Contra 4 Cheats and Tips

To perform this glitch you must have zero lives left and die at the same time you get an extra life. The easiest way to do this is to kill the mini boss of level 1 when you have no lives left which earns you an extra life and then the instant you destroy it make sure you get hit by one of the fireballs it drops down.

At the 'Start' screen of the original Contra game press Up, Up, Down, Down, Left, Right Left, Right, Y, B, Start and you will begin the game with 30 lives which should help you progress through the game.

During gameplay pause the game and enter Up, Up, Down, Down, Left, Right Left, Right, B, A, Start and your weapons will be fully upgraded automatically through the game (this code only works in Normal or Hard mode).

Unlock Alternate Ending:

If you want to see the alternate ending you have to complete the game on the Normal or Hard difficulty setting.

Unlock Challenge Mode:

This mode becomes unlocked when you have completed the game.

If you want to do a Sound Test in Super C hold Y + B and press start when you see the games logo fade at the 'Title' screen and you will access Sound mode.

This setting is automatically unlocked when you have completed the game. Needless to say Hard mode is more difficult to complete as there are a lot more humans, machines, mutants and aliens trying to stop you reach your goal.

At the 'Title' screen press Right, Left, Down, Up, B, Y to get 10 extra men for the Super C version of the game.

When you beat the following amount of challenges in Challenge mode the corresponding effect is unlocked.

Unlock Contra (NES):

Beat 4 challenges.

Unlock Super C (NES):

Beat 8 challenges.

Unlock Probotector:

Beat 12 challenges.

Unlock Nobuya Nakazato Interview:

Beat 16 challenges.

Unlock Lucia (Character):

Beat 20 challenges.

Unlock Contra III Comic:

Beat 24 challenges.

Unlock Sheena Etranzi:

Beat 28 challenges.

Unlock Contra 4 DS Promotional Comics:

Beat 32 challenges.

Unlock Jimbo & Sully:

Beat 36 challenges.
