 Game Title: PixelJunk Monsters
             PixelJunk Monsters Encore
   Platform: PlayStation 3
FAQ Version: 1.33 (2008-08-22)
     Author: Paul Wolfenden (PsiPab)
===============================================================================

Hello and welcome to my FAQ/Walkthrough for PixelJunk Monsters and PixelJunk
Monsters Encore on the PlayStation 3. I created this guide because a) I like
the game a lot and b) there was nothing else on GameFAQs at the time of making
it. It's my first, and quite possibly last, attempt at making a FAQ so I hope
you'll find it a useful aid to this great game!

As of this version, the guide covers the entirety of the original game (Tiki
Island) and the first 5 levels of the Encore expansion (Toki Island). Be sure
to check back for updates frequently! The latest version, along with map
screenshots, can always be found at the address below:

PixelJunk Monsters is a PlayStation 3 game developed by Q-Games and available
exclusively through the PlayStation Store. It falls into the "tower defense"
genre, in which you try to defend your base by building towers to defeat waves
of attacking monsters. Monsters features 20 levels, beautiful hand-drawn
artwork, a perfectly executed offline co-op mode and online high score tables.

PixelJunk Monsters Encore is an expansion pack for PixelJunk Monsters. Encore
features a new island with 15 new levels, 5 new music tracks and a few tweaks
to tower costs. It also adds global online leaderboards so you can track your
overall scores for Tiki (Monsters levels) and Toki (Encore levels) island.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
1b. Gameplay Basics
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Objective

Your character starts each level standing by your base and flock, ready to
defend against invading waves of monsters. Your aim is simple; to keep as many
of your flock alive as possible. At the start of each level there are 20 of
them, but every time a monster makes it through to your base you will lose one.
To protect them you must build towers in the trees to kill the monsters before
they get that far.

Monsters

Monsters come in waves. Each wave consists of the same type of monster, from
just one up to 60 at once! Most levels consist of 20 waves, though some have
less. Monsters can have differing amounts of health and some are shielded
against certain attacks. See the monsters section (5MNSTR) for details.

Towers

Towers can be built in any accessible tree. Each tower costs coins and there
are various types available, all with different strengths and weaknesses. Every
tower can be upgraded up to 4 times. This can be done slowly by standing in it
and dancing, or instantly by spending gems on it. See the towers section
(4TOWER) for details.

Coins

You start each level with a set amount of coins. Monsters that are killed by
your towers will drop coins that you can collect. Do so quickly as they will
start flashing and then disappear after a while! You can also sell towers for
coins. Only do this when necessary though, as you get back just 70% of the cost
price of the tower.

Interest

After all the monsters in a wave are defeated, you receive interest on your
current total of coins. This is initially 5%, but the percentage can be
increased up to a maximum of 20% by spending gems on interest-boosting upgrades
at your base.

Gems

Some monsters will drop gems when they die. When you have enough of these, you
can go back to your base and unlock new tower types, or increase the interest
paid between waves. Gems can also be spent on instantly upgrading towers.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
1c. User Interface
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

When in a level, the majority of the screen is taken up by the playing area. A
status bar runs accross the bottom of the screen. The different parts of this
bar are explained below.

--------------------------------------------------------------
12 |___M_____________M| PIXEL*JUNK (1) 500 (2) 500
--------------------------------------------------------------
a b c d e

a: Current wave number
b: Next monster type
c: Monster type after next
d: Player 1 coins
e: Player 2 coins (co-op mode only)

Monster icons move right to left accross the wave bar. When (b) reaches the
left of the bar, the next wave of monsters starts. At that time (c) becomes the
new (b) and (c) is replaced with the new monster type after next. The cycle
then repeats.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
1d. Gameplay Tips
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Hidden Stuff

Every level has 3 sets of coins and a single gem hidden in the trees somewhere.
To find them, all you have to do is search the trees by walking over them.
Finding all the coins and the gem early on can be a big boost on the harder
levels, and is essential when doing a high score run. Note however that the
coins or the gem may sometimes be in trees that you can't get to.

Check Tower Status

Holding down the L1 button on the controller shows the upgrade status of all of
your towers at once. This is very useful for finding towers that are close to
being upgraded, and hence might be worth a quick dance in to finish off.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
1e. Unlockables
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

There are 3 unlockables in the game. Finish these levels to receive them:

Special 1 - Run ability (hold down Circle to run)
Special 2 - Remote mines (press Square to place/detonate)
Special 3 - Lightning tower

The unlocking requirements are the same on both Tiki and Toki islands.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
1f. Guide Conventions
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The level guides feature a breakdown of every wave of monsters on each level.
The columns used in the wave breakdown tables are explained below.

 # | Monster | H | S | Pattern
---------------------------------------------
 a | b | c | d | e

a: Wave Number

The number of the wave. A star next to the number means there is something
special about the wave. Check below the wave table for details.

b: Monster Type

The type of monster that the wave consists of.

c: Health

The amount of health that the monsters have, as represented by their health bar
colour. A dash (-) means green (normal), a plus (+) means blue (extra) and a
star (*) means pink (max).

d: Shield

The type of shield that the monsters have, as represented by their colour tint.
A dash (-) means none, (G) means green, (R) means red and (B) means blue.

e: Pattern

The number of monsters in a wave and where they come from. On levels with
multiple spawn points, a letter corresponds to the spawn points map. Plus
symbols (+) denote multiple sets of monsters at the same time. Commas (,)
denote multiple sets of monsters seperated by a delay. On levels with clear
left/right paths, arrows are used to indicate direction.

===============================================================================

Monsters features 21 levels. They consist of 1 tutorial, 4 easy, 7 medium, 6
hard and 3 special levels.

Just a nice simple introduction to the game and how it's played. Just follow
the in-game instructions and you can't go wrong. It's included here just for
the sake of completeness!

Looks easy and well defensible but beware the high number of monsters you'll be
facing, especially considering it's the first proper level. A good place to get
a feel for the different tower types and how upgrades effect them.

"Monsters have no coins here! Do what you can with your initial funds!"

Like the game says, monsters don't drop coins on this level, so you've got to
spend wisely. The map is one long path to your base, with monsters going off
the screen before reappearing on the other side. Don't neglect air defenses
here, as you'll be facing 3 waves of sycamores.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Another map with split paths, this one forms a large "X" pattern. For most
levels I wouldn't recommend concentrating on base defense, but here it can
really help, as the area leading up to the base is the only one that the
monsters always pass through.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

"They're all the same! This stage is filled with all the same type of monster."

Monsters pour in from just about every opening you can see at some point on
this map! However, it's not as hard as it looks, because with the exception of
the boss all 20 waves are just spiders. This means you can get away with
nothing but arrow towers. Start building close to your base as and work
outwards, with a focus towards the bottom half as that's where your flock is
and most spawns are from. For finishing the level you get the run ability.

2g. Medium 1 "Short cut."
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

This map has a painful, if obvious, twist. From wave 13 onwards, some of the
monsters in each wave will take the short route to your base. For this reason,
make sure you defend the downward path well in the later waves. This level also
introduces you to a green shielded pine for the first time, so consider saving
up gems to unlock fire towers which can take them down with ease.

2h. Medium 2 "Smile."
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

There are fewer trees and a wider corridor here than you might have become
accustomed to. Because of this, be sure to utilise both the trees nearest to
the pathway and the ones behind them, with say a cannon tower in front and
arrow tower behind. It's also worth building your towers mostly in the top set
of trees, as the few at the bottom don't have as much proximity to the
monsters' path.

2i. Medium 3 "Bridge out!"
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Much like Medium 1, this level lulls you into a false sense of security before
unleashing your worst nightmare. That is, if your worst nightmare involves an
army of bees crossing the river at the top of the map! There are a lot of
flying beasties here, so you'll want to build laser towers as soon as possible
to take them out. Don't forget to place them where they will hit an entire line
at once, and watch out for the crossing bees towards the end!

2j. Medium 4 "Treeless forest."
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

"There are just four trees! Choose the right tower for the job and switch types
in time!"

With only 4 trees available, you're going to be replacing your towers a lot on
this level. Arrow towers are useful here, as two fully upgraded ones on the
outer trees can help through most of the waves, with the two inner trees being
used depending on what you're facing. A final word of advice; the best way to
take down the boss is with 4 fully upgraded mortar towers.

2k. Medium 5 "Monster mishmash."
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

"It's a monster free-for-all! All different varieties of monsters will attack
in just one long wave!"

This level is surprisingly easy considering how far into the game it is.
There's only one proper wave of monsters and you are given a huge amount of
funds and all tower types with which to deal with them. Even if you do make a
mistake it's easy to just start again with different tactics because the level
is so short. For these reasons, I don't have any specific tips to give here, so
just enjoy finding out what works!

2l. Medium 6 "Heart."
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

This is a tricky one. You've got monsters entering from the top and then
splitting into the left and right paths that lead to your base. With only a
limited number of trees in range of the key points, you're going to have to
cover each side as well. It's worth noting that all flying monsters take the
left path, so only build air defenses to cover that side.

2m. Medium 7 "Roundabout."
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Despite how it looks, there's only two spawn points on this level; the bottom
left and the bottom right. The 2x4 trees that stick out from the lower middle
part of the map can be useful, as monsters from both spawn points will usually
pass by them. Beyond that a typical base defense is needed to finish off those
that get through. Be aware that fire isn't effective on this level as there are
4 waves of red shielded monsters. Consider a different tower type as an unlock
instead.

2n. Special 2 "Lines of attack."
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

It's all about the flying monsters here. Build plenty of anti-air guns to
defeat the initial waves, then supplement them with lasers as soon as you have
enough gems. Arrow towers can deal with the few waves of spiders but you'll
need something stronger in the later stages to deal with a single wave of
giants and the boss. For beating this level you receive remote mines.

2o. Hard 1 "So many monsters."
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

They weren't kidding with the title of this level. Research lasers at the first
opportunity and place them where they will be most effective, perhaps in the
middle of the t-junction so they can hit all sides. Go for fire towers next to
mow down ground enemies but don't forget to keep your air defenses up too. By
the end, you're going to need all the fire towers you can afford to deal with a
wave of 60(!) green shielded spiders. The boss is still the medium type so no
worries there.

2p. Hard 2 "Double team."
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

This level is one of the hardest in the game, thanks to the dual-sided design
and short pathways from spawn to base. Unlock lasers first but follow it up
with fire as soon as possible because the monster numbers really ramp up after
the halfway point. If you make it to the end, you'll get your first experience
of the hard boss, who is both fast and tough. Build as many mortars as you can
to deal with it, selling useless towers such as anti-air and lasers if
necessary.

2q. Hard 3 "Pond patrol."
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

These snowy levels are, in my opinion, the nicest looking in the game. This one
has you facing off against flying creatures crossing the pond and ground
beasties taking the long winding path around it. Do just enough to deal with
the ground monsters first then put most of your effort into dealing with the
many waves of fliers. Lasers are of course essential, with fire of little use
until after the red shielded waves have passed, at which point you'll need it
for lots of green shielded giants.

2r. Hard 4 "Swirling paths."
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

"So lonely! Protect the last of your flock!"

Oh cruel level designers, forcing us to get a rainbow or nothing. There are
several ways to attempt this one. You could start with base defense and work
outwards, or spread your towers out from early on. A few fire towers can be a
big help on this level. If you've not used remote mines as a last resort yet,
consider doing so here. There's nothing worse than getting to the later waves,
only to have a monster with low health finish off your flock!

2s. Hard 5 "Semicircle assaults."
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

"Monsters have no gems, here! All the monsters will need to be taken down with
just the basics!"

This level sounds fun. That is, until you realise just how essential towers
like fire and laser have become by now. Monsters are sent down both paths in
equal numbers for the most part, so build to defend both sides. You need lots,
no, loads of all 3 default tower types to survive this one. Then as if it
wasn't bad enough already, they send not one but two hard bosses for the
finale. Paint their way with cannons, selling everything else as you go.

2t. Hard 6 "The Final Stage."
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Considering this is "The Final Stage" it's not that difficult. Again, monsters
enter from the top and split into left and right paths. As such no special
tactics are needed here. Base your defense on, well, base defense! There's lots
of trees with which to do so and nice long pathways to keep the monsters
occupied. You will face all 3 types of boss at the end but thanks to the
aforementioned long pathways and the fact they all go left they're surprisingly
easy to deal with. For finishing this level you receive a congratulatory
message, followed by the game's credits.

2u. Special 3 "Eruption Destruction."
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

"Volcanoes ruin everything! In between waves, a tower will be destroyed by
volcanic rocks!"

This is the true final level in my opinion. Thankfully it's nice and
interesting! As the game says, at the start of every wave a random tower will
be destroyed. For this reason, you might not want to upgrade your towers too
far because you never know how long they will last. The 5 trees in the middle
are your friends, as most monsters will circle them before heading to your
base. The trees surrounding them are useful for the same reason. For finishing
this level you unlock lightning towers.

Encore features 15 levels. They consist of 4 easy, 4 medium, 4 hard and 3
special levels.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
3a. Easy 1 "Whipped Frenzy."
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Don't be fooled by the "easy" part in that name. Nothing is easy in Encore, as
you'll quickly find out if you're trying out these levels without thoroughly
beating Tiki island first. Pay close attention to spawn points, and be aware
that monsters will be dropping much less loot than you're used to from the
harder original levels.

3b. Easy 2 "Zen Loop."
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

A single spawn point is something of a reprieve after Easy 1, but don't expect
an easy victory. Watch out for the Sycamores - there's an awful lot of them to
deal with so plan for a solid air defense. Also look out for numerous waves of
the tougher (blue health bar) giants, as you might need something stronger than
cannons for these.

3c. Easy 3 "Paku-Paku."
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Prepare to be heavily assaulted from two sides. While your flock might seem
well protected in the middle, the lack of surrounding trees means mounting a
late defense is not really possible. For that reason, you're going to have to
do the bulk of your monster mashing elsewhere, on either side of the map.
Again, beware the large numbers of sycamores and upgraded giants.

3d. Easy 4 "Deja vu."
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Deja vu indeed. This level has the exact same layout as Easy 1 on Tiki island,
but with a snowy theme. Of course, the similarities end there, as you'll face
double the waves, many more monsters and be introduced to regular monsters with
pink health bars. Yep, that means they're even tougher than their blue health
bar featuring brethren! Despite the abundance of trees and the linear path,
correct tower placement is still the key to comfortably beating this level.

3e. Special 1 "Origin."
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

"Monsters won't drop coins, but if you clear the stage you will receive a
special item."

This level features the same twist as Tiki's Easy 3, whereby the monsters don't
drop coins. So spend wisely, and instead boost your funds by purchasing
interest upgrades with your gems. Fortunately there's no monsters with extra
health here, so the basic three tower types should see you through to the end.
For completing the level you get the speed potion, which you'll no doubt have
missed greatly since your arrival on Toki island!

4. Towers [4TOWER]
===============================================================================

By default there are 9 regular types of tower available, though there is a 10th
that unlocks after beating Special 3. On Tiki island the cannon, arrow and
anti-air gun towers are available at the start of a level, while on Toki island
the ice tower is included as well. The other towers are available for unlocking
at your base by spending the required amount of gems.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
4a. Upgrading
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Towers can be upgraded to improve their stats. A tower will upgrade slowly by
itself but the process can be speeded up by standing in it and dancing, or the
upgrade can be bought instantly with gems. Upgrade levels are detailed below.

Level | Flag | Gem Cost
----------------------------
1 | Green | -
2 | Yellow | 1
3 | Red | 1
4 | Purple | 2
5 | Black | 3

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
4b. Arrow Tower
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

"An all-round tower which can attack ground and air monsters."

Arrows have a reasonable range and can hit both ground and air targets but are
also weak and slow. They are most effective against spiders and bats. They are
also useful as a final defense against monsters that have already been weakened
by other towers such as cannons. Upgrade to improve their range only as
necessary. The final upgrade is power but it is rarely worth the time or gems.

4c. Cannon Tower
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

"Fires a cannonball which affects all monsters near point of impact."

Cannons pack a decent punch and do splash damage but they fire slowly and with
very limited range. For this reason they must be placed close to the path of
monsters or they won't fire at all. They are very effective against pines and
reasonable against giants. All upgrades improve power so focus on the ones that
are going to damage the most enemies.

4d. Anti-Air Gun Tower
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

"A rapid-fire tower which targets only flying monsters."

Anti-air guns have a good range but don't do much damage and start of being
rather slow. Best used against sycamores and bats, as they are less effective
against bees. Upgrades improve speed and finally power. A lot of the time
they're all you've got against flying monsters so upgrade as far as you can to
minimise the number of these towers required.

4e. Ice Tower
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

"A burst of freezing air is fired to slow down monsters."

Ice slows down ground monsters for a very short amount of time. The idea is to
slow them down so they can be hit more often by your other towers, but in
practice ice just aren't effective enough to make much difference. Hence most
players don't use this tower, even on Toki island where it is available by
default. Spend your coins, gems and effort on offensive towers instead.

4f. Laser Tower
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

"Shoots at airborne monsters with powerful laser beams."

Lasers are powerful and have good range but slow speed. They are the only tower
that can effectively deal with bees so you're going to need a lot of them
through the course of the game. Their fire is a long straight line so place
them where they can damage an entire row of flying monsters at once for maximum
effect. All their upgrades are useful.

4g. Tesla Tower
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

"Releases a high-power electrical attack on all nearby monsters."

Tesla fire has good power but limited range and speed. This is a tower that I
personally don't use, though I'm sure there are players who do find a purpose
for it. For me, the gems and coins are better spent on the more powerful and
versatile fire tower.

4h. Fire Tower
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

"Fires a powerful flaming stream to hurt multiple monsters."

Fire is very powerful, has a good spread and a reasonable range but takes a
while to recharge between firing. It is highly effective at mowing down ground
forces, especially slow moving ones like pines and giants. Fire is also a must
against monsters with green shields. All upgrades are useful.

4i. Mortar Tower
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

"One powerful hit affects many monsters with a wide spread."

Mortars are powerful hitters with a good range and area of effect. They are
basically an improved canon, so naturally they do best against pines and
giants. Thanks to their range, they are useful for taking down the stronger
bosses in the game. Upgrades improve the spread of their splash damage.

4j. Hive Tower
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

"Creatures launch from the hive, targeting monsters from the air."

Hive towers shoot out bees towards the player's position that attack anything
that gets in their way, be it ground or air based. You can only build one on a
level, so place it carefully. While they are difficult to master, when used
correctly the hive can be the most powerful tower in your arsenal.

4k. Lightning Tower
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

"Supremely powerful, this weapon attacks all monsters on the stage."

Note: This is a special tower that is only unlocked after you beat Special 3.

Lightning attacks all monsters on the level simultaneously but is very weak and
slow. You can only build one on a level, and where it is placed makes no
difference. Because the lightning tower only becomes available after beating
most of the levels, there are very few situations where it is useful.

5. Monsters [5MNSTR]
===============================================================================

You'll face 9 different critters in the game, made up of 6 regular monsters and
3 special boss monsters, one for each difficulty level.

Note: Regular monster stats are relative only to each other and boss monster
stats are relative only to other bosses.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
5a. Shields
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Some of the regular monsters in the game are shielded with a green, blue or red
shield. These increase a monsters defense against certain attacks and weaken
them against others.

Type | Strengths | Weaknesses
----------------------------------------------
Green | Cannon, Mortar | Fire, Tesla
Blue | Ice, Cannon, Mortar | Fire
Red | Fire, Tesla | Cannon, Mortar

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
5b. Pine
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

"A common monster, cursed by a haunted mask. Though fairly harmless alone, in
groups they can be fearsome!"

Pines are slow and weak but can still cause problems in high numbers. Take them
down with cannons at first and later with fire. Arrows don't bother them much.

    Type: Ground
   Speed: **
Vitality: *

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
5c. Sycamore
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

"An airborne creature. Many towers cannot hit flying creatures. Plan your air
defenses well!"

Sycamores are the pine of the airborne world, i.e. slow and weak. Anti-air guns
will deal with them best early on, followed by lasers when available.

    Type: Air
   Speed: **
Vitality: *

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
5d. Spider
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

"Weak creatures which speed towards your flock! Check their routes, and use
quick towers to kill them fast!"

Spiders are going to catch you out throughout the game thanks to their very
high speed. Initially weak only to arrows, they can be taken down quickly later
on by fire. In big waves they are good at avoiding damage from canons.

    Type: Ground
   Speed: *****
Vitality: **

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
5e. Bat
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

"Bats race through the air at speed! Well placed lasers and arrows should help
you."

Bats are the spiders of the skies, i.e. blink and they're feasting on your
flock. And just like spiders, they are weak to arrows. Anti-air and lasers are
also effective.

    Type: Air
   Speed: ****
Vitality: **

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
5f. Giant
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

"Very strong but slow monsters. Weaker weapons are no user here!"

Giants are big, strong and slow. Canons are the only option at the beginning of
a level, followed by mortars and ground monsters' worst nightmare, fire. They
shrug off arrows.

    Type: Ground
   Speed: *
Vitality: *****

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
5g. Bee
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

"The strongest of the flying monsters! If you see these coming, you had better
have some laser towers primed for action!"

Bees are the giants of the flying monsters, i.e. strong but slow. Lasers are
the only way to deal good damage to swarms of these, with anti-air guns only
useful for picking off the weakened ones.

    Type: Air
   Speed: *
Vitality: *****

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
5h. Boss Type 1
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The easy boss is large, golden, statuesque and has many eyes. About the only
option you'll usually have against him in the easy levels is the faithful
cannon tower. Make sure your cannons are actually in range of his path and
upgrade them all as far as you can.

    Type: Ground
   Speed: *
Vitality: *

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
5i. Boss Type 2
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The medium boss appears to be an upside-down triangle of rock with dangly arms.
Whatever he is, he's a step up from the easy boss in terms of speed and
resilience. Hit him hard with upgraded cannons and, where possible, fire and/or
mortars.

    Type: Ground
   Speed: ***
Vitality: ***

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
5j. Boss Type 3
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The hard boss is a highly evolved snail with barnacles. With his high speed and
staying power, he's also your very worst enemy at the end of hard levels. Pelt
him with projectiles from mortars and/or burn him with fire to stop him
spoiling your party.

    Type: Ground
   Speed: *****
Vitality: *****

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
6a. The Game
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Q. Why do some levels on the map have trees on them?
A. Trees indicate that you've completed that level.

Q. Why do some levels on the map have a rainbow over them?
A. A rainbow indicates that you've completed that level perfectly, i.e. all of
your flock survived to the end.

Q. Why do some levels on the map have dots around them?
A. Dots indicate there is something special about the level. For instance, on
Tiki Easy 3 the monsters don't drop any coins.

Q. How much does this game cost?
A. Monsters costs USD 9.99 in the US and GBP 3.49 in the UK. The Encore
expansion costs USD 5.99 or GBP 1.99. It makes a nice change for us Brits to
get the lower price! Whatever the currency, they're both a bargain.

Q. Can the game be played online?
A. No. The co-op mode is offline only. The only online feature is the high
score leaderboards.

Q. Can the game be played through remote play on a PSP?
A. Yes. Remote play is fully supported. Naturally the graphics aren't as crisp
and you may experience some lag but it's pretty neat nonetheless.

Q. Who made the music in this game?
A. The music and sound is original work by Japanese ambient techno group
Otograph.

Q. What's with all the exclamation marks in the game?
A. You've noticed too? The game is full of them, especially in the messages
that appear before levels. I suspect it may be a translation thing, as I
believe the game was made in Japanese and later translated to English. That, or
someone just really! likes! exclaiming!

Q. What does the "1-2" or "1-2a" mean above the PixelJunk logo?
A. It's the game's number in the PixelJunk series. PixeJunk Racers was 1-1,
PixelJunk Monsters is 1-2, PixelJunk Monsters Encore is 1-2a, PixelJunk Eden is
1-3 and so on.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
6b. This FAQ
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Q. Are your monster names correct?
A. Yes, they are the official English names. In early versions of the guide
some names were different because no official names had been published. They
were eventually revealed through the PixelJunk website.

Q. Are you going to add a detailed walkthrough for the levels?
A. No. This guide is intended as an aid to help you improve at the game so you
can find your own way through. Trust me, this game is worth the effort. If you
are really, completely stuck, there's some video walkthroughs on YouTube.

Q. Are you going to do guides for other PixelJunk games?
A. I'd like to but it seems unlikely. When I started writing this guide, I had
no idea how much work it would involve. Then Encore came out and it was like
doing it all again. That said, never say never!

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
6c. Miscellany
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Q. Are there more games like this?
A. Yes. The game is based on the well-established tower defense genre. Search
Google for "tower defense" and you'll find other examples, most of which are
free to play in your web browser.

Q. Are you actually any good at this game?
A. I created this guide because I love the game, not because I'm particularly
good at it! That said, my wife and I have rainbowed all the levels in both the
original game and the Encore expansion, so we must be doing OK.

7a. Credits
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

This guide was written by Paul Wolfenden (PsiPab). A large amount of the credit
for the level breakdowns goes to my wife Donna (Teews), who played the game
with me for dozens of hours to get everything written down. Not always an easy
task, especially when you're counting up to 60 monsters in one go, so a huge
thanks to her for all the help!
