SnowRunner Cheats and Tips

Take a look at our collection of SnowRunner cheats and tips to get help in this sandbox-style trucking simulator where the enemy isn't time but the harsh and hostile terrain of Alaska, Michigan, and Russia. The game is available on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X, Switch, PC, and Mac.

SnowRunner Cheats and Tips

In SnowRunner your job is to pick up contracts, deliver cargo, tow other vehicles, and eventually build a miniature empire across the three separate regions. To upgrade your vehicle you need to complete the moment-to-moment challenges which will involve facing and overcoming challenging terrain and realistic physics by planning and driving carefully.

  • Scout Ahead

Whenever you enter a new region in SnowRunner you should deploy a scout class vehicle that is fitted with the appropriate tires to survey the exact route you intend to use later to transport goods with larger vehicles.

Doing this will enable you to first deal with any hazards blocking the pathway that will prevent you from reaching your destination. A quick way to survey the general area is to go straight to the watchtowers.

Check out our Map Guide page to get familiar with each of the different locations in SnowRunner and also to find some hidden upgrades that are not marked on the maps.

  • Clear the Pathway

You will quickly discover when you scout an area in SnowRunner that there will be some kind of hazard that will prevent you from reaching a checkpoint. These must be dealt with first to ensure you have a clear pathway that will enable you to get to your destination safely and quickly later when you transport your load in a larger truck. This will usually involve clearing roads and building bridges.

  • Sell Vehicles

When you initially scout a map in SnowRunner you will usually find a handful of abandoned vehicles which you will be able to claim. Some of these will require repairing using service tools while others can be added to your garage straight away. Sell off these vehicles if you don't intend to get cash to buy better trucks or upgrade the ones you do use.

Check out our Best Truck Guide to find out everything you need to know about the various types of vehicles in SnowRunner and how much they cost.

  • Search for Trailers

Aside from abandoned vehicles there will also be hidden trailers scattered throughout the game world which are worthwhile searching for as they become a valuable time saver when completing contracts as they allow you to transport more goods.

Unlike abandoned vehicles you find trailers cannot be sold. Trailers are often placed in such a way that they can be conveniently recovered and taken to a nearby checkpoint. Finding the trailers will also mean you will not have to spend money at the shop purchasing them.

  • Complete Contracts

When you complete the various contracts in SnowRunner you will earn cash which you can then spend on better vehicles, allowing you to tackle rougher ground, travel deeper into the wilds, and take on more lucrative missions.

  • Increase your Driver Rank

You must buy vehicles and upgrade them as you level up to increase your Driver Rank as doing so will make new vehicles or upgrades available in your garage. Upgrades will include a wider range of tires, add-on frames, and general improvements to truck handling and performance.

Check out our How to get Unstuck Guide to find out what you can do when your vehicle is trapped in snow or mud.

  • Daylight Hours

Only scout and haul cargo during the daytime, during this time of day your visibility is not impaired by the dark and you will be able to spot potential hazards in the road such as trenches and chunks of debris that have the potential to run you and your cargo off the road if you the wheels of your vehicle make contact with them.

  • Learn to Winch

Make sure you become familiar with how to use the winch in SnowRunner as this is your go-to tool whenever you need to quickly navigate rough terrain. It is particularly useful when you are in lighter vehicles.

The most important thing you need to remember if you intend on using the winch is to angle the approach of your vehicle to the harsh terrain in such a way that there is something, such as a tree or post you can attach your winch to.

Check out our How to use the Winch guide to find out how you operate this important piece of mechanical equipment in SnowRunner.

  • Play Co-Op Mode

Playing SnowRunner in co-op mode enables you to have your friends accompany you on routes. If they are not carrying anything this can make missions easier and faster to complete as they can scout the road ahead to clear pathways of hazards, or pull you along with their winch if you need to cross a rough surface.
