I didn't start playing Halo until 2007 and even then I didn't play online very much. But I was hooked anyway. That's what a good game should do, hook you even if you haven't tested the best feature. Halo: Reach is no different. I started in a custom game, after paying for the game with my brother in change (I'm not joking, we used quarters!) and making my spartan. The armory got me thinking "this is going to be in my Xbox for a while" and it has.
Absolutely beautiful. All textures are solid and character models are life-like and strong. I give it a Nine because in splitscreeen the textures lose their flourish and pop-up is a normal occurence :(. This is a shame because I will find myself looking at the detail of a rock wall in the middle of a slayer match (and I'm not the only one). So every detail is savory, that's really what I'm getting at here. Not that I like walls enough to stare at them but.... 9/10.
Surely the most convincing weapon sounds around. Thunderous, intimidating, and believable. The campaign score is also very beautiful. The composers use drastically different techniques from previous entries while still maintaining the halo vibe. Death screams are also more varied for those who care. I do. 10/10
All Halo fans know that Halo is pure skill. Reach has a great HUD and easy to understand game-pad. Reticle inflation is a great feature and weapons are very balanced. I like the multiplayer because of this. I like how a recruit can hop on and kick an inheiritor all the way to forge world (which is now usable thanks to a great new interface) and while it doesn't happen often, it still is a possibility. Also the armor abilities can turn a game around. I know, I've seen it, I've done it. (hint: use active camo if you can! Or armor lock!) 10/10
I wish I could give this an 11. If Bungie keeps pumping effort into cheap, worthwhile, DLC this game will last until they shut down it's server and beyond that with the infinite replayability of firefight mode. Firefight is probably my favorite new addition, in case you care. Mainly because of the tweaks you can use. Infinite ammo and armor ability use+extra speed+low gravity=epicness.
I love Reach. Every single facet of it. The Campaign is fun and EPIC (most importantly) and the Forge/ Firefight aspects really raise the experience. Most importantly, the multiplayer is fun,, mostly because it allows you to avoid those cussers/trash talkers we all hate with a psych profile. Overall, EPIC
