Q. Before you can use even anything here, what is the EVOLUTION MAP?
> It's the new system implemented in Patapon 2. It's basically a map
that your Patapon unit can explore by evolving them into Rarepons.
Q. What are RAREPONs?
> Rarepons are basically "ranked" Patapon units. Unlike your regular
white eyeball units, Rarepons are colored and exhibit various status
boosts. However, as a tradeoff, Rarepons cannot equip caps.
Q. Can't wear caps! They suck then!
> Nope. Well, low level, low-tier Rarepons do suck compared to
Normals. However, when you max out their level they're almost always
better than Normals even with the best caps!
Q. Can I pick multiple Rarepon types for my Patapon?
> Of course. Unlike in Patapon 1, each unit here can go through
multiple Rarepon types that they've unlocked for themselves, so
you don't have to kill your low-tier Rarepon to make a better one. :)
> Just think of Rarepon caps as replacements to caps Normal Patapons
use. You can basically equip through them.
> In order to select a type a unit has already learned, you can
basically just equip the Rarepon cap in the Equip Screen.

So how does the Evolution Map work? How do you "reveal" the Rarepons?
First, let us introduce three terms: NODE, REVEAL and ACTIVATE
- NODE is a "slot" in the map. In the ASCII graphics above, nodes are
search tags like [NYO] and [MEN], so basically they are the circles that
represent Rarepons in the map.
- REVEAL is the act of making a node light up so you can activate it.
- ACTIVATE is when you purchase the Rarepon node that is revealed.
The first thing that happens is that when you get a memory, only the
[NOR] node is revealed. When you activate a node, all nodes immediately
branching to its right gets revealed. For example, when you activate [NOR],
[PYO] and [BUH] gets revealed since they are immediate branches of [NOR].
Relatively, in order to reveal a node, you must activate all nodes
on its left. For example, in order to reveal [MEN], you must have [PYO]
and [BUH] activated. But in order to activate [PYO] and [MEN], you must
reveal them first by activating [NOR]. Touche. :)

Just look at the speed, it's ridiculous. By the time you max out its
level, you're down to a speed of 0.20s! Equipping speed equipment like
Winged Shield plus the haste mask brought my speed down to 0.02s!
Don't get too excited though. Even with ridiculously low speeds, they can
still only attack up to twice in one Pon Pon Pata Pon, which can still be
accomplished with Speed that's 1.00s or less.
But you're not stuck to just regular pons. What about a HERO YUMIPON?
Remember, the rate that Hero Yumipon fires his arrows is directly affected
by his Attack Speed during Hero Mode. You'll be raining enemies with
arrows this way. :)

The Angelpon was the "ultimate" Rarepon in Patapon 1, but it was
outclassed by the Mogyoon's sheer power. And now... it's still
outclassed, in my opinion. While the whopping 400% Crit Ratio is great,
it could use a bit more Damage bonus to make use of it. Not to mention,
it lost the Speed boost it had from Patapon 1.
Make up for its lack of Damage by giving it a powerful weapon.
One strange note is that in the description, it claims 20% Atk Spd boost,
but it's not evident in the status screen. I've yet to verify if there
is actually a boost, or if it's simply a Movement Speed boost.

The Mogyoons from Patapon 1 are back, and they're even more powerful than
ever before. Only one problem: only the Max Damage increases, so you can
get like 4-412 Damage for a Lv10 Moogyugyu with default equipment, so
damage can get erratic.
Could've been THE damage dealer if the Cnc Ratio went to Crit Ratio
instead. Still, great HP boost too. Third only to the rams.
