A good strategy is to recycle as many of the plants as possible that are found round your base because although they provide obsticles that the enemy need to overcome they also provide them visual cover for them to hide under and make you susceptible to ambushes.

Make sure you upgrade your bank as soon as you are able to as lots of the early training missions pay out good coin rewards and not having the storage capacity for the currency will unfortunately mean that you will lose it.

Make a point of building your turrets with overlapping areas of fire as this will help you later in the game when you reach the part where you have to defend your base from attacks.
