If you want to smack people around and blow the crap out of them with assorted cannon shots and a FRICKING QUAD LASER BEAM, Ieyasu is your man. His fun variety of slash slash boom boom attacks will serve you well from the beginning up through chaos mode. Plus, he wears a silly hat. =============================================================================== 2) Unlocking Ieyasu Tokugawa =============================================================================== Ieyasu Tokugawa is a starting character in the Wu storyline. =============================================================================== 3) Move Set =============================================================================== This is Ieyasu's full attack string. Some moves may not be available if he isn't leveled up enough. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Standard Attacks ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- S Left to right swing. SS Right to left swing. SSS Left to right swing. SSSS Straight ahead poke. SSSSS Right to left swing. SSSSSS Left to right swing. SSSSSSS Right to left swing. S8 - S12 Cannon shot. Dash attack Lunging right to left swing. Jump attack Downward cannon shot. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Charge Attacks ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- C3, C4, C5, C6, C7, and C8 activate weapon attributes. ________________________________________ C1 / T Ieyasu aims his cannon at the ground and fires, producing a blast with a small area of effect. C2 / ST Spear uppercut. C3 / SST Single close-range cannon blast. C4 / SSST Horizontal spear swipe. C5 / SSSST Three cannonballs shot at an upward angle. Launches enemies. C6 / SSSSST Ieyasu shoots his cannon at the ground, puffing out a large white cloud that stuns enemies. C7 / SSSSSST A fat green long range energy beam. C8 / SSSSSSST Ieyasu rotates and sprays flame out of his cannon. Jump + T Downward stab. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Special Attacks ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- R1 Ieyasu shoulders his boomstick and unleashes a ginormous laser beam. Musou A series of cannonball shots and a shockwave ender. True musou As above, plus a nifty introductory splash screen. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Horse Attacks ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- S string Up to 3 slashes followed by 5 cannon shots (8 attacks total). C2 / ST Spear uppercut. C3 / SST Cannonball shot. Stuns enemies. C4 / SSST Flamethrower spray. T Horse stomp. =============================================================================== 4) Getting Equipped =============================================================================== Recommended Weapon Attributes ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The first five attributes should be as follows. Bolt Continues combos, stuns enemies, keeps launched baddies nearby for more punishment. Slay Too useful not to include. Agility Because it doesn't bug any of Ieyasu's charges, why not? Flash Guard busting is a necessity on higher difficulties. Might Cranks up attack power. ________________________________________ For the last slots, choose from the following depending on how you plan to play Ieyasu and whether you want to emphasize endurance or attack strength. Drain Restores health. Fills efficiently with C4. Multi Bring on the gundam army of pain. Increases C4 damage. Brave For more anti-officer oomph. Ice Non-frozen enemies will fly away from Ieyasu's death beam before it finishes. Ice keeps them stuck in place for the full duration. It is also nice for safety in dense crowds. Air If you like to juggle with charge attacks. ________________________________________ I don't suggest Absorb. Ieyasu uses musou infrequently, and that weapon slot would be better reserved for attack boosting or health restoration. If Ieyasu will be fighting for long periods of time without musou recovery from drops or team switching, he should equip abilities to lengthen or refill his musou gauge. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Recommended Abilities ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Regardless of setup, these five are essential. Impulse Slow and steady may win the race, but more foot speed is always helpful. Fortitude Even tough guys can use more defense, especially on high difficulty. Power Jacks up Ieyasu's attack power, including the amperage of the laser cannon. Boost Makes perfect sense for a character reliant on charge attacks. Potence It always hurts to hit extra hard. Har har har. ________________________________________ Consider any of the following depending on your play style and the rest of Ieyasu's setup. Conserve Decreases the cost of musou-consuming attacks. Awakening Pumps up any musou-consuming attack. The bonus stacks on top of everything else related. Adrenalin When running solo on high difficulty without Drain. The increased attack power of a Drain-less weapon may be a worthwhile tradeoff for an ability slot. Don't forget to break your combos periodically because Adrenalin only fills once when you hit 10. Focus Lengthens the musou bar. Refill Restores a chunk of musou every several seconds. Of limited use until it reaches max level. Vitality More health comes in handy. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Recommended Setups ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Ieyasu can work well with a variety of weapon and ability setups depending on how he will be played and how health and musou will be restored. If you plan to swap out or pick up recovery drops, you may wish to omit health and musou replenishment in favor of more attack power. To Ice or not? Depends on whether you prefer a chance of swift officer death or more steady damage from charge attacks. For self-replenishment with minimal dependence on recovery drops, I suggest any of the following. Endurance-Focused ------------------------------------------------------------ Good to start with because it offers more room for error. Weapon Bolt / Flash / Slay / Drain / Multi / Agility / Might / Ice or Air Abilities Impulse / Fortitude / Power / Boost / Potence / Vitality / Refill Attack Power Max ------------------------------------------------------------- As you improve at avoiding damage with Ieyasu, drop Drain in favor of Adrenalin. You will be getting hit infrequently, so there will be little concern about breaking combos to survive. Vitality becomes optional with practice and high character level. Weapon Bolt / Flash / Slay / Brave / Multi / Agility / Might / Ice or Air Abilities Impulse / Fortitude / Power / Boost / Potence / Adrenalin / Vitality or Refill =============================================================================== 5) Battle Advice =============================================================================== For examples of how to play Ieyasu, I recommend calbee219's videos made for the Warriors Orochi solo chaos tier list evaluation. http://www.youtube.com/DW5chaosmodeguide ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- General Fighting Notes ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- As his tag line says, Ieyasu's style is slow and steady. His laser attack will quickly demolish frozen officers, but he generally works through enemies at a measured pace. When enemies are close, rely on C4. Time Ieyasu's blast charges to interrupt incoming foes. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Move Set Analysis ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Ieyasu's S string offers a mix of melee attacks and long-range blasts. Apart from the straight-ahead stab, his spear swings are fast and protective. Because charge attacks do the most damage by far and Ieyasu has distance charges, you probably won't use his long-range shots all that much. Any charge involving a cannon blast has slight lag afterward as Ieyasu puts the cannon away. * indicates Ieyasu's most useful attacks. C1 ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Has a long charge-up time and no elemental activation. If I want to time a poot cloud type interruption, I'll go with a later charge that does more damage. C2 ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Another slow charge with no elemental activation. Next please. C3 ------------------------------------------------------------------------ This might be useful for interruptions. I don't work with it often. * C4 ------------------------------------------------------------------------ An excellent staple for laying the smackdown on crowds and officers. It is usable from the start and fast with Agility, and it covers at least 240 degrees. * C5 ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Useful for an Air-based offense because it sets up a juggle. In general, this is a decent interrupter if there's no time for a C6. * C6 ------------------------------------------------------------------------ The hefty blast radius and stunning effect are great for setting traps and herding enemies at doorways. This one hurts like crazy, too. * C7 ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Handy for sniping distant targets. C8 ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Entertainingly reminiscent of Zhang Jiao, but it takes a while to get to. More for fun than anything else. Jump + T ------------------------------------------------------------------ Possibly helpful, though I don't use it much because there's a bit of lag as Ieyasu pulls his spear out of the ground. * R1 ------------------------------------------------------------------------ The awesomeness of laser-flavored whoopass should be self-evident. It can be focused on officers or rotated to annoy crowds, and its musou consumption is not bad given its power. There is brief start-up time during which Ieyasu can be hit out of the attack, so use it when you have some space. =============================================================================== 6) Analysis of Fighting Aptitude =============================================================================== Ieyasu safely fights with enough aggression to handle a wide variety of situations, including solo runs of challenging chaos battles. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Strengths ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- As a power type with high attack and defense, Ieyasu can steadily chew through hordes without taking too much damage. C4 keeps him healthy with Drain. Ieyasu has safe ways to approach annoying foes. Snipe with C7 or lure them into a cannon blast charge. C4 can interrupt running enemies as well. Frozen general + musou power = swift death. Even if Ieyasu doesn't freeze an officer, a few good C4 whacks will dispatch them with reasonable efficiency. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Shortcomings ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Ieyasu is somewhat of a pincushion in high-firepower situations, like the Mt. Tenno ambush. He doesn't have any quick stomp type moves, so he has to run over and smack whoever is shooting him. Because he can attack through damage, he doesn't have a terrible time of this, but he's going to get hit. His fastest general kill - lasering a frozen officer - is dependent on luck. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Recommended Teammates ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Any favorite archer squisher - I usually send in Cao Ren to do this sort of dirty work. His high defense, crowd exploding C2-ex, and C1 stomp are great for dispatching firepower in mixed crowds. =============================================================================== 7) Weapons and Abilities =============================================================================== Weapons ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Cannon Spear (+9 base attack) Fuse Pike (+19 base attack) Boom Blade (+38 base attack) Quake Maker (+76 base attack) - obtained randomly from weapon boxes on 3-star and above hard battles or any chaos battle. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Abilities ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Cavalier - Get 50 KO's. Boost - Keep life at or above 30% and get 80 KO's. Fortitude - Defeat 4 officers within first 10 minutes of battle. Awakening - Without using musou attacks, defeat 5 officers within first 8 minutes of battle. =============================================================================== 8) Personal Item =============================================================================== Stage ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Wu Story 1 ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Requirements ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Do not include Sun Ce in your team. Within 10 minutes, do the following: - Defeat Li Yan, Liu Feng, Wang Ping, Hideaki Tokuyama, Zhang Yi, and Cheng Yin. - Get 200 KO's. - Trigger the cut scene between Sun Ce and Ranmaru Mori. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Recommended Method ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- This one's simple, as your allies don't tend to kill off any of the targeted generals for you and there are plenty of enemies to squish. Just go defeat everyone, getting your 200 KO's in the process. Then lead Sun Ce up to the enemy main camp by clearing out all the baddies around him. The item will appear shortly after the cut scene. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Item Location ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The History of the Tang Dynasty appears in the eastern path leading up to the northeastern area of the map. =============================================================================== 9) Quotes and Dialog =============================================================================== As an Ally ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Switch: "Slow and steady..."
