What does your skylander needs to rest please take off from the portal of power mean and how long do they have to rest for before you can put them on the portal again my son is going mad as most of his figures have been rested and are not being accepted once place back on the portal thanks

The characters need to rest instead of saying they have died. The only way to start using that character again is to either restart the chapter or to beat the chapter with other characters, and then in the next chapter you can start using all of the characters again.
You need to beat the level (chapter) you are on for your skylander to come back to life. I know that it is frustrating but that is why you need to buy them all! :D
I only have 4 skylanders and it makes me so mad when all of them have to rest
We got the eternal magic source and saved the game when going back in the weapons master is not awake anymore even tho the game continously tells you to talk to him - how do you wake him back up? We even tried obtaining the magic source again and didn't wake him.
If ALL of your son's skylander's are dead or defeated he has to restart the chapter for me I only use four character's for the game I had gill grunt, trigger happy, spyro, and hex and I beat the game and I beat it in like four day's hex is not good but she's not bad either I recommend those four character's for him I did help but I didn't but ya that is how to go is withe those four people.!.!.!
I thought I was until the end of the level. But my chop chop died, then later came back in the same level, same with my spyro.
Wait until you beat the level, or just reset the chapter.
A way to stop that from happening is building a large collection of skylanders.
when your skylanders die just finish the chapter or restart the chapter. That all there is to it
You can wait for a checkpoint then exit and go back. All your dead skylanders will have full health again.

That is because they have to use the word "rest" because it is a kid game you can heal it before it "rests" by eating food or if it a life element it might have the upgrade were it can heal it's self but get away from the enemy's so you don't get hit.
I don't know how long it takes for a sky lander to rest but I know if you wait long enough while you're using other sky landers in the level they will be "rested"
