This guide was designed to do the following things: - Guide people towards the end of the game, in a fashion that allows them to pick up every single item that cannot be retrieved at a later date. - To enlighten the player about every item that has limited use and/or limited availability, and ensure that the player can achieve a "perfect file" with whatever attention to detail such a thing might require. I have created an Excel spreadsheet that contains 'checklists' as it were, that allow you to keep track of which Ethers and Skills each character has learned, as well as an inventory checklist to make sure you get your hands on every last item in the game. The spreadsheet also allows the player to track the changes they make to their character's statistics. These spreadsheets project those changes over the course of 99 levels and display what your character's maximum statistics will be at level 99. These sheets go hand-in-hand with my Statistics Guide. Feel free to e-mail me for this Spreadsheet: jolostuki (at) hotmail (dot) com One note before beginning: Any PS3 units that use the emulation software instead of the PS2's actual Emotion Engine cannot play Xenosaga: Episode I: Der Wille zur Macht properly. Upon entering the Robot Academy in the Kukai Foundation, your game will freeze. This prevents you from getting quite a few items. The rest of the game, however, is fine to play. I hope for your sake, you have a PS2 and/or the PS2 memory card adaptor. Now, onto the Missable Items Guide. ============================[ Table of Contents ]============================= ---------------------------------[ 04.ToC ]----------------------------------- [ 01.Lgl ] Legal [ 02.Fmt ] Format [ 03.Int ] Introduction [ 04.ToC ] Table of Contents [ 05.KYP ] Keep Your Eyes Peeled [ 06.ILs ] Items List [ 06.NMI ] Non Missable Items [ 06.MIt ] Non Missable Items [ 07.KSM ] KOS-MOS Simulator [ 07.Pnt ] Point Check [ 08.Wog ] Woglinde [ 08.Pnt ] Point Check [ 08.Shp ] Shops [ 09.Plm ] Pleroma [ 09.Pnt ] Point Check [ 10.Els ] Elsa [ 10.Pnt ] Point Check [ 10.Shp ] Shops [ 11.EUT ] Elsa: U-Tic Invasion [ 11.Pnt ] Point Check [ 11.Shp ] Shops [ 12.UTB ] U-Tic Battleship [ 12.Pnt ] Point Check [ 13.DCy ] Dock Colony [ 13.Pnt ] Point Check [ 13.Shp ] Shops [ 14.CSh ] Cathedral Ship [ 14.Pnt ] Point Check [ 14.Shp ] Shops [ 15.Dur ] Durandal [ 15.Pnt ] Point Check [ 15.Shp ] Shops [ 16.KFd ] Kukai Foundation [ 16.Pnt ] Point Check [ 16.Shp ] Shops [ 17.DrI ] Durandal: Invasion [ 17.Shp ] Shops [ 18.EMt ] Encephalon: Miltia [ 18.Pnt ] Point Check [ 18.Shp ] Shops [ 19.DAg ] Durandal: Again [ 19.Shp ] Shops [ 20.KFI ] Kukai Foundation: Invasion [ 20.Pnt ] Point Check [ 20.Shp ] Shops [ 21.OMT ] Durandal: One More Time [ 21.Shp ] Shops [ 22.SoN ] Song of Nephilim [ 22.Pnt ] Point Check [ 22.Shp ] Shops [ 23.OLT ] Durandal: One Last Time [ 23.Pnt ] Point Check [ 23.Shp ] Shops [ 24.PMk ] Proto Merkabah [ 24.Shp ] Shops [ 25.Thx ] Credits and Thanks ==========================[ Keep Your Eyes Peeled ]=========================== ---------------------------------[ 05.KYP ]----------------------------------- I'm making sure that you get everything there is to get in this game. Scout's honour. First thing's first, though. I will not point out the locations of stupid items like Med Kits and stuff that is always purchaseable. If it's a one-time-only chest, or one-time-only destructible cannister, then yeah, I'll point it out, but I'm not going to point out the location of every destructible object in the game. Although this is not an e-mail FAQ, or a Decoder FAQ, I have chosen to include all of them, simply because it will be too frustrating and/or annoying to pass back and forth between several guides to see which ones you've obtained, and which ones you've missed. Everything will be listed chronologically, with 'event' triggers between each item to signify how far you are in the area. The game is very touchy with its windows of opportunity. For your convenience, I have included a section called "Skill Check" that helps you to choose which Skills to extract, in order to maintain S.Pts efficiency. I will also track how many Upgrade items you should have accumulated by now. A certain boss towards the end of the game holds the Soul and Spirit, the male and female counterparts of some very interesting end-game armour. While the third Soul and Spirit are missable, it should be noted that you never need more than 2 of each. The only males that can equip the Soul are Jr. and chaos, and the only females that can equip the Spirit are Shion and MOMO. It is entirely up to you if you want to be bothered attempting it. Frankly, the only inconvenience in attempting this is learning and transferring Psycho Pocket. In order to steal 3 of each, we need Shion equipped with the White Ring, and MOMO in the party (although, you can sub out Shion for chaos or Jr.) MOMO and the second person (who has 8 Agility without equipment) will need to have the Psycho Pocket Ether transferred to them. You will also need MOMO's Dark Scepter (so Mintia will have to be defeated before you take out Gigas). Because of this, Shion makes a better candidate for MOMO's partner in crime. You will be better off using 3 females against Mintia (she hates males and will deal more damage). I will explain the course of action when the Gigas fight arrives towards the end of the game. Just do your best to follow the Skill Check sections, which also recommend Ethers. By default and for purpose of simplicity, I chose Shion as MOMO's partner in crime. Any Skills I suggest extracting for these two, I also suggest for anyone else you use in combat. Feel free to dip into your Skill, Ether, or Tech Point Stocks anytime. Just remember the Ether Upgrade Z and Tech Upgrade Z items cannot be obtained again once you use them, so I'd advise against using them. As a rule of thumb, I will suggest a couple of things: ANALYZE EVERYTHING YOU SEE, THE FIRST TIME YOU SEE IT, INCLUDING BOSSES AND THEIR MINIONS! STEAL FROM EVERY BOSS, AND EVERY UNIQUE-LOOKING MONSTER YOU COME ACROSS! IF YOU PLAN ON KEEPING ALL OF THE PROMOTIONAL (PM CARD) CARDS IN YOUR INVENTORY, RATHER THAN UNWRAPPING THEM FOR THE XENOCARD GAME, BUT YOU ALSO WANT TO GET AS MANY XENOCARDS AS POSSIBLE FROM STARTER PACKS, AND CARD PACK # 1 and 2, BUY THE STARTER PACKS and CARD PACKS AND UNWRAP AS MANY AS YOU POSSIBLY CAN BEFORE GETTING YOUR FIRST PM CARD. ONCE YOU'RE HAPPY WITH WHAT YOU'VE GOT IN YOUR XENOCARD DECK, START COLLECTING PM CARDS. /end annoying On that note, let's begin. ===============================[ Items List ]================================= ---------------------------------[ 06.ILs ]----------------------------------- If you're ever in a panic about having missed something, check here to make sure you can get another copy of it later. If that is the case, you can rest easy knowing it's not a huge deal that you missed it. The following is a list of every item in the game that cannot be missed, and where to get it. Another list will follow of the elusive items, and their locations. Take note that when I list an item as a 'drop', it may also be a rare drop. By using the various Steal Ethers in the game ("Queen's Kiss" and "Psycho Pocket"), you will attempt to steal from the group of items that an enemy will drop. These are also "steal items" by default. Items with an [I] across from them can be obtained infinitely. Items with an [X] across from them are only obtainable at the places described beside them. If an item can be obtained infinitely, I will not list places where the item is found elsewhere. I will also not list items if they are dropped by an enemy who has a limited appearance, unless it is the only enemy that drops the item. +-Non-Missable Items------------------------------------------[ 07.NMI ]-+ | | | Med Kit [I] Shops, Prayer, Drop: - Behind the door is a chest with the Snake Hunter, but also Segment Address # 4. DECODER # 4 - Notice the AGWS Ziggy wants to avoid fighting? That's because the sneaky bugger has Decoder # 4 on him. The fight is a little rough for Ziggy and MOMO, and a lot tougher for Ziggy alone. I'd come back with the EVS plate when you have more party members to sop up the damage and Exp. ITEM - SEGMENT ADDRESS # 4 - Now that you have both the Decoder and the Segment Address location, go get that Thief Ring. NOTE: Remember, if you don't pick up the Decoder and Segment Address # 4, it isn't gone for good. I'm just listing the Segment Addresses because the accessories are almost always useful. NOTE: If you are stat-maxing, forget about defeating Margulis, he's wasted Experience points. If not, take note that Margulis drops the Red Ring or Purple Ring (rare), so you can instantly make use of the Thief Ring (+10% rare drop rate). Good luck beating him, he's one hell of a challenge. MISSABLE ITEMS FROM SHOPS Now here is where the game gets weird. At almost every point that something significant happens in the story, every shop's inventory gets packed full with all sorts of goodies. In order to keep their inventory flowing, the old stuff has got to go...So, keep on your toes, or you're going to miss something. There are going to be a lot of times that items disappear, so you have to be careful while reading this guide. Up until now, we've been lucky to be able to take our sweet time while purchasing, but we don't get that comfort anymore if we want to have a little bit of everything. Before you leave the Dock Colony, make sure to purchase the A.G.W.S. tune-ups from the "Talk To Me" shop. They will play an integral role in the upcoming boss fight. He cannot be skipped, but if he doesn't drop the Ether Upgrade Z, you miss having one more of them in the inventory. Ether upgrade Z cannot be acquired in the end-stages of the game from enemies. Make sure you steal his Ether Upgrade S. We'll put it to work a while later. ITEM - After defeating the Hydra plants, grab the Flower Seed in the hall behind it. The item itself is not missable, however, Luty progresses her side-quest in stages, based on major events in the game. If you run out of major events to push forward her progress, the quest cannot end. It is best to get this out of the way as soon as possible. Much like the Hazardous Area Map, if you want to keep this in your inventory, and choose to opt out of finishing it for the Tech Upgrade Z (found elsewhere), just don't talk to Luty again. I believe she'll take it, no matter where you are in the game, regardless of whether or not the quest can still be completed. DECODER # 15 - The Hydra rewards you with tis Decoder. SEGMENT ADDRESS # 13 - After you defeat Perun and the Hydra Plants, you are forced to wedge your way through a corridor containing a wandering Cerberus. As you can see below, there are a ton of destructible containers and a couple of tough- looking enemies. Proceed around the ledge, and exit south-west. Hop on the elevator, and enter that same room from the bottom-level. Once you clear out the Unicorns (or if you're good enough at avoiding them, and have plenty of EP to keep using "Goodbye" when they catch you), check out this Segment Address on the right side of the northern wall. ITEM - Stribog will reappear in a subsequent visit, but only if he isn't killed on the first trip. Again, if you defeat him without stealing his item, the Skill Upgrade Z...well, it's not a huge loss, since they can be looted endlessly at the end of the game, but it would be nice to have. Like his brothers, steal his Skill Upgrade S item, just because you can. DECODER # 9 - After defeating Stribog, you can access a Decoder, which belongs to the Segment Address we're going to find in the next building. SEGMENT ADDRESS # 9 - This is found on the third floor, on the right-hand side of the research lab. You know you're in the right place, because you're up on the third floor, blowing up the locks on the elevator. ITEM - SEGMENT ADDRESS # 9 - Another seemingly useless item... - Your reward is the Robot Part - Left Arm ANALYSIS - Analyze the Oudogogues during the encounter with the Gargoyle boss. This enemy can never be encountered again, period. ITEM - Make sure that you steal from the Gargoyle boss and do not stop until the Commander's Crest is successfully stolen. This is your only opportunity to get it. I like to try and steal the Silver Crown just in case, even though it drops after the fight. I would suggest using the newly acquired "Magic Caster" tech with MOMO, and follow that up by using "Queen's Kiss" with Shion. You should end up with both items on your first try. Queen's Kiss *MAY* fail, but it shouldn't take more than another try. Magic Caster can not fail, so that Commander's Crest is yours. ================================[ Durandal ]================================== ---------------------------------[ 15.Dur ]----------------------------------- +-Point Check-------------------------------------------------[ 15.Pnt ]-+ | | | It's been a while since we've done one of these things. | | | | No need to learn anything just yet, so I'm just going to track the | | Ether Upgrade A (x4) we can pick up in the Residential Area's | | destructible objects. | | | | SP Stock = 600 Pts. If you're still short, you can get the Casino Passport (mentioned below), or EVS dive and earn the cash the old-fashioned way. PASSPORT - Head to the very northern section of the residential area, and turn right, into the games room. Open the chest for the Casino Passport. Buy 1000 tokens, and play Poker. Once you've won about 5,000 tokens on Hi-Lo, switch to slots. Once you get the hang of playing the slot machines, you can turn those 5,000 tokens into 100,000 tokens in no time flat. Sell all your Med Kits, Ether Packs, Revives and Cure-Alls. Now purchase 99 Recovery Sets for 9900 Tokens, and sell aforementioned items for about 11,000g profit. Now keep doing that. GREAT JOE - While this dude isn't missable, he offers some really nice rewards up front. It's a shame to defeat him early on because he'll most likely provide your frontline characters with 2 level ups if you defeat him before level 20 (which hurts your stat maxing). On the other hand, he drops the Swimsuit item (100% of the time). The Swimsuit item grants 25% more Tech Points to anyone wearing it, or using its extracted skill. The best part is that it stacks with the item, so one lucky person in your party receives 50% more Tech Points. This is a good way to get your party members stat-synced. Just give the person with the least amount of exp to the next level the Swimsuit, and right before they level-up, boost all of their stats. Although you lose 2 levels of Stat Gains (+12 to all stats, theoretically), the amount of T.Pts you'll be gaining between levels is well worth the trade-off. The second option is to get another Swimsuit from the Driller Mini- Game once you've completed the Encephalon: Miltia stage of the game, and pick up the second Swimsuit during the Kukai Invasion. By giving all three party members +25% T.Pts skill and 2 members the Swimsuits, you'll more than make up for the boat-load of Experience Joe dishes out. It's entirely up to you, but I find that defeating him sooner, rather than later, provides a much more gratifying victory. Although, keeping an end-game save-file with Joe intact can come in handy if you ever want to beat the snot out of a semi-tough enemy with your uber-stats. - Either way, your reward for beating Great Joe is a Swimsuit item. SEGMENT ADDRESS # 5 - Once you reach the shattered highway area, you'll notice a manhole towards the end, instead of going down it, go past it, and blow up the block near the Realian woman. Descend into the sewers, and run up the stairs. Upon resurfacing, you'll be in the starting area again, but on a lower level. Defeat the purple Troll enemy, and open the door with Decoder # 5. ITEM - SEGMENT ADDRESS # 5 - You are rewarded with the Double Buster. One of the most valuable accessories in the game. Return to the sewers, and back to the highway. Go down the first manhole you discovered. While down here, make sure to kill the Sky Fish patroller in front of an important-looking dashboard. Press the button to expose a door. Even though Shion can't access it now, Jr. can in a few minutes. EVENT - Jr.'s scenario continues. SEGMENT ADDRESS # 15 - Once you reach the save-point inside the subway, head to the upper-most turnstile, and head through it. Before entering the door, turn left, and blow up the debris in the way. Then, shoot the glass window. Now go back, enter the door, and run over to where the glass was just shattered. Now you can see that there's a Segment Address hiding inside. ITEM - SEGMENT ADDRESS # 15 - You are rewarded with the Angel Ring...Again, one of the most valuable accessories in the game. DECODER # 12 - Go through the door that Shion and chaos opened. The decoder is in the chest. EVENT - Shion's scenario continues. ITEM - In order to get the S. Carrot Juice item, you'll have to work your way through the forest area, and blow up the wooden bridge in the same area as Bunnie's house. Cross that bridge (near the Kobold), and enter the cave. On the other side of the cave is a carrot patch with 4 carrots. Pick up all 4. Now, go play the chase-game with Bunnie. It will take some time and practise to know when to run and beat him to the door of his house. - TAKE NOTE, however, the mechanics of the S. Carrot Juice before beating Bunnie at his own game. They will only spawn in groups of 4, if you have exactly 0 in your inventory. Once you defeat Bunnie, you can never play the game again. This means that once you beat Bunnie, however many S.Carrot Juice you have is how many you're stuck with when you beat him. The loophole is that if you have 0, you can go pick up 4 more, but you can never use them. If you're really picky, use this method. If you're happy having 1 ~ 3 in your inventory, then just beat him when you can. At this point, I don't know if the 4 S. Carrot Juice items will respawn if you defeat him with 0 in your inventory, leave the Encephalon, then re-enter the area later. It's safest to do it in one shot if you can. It's also good to point out that if you don't want to do this on your first run through the Encephalon (while the enemies provide a threat to your characters), you can just wait and come back later VIA EVS. DECODER # 3 - The decoder is your prize for defeating Bunnie at his racing game. ITEM - When fighting the Tiamat boss, make sure you steal the Revenge Power accessory from him. Once it's gone, it's gone for good. NOTE - To make this fight easier, hop into your A.G.W.S. with all three characters. Alternate between Guarding and W-ACT shooting with all of the A.G.W.S. When Tiamat is on his last 1000 HP, use single attacks on him until he's down to about 300 HP. Dock Jr. and have him finish off Tiamat. Jr.'s consciousness will be deleted from the fight, and he'll stop using the pilot KO, but he'll keep using the all-hitting attack. - Get Jr. back into his A.G.W.S., and use the W-ACT strategy to chip away at Tiamat's 1500 HP again. When he's down to about 800 HP, single-attack, and dock Shion when he reaches about 300 HP. Polish him off with a tech attack, and the fight is over. ============================[ Durandal: Again ]=============================== ---------------------------------[ 19.DAg ]----------------------------------- E-MAIL - cannot be missed----------[35 received and 8 responses][43 total] - The Encephalon map is live. +-Durandal Residential Area U.M.N. PLEASE, READ THE NEXT SECTION THOROUGHLY BEFORE PROCEEDING!!! =======================[ Kukai Foundation: Invasion ]========================= ---------------------------------[ 20.KFI ]----------------------------------- I'll start here by mentioning that all of the shops that were listed in the Durandal: Again section are exactly the same. What I find ironic is that you have access to all of them, even though there's an emergency situation, but when the characters were playing on the beach, nobody wanted us going anywhere. Weird. Regardless, for the sake of not boring you to tears with another 50 lines shop inventory, I'll just leave those shop lists in the last section. Also, take note that the "Our Treasure" Shop is closed, but there is an NPC that sells items with the same inventory list at the entrance to sector 26 & 27. Again, once you begin this section of gameplay, you are STUCK HERE, and all of the previous shops are temporarily unavailable, except for the Mayor's version of the Our Treasure Inn shop. +-Point Check-------------------------------------------------[ 20.Pnt ]-+ | | | This area is fairly tough, and the enemies do a wide array of status | | detriments and damage. | | | Take note that during this sequence you can obtain | | a Skill Upgrade S (x1), Ether Upgrade S (x1), and Tech Upgrade S (x2) | | | | SP Stock = 650 Pts. There are so many missables, it is ridiculously easy to screw up a perfect-save in here. ETHER CHECK - If you have not learned and transferred Shion's Boost I ability, use some of your EP Stock (except for the Upgrade Z items) to give her enough EP to learn it and transfer it to at LEAST 1 other party member (preferrably MOMO, since she'll be mandatory in the Gigas fight). I like to use chaos, since almost everything in the game is weak to his attacks. - Also, make sure Jr.'s Psycho Pocket is on MOMO and whomever else you'll be using to steal the Soul/Spirit armour combo with. As stated before, I like to use Shion because she'll have more Skills learned/Skill Points, or chaos because he is POWERFUL against the Gigas. DECODER # 13 - Get to the highest point on the roof of the 'Our Treasure Inn', and hold up and to the left (up and to the left) when descending. If you got far enough, you'll reach a tunnel on the western side of the rooftop. Enter and you'll end up on the roof of the bakery. The Decoder is in a chest. SEGMENT ADDRESS # 1 - On the roof of the Ironman bar, the Segment Address is on a ledge, behind some destructible debris. ITEM - SEGMENT ADDRESS # 1 - The Robot Head is yours! ANALYSIS - The first time you enter Sector 27 (the western half of Sector 26 & 27), there will be a very strange looking monster flying around near the Bakery. The Wyrm enemy will disappear once you leave this screen, regardless of whether you fought it or not. If you don't analyze it now, it's gone forever. Also, be careful when fighting it, as it will attempt to escape. If it escapes, it is also gone forever, and you don't even get a database entry. ANALYSIS - The Larva Doll enemies in Kukai transform into Larva Faces when killed. These are the only Larva Dolls in the game with this ability. The game tracks Larva Faces in the Database, so if you don't analyze them during the Kukai Invasion, they are gone for good. ANALYSIS - The Gel Fish are one-time only enemies in here. They do respawn, but once this section of gameplay is over, they disappear for good. ITEMS - Before taking on Gigas, make sure you defeat Mintia (yes, this will be insanely hard), and obtain MOMO's Dark Scepter (automatically granted when Mintia is defeated). During the fight, make sure you use Psycho Pocket to get the Penguin Rod and the Craft Apron from Mintia. TECH ATTACK - MOMO's Dark Scepter is obtained by defeating Mintia. Since we're at a point that will require us to use it to find a rare item, it's time to take her on. I will provide a boss strategy for your benefit, since I consider this 'mandatory' to a perfect file. To Find Mintia, turn the crank beside the entrance to the Ironman bar. This will lower a path to Mintia. Make MOMO your on-screen character, and enter the Our Treasure Inn. Go upstairs, and climb the ladder to reach the roof. Once you fall off the roof onto the scaffolding, hop onto the overhang over the entrance to Ironman, and start running Northeast (yeah, push up towards the wall, and to the right to ensure you don't fall off. Once you enter the room, the fight begins. Obviously, save your game beforehand. Oh, and keep 2 saves, one before you learn the skills, and one after, also, make sure you kept a save from before you were locked into the area. You may need to level-up slightly to be able to take on Mintia. NOTE - Equip your girls with the following items and skills. - Shion: Dex Guard, Ether Power D, EATK+2 Venom Block, Yamato Belt, Scope - KOS-MOS: Dex Guard, A-Poison Guard, EATK+2 Red Topaz, Commander's Crest, Double Buster - MOMO EATK+2, EDEF+2, EPMAX+15 Life Stone, Purple Ring, White Ring NOTE - Equip your girls with the following Ether spells. - Shion: Life Shot (1), Medica All (2), Boost I (2), Revert (2), Psycho Pocket (1), Ether Shift A (1), Ether Shift B (1) - KOS-MOS: Life Shot (1), Medica All (2), Boost I (2), Revert (2), Psycho Pocket (1), Ether Shift A (1), Ether Shift B (1) - MOMO: Life Shot (1), Medica All (2), Boost I (2), Revert (2), Psycho Pocket (1), Star Wind (2) - Start the fight with MOMO directly behind KOS-MOS in the middle of the battle formation, and Shion to the left of MOMO. Have all three girls cast Psycho Pocket until you have both the Craft Apron and Penguin Rod. In the case that the game is being stingy and you need to heal in-between, keep Shion and KOs-MOS on steal duty, and dedicate MOMO to healing. - As you can tell by the set-up, KOS-MOs is going to be our heavy hitter. Every round she can T + R-CANNON, and every second round she can T + R-CANNON + R-CANNON. Shion should be doing T + Spell Ray every time she can, but make her priority back-up heals and item- tossing. - Don't bother removing A-Poison from MOMO. She never attacks, so she'll never take damage from the poison. - If you can outlive most of Mintia's damage, try to dedicate a few turns to casting Boost I on everyone so that you have a contingency plan when things go wrong. Don't try to line up your turns with boosts, though. Mintia will throw a hissy fit whenever she feels like it and override your boosts with her own. Save them for when you know she's not about to boost, and you need the extra turn to heal. - Keep in mind that you never want to have FULL HP. Mintia will sap one character's current health - 1 point. If KOS-MOS has full HP, she can heal for up to 800 ~ 1000 points in one shot. Don't give her that opportunity. - So you're probably wondering why MOMO has the Life Stone...Simple. EP repair. The worst thing you can do is run out of EP, and the second-worst thing you can do is waste 2 peoples' turns getting the EP back. - Keeping Ether Shift B on your attackers will ensure the damage is decent, and if you find you're having trouble keeping up with heals, cast Ether Shift A to cut the damage by a fair margin. - With Mintia's status detriment attacks severely gimped, she will end up wasting turns trying to debilitate you (to no avail, WOOT!). The only things left to watch out for are her damaging spells, and Bibo's life drain. Occasionally, Shion will be knocked into the back row, but this can act as a blessing if she only has 4 AP when her next turn comes up; "Move" costs 2 AP, so when Shion gets another turn, she'll be ready to T,T + Spell Ray. - Towards the end of the fight, try to keep the girls at no more than 50% of their maximum HP (with the exception of MOMO). Mintia begins using her HP-Drain attack more often. - Kick her ass. ITEMS - When fighting Gigas, make sure MOMO and Shion have the Psycho Pocket Ethers. Make sure Shion has the White Ring equipped, and reset your game if you do not start with both females getting a turn before Gigas does. Use Psycho Pocket with both Shion and MOMO to get the Spirit and Soul armour. When Gigas splits, steal from each of the two new Gigases. When you're done, you should have 3 Souls and 3 Spirits. Now, defeat each Gigas on a Point Bonus slot, using MOMO's Dark Scepter. You should end the fight with 2 Diamonds on top of the aforementioned Swagger. - This may require a few resets to get it without any problems. NOTE - To make the Gigas fight easier, equip all 3 A.G.W.S. with Guard Cleaner and Guard Recovery items, and use them to tear through each Gigas' health. When they're very close to dying, have MOMO step out of her A.G.W.S. and alternate between guarding and using Dark Scepter. - If you can, take out the melee-based Gigas first. If you reduce the caster Gigas's HP to low amounts, he'll start casting instant-death spells on the party. With a partner boosting and melee-attacking you, the battle can become quite messy, quite quickly. Just have all three members disembark once the caster Gigas is alone and low on HP. You can have them alternating heal and revive spells until MOMO manages to bring the boss down. - If you have Misty with Jr. and he is in the party, have him cast it on the caster Gigas to disable him completely from the fight. If Jr. isn't in the party, but has enough E.Pts to transfer it, have him pass it over to Shion or chaos (or whoever MOMO'S partner in crime is). EVENT - Shion returns to the Durandal, goes back to Kukai, and returns to the Durandal again (bleh). MOMO goes missing. ITEM - SEGMENT ADDRESS # 12 - Crack open the door and MOMO's W-Hammer Rod is your reward. ITEM - Defeat the Rianon SE, but not before stealing the Boost Pack and Shield Armor. NOTE - To make this fight go really smooth, have Ziggy or KOS-MOS, packed with Healing Ethers, and any two capable A.G.W.S. pilots. After you have used two people to Psycho Pocket both items, get two members up in A.G.W.S. units. - Why 2 and not 3, you ask? Well, he steals a percentage of a party member's health as a counter-attack once in a while. The higher the HP, the higher the amount. So, with a decoy on the ground, who is capable of healing him/herself, your chance of letting him heal for up to 1000 HP gets cut down to 2/3rds. Considering the infrequency of this retaliation, W-ACT handguns dishing out over 700 damage every 2 turns will keep you well over the boss's healing curve. Better still is when the W-ACT crits for 1100 damage. EVENT - Shion and co. defeat Rianon SE, and exit the second tower. DECODER # 17 - In tower 3, at the very center of all of the balconies and ladders, is a sealed room. Get in there, by maneuvering around the Gnosis, and getting to the upper balcony on the west side, then dropping down the hole in the center balcony. You'll end up in the very center, and there will be a chest inside the balcony with the glass walls. The Decoder is in that chest. NOTE - To save you from checking another FAQ for this puzzle, just shoot the columns down so this many remains: - Red = 2 - Blue = 3 - Green = 5 EVENT - Shion and Co. enter the core of the Song of Nephilim. NOTE - To defeat Simeon easily, use the strategy I suggested for Rianon SE. Simeon is pretty cheap and predictable. He basically just attacks the exact same target over and over and over again with AIRD. - During this current playthrough, he basically did nothing but AIRD on chaos. Shion and Jr.'s A.G.W.S. stayed at full health the entire fight. NOTE - After the Simeon fight, I would suggest running back up to the save point, healing, and saving. ITEM - If you don't steal the Master's Pendant from Ein Rugel before s/he transforms into Doppelwogel, it's gone for good. ITEM - Make sure you steal the Gemini Clock and Samurai Heart from Doppelwogel. These items are also permanently gone after the fight. NOTE - Once again, use the same boss strategy as the previous two fights. If you have enough money kicking around, it may be wise to upgrade to the LM11-VX for the two VX model A.G.W.S. Keep the handguns on chaos' A.G.W.S., because the only upgrade right now is the HMR55AG, and the difference is negligible. Not only that, but the hammers can't reach Doppelwogel. - You may also want to bump up all 3 A.G.W.S. pilots' Ether Defense before starting up this fight. Once Doppelwogel casts anti-veil on himself, he attacks all 3 party members with a spell that will consistently out-damage your ability to heal with Guard Recovery. - Make sure your A.G.W.S. units all have Guard Recovery, Engine Shield, and Cockpit Guard as their accessories. EVENT - Ein Rugel and Doppelwogel are defeated. =========================[ Durandal: One Last Time ]========================== ---------------------------------[ 23.OLT ]----------------------------------- E-MAIL - cannot be missed----------[40 received and 8 responses][48 total] - KOS-MOS' R-DRAGON Tech is now available. ITEM - SEGMENT ADDRESS # 17 - Jr.'s BLOOD9 weapon is inside of this door. It's his ultimate weapon, so equip it and start blasting everything away. Couple this with the Bravesoul and toss a Hemlock on Jr. Watch him decimate anything -melee distance or ranged- in one round. ITEM - Proto Dora's Rare Item, the Fast Circuit 50, is the only of it's kind in the entire game. If you don't get it now, it's lost. DECODER # 6 - This decoder is dropped by Proto Dora. SEGMENT ADDRES # 6 - This Segment address is in the room after defeating Proto Dora, where there are 3 demons patrolling, and a sunken section in the center of the room. ITEM - SEGMENT ADDRESS # 6 - The Trauma Plate accessory is now yours. Wave goodbye to those pesky Critical Hits. This is probably one of the best accessories to have extracted and equipped during the final boss. ITEM - PM Card Q. THis is the Proto Dora card for the Xenocard minigame. There is some curiosity about this item. Some say it unlocks right after you beat Proto Dora. This is not true. It unlocks AFTER you've completed the elevator segment in which you fight several mandatory Armaros, Azazel, and Baraqijal enemies. Once you return to the ship, the card will be waiting for you in the Casino Prize Exchange. - Since every PM Card will be waiting for you in the Casino Exchange, I haven't even bothered noting when they become available. Frankly, I don't even know when each card becomes available, but because they never go missing, I haven't bothered taking note of it. THE LAST SAVE-FILE BEFORE THE BOSS!!! - There is no true 'point of no return' in this game anymore, because you can still leave Proto Merkabah. Just do yourself a favour. Make 2 or 3 copies of this save file. Perhaps save your game onboard the Elsa, so you have more options. - JUST. DON'T. SAVE. OVER. THIS. WITH. THE. CLEAR-DATA. - Once you beat the final boss, and view the ending, you will be asked to save your game for bonuses available in Xenosaga Episode II. Don't save over top of your perfect-file or you won't be able to access it at all. FINAL BOSSES - I'm not going to give out any strategies for this. Why? Because you're on your own now. You have everything you need, and you're at a point that gives you the freedom to do what you want. Having trouble? Spend that money on some more weapons and armour for your characters or A.G.W.S., or spend some time levelling up or stat-syncing. Enjoy the game. CONGRATULATIONS - You now have every missable item in your inventory. You may not have 99 of everything else, or 9999 Tech, Ether and Skill points, or all of your Techs at level 50, or +200 to all of your stats, and so on and so forth. But now you know you can safely stat-sync at any time without worrying that you missed something. - My suggestion? Get your stats to an even 100 (or 99), with about 2000 health. Retain some of that challenge, and don't even BOTHER levelling up your Tech Skills. Seriously, what's the point of having 30 different moves that do 9999 damage, regardless of their elemental property? It will cost millions of tech points, and it completely trivializes the point of rounding your stats up to nice, even numbers, or becoming godlike with 200+ to your stats. Since the highest-HP enemy in the game is Sophie Piethos with 16,000, you're not going to enjoy being uber for very long if you spam a 9999 damage move 3 times per turn, and wipe out everything that moves. - But, do what you want with your save-file. It's yours to enjoy, and what makes it 'perfect' is completely up to you. Keep the PM Cards in your inventory, or unwrap them and play the hell out of Xenocard; it doesn't matter, it's all yours. Have fun. ===========================[ Credits and Thanks ]============================= ---------------------------------[ 04.Thx ]----------------------------------- To Namco, for cleaning up all the issues I had with Xenogears, and creating what I think is the most solid, innovative, fun, and strategic RPG ever made : MonolithSoft Namco For the awesome site that's been helping gamers get through games for over 10 years : CJayC http://www.gamefaqs.com For the Ascii Title ( which I slightly altered to fit the 80 character limit ) : http://www.network-science.de/ascii/ Thanks to the Xenosaga Episode I Board, and it's few inhabitants for all the topics on missables throughout the ages.
