Map your Controller
Map actions such as throws that call for simultaneous button presses to their own buttons on your controller. Doing this will make perfoming them in battle easier.
Cross Guage
The blue bar is the Cross Gauge and this meter refills with time, the speed of which will depend if you used one block or two (slower if you used two blocks). The Cross Guage is used for actions involving your tag partner.
Distortion Guage
The guage that is beside the Cross Guage is the Distortion Guage and it fills up as you attack or are attacked. The Distortion Guage is used for certain skills (special moves) and the powerful distortion skills (super moves).
Mashing the Buttons
If you mash light attacks against a blocking opponent it will eventually leave you wide open, usually on the fourth attack. A more effective tactic instead of just pressing indiscriminately is to get comfortable with each of the three or four basic attacks your character has and learn when to switch them up and when to stop.
Stay on the Offensive
Try to stay on the offensive as much as possible, forcing your opponent to block is almost as important as actually scoring hits on them. Learn to patiently wait on defense for an opening where you can counter your opponents attack and turn the tables.
