It is not nescessary to engage in every battle, what is important though is that you keep your eye on your health and if you notice that it is getting low you start to skip battles whenever possible.

If you find yourself being pursued by enemies and need to escape look for the nearest teleporter and teleport to any of the other teleporters you have activated.

Throughout each level there are scrolls that can be found in vats that you will be able to pick up with R1.

Whenever you encounter an enemy that has a star over their head it is to indicate that if you kill them they wiil drop a scroll that you will be able to use.

Hidden in walls are secrets that can be obtained by hitting them with attacks.

Unless it is a boss you will find the enemies not very challenging as over time you will learn each of their movements and attacks. When you are attacked by enemies quickly roll behind them or parry the attack with a shield by pressing 'Triangle' on your controller.

Trade in your Dead Cells with the Collector for permanent upgrades that will be useful. In particular consider investing in the Health Flask which will extend the amount of times your health potion can be used, Gold Reserves which will enable you to carry over some of the money you collected from a previous play-through and the Random Starter Weapons which will enable you to start off with a weapon each time you die. The weapon you will be given will either be from the Bow, Shield, or Melee Weapon categories.

Make sure that you use the knowledge you acquired before you died to make sure you spend your Dead Cells appropriately so your next play-through on that level will be less challenging.

Although it will feel frustrating that you lose any progress you made on the map along with any items you found when you die there are some upgrades that can be carried over after death. As you play through the levels you will be collecting Dead Cells which can be traded for these upgrades and skills before you begin each level.
