Pokemon GO Walkthrough and Guide

When To Battle A Gym

Once a player's Trainer hits Level 5 and has chosen what Team they'd like to be apart of, they can officially start challenging Pokemon Gyms. Some will be owned by your Team, while others will be owned by one of the other two. No matter the case, players should know when and how to battle a Gym. Picking the perfect time could end in victory, just as how being off in timing could end in a heartbreaking loss.

The first thing a Trainer must take notice of is who owns the Gym, as well as the Pokemon that are found in it. If you are helping out one of your Team's Gyms, you need to pick six Pokemon that you know can do enough damage to help build the Gym's Prestige. If you don't have a number of Pokemon that can do this, you're better off leaving well enough alone, perhaps leaving an additional Pokemon if you can to help the cause.

On the other hand, if you're trying defeat another Team's Gym, you should first take a look at how many levels the Gym has. If it's just one or two Pokemon, because you also get to pick six here, you should have an advantage. But if the Gym has five, six, seven, or even up to ten Pokemon, you could be in trouble. You also must notice the Pokemon Typing and Levels of ALL the Pokemon apart of one of these Gyms. If you don't match up well with the typing or your Pokemon just don't compare in strength, again, you may as well not battle the Gym at all.

And never forget, always remember to have plenty of Revives and Potions (just like the Mainstream Pokemon Games) when facing off with a Pokemon Gym, even if your facing one your Team's own. If you don't have enough to heal up your Pokemon afterwards or if your unsure, don't risk it. There is nothing worse than lacking in Items and relying solely upon PokeStops; it's a disastrous plan.
