Regularly check Leafbook, the game's fantasy-world version of Facebook to view a quick summary of the story and to find where hidden items are located and to get monster information. It is also a good place to go for the latest tips and gossip.
Once you reach Chapter 4 you will access the kingdom management aspect and unlock the ability to craft and upgrade your own equipment. Up until that point in the game you should save your guilders because crafting and upgrading can be expensive.
It is not necessary to collect ALL the items that are scattered throughout the world and within towns and dungeons as they replenish over time. It is a good idea though to pick up any items you come across in the Dreamer's Maze dungeons.
There are certain dungeons you will only be able to access once you have unlocked a specific skill. On your first run-through a dungeon make a note of any areas you are unable to explore so you can return to them when you have unlocked the missing skill.
You can quickly travel anywhere in the world, including dungeons by using the trap door waypoints. To view all the trap door waypoints you can teleport to press 'Options' twice. Take advantage of this feature by making sure whenever you encounter a glowing blue spot you press X inside it so you can easily return to the location at a later date.
You will need to experiment with combos, charges, and aerial attacks to discover how to execute powerful attacks. The game mentions these attacks but does not explain how to perform them. For example, alternating between light and heavy hits will lead to different types of attacks and holding down the ranged attack button will charge it using MP and automatically lock it onto the enemy you're facing.
Until your character reaches Chapter 4 and the kingdom management aspect of the game there is no way of knowing for sure what skills a character has learned, so until then you need to remember to periodically check for new skills.
Once Lofty has unlocked the Tactics Tweaker you need to remember to customise it to suit your location and who you are fighting.
Pressing Square in the 'Weapons' or 'Equipment' tab of each character's equipment information screen will auto-equip the strongest equipment available. This option is useful for the basic battles but anything other than those you really need to take the time to hand-pick the correct equipment for each character to ensure you have the best possible chance.
During a battle you can either alternate between characters or stick to one by pressing Up or Down on the D-Pad. There is no clear advantage either way.
