In this game, Rome, in my opinion, is the best nation. For Rome, the praetorian is basically the best fighting unit, but it has one weakness; they are very slow going. Going to reinforce another one of your armies can be difficult. One of their best features is their spike damage. This is extremely useful against viking lords, heros, elephants, and any other unit that has powerful attack. Praetorians are already powerful, and at high levels are almost unbeatable. One more strategy is sending in cavalry to break enemy ranks for the main attack.
You should always try and get an army of 50 people. All the time I've played I found that you stand a much better chance in battle if you have 50 people watching your back when you attack someone.
It's also good to upgrade your 50 people to about level ten using your stronghold, then when you go into battle you will only lose about 5 or 6 men/women.
