Hi guys, I'm not that far into the game, I've got to destroy two ships using one of their big guns, I can't seem to hit them, is there a specific place on the ship I need to hit, please help

There is not a specific place you need to hit the ship, you just have to hit it. Try using a classic mortar tactic in which you maneuver the gun HORIZONTALLY until you are pointing at the ship. Then, fire your gun. If the shell lands too far from or too close to the ship, adjust the gun VERTICALLY as necessary.

You can see a splash in the water if it isnt far enough. If you do adjust it so that it shoots a little farther.
