Don't Overheat your Engine

Although during a race you can use your boost to blast to the front of the pack it is vital that you don't allow your engines to overheat and start flaming otherwise you will find yourself breaking down and getting lapped. Always pull back on your throttle at the first sign of your engines overheating.

Don't Go Full Throttle

Aside from overheating your engines you will eventually find yourself crashing into a wall continually trying to go full throttle on the straight-line tracks.

Don't Go Full Throttle

Never try to go full throttle when you race on tracks that have caverns, twists, and turns as the only way you can safely traverse these types of courses is by continually toggling the accelerator. The best way to get around a tight bend is to let off the acceleration going into the turn and then accerlerate at the half-way point to boost away from the pack as you come out of the turn.

Cheat Codes

Unlock Cy Yunga and Jinn Reeso
Star Wars Episode I: Racer is a remaster of the N64 version of the game that was released in 1999 and like that game you can go to Tournament mode and select an empty name entry. If you type 'RRTANGENTABACUS' (without the quotes) as a name by pressing first L2, then L1 for each letter entry you will unlock Cy Yunga and Jinn Reeso.

Look for Shortcuts

If you venture off the beaten path during a race your pod will experience a severe slowdown. Although staying off the established racing track will cost you time the risk can bring a reward on several of the courses in the form of a secret shortcut. If you do manage to discover a secret path hidden just off the track it will allow you to take a big lead. Below are a some of the tracks in Star Wars Episode 1: Racer that have a short cut you can take advantage of.

Sunken City
Immediately before entering the tunnel after the colosseum, hug the left wall. You will ride up onto a small raised pathway.

Ando Prime
After completing your first lap, veer left and look for an open tent. This can be done on any of the Ando Prime snow levels and can be repeated on lap 3.

Gauntlet
Hit your boost hard before the long open straight away. Veer right, and you will save a lot of time.
