If you are playing The Falconeer on Xbox you will be using a controller but if you are playing on PC it is recommended that you get one as playing with a mouse and keyboard will make things extremely tough. Any dual stick controller will do the job but seeing as the game is really optimized for Xbox controllers you may want to consider getting a wired Xbox One controller for your PC, which you will be able to pick up relatively cheap.
