranking in all retro 50cc cups Tiny Titan Unlock 1 expert staff ghost MEDIUM KARTS Super Blooper Come in first in the Leaf Cup on 50cc LARGE KARTS Piranha Prowler Come in first in the Special Cup on 50cc -CHARACTERS- King Boo Come first in the Star Cup on 50cc Diddy Kong Come in first in the Lightning Cup on 50cc Baby Daisy Get a 1 star ranking in all wii cups Funky kong Unlock 4 expert staff ghosts Rosalina The only way I know of is to make a save file in Mario Galaxy, and then go on 50 races in Mario Kart ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Alright, that's all for now!
