Salt and Sacrifice is a 2D action-role-playing Metroidvania game that is the sequel to Salt and Sanctuary and similar to its predecessor is inspired by the Souls series of games. Take a look at our Salt and Sacrifice Cheats and Tips to get help beating this game.
In a land plagued by powerful and twisted Mages, captured criminals face two choices for their punishment: death or service. Most opt for execution, but a brave few choose to live life in penance as Marked Inquisitors. These wandering wrongdoers hunt wicked Mages, devouring their hearts to prevent them from terrorizing the Kingdom any further.
We have a beginner guide here which goes into more details on some of the cheats and tips we have below:
Keep in mind that in Salt and Sacrifice Hearthen Flasks are not an infinite resource that always refills at shrines. In this game the only way the Hearthen Flasks will replenish is if you have enough Valley Herbs, the red plants that can be found scattered through each area.
One Valley Herb equals one Hearthen Flask, with flasks being crafted once you rest at a shrine. Take a look at our How to Upgrade your Hearthen Flask guide to find out how you can get more health for your character.
Ammunition is crafted at a shrine using Irona Ore, you can either gather this material or purchase it via a vendor that unlocks as you explore Ashbourne Village. They cost 100 silver each.
It is possible to craft ammunition while not at a shrine by holding the interact button (Square) on your PlayStation controller (C key on PC keyboard). Although this is a very slow process it can be helpful if you are really low on ammunition and a long way from a shrine.
In order to unlock the red doors that are found in each area of Salt and Sacrifice you must kill a specific number of Named Mages. If you interact with these red doors they will tell you how many more mages you need to defeat before it can be opened. Make a note of each door you encounter and revisit them as soon as the condition is met.
It is important that you access these doors as many of them lead to new areas, characters, or items that will help you considerably during the game.
Keep in mind that the Grappling Hook which you will acquire early in the game can be used as a weapon to deal extra damage to mages. If you deal enough consistent damage to a mage they will stagger. During this stagger one of their eyes will start flashing to indicate you can try to grapple it like any other grappling point. When you grapple it jump up and stab them in the eye.
This can then be followed up by an aerial attack to get in some more damage. Take a look at our Weapons Tier List to find out what the best weapons are in Salt and Sacrifice.
There are a number of shortcuts in each of Salt and Sacrifice's areas and before returning to camp you should try to unlock them in order to reduce backtracking. These shortcuts come in the form of extendable ladders or extra grapple points, and should be found as soon as possible.
It is important that you do this as there are no additional teleport points, regardless of which shrine you returned to camp from. This means without finding these shortcuts you will be spending a lot of time retracing your steps than visiting new locations.
