After you free the four monkeys (first at entrance; second atop the pillar; third in the Tile Worm room; fourth in room with the giant Deku Baba), head to the bridge that was cut by the baboon.
The monkeys will then help you cross the bridge (just jump towards the first monkey and press A to swing across).

You get the boomerang after you defeat the mini-boss in the forest temple (the angry monkey).

After you cross the bridge, you'll battle the baboon. When he throws the boomerang at you, dodge it then run into the pole he's standing on. Swipe at him then repeat the process twice more.
