Intro ______________________________________________________________________________ This FAQ shows some useful hints and glitches in Syphon Filter: The Omega Strain that should help you progress trough the game or at least have some fun with them. ______________________________________________________________________________ 1. Jump Glitch ______________________________________________________________________________ In Syphon Filter: The Omega Strain, there's a glitch that is helpful for reaching high places without having a teammate. In other words, it allows you to reach places offline that would be only be "reachable" by interacting with a teammate in online play. For doing the jump glitch, where your character is launched upwards after doing a roll, you will need a very good timing, luck and some pratice. To do it, you must roll and then press the X button at the right moment. Some people say it's better to double-tap the X button quickly to increrase its chances of hitting the right timing. About the timing, the moment you should press X is when your character's lower back is on the ground(usually when his/her head is parallel to the ground). So, you will have to roll, do a little pause (it takes less than a second)and then tap X to do it. Experienced players say it takes hours of practice to master it. Altought it, since you will need to do it only once per objective in this FAQ, you can go to the spots where the objectives are and keep trying until it works. ______________________________________________________________________________ 2. Smoke Grenades hint ______________________________________________________________________________ If you want to save the SWAT guys in Carthage 3 you need to know this one. Smoke G's are much more useful tnan they seem to be. If you throw one and stay in the smoke, enemies won't be able to see you until the smoke dissapears(which takes quite a while). So, if on Carthage 3 you throw a Smoke G in front of a Door and them attempt to lock it, you will be able to do it without being interrupted by enemies since they will not be able to see you or shoot you. ______________________________________________________________________________ 3. ACR - Air Pistol Trick ______________________________________________________________________________ I don't know if this is a glitch or if it was intentional, but what matters is that this is very helpful. The fact is that the Air Pistol can use ACR ammo. In other words, you can transfer ammo from the ACR to the Air Pistol. Since the ACR can carry 90 rounds, if you bring with you an ACR and an Air Pistol, you'll have more than 100 non-lethal shots. This is very useful on Zurich, where all enemies are collateral targets. ______________________________________________________________________________ 4. 10000 point Flak Jacket on Lorelei ______________________________________________________________________________ You will need the Stun Jack to do this. At the topside floor of Lorelei, in the beginning, defeat the 2 enemies there. After that, use the Jump Glitch to jump over the rail and go up the stairs to where Mujari is. Once there, hit him with the Stun Jack and, after he is knocked down, take his 10000 Flak Jacket, which will make you almost invincible. ______________________________________________________________________________ 5. DormaGen Trick: Die without dying ______________________________________________________________________________ If you throw a DormaGen Gas on yourself, you will be knocked down and return to the last checkpoint, but this won't count as a death since technically you didn't die. You can use this to recover health and armor and complete stages without player deaths more easily. ______________________________________________________________________________ 6. Respawning on Carthage 1 ______________________________________________________________________________ This hint is useful for getting Agency Ratings. On the beginning of Carthage 1, defeat all the enemies and sve the CHA guy, then go to the building and get the bio-data gear. After that, kill the enemies again on the beginning. Then go into the pipe on the opposite side of the truck and the C4 to go into a room with 2 CHA guys. K.O. them and return to the beginning to find more enemies. Then go to the area where the 2 CHA guys were and return to the beginning to find more enemies again. Now just repeat this as many as you want. ______________________________________________________________________________ 7. Hints for achieving 0 deaths ______________________________________________________________________________ - You don't need to complete all the objectives to achieve this, so complete only the ones that are necessary for finishing the mission. For example, in Tokyo, you don't need to kill Ryusaki to finish the mission, so just leave him alone. - Be stealthy for as long as you can. It is very hard to die if you maintain stealth correctly on the stealth levels. - If you're low on health, you can use the DormaGen Gas trick. - Kill armored enemies with headshots if possible, so you can take their flak jackets if you need later. - be extremely careful with explosives. ______________________________________________________________________________ 8. Move quickly when on water ______________________________________________________________________________ When on water, your character runs slower because of the increased resistance. Altough that, your rolling speed isn't affected by water, so when you're on it keep rolling and you will move much faster. This trick helps for getting the par time on Carthage 2. ______________________________________________________________________________ 9. Move quickly on stealth missions ______________________________________________________________________________ This trick is a lot like the one before. On stealth missions, enemies can hear your steps if you run, but they can't hear you rolling, which is much faster than walking slowly. ______________________________________________________________________________ 10. Get enemy weapons with full ammo ______________________________________________________________________________ When you knock down an enemy with a non-lethal weapon instead of killing him, you will get his weapon with full ammo instead of just a few bullets. This is good to use against enemies with powerful weapons or when you're low on ammo. ______________________________________________________________________________ 11. Get a good weapon quickly on Belarus 2 ______________________________________________________________________________ Since you begin Belarus 2 with just the sidearm and the melee weapons, you will have to find weapon on the stage before you find your own equipment. To get a good weapon quickly, at the beginning of the stage, silently go in the way to the C4 area and, on the way to it ( around 1 o clock to where you start) you will find an enemy with an SKS. Sneak behind him and hit him with the Stun Jack, then take his SKS with full ammo, which is a relatively good weapon. You can also use the EDT or the EPDD to do this, but be sure to not kill him, or you won't receive the weapon with full ammo. ______________________________________________________________________________ 12. Doing Team objectives offline ______________________________________________________________________________ This part of the guide was created for those who cannot play Syphon Filter: The Omega Strain online and want to complete as much of the game as possible. Normally, you can only reach rank C6 by playing only offline, but with this guide you will be able to complete more objectives, achieving more medals, special ratings and commendations, and eventually reaching rank T2. 12.1. Carthage 1: Retrieve Broussard's Laptop In the beginning of Carthage 1, you start into an alley. If you look to the right, you will see 3 glass-broken windows. If you use the Jump Glitch to jump into one of these (I prefer the middle one)you will be able to enter the bank and take the laptop intact without using the water valve (which would destroy the laptop before you could reach it). After it, you can use the glitch again to jump throught the windows back to the alley and continue the mission, or simply quit the mission since the objective is already complete. 12.2. Carthage 3: Rescue injured SWAT officers For this one, you will need Smoke Grenades, the Stun Jack, a lot of speed and some luck, cause this one is very tricky. So let's get started! - In the beginning, there's an escalator in front of you and a door to the right of it. Ignore the door and go up on that escalator. - Head right and go until you see a door. Throw a Smoke G(you don't need to stop running to do it) and then lock it. - Showing your back to this door, in your front and a little to the right(about 2 o clock )there's a bridge with a bomb on it. Ignore the bomb and cross the bridge, then go left to find a SWAT guy. - Drag the SWAT guiy to the safe zone on the ground floor using the escalator nearby. Be careful cause if an enemy shoot at you while you carry the SWAT guy, it may hit him and kill him. - After it, go to the other SWAT guy on the ground floor. Showing your back to the safe zone, he's about 2 o clock on the ground. Don't forget to throw a Smoke G on him before starting to drag him to avoid the snipers. - After bringing the second guy to the safe zone, go to the opposite side and lock the door there. Don't forget the Smoke G! - Then go up throught the same escalator you used to bring down the first SWAT officer and head right to find another door. Smoke G and then lock it. - Then use any gun to break the glass fence and climb down to the ground floor (you have to crouch at the ledge to hang on it and then drop from it. If you simply fall from that height without climbing down you'll die), then go to the door near the beginning of the stage. - If you did it fast enough, you can now throw a Smoke G at the door and lock it, completing the objective. But be careful cause a SWAT guy will appear and try to enter the mall from this door, so pay attention on your radar. If you see he's going to enter before you can finish locking, take your Stun Jack and hit him as soon as he enters the mall, but, as I mentioned before, if you're fast enough you can lock it before he enters. - After all of this, the objective 's complete. ______________________________________________________________________________ 12.3. Yemen 2: Destroy Scud firing mechanism This one isn't hard. After you knock down the 5 enemies and retrieve your equipment, go upstairs to where the Scud missile is. You will see the place where you would interact with a teammate at the beginning of the balcony. To do this one, just take some distance and use The Jump Glitch to go up to where the missile is. Then, just go near it and disarm it to complete this objective. 12.4. Myanmar: Recover flight recorder This one is a little annoying because it's in a place that's very far from the beginning and there's a lot of enemies near it. To do it, go to where the MetaGlobal Terrorist is and there you will find a builing. Note that it has, at its back, a wall-like thing ( in other words, do the jump glitch where you should interact with a teammate). You have to go to one of the extremites of this "wall", Jump Glitch onto the top of it, grab the tree branch to go to the building's roof and then collect the flight recorder there. ______________________________________________________________________________ 3.
