Plug in the second controller after collecting the sword on stage one and then press 'Pause' 73 times. You will receive 45 pieces of gold for each press.
It is possible to stay the night at any Inn in the game even if you do not have the required amount of gold. If you are short the Inn will take whatever you have (even if you don't have any gold at all!)
