If you mean the rapter-like ones just use a quicker weapon,such as the hunting knife or the upgraded dagger.

The Velociprey really arent that difficult to beat. They jump around alot so you need to constantly be on the move. Make sure you have armor on, especially if you are that early in the game. I usually go with a big two handed blade, but I've been playing monster hunter for years. For a new player, a one handed, quicker-acting blade might be better. Also be careful, the first time they fall down and look dead, they usually get back up.

see,I also started playing not long ago,but it seems i get the hang of it.
Be sure when you go to a quest to have with you good armor and weapon.
i learned how to beat up monsters by just watching at them,dodging them and waiting for the right moment to strike.
also,you should know there are 12 types of weapons,practice at the training school with each one of them,until you see which weapong is the one.
for me it was the long sword,because of it's high dmg,because beeing a weapon that when you strike once,it may KO a monster (not including bosses or high leveled monsters).
so,you just need to practice and practice until you get the point and you are able to know when and how to strike a monster.
you should also know that there are some seeds that can increase your raw power and some seeds may increase you defense.
be sure to have enough of them when going to hunt a difficlut monster.

Veliprey can have Aplahe monster called Velecdrome has powerful attack you will die quickly it's higher but I did it it's easy xD I just play Monster hunter ps2 for a year 2012 now I completed all quest and I defeated rathalos and rathian with use seigumd has higher attack is 814. But it's good weapone. I just did it.
