1.) Trademarks

Warriors Orochi 2 is a game of KOEI's making, and most likely still a
trademark of theirs.

2.) Legal Crap

Q: I see this FAQ on a certain site other than the ones you listed above.
Now what?
A: Tell me ASAP at [email protected]. There's a chance that the site in
question is one I've given permission, but I've yet to submit an updated FAQ
to reflect that. You can send me an e-mail anyhow, just to make sure.

Q: If I receive permission to host this FAQ, how may I post it to my site?
A: Preferably in its original plain text form. Changes can be made, within
reason (i.e., if it gets to the point where it's hard to read, you've done
a little too much modification).

(Note: This FAQ should _NEVER_ appear on megagames.com, gamesdomain.com,
or CNET Games Center. If you found it there, TELL ME. They tend to rip
off FAQs from what I've heard.)

Q: Where can I check for the latest version?
A: The sites noted above should be the only ones with my FAQ, and thus the
only ones that will get updated versions.

Q: So, can I host your FAQ?
A: Send an e-mail. I'll e-mail you back with an OK notice unless for some
reason I feel that it'd be inappropriate or nonsensical (e.g., I'd be a
touch confused if someone who has a fan site aimed towards first-person
shooter games asks me for permission to host my Xiahou Dun FAQ on said
site).

Q: Can I use this FAQ for any profitable means?
A: No. If it vaguely resembles profit or a reward, even only one penny,
no. Even if for some reason you want to send any or all profits from such
actions to me. This includes magazines/publishers of any kind.

Q: Can I use any info found in this FAQ to start my own?
A: Within reason. You can't completely copy my FAQ or change one or two
things and then call it your own. If you wish to use a part of my FAQ,
e-mail me and ask for permission. I will expect to be credited for any
information you use in your FAQ. I do as much for those I draw any info
or inspiration from, so I expect the same treatment from anyone who thinks
any of my information is worth using.

SPAM: I do not like Unsolicited Commercial E-Mail (UCE). If you send me
any UCE, I will ignore it. If you decide to press the issue, I'll continue
to ignore it.

(That last one wasn't a Q and A; I just don't much care for spam.)

3.) What is Warriors Orochi 2?

Warriors Orochi 2 (abbreviated as WO2) is KOEI's latest offering in the
genre of 3D beat-em-up, combining characters from the Dynasty Warriors
series with those of the Samurai Warriors series along with a few characters
based off of figures from Chinese and Japanese mythology.

4.) Who is Xiahou Dun?

Xiahou Dun is a part of the Wei army in the DW games, serving as one of Cao
Cao's first top generals alongside others like his brother (cousin?) Xiahou
Yuan and Zhang Liao. Known best as the guy who got shot by an arrow that
went into his eye, resulting in Dun eating said eye and retaliating by
putting a spear through the face of the man who shot him. He remains my
favorite Wei character, with others like Zhen Ji, Xu Huang, Cao Ren and Zhang
Liao following behind him. His move set has been tinkered with a bit; more on
that later.

-= Unlocking Xiahou Dun =-

Xiahou Dun will automatically join the Wei army after you complete Wei stage
2, along with Xiahou Yuan. This is a step up from WO1, where he didn't join
the list of usable characters until stage 4 of Wei's campaign.

-= Using Xiahou Dun =-

1.) Move Set

Some of these moves won't be available when you first gain access to Xiahou
Dun. You'll need to get his level up to 20 or so before the complete set is
available. Another note is that the button listings here assume that you're
playing the PS2 version of Warriors Orochi. Square (S) is your normal
attack button, Triangle (T) is your charge attack, X is your jump button,
etc.

i.) Standard

        S1 / S - A right to left slash with his weapon.
       S2 / SS - A left to right slash.
      S3 / SSS - A top to bottom slash.
S4 / SSSS - A spinning slash from left to right; identical to his C4
but without any weapon traits attached.
S5 / SSSSS - Another spinning slash that ends swinging a little higher
                 than his S4.
S6 / SSSSSS - Identical in appearance to his S1.
S7 / SSSSSSS - Identical in appearance to his S2.
S8 / SSSSSSSS - Identical in appearance to his S3.
S9 / SSSSSSSSS - Identical in appearance to his S4 but comes out at a
                 slower speed.
Dashing S - Hopping uppercut slash. It'll knock enemies into the air.
It is possible to juggle afterwards, but usually this will
                 require favorable terrain.
Jumping S - Right to left swing.

ii.) Charge

C1 / T - Charges forward then does a right to left slash. Pressing
T again during this move adds a left to right slash. Agility
doesn't have as much of an effect as compared to in WO1, nor
does it inherit any traits on your weapon.
C2 / ST - Does an uppercut slash that knocks enemies into the air.
Agility has no effect on the attack speed of this move, and
it is fairly slow as is.
C3 / SST - Does a string of vertical slashes, with the final slash
stunning the target. Pressing T extra times adds extra
slashes. Agility appears to have no effect on this move.
C4 / SSST - Does a spinning slash. Different from his S4 due to having
a knock back trait along with elemental inheritance from your
weapon. Agility improves the speed of this move.
C5 / SSSST - Slams his sword into the ground, creating a burst of energy
that knocks enemies into the air around him. Agility has an
effect on the speed of this move.
C6 / SSSSST - A left to right slash immediately followed by a right to
left slash. Agility has an effect on the speed of this move
and it's no longer a case where you have to stop at Agility 5
in order to get both hits to connect consistently.
Jumping T - Multiple aerial slashes; can only get all of the slashes
if there's an enemy to swat around, otherwise Dun stops after
two slashes. Agility does nothing to affect the speed of his
slashes. Seemingly does more damage than in WO1 along with
having a better 'pick up' range when it comes to snatching
someone off of the ground and up into the air.

iii.) Special

- An important thing to note is that Dun can no longer link his two R1 moves
together, although the ability to link them onto the end of standard and
charge attacks remains unchanged (as far as I know).

R1 - A whirlwind attack (looks more like a sandstorm to me) that normally
moves for a short distance in whichever direction you're facing. It's not
bad for scattering peons in a pinch, although it not inheriting weapon traits
means that it can be blocked.

L + R1 - Dun turns into a human torpedo, diving in whatever direction you
aim him with a buffer of energy around his body that has a decent horizontal
area of effect. It still grants 'invincibility', although there remains
cases where Dun gets knocked out of this move in the face of oncoming arrows
and bullets where as he usually will fly through with no ill effects.

Musou - A series of uppercut slashes that ends with a knock back slash. Do
not use this unless in case of an emergency.

True Musou - Similar to his Musou, except he ends with a shockwave nova and
a hybrid stomp/slash after the knock back slash. Don't use this outside of
emergency situations either.

iv.) Horse

S - Up to six attacks alternating sides.
T - Standard DW horse stomp.
Musou - Multiple slashes, much like the standard attack string.

2.) Combos

C1 -> L + R1 - The changes to C1 really hurt the viability of this combo,
but it's still a fairly reliable way to juke archers and riflemen at the
least. Due to how far away you can activate C1 and still get a hit, you can
still mess with aggressive (non Power) generals and hit them out of whatever
they try attacking you with. It seems like L + R1 does more damage than C1
does now, and not many enemies block it from what I've seen, even if they
blocked the C1.

C1 -> X -> T - One of the easiest ways to guarantee that his jumping charge
attack lands, since a C1 all by itself will cause enemies to stagger, and the
jumping charge sucks them into the air for mass slashing. The lack of traits
from your weapon applying to the C1 hurts the overall damage output though.

C6 -> X -> T - C6 on its own can do a lot of damage.  Adding the jumping
charge to the end can finish the job on stubborn generals.

C4 -> L + R1 -> L + R1 - Usually only works if the enemy general doesn't
flip out after the first L + R1 or if they get knocked into a wall or corner.
Still, when it works it sure does look flashy.

C4 -> C6 - Without Multi sometimes a general falls to the ground before the
first hit of the C6 connects, and other times it'll land which results in
huge damage (or death) to whatever general you're focusing on. So, slap
Multi onto your weapon to keep your odds of landing both the C4 and C6 up
around 100%.

C6 -> C6 -> ... - With Multi this is easy to pull off; you just keep using
Dun's C6 until the officer(s) you're juggling stop living. Sometimes you
will only get one of the two hits on C6, but you'll have no problems keeping
the juggle alive. If an officer is able to tech jump, throw in a L + R1 and
see if you can chase them down to start killing them again. You can loop C4
into itself as well, which is good for when you haven't yet gotten Resolve
or Stability on Dun's weapon. It'll come out quicker than C6 which means
fewer opportunities to be interrupted by a bullet, arrow or spear poke.

3.) Advised Weapon Outfitting

My advised weapon of choice has the following required traits:

- Bolt
- Flash
- Slay
- Range
- Agility
- Might

After those six, you can't really go wrong with two of the following in the
last slots:

- Drain
- Air
- Brave
- Multi

i.) Why Certain Traits Are Missing

Well to be honest, any of the other traits are either counter-productive to
my style of play (Ice and Fire) or they're outright bad choices to have on my
weapon (Rage, Absorb). Ice freezes enemies. I like bouncing enemies into
the air and knocking them around, so welding them to the ground in a block of
ice is not going to be something I want to happen. Fire isn't a bad choice,
but I feel that Bolt adds so much more to Dun's arsenal.

Rage requires I be nearly dead to get great use out of it, and that's not an
option I'm fond of on Hard and Chaos difficulty. Xiahou Dun only has one
move that makes use of Musou, and it's not good enough to warrant having
Absorb on a weapon, since his other options of escape and knock back are that
much better.

ii.) Why Certain Traits AREN'T Missing

FLASH is still really, really good. It no longer means that C1 ignores even
the most block-happy of generals, but it still means that C6 will do its job
no matter what. AGILITY remains good because all of his good charge attacks
benefit from it (C4, C6). SLAY is a great trait to have on any weapon and
can quickly get fleshy flak in the shape of peons out of the way of Dun and
his target officer. MIGHT and RANGE are good traits that make for an all
around weapon; Might for obvious reasons and Range because Dun's main attacks
involve his weapon which in turn means Range makes them better. BOLT is a
solid pick for just about every character in the game, and it certainly has
its uses with Dun's ability to hit multiple targets every few seconds.

Brave and Air are a tossup for me; Air adds a good bit of damage to loops of
C6 and C4, while Brave adds a good bit too when in tandem with Might (but
only to officers of course). You can't go wrong with either one, although I
go with Brave nowadays. Drain isn't necessary since Dun's not as prone to
taking large chunks of damage per hit as he was in WO1, but it's still a
sentimental favorite of mine. Multi makes C6 a wondrous thing to behold, so
tack it on if you want extra power when you're hunting for officer pelts.
For now, I'm slightly more comfortable with Drain and Brave as the last two
traits on my weapon of choice, although Multi is definitely gaining ground
as a replacement for Drain.

iii.) Enchantments of Choice

- Evasion
- Stability
- Resolve
- Almighty

Evasion is one you can add if you want to further reduce the amount of damage
Dun takes whenever he gets hit. Stability is nice since it means you can
wade through charge attacks (but not normal attacks), which ends up meaning
fewer interruptions when using C4 and/or C6. Resolve is nice for the same
general reason; fewer types of attacks that will stagger/stun you means there
are fewer instances where you get knocked out of a C4 or C6. Almighty is a
bit cheesy, but it works well with Dun. He has almost no use for his musou
gauge so it'll be full 99% of the time. That means that you'll almost always
be able to run around reliving part of his glory days from WO1 (i.e., C1
regains elements). It won't turn it back into a tool of death like in WO1,
but it makes it such that C4 and C6 won't be the only ways to deal damage.

4.) Advised Attributes/Abilities

I'm fond of using Vitality, Potence, Fortitude, Speed, Boost and Adrenalin,
with the last slot being situational. Vitality is always good for giving
yourself more room for miscues. Potence means stronger hits which leads to
fewer living enemies. Fortitude means even more room for error. Speed adds
more damage for Dun, and Boost adds damage to all charge attacks regardless
of character type. Adrenalin means that every time Dun reaches 10+ hits, it
gives him health. Given that C1 -> L + R1 is usually good for as much in a
crowd, Dun doesn't need to rely on Drain and the like to keep his health up.

Impulse used to be on the short list, but Sun Wukong removes the need for
Impulse and for horses (i.e., no Cavalier). If I'm dedicated to using my
entire team on the current level, I'll exchange Adrenalin for something like
Technique, Power or Conserve to go alongside whatever I had in the seventh
slot. If Cao Ren is along for the ride (and he usually is; either him or
Ginchiyo Tachibana with Sun Wukong as my third), that means the sixth and
seventh slots tend to have Technique and Conserve.

-= Battle Advice =-

1.) Move Set Analysis

C1 - Now that it no longer inherits weapon traits (unless you use Almighty),
it's not that great of a tool to use. It's not terrible... but you're
really better off with C4 and C6 now.

C2 - This has limited utility. Dun's dashing S knocks enemies into the air
almost as well as this does, and it doesn't take as long. C1 has the same
purpose on its own; crumpling an enemy leaves them just as defenseless.

C3 - I almost never use this. The stunning property on the last hit can
still be reproduced via C1, and the damage is rather lacking; a full C3
string takes longer and does less damage than C4.

C4 - This is a solid knock back tool. It comes out rather fast with enough
Agility, and the damage is respectable as well.

C5 - This is better than his C2, but it's still not something I find myself
using on purpose (e.g., I tend to use this only when I mistimed a C4).

C6 - With the downfall of C1 and some fixes to how Agility affects this move,
it's my new 'kill everything fast' tool of choice. Slap a Range 10 onto
Dun's weapon and this can wipe out gobs of peons in a flash. It can easily
turn into an infinite when looped upon itself once you get the right traits
attached to Dun's weapon as well, and the timing is very gracious.

R1 - A solid attack that flies out in whatever direction you're facing. It
has a decent vertical and horizontal range, but since it doesn't normally
trigger weapon traits, you can't make it into an unblockable wall of damage
by way of the Flash element. Still, this works as a combo ender or even a
combo starter since on its own it crumples enemies just like C1.

L + R1 - A very important attack; whenever you're looking for a quick way
to trigger crowd clearing (occasionally crowd killing), this is easily the
tool of choice. It has invincibility, so it works wonders for getting away
from a crowd even when they're trying to keep you from escaping. With good
reflexes, you can use it to avoid incoming fire from enemy archers and
riflemen. Like with R1 though, weapon traits like Flash and Bolt won't
trigger without having Almighty attached, so the damage of this attack on
its own is a little lacking.

2.) General Procedure

This usually goes without saying, but always try to keep your enemies in
front of you. C6 will deal with clusters of enemies while keeping you safe
from retaliation. L + R1's invincibility gives Dun the option of flying
headlong into a cluster of enemy generals and troops, but make sure you make
your suicide dive count, because he has no invincible escape option out of
that cluster aside from another L + R1 or his Musou attack. Generally,
battle tactics boil down to "Are there fleshy things to hit with C6? If so,
then fire away. If not, then look for fleshy things to hit with C6." Make
good use of his air dash and R1 techniques to keep the enemy army honest (or
to keep archers and riflemen from plinking away at will).

3.) Difficulty and You

There's not much to say here; on Hard and Chaos, you won't be able to lazily
throw out attack strings. You'll need to know when you can make use of C6
safely, and when to back off or air dash away until you can get your targets
safely clustered together. Knowing how to avoid incoming projectiles and
knowing when you're close enough to turn that evasion into an immediate
counterattack is also key.

4.) Advised Teammates

In general, Dun works well with anyone who has at least two of the following
traits:

- A Technique character with an inexpensive counter and/or special attack.
Cao Ren is a good example of such a character.
- A Power character with a solid special attack and/or move set. Ginchiyo
Tachibana, Zhang Liao and Kenshin are good examples of such characters.
- Any character with an ability and weapon trait lineup designed to absorb
punishment and stay out in the heat of battle for an extended period of time.
Sometimes Dun will get beat up and whoever you switch out to will need to be
able to hold their own until Dun recuperates to a point where he can come
out and fight again. Cao Ren and Kunoichi are good examples of characters
who can fight for extended periods of time, or at the very least play keep
away long enough for Dun to recover (Kunoichi, although she's more than able
to kill quickly as well).

-= Unlocking Xiahou Dun's Potential =-

1.) Acquiring His Abilities

All four abilities that you can unlock with Xiahou Dun do not require you
to play on a certain difficulty. You can kill three officers on Easy or
kill them on Chaos, and you'll unlock another level of Vitality. That
said:

i.) Vitality

Defeat three officers. Bonus HP is always nice.

ii.) Adrenalin

Defeat three officers while staying at or above 30% life. After you unlock
the ability your life level can dip as low as you want and the game still
recognizes that you completed your objective. More life restored with
every 10+ hit combo never hurts, given that Dun is good at burst combos
with the press of a button.

iii.) Technique

Defeat 100 enemies while staying at or above 50% life. Like with Adrenalin,
you can drop below 50% after you've gotten this skill, but don't die. This
skill has no benefit for Dun given that he's a Speed character, but some
of his best allies are Technique characters. So go ahead and get it so that
you make Cao Ren and others sharing his character type happy campers.

iv.) Potence

Defeat 180 enemies, including six officers. Bonus attack power is nice and
a useful trait for every character in the game.

2.) Utilizing His Strategy

Xiahou Dun has the Face Off strategy, which means that after he defeats 300
enemies, the damage done to all allied officers is reduced. Starting out
this will take a while to trigger, but after he has a good weapon and some
levels under his belt, Dun will hit that 300 mark within minutes.

-= Miscellaneous =-

1.) Quotes and Dialogue

1.) Basic Quotes

These are specific to Dun when he's an ally and you're not controlling one of
the characters he considers an ally (anyone aside from Masamune Date, Xiahou
Yuan, etc) or when he's an enemy and you're not controlling a character he's
a rival with (anyone aside from Masamune, Guan Yu, etc).

Character Selection: "Step aside!"
Switching: "Stand back!"
L + R1: "Take this!"
C4: "You're finished!"
Musou attack: "Begone!"
True Musou attack: "It's over!"
Officer defeat: "Just another victim!"
Strategy: "There is no one this blade cannot cut down!"
1,000 KOs: "Today, we have proven our might to the world!"
Greeting (as enemy): "Do you wish to test the edge of my blade?"
Defeated (as enemy): "I misjudged this foe..."
Slain (as enemy): "I so wanted to see a land under Cao Cao's rule..."

-= As An Ally =-

"Now's our chance! Press the attack!", praise from Dun as an ally after you
have gathered some multiple of 100 kills

"Such remarkable skill...", praise from Dun after you defeat an officer

"Pretty impressive. I've got my work cut out for me!", more praise from Dun
after you defeat an officer

"So this is to be my final resting place...?", quote from Dun as an ally
when he's in danger of being routed

"Support is here at last... Launch the counterattack!", quote from Dun as
an ally when you come to his rescue

"Reinforcements? Just in time!", another quote from Dun as an ally when you
come to his rescue

"Your greatness has been firmly established this day!", praise from Dun after
you gather 1,000 KOs

"You are surely the finest warrior of your land.", more praise from Dun after
you gather 1,000 KOs

ii.) Specialized Quotes

Stage-specific Dialogue
-----------------------

-= Wei 1 =-

No interactions that I've seen. Avoiding the ambush, walking into it, having
a talk with Dong Zhuo and Sun Wukong... none of these result in Dun having
anything to say. It's possible that Dun has a line for after the stage ends
in regards to Kunoichi showing up out of nowhere, but I didn't see it during
any of the runs through this stage I did during the original trip through the
campaign nor any of the extra runs in order to clear it under all four of the
difficulties.

-= Wei 2 =-

A note that all Dun-related dialogue here is said by the CPU Dun; none of it
triggers off of when you're controlling Dun.

"Ugh, getting pretty full of yourselves, aren't you?", Dun not long after the
stage starts, followed by Cao Cao noting that Lu Bu fights like a wild animal
and how no matter how fierce a beast, it will still fall prey to a trap

Dun: "I will slay any who stand in the way of our conquest!"
Yuan: "Just hold out a little longer, Dun..."

Dun: "Argh, things are getting rough."
Yuan: "Not much longer now..."

These two pop up as Dun starts taking damage from enemy forces before the
fire attack succeeds. If he says the second, get Yuan to the fire attack
site ASAP, because there's no third message short of "Xiahou Dun has been
routed by *enemy officer*!". On Chaos, you WILL see at least the first
message unless you rush up the center and kill the enemy officers right
off the bat. On Easy and Normal, you'd have to sit in the main camp in
order to see the first message and even then it'll take several minutes.

Kunoichi: "Umm, you wouldn't mind hurrying things up, would you? A gal can
only keep going for so long."
Dun: "Hold a little longer! We've got a little something up our sleeves!"

This is for when Kunoichi starts to take damage before the fire attack
succeeds. I'm not sure if there's a second message like with Dun, since he
always ends up dying before Kunoichi ever gets low enough for that to occur,
meaning that the fire attack is canceled and the stage turns into a giant
melee.

"Yuan, way to brighten up the party! Now we can finally take care of Lu Bu.
Move out!", Dun after Yuan's fire attack succeeds

Diao Chan: "My lord fights honorably with his strength alone. You are not
fit to face him."
Dun: "Stupid girl... those are the kinds of fights I excel at!"

An exchange that the two have when Dun runs into her. Just another example
of Diao Chan showing her loyalty to Lu Bu and Dun being his usual 'Stop
talking already; I'm here to slice peons to ribbons!' self.

Lu Bu: "Insignificant worms! I'll grind your puny carcasses into the earth!"
Dun: "Silence! I will bury you under the pavestones of our road to glory!"

A bit of banter that Lu Bu has with Dun when they get into battle with each
other at the end of the stage. More dialogue that is in line with how these
two usually act.

Dun: "As always, your plan was infallible, my lord."
Yuan: "Did you see the look on Lu Bu's face? That was priceless!"
Cao Cao: "No matter how brilliant a plan I devise, without men to execute it,
it is as useless as a mule with a spinning wheel. You two are among the few
I can rely on. Can I count on your continued loyalty?"

The conversation that Dun, Yuan and Cao Cao have after you have completed the
stage. The rest segues into Nu Wa's hidden agenda and what Cao Cao's next
course of action is (recruit Yuan Shao). When Cao Cao is talking about
needing as many allies as possible, the text after that is 'random' in the
sense that after you beat the Wei campaign there is more than one character
who offers their opinion. One of the characters who does so happens to be:

Dun: "A true hero of these troubled times. In a crisis, there is no one that
comes close."

-= Wei 3 =-

Dun: "If you want to live, join our cause. Now!"
Yuan Shao: "How dare you speak to me like that, you ignorant swine?"

Yuan Shao's not too fond of Dun's blunt way of expressing things, it seems.
Just get to the end of the stage and have Dun start attacking Santa Yuan to
trigger this exchange. This appears to be the only instance where Dun has
anything to offer; he ignores Jiang Wei when the two cross paths.

-= Wei 4 =-

Sima Yi: "Wei... my former home. I shall destroy them utterly!"
Dun: "Filthy traitor! My blade longs for your blood!"

Dun is naturally less than pleased with Sima Yi being proud of turning his
back on the Wei army. This too appears to be Dun's only interaction on the
stage. It's looking like Dun is one who only has a lot of dialogue in Wei
stages where he shows up naturally.

-= Wei 5 =-

Sun Wukong: "Yeehaa! Time to paint the town red! And I'm fresh outta
paint!"
Dun: "My lord's road to glory will not be polluted by your filthy presence!"

Sun Wukong being his usual lighthearted (if violent) self, with Dun offering
a reply in the only way he knows how: more praise towards Cao Cao and scorn
towards those who would stop him.

-= Wei 6 =-

Da Ji: "All right then, which of you wants to get it first?"
Dun: "I have no need for you! Where has Himiko gone?"

Dun immediately getting right to the point as usual.

"We don't have time to waste listening to this rubbish! We need to
chase down that Himiko!", Dun's contribution after the battle has ended and
in response to Da Ji taunting Jiang Wei about Himiko getting away

Cao Cao: "Xiahou Dun! Take the cavalry and head to Tong Gate at once!"
Dun: "I am thankful that you've entrusted such an important task to me, my
lord!"

This is near the end of the after stage banter, where Cao Cao puts Dun in
charge of the force intended to hunt down the fleeing Himiko. Dun is ever
humble (and quite the suck up) towards his lord as usual.

-= Wei 7 =-

"Kiyomori... so he intends to buy enough time for Himiko to get to Orochi...
This means that he's Orochi's servant... I don't have time to wait for Lord
Cao Cao. Kiyomori... Clear this path... or your blood shall end up as rust
on my blade!", Dun's speech before the stage starts

"Even you, Kiyomori, can't hold me back!", Dun's quote as the stage starts

"Out of my way! I have no patience for incompetent weaklings.", what Dun
has to say upon running into Kiyomori Taira

Kiyomori Taira: "Thoughtless animals... you have fallen right into my trap.
Brave you may be, but a brave fool is a fool nonetheless."
Dun: "Kiyomori... I will pay you back ten-fold for this!"

Dun's not all that happy about being played for a fool by Kiyomori. Triggers
the moment that you defeat Kiyomori at the start or once Kiyomori retreats,
and it doesn't require that Dun is the one who does the killing.

Nobunaga Oda: "This battle is of great significance... the Demon King will
join the fray. Advance, and cut down any who stand in your path."
Dun: "Even Nobunaga has responded to Cao Cao's appeal... This is a battle
against time. Rally the armies and let's go meet our destinies!"

This shows up right around the time that Nobunaga and his men appear. Dun's
a little surprised to see Nobunaga show up, to say the least.

Dun: "Nobunaga, allow me to thank you in place of my lord."
Nobunaga Oda: "It was not your lord who brought me here, but your courage."

A short interaction that triggers when Dun runs into Nobunaga.

Kiyomori Taira: "I will pass the time until Orochi is whole by slowly
watching as you die."
Dun: "Cease your hollow prattling! I'll soon send you back to the nether-
world that spat you out."

The exchange that these two have when Dun runs into Kiyomori again.

Dun: "Orochi has been reawakened at Guan Du! Is this the time to be drinking
with Nobunaga?"
Katsuie Shibata: "They didn't just exchange cups... They also exchanged the
will and desire to defeat Orochi. And that will is already beginning to take
shape. Look, my lord and Lord Cao Cao have already left to prepare for the
coming battles."
Dun: "Cao Cao... why must he do such things? Just make sure he does his
part..."

-= Wei 8 =-

Keiji Maeda: "If you can't get past me, you've got no chance of stopping
Orochi."
Dun: "I'll cut you and Orochi in half with one stroke!"

Confront Keiji and he and Dun will have that little exchange.

Shin Orochi: "Come, show the Serpent King your true strength."
Dun: "No one can stop my lord's path to glory. Not even you, Serpent King!"

The final confrontation to be had in Wei's campaign. Finish him off and get
the stage over with.

-= Orochi 6 =-

Xiahou Dun: "My lord's road to conquest is not so fragile that a fool like
you could damage it!"
Masamune Date: "Silence, worm! Only the are truly strong are fit to make
such judgments!"
Dun: "Do you truly believe that? Surrendering the world to Orochi would be
the end of this world!"

Confront Dun for this piece of dialogue. Masamune doesn't have to be the
active character; just having him in the group is enough. Without Masamune,
Dun won't say any more than the first line, even if you're using...

Xiahou Dun: "My lord's road to conquest is not so fragile that a fool like
you could damage it!"
Guan Yu: "If you desire to protect the Wei dynasty, you will have to defeat
me to do it."

...this guy. Guan Yu is the only other character who has something to say
in response to Dun during this stage though.

-= Dream 1: Battle of Osaka Castle =-

Xiahou Dun: "My lord, I'm ashamed that I was allowed to be beaten to the
front by you."
Cao Cao: "Nonsense. I can only move with such confidence because I know
that you are here."

Once Dun shows up, meet up with him for this piece of dialogue.

-= Dream 2: Battle of Fan Castle =-

Cao Cao: "Xiahou Dun! Guan Yu! Focus your efforts on the enemy's central
forces!"
Guan Yu: "I will accomplish this task, you have my word."
Xiahou Dun: "Ha.. I am more than enough on my own. But if my lord wishes
it so..."

Early on in the stage this exchange occurs, so make sure your allies in the
general area don't get in too much trouble once Guan Yu and Xiahou Dun move
out.

Guan Yu: "Urgh.. what are those things? Still, no matter what they throw at
me, I must keep my word."
Xiahou Dun: "Cowards! Why must you rely on such dirty tricks?"

Guan Yu and Dun's reaction when the rifle unit in the central garrison shows
up. Usually Mitsuhide Akechi will be there with Ittetsu Inaba, so they can
keep Dun and Guan Yu preoccupied.

Xiahou Dun: "Hmph.. They may be mighty enough to pose a threat to my
lord's plans.."

Defeat Dun and he'll have this to say. Beating him as Nobunaga doesn't make
a difference; he says his when he loses to Hideyoshi or Ieyasu as well.

-= Dream 5: Battle of Mount Qi =-

Xiahou Dun: "With our help, victory is assured."

Once you rescue Yoshitsune Minamoto he'll temporarily retreat. Once he
returns with reinforcements, one of them ends up being Dun.

Guan Yu: "Xiahou Dun, I'm surprised to see you here."
Dun: "Ha.. I'm only here to show how much better than you I am."

Approach Dun and he'll offer this quip, even if Guan Yu isn't your lead
character.

-= Dream 6: Showdown at Odawara Castle =-

Lu Meng: "It's a strange feeling to be able to fight alongside the famous
Guan Yu."
Guan Yu: "Xiahou Dun! Lu Meng! This is your chance to make a name for
yourselves!"
Dun: "Cao Cao may want him here.. but he is nothing more than a hindrance
to me."
Lu Meng: "Come now! Me mustn't fight amongst ourselves before we fight
the enemy!"
Dun: "Who's fighting? I'm just worried he'll take all of the enemies."

The exchange the three have before the stage starts.

Keiji Maeda: "That was something else... You guys really know what you're
doing..."
Dun: "Ha... no need to state the obvious."

Defeat Keiji and he'll have this to say.

Liu Chan: "M-my lord.. I thought it was all over!"
Guan Yu: "Rest assured! From here on I will stand with you!"
Lu Meng: "Reinforcements are supposed to be arriving from the south any
time now."
Xiahou Dun: "We'll protect you until they arrive! Let's go!"

Rescue Liu Chan to get this chain of dialogue.

Guan Yu: "If there's an obstacle in your way, the only option is to destroy
it and move on."
Dun: "Hmm... you weren't so tough after all."

Get Liu Chan far enough so that Sakon Shima starts his ambush for this.

Dun: "I have come to the rescue. Take heart, comrades!"

After you get close to the retreat point for Liu Chan, Dun will inspire Sun
Qian and Wu Lan and raise their morale with this message.

Magoichi Saika: "Magoichi Saika is here! Does that sound heroic or what?"
Dun: "Move! If you value your life, that is..."

Confront Magoichi once he ambushes Liu Chan.

Dun: "Oh, so you're here too?"

Once Xiahou Ba arrives, Dun will have this to say.

Guan Yu: "Liu Chan is safe. My heartfelt thanks to you both!"
Dun: "We were comrades today by circumstance. We may well be enemies by
tomorrow."
Lu Meng: "But, by fighting together, we learned much from each other."
Guan Yu: "I'm sure we will meet on the battlefield again. Farewell!"

Complete the stage and the three will have this conversation.

-= Dream 15: Battle of Han Sui =-

Xiahou Dun: "Cao Pi! Would you like to see what it's like to fight your
father? First, you must defeat me to prove yourself worthy!"

After Dun says this, you're prompted to run through him, Xiahou Yuan and
Zhang Liao as Cao Pi.

Dun: "Hmph.. Well done, boy."

Defeat Dun as Cao Pi and he'll have this to say.

2.) History

  October 3rd, 2008: I start work on v1.0 of Dun's WO2 FAQ.
October 19th, 2008: v1.0 is finished; work on v1.1 begins.
October 23rd, 2008: v1.1 is finished; minor error fixes and extra quotes in
relation to what Dun has to say when he's an enemy as
                      opposed to an ally.
November 1st, 2008: v1.11 is finished; more minor quote additions, such as
interactions Dun has after certain Wei stages, along
with what Kunoichi has to say after Dun collects 1,000
                      KOs.
November 13th, 2008: v1.12 is finished; minor fixes here and there, which
includes a correction as to what Stability does and
does not do (no pretending to be a Power character for
                      Dun).
December 23rd, 2008: v1.2 is finished; mostly additions to the dialogue
section (Wei stages, Dream stages, Orochi 6), along
with a little bit of updating as to my favorite traits
and enchantments to slap on Dun's weapon. This is most
likely the final 'big' update, with v1.21 having the
removal of errors found by me or by a reader, along
with the rest of Dun's interactions with certain allies
                      and enemies.
December 31st, 2008: v1.21 is started, with additions to Dun's Orochi 6
dialogue (interactions with Guan Yu and Masamune Date)
                      and his Dream 5 dialogue.
January 17th, 2009: v1.21 is finished; all character-specific dialogue that
I can think of has been covered, as is all non-random
story mode dialogue and dream mode dialogue. Any bits
that I missed or left with typos will hopefully be seen
                      and reported by a reader.
