Repeat Quests
Avoid the temptation of just completing the quests as they unlock and instead repeat quests to farm for materials and resources as forging new equipment and upgrading weapons is the only way your character will become stronger.
Prowler Mode
This feature which is activated from the board at the Palico Ranch allows you to play the game as a Palico instead of a human hunter. In this form you will not be able to use stlyes or arts but you will be able to mine for resources without having to worry about crafting gear like pickaxes and bug nets which means you should consider playing as a Palico whenever you get a gathering quest as you will be a lot more efficient.
Getting a Palico
The first thing you need to do once you have control of your character is to go to the Palico Ranch to the right side of the village and talk to the Meowstress so you can create your first Palico, a cat companion who will accompany you on your hunts. You can recruit up to two Palicos and they will fight alongside you and gather materials. You will be able to level up your Palicos by returning to the Ranch every so often to teach them new skills at the board.
Beginners Hunter Style
If you are a beginner you will find that some of the hunter styles are more complex to use than others therefore it is recommended that you start with the Guild or Striker styles as they are the most well-rounded and easiest to use.
New Valor Hunter Style
Check out the video below to see a demonstration of the new Valor hunter style which revolves around sheathing your weapon and holding down a button to enter a special stance that allows you to tank certain attacks.

Take the time to experiment with the different hunter styles to find out which one suits your play style best. Each one will give you access to different arts and abilities you can use in battle.
Tutorial Quests
If you are unfamiliar with the Monster Hunter series it is advised that take the time to do the training quests first. These short tutorial missions will teach you the basics of the game. If you do decide to do the training quests you will be rewarded with a decent amount of zenny which you can put towards new equipment and upgrades later on in the game.
