Yes, as you can tell, I have nothing but kind words for this terrific game. This guide will help you through the main quest in Shadow Hearts, as well as give you extra information on items, equipment, characters, and (of course) side quests. I hope you find this guide useful and (at least somewhat) entertaining. If you're ready then continue on... =============================================================================== iv) Game Basics <gb*> =============================================================================== This chapter is just a basic run-down on how to play the game, terms and things that you will encounter in the game, and some background on the characters and story. ========================== In-Game Help <gb001> ========================== This section takes the topics in the in-game in help section and, in some cases, replaces those explanations with my own. I find that the in-game help can be vague and not always helpful, so maybe this can help you out a bit more. *Some things are not changed from the in-game help, and so I do not take credit for this entire section, only the parts that are changed. --------- OPERATION --------- Walk/Run - Use the directional buttons or the left analog stick to move your character. Walking is done with the directional buttons, and running with the left analog stick. Talking and Examining - Stand in front of the person you want to talk to, or object you want to examine, and press the X button. You can't examine objects without a symbol prompt (such as a "?"). Picking Up Object - While exploring the sub map, the "?" icon may appear over a character's head. Press the X button to pick up the object. Many strong items can be found this way by searching corners and other prime hiding places. Opening Treasure Chests - Certain areas of the sub map contain treasure chests. Stand in front of the chest and use the X button to open it up. Be sure to check all of them, and keep an eye out for well-hidden chests. Opening the Menu - Press the square button on the sub map or World Map to open the menu. You can use items and change equipment on the menu screen. You can't open the menu during an event or battle. Please read the "Menu" section for more details. Saving / Loading - Open the menu and select "Data" to save or load data. You can only save your game on Save Points (glowing blue pentagrams) in the sub map, or World Map You can't select Save elsewhere. ------ SYSTEM ------ Judgment Ring - The Judgment Ring decides your fate in battles, events, and shops. The Judgment Ring consists of a bar that swings around the ring and specific areas set within the ring. In battle, an arrow swings around the ring, and you must hit X on the areas of the ring to hit your enemy. Outside of battle, you may find many different variations of this being used to perform certain objectives. World Map - This map shows all the places you've visited. It also displays cities and locations you can move through, and you can decide where to go next. You can also open the menu to save the data or change equipment. This is used to travel between major cities and areas in the game. Sub map - Fields where you control the characters and talk to people, see events, and move the story forward are called sub maps. Entering Name - When a new character joins you, you can enter a name of your choice on the name entry screen. Be creative! Note: you can't change a character's name once you exit the name entry screen. Game Over - The game is over if all members in your party become immobilized (HP 0 or Petrified) in battle. To continue, reload your save data or start over from the beginning. Battles can be cruel. Save frequently to avoid repeating the same section over and over again. Graveyard - A creepy graveyard that used to appear in the main character's nightmares. It became more prominent in his mind when he met the heroine. You can acquire the souls of fusion monsters and clear out accumulated Malice by fighting here. Entering the Graveyard - To enter the graveyard, use the Save Point on a sub map, or open the menu while in World Map and choose "Graveyard". Malice - Malice is the vengeance of monsters you've killed. Malice accumulates every time you kill a monster. When the Malice meter reaches the maximum capacity, our hero's worst nightmare comes to destroy him. (So clear your malice often!) Grim Reaper - A reenacting entity that materializes into the real world from the graveyard when enough Malice accumulates. When the talisman turns blood-red, and the malice has reached maximum capacity, the Grim Reaper can appear anywhere. Talisman - The talisman on the lower-right corner of the menu displays the accumulation of Malice. As Malice accumulated, the talisman changes its color from blue to green, green to yellow, and yellow to red. When the Malice capacity goes up a level, a close-up of a talisman appears at the end of battle and shows current color. Clearing out Malice - Enter the graveyard to clear out any accumulation of Malice. At the graveyard, the four masks will turn the accumulated Malice into a monster. Once you defeat it, malice clears out and the talisman turns blue. Malice can turn into 4 different levels of monsters, depending on how much Malice has accumulated. When the Malice level is high, the monster is very strong. Soul Energy - You gain Soul energy for a specific Class when you defeat an enemy. Soul Energy is sent to the graveyard according to its Class. When enough Soul Energy accumulates in a grave, the seal on the tombstone begins to glow. When this happens, the monster inside the tombstone is ready to fight as a fusion monster. See the Soul Energy screen after battle or choose :Graveyard from the menu to see how much soul energy has accumulated. Acquiring A Fusion Soul - When Soul Energy accumulates, the seal on the tombstone for that Class begins to glow. Examine the glowing tombstone to make the fusion monster appear. If you win the battle, you can acquire its soul as a Fusion Soul. However, you must fulfill certain conditions in order to acquire any Fusion Souls above level 2. Fusion souls may be equipped and used in battle by our main hero. He can transform into many different kinds of creatures this way. Level 1 Fusions can be obtained after gaining enough soul points for them, level 2 fusions need enough points and the player must be in Europe. Level 3 fusions need a Gravestone of that class and the required amount of points. Shopping - To purchase or sell items, weapons, and armor, enter a shop or talk to the people in town and locate a street vendor. Be sure to check back in these shops after major events. Their inventory may have changed! Note: you can't sell any weapon, armor, or accessory that is equipped on a party member. Discount / Raise Price - If you own a guild card, you can get a discount or raise the sale price of items in shops. You start at 10% decrease or 5% increase, but as you gain more Guild Cards, that number will also increase. The judgment ring spins with every discount and raise price. Press the X button on all three yellow areas to pull off a discount or a raise price. Note: Even if you succeed at a discount or raise price, failing an attempt afterwards will cancel the discount /increase, and you will be forced to buy/sell at the starting price. Acupuncturist - Talk to Meiyuan to enter the "Acupuncturist" screen. He can increase the power of your weapon and/or widen hit areas. Select a character and weapon to strengthen. The screen will switch to level settings. While placing the cursor on the "Attack Power" and "Hit Areas", use the left and right directional buttons to select from 3 levels of change. If you raise a weapons "Attack Power Level (A-Lv)" its attack power increases, but the hit area narrows. If you raise a weapon's "Hit Area Level (H-Lv)", its hit area widens, but its attack power decreases. The change in cost, attack power, and hit area displays in real-time as you make your adjustments. If you are satisfied with the stats, select "OK" to start a session. To return your weapon to the default stats after a session, choose "Reset". You won't get your money back, though! Party Formation - You must choose party members when you gain more than 3 party characters. Certain events force you to form a party. At other times, talk to Meiyuan to make changes. Depending on the situation, however, some characters can't join the party. Those characters indicated in grey, and you can't select them. Lottery - The Lottery is sponsored by the "Worldwide Lottery Association". Members are scattered around the world, and you can try your luck if you have a ticket. Once ticket equals one drawing. The members of the lottery Association only reveal themselves if you own a lottery ticket. When you start the lottery, the judgment ring appears at the lower-right corner of the screen and the bar begins to spin. When you hit the X button, the bar slows down to a stop on the point where you hit X. Different colored slices give different levels of prizes, with red generally being the best. Pit Fight - A special fighting area where you can battle against Mr. Zhen's monsters. Choose a member from your party and win 10 battles. How much prize money you receive depends on the number of consecutive wins. You can enter the pit fight as many times as you want with the admission fee of 300 cash. Takes place in Shanghai. Pit Fight 2 - Could it be her leader's influence? Sharon now summons monsters for Old Carl's pit fight arena. She can only summon once in the beginning but she will be able to summon more monsters as the game progresses If you win 10 times in a row, Sharon will give you a special gift. ------ Battle ------ Starting Battle - When you encounter enemies on the submap, the screen distorts and a battle begins. How to Fight - You take turns with the enemies in battle. Select from Attack, Special Attack, Item, Defend, Flee, Front, or Back, and press the X button. Press Left for "Forward," press Right for "Back," and press L1 Button to "Run Away." The Attack, Special Attack, and Item commands are activated by maneuvering the Judgment Ring successfully. Back Attack/Cross Attack - The monsters you encounter may attack you from behind (Back Attack) or front and back (Cross Attack). Enemies attack first in a Back Attack. In a Cross Attack, you must clear out the enemy on one side in order to escape. Using the Judgment Ring During Battle - You use the Judgment Ring to activate the following commands: Attack, Special, and Item. Select a command and target to display the ring. Hit all colored areas once with the x button while the bar makes a full circle around the ring to pull off a command successfully. Critical Areas - Certain zones behind the hit areas of the Judgment Ring are colored in red. Those are called Critical Areas, and pressing the X button in these areas inscreases the effectiveness of the chosen command. Trying to hit Critical Areas may lead to Ring failure. Whether you take the risk and win big rewards, or play it the standard way is up to you. Judgment Ring/Attack - When you select the "Attack" command, the Judgment Ring appears. There are 3 yellow areas on the ring. As the bar circles the ring, hit the X button on the 3 colored areas. If your timing fails, or the bar makes a full rotation, your turn is over. If you succeed once, you'll attack your enemy once, twice, or three times. If you fail, no strikes will be made against the target. The 3 areas differ in placement and range depending on the character and weapon. Strike Hits - "Strikes Hits" occur randomly during a normal attack. Attacks with Strike Hits inflict 1.5 times more damage than normal attacks. Judgment Ring/Item - If you select the "Item" command, the item to be used and its target, the Judgment Ring appears. One area of the ring is colored in blue, as the bar passes by the blue area, hit the X button. If you succeed, you can use the item. When you fail to complete the Ring, no item will be used and your inventory won't be affected. Doubling Up On Items - Certain items raise a character's attack power, or slow down the rotation speed of the bar. If these items are used within an effective turn, you can combine the effects of a couple of items. For instance, if you use a "Silver Hourglass" and a "Bronze Arrowhead" simultaneously, you can slow down the rotation of the bar AND double the Ring's hit area. However, if you double up on the same item, such as using 2 "Bronze Arrowheads," the effect does not go over or under the top and bottom limits. The effect of items are nullified once the turn is over. The top and bottom limits of each effect is as follows: Bar Rotation Speed/Area: Tops out at double the regular value, and bottoms out at half. Attack Power Increase: Tops out at 3 times the regular value Raising Atk, Def, and Eva through Special Skill: Tops out at 30% increase Judgment Ring/Special Skill - When you select a Special Skill command and its target, the Judgment Ring appears. Depending on the skill, the Ring may or may not have a "Step Area." Hit the X button in the indicated areas to activate the skill. Step Areas - Step Areas are 1-4 strips of green on the Judgment Ring that lead to the hit areas when using a Special Skill. Press the X button as the bar passes the step areas to activate the skill. You must enter all step areas for the command to succeed. Modulation Areas - These areas are colored white and green, fading from white into green. The closer to the end the X button is hit, the more effective the skill becomes. Front/Back Row - From the front row, physical attacks deal more damage when given and received. The opposite is true for the back row. Whether a character is in the front or back row can be changed in the Menu under Formation, or during battle by using the Left and Right directional buttons. HP/MP - When a character's HP reaches 0, they are immobilized. MP is required to use mostly all Special Skills. Both can be recovered at an inn or during special events. SP - Sanity points decrease as the battle goes on (1 per turn). When a character runs out, they go Berserk and you lose control over their actions. SP is recovered at the end of every battle. Berserk - Characters under this status cannot be controlled, and will not gain EXP once the battle is over. This can be fixed through the use of SP restoring items. Class - Each character has one of the following classes: Light, Darkness, Earth, Water, Fire, Wind, Non-Class. Fire opposes Water, Earth opposes Wind, Darkness opposes Light, and Non-Class does not fall into this spectrum. Using opposite class attacks on enemies deals extra damage, while same-class attacks deal less. Classes that are neither the same nor opposites are not affected. Status Abnormalities - Characters may be inflicted with various abnormalities that can be removed through the use of items, special skills, or by simply waiting until the battle is over. Poison: Every turn, a character receives damage from the effects of poison. Cured by: Mermaid's Tear, Special Skill Silence: A character cannot use Special Skills when under Silence. Cured by: Faerie's Sigh, Special Skill, gone after several turns. Paralysis: Characters afflicted with Paralysis can only use items or Defend. Cured by: Angel's Feather, Special Skill, gone after several turns. Confusion: Similar to Berserk, a confused character cannot be controlled. Cured by: Holy Mother Bust, Special Skill, gone if character receives damage. Petrification: Similar to being knocked out, this character is immobilized. Cured by: Imp's Fangs, Special Skill Instant Death: When this status hits, the character immediately loses all HP and becomes immobilized. Cured by: Talismans, Special Skill (normal methods of reviving characters) Knockback: This effect causes a character to move from the Front Row to the Back Row. If they were already in the Back Row, nothing happens. Cured by: Moving a character back to the Front Row Judgment Ring Abnormality-Narrow: Causes the Hit Areas to decrease by half. Cured by: Phoenix Tail, Special Skill, gone after several turns. Judgment Ring Abnormality-Haste: Causes the indicator to sweep twice as fast. Cured by: Phoenix Tail, Special Skill, gone after several turns. Judgment Ring Abnormality-Shrink: The Judgment Ring shrinks in size, making it more difficult to land on the correct Hit Areas. Cured by: Phoenix Tail, Special Skill, gone after several turns. Judgment Ring Abnormality-Irregular Speed: The indicator's sweep speed changes at random. Cured by: Phoenix Tail, Special Skill, gone after several turns. Judgment Ring Abnormality-Blind Ring: The Hit Areas can't be seen. Cured by: Phoenix Tail, Special Skill, gone after several turns. ---- MENU ---- Items - Select to see list of items in the inventory. To use an item, select "Use" and choose the item you want to use. Select "Sort" to change the order of items on the screen. Select "Discard" to throw out selected items. Press the square button on an item to see its picture and description, and the judgment ring that appears during battle. You can hold up to 99 of each item. Special Skill - Displays each character's special skills learned this far. if there is a skill that recovers HP, you may use it here in exchange for MP. Equipment / Description - [Weapon] - Weapon currently equipped. "A-Lv." is the weapon's attack power level, and "H-Lv." is the weapon's hit area expansion level. [Armor] Armor currently equipped. [Accessories] Accessories currently equipped. You can equip up to 3. Str. = Strength Vit. = Vitality Agl. = Agility Int. = Intelligence Pow. = Power Lck. = Luck P-Atk. = Physical Attack power S-Atk. = Special Attack Power P-Def. = Physical Attack Defense Power S-Def. = Special Skill Defense Power P-Hit. = Physical Attack Accuracy S-Hit. = Special Skill Accuracy P-Evd. = Physical Attack Evasion S-Evd. = Special Attack Evasion Equipment / Change - Displays equipped weapon, armor, and accessories by character. Select "Change" to change equipment, and choose an item to replace it with. Consider how a character's stats will be affected when changing equipment. Equipment / Strongest - "Strongest" automatically equips the strongest combinations of weapons, armor, and accessories to maximize a character's stats. The downside, however, is that strongest weapons have narrow hit areas and some accessories make the ring spin faster. Take these into consideration and make adjustments as necessary. Equipment / Soul - The main character can equip up to 3 souls for fusion during battle. Select "Soul" and choose up to 3 souls to equip. Press the square button to read each soul's description and its special skills. Equipment / Equipped Items - Choose "Equipped Items" to see all weapons, armor, accessories, and soul in the inventory. Press the X button or square button to read the description of an equipment or soul. The number next to each soul is the SP required to transform, and the number next to each special skill name is the MP required. Graveyard - Enter the main character's spiritual world, "Graveyard". Select "Graveyard" from the menu while in the world map or at a save point. To enter the graveyard, select "Yes" when the game asks you whether you want to enter the graveyard. The graveyard version of the menu displays soul energy accumulated thus far. When soul energy reaches a certain point, a seal for that class begins to glow. Go to the graveyard to challenge the new fusion soul for acquisition after battle. Valuables - Show all valuables acquired thus far, even the ones you used along the way. Select a valuable and press the X or square button to see an image and description of the object. Always read the description of a newly acquired Valuable. Formation - Assign battle formation (front or back) to each character. Select a character to change formation to see two options: "Front (or back)" and "Switch". If the character is in the back, choose 'Front' to change rows. Do the opposite fro characters in front. To change order, select "Switch" and choose the characters to switch the order. The order doesn't affect battle damage given or received, but row placement does. Status - Displays each character's parameters and equipment. Use the up and down directional buttons to select a heading, and the left and right directional buttons to scroll through characters. The lower-right corner of the screen displays each character's class. Status / Description 1 [Level] Character's Level. Level shows a character's growth and strength. [Hit Points (HP)] Characters hit points. The left is current HP and the right is maximum HP. Higher HP means a character is less prone to become unconscious and able to take more hits. [Magic points (MP)] Character's Magic points. The left is current MP and the right is maximum MP. Higher MP means a character can sustain more special skills. [Sanity Points (SP)] Character's sanity. Higher SP means a character is less prone to go berserk. Status / Description 2 [EXP (Experience Points)] Character's experience points. Characters gain EXP by defeating monsters. [Next] EXP required to reach the next level. As characters go up in level, so does the number of EXP required to level up. Status / Description 3 [Str. (Strength)] Physical strength. Affects physical attack power. [Int. (Intelligence)] Knowledge. Affects special attack power. [Vit. (Vitality)] Stamina. Affects physical attack defense power. [Pow. (Power)] Willpower. Affects special attack defense power. [Agl. (Agility)] Reaction. Affects evasion, accuracy, and how quickly you get to a turn. [Lck. (Luck)] Good luck. Affects critical hit rate, accuracy, and evasion Help - This right here is the Help section. A new heading appears in "Help" when new elements are introduced in the game. There will be yellow "New" icon for new headings in the help menu. The controller button descriptions within Help is set to default. They do not apply if you have changed the button settings in Configure. We hope this will help you with your journey! Data - Use a save point on a sub map or open the menu on world map to save Shadow Hearts game data. You can load data wherever you can open a menu. Score - See how many battles you've encountered, the judgment ring success rate, and other records of your journey. Isn't it exciting to see your record? Go for the top rank! Library - Read information on enemies and people you've encountered. Switch between NPCs and Monsters with the up and down directional buttons, and scroll through characters / monsters with the right and left direction buttons. Monsters get added to the library after you defeat them, not just encounter them. Option - You can set basic control functions of the game here. Select a heading with the up and down directional buttons, and choose setting with the left and right directional buttons. [Controller] Select custom to go to the key customization screen. Set button configuration and choose "Confirm" to finish customization. [Sound] Switch between stereo and mono. [Message Speed] Switch message display speed between fast and slow. [Cursor Placement] Select "Memory" to have the cursor memorize its last location. "Initialize" always displays the cursor at the top. [Vibration] Set the vibration function ON or OFF. [Vibration Setting] Switch the vibration function between strong and weak. This option doesn't work if the vibration is OFF. ========================== Characters <gb002> ========================== The first paragraph in each character's section is just some basic background information from the instruction manual. Once again, I TAKE NO CREDIT FOR THIS. The second paragraph is my explanation on how useful/useless this character is in battle, and for what reasons. ---------- Yuri Hyuga ---------- Age:24 Class: Darkness Born in 1890 to a Japanese father and a Russian mother, Yuri's birthplace is unknown. In his youth, he moved throughout China, going wherever his father's military assignments took them. Both of his parents died when he was ten years old. Yuri's fusion ability awakened at the moment of their death and he has been a harmonixer ever since. He is searching for the owner of a mysterious voice, which guides him during the story. Yuri is almost always required to be in the party, so it doesn't matter whether you like him or not, you're stuck with him. Luckily for us, however, he is a very useful character. His Fusion ability allows him to transform into different beasts, whose souls he has conquered. Transforming into these beasts grants him the ability to use their abilities. His fusions open up many ways to fight your enemies when Yuri is in the party. Even when he is not fusing, however, he is still a very strong party member. Yuri uses his fists and feet to pound his enemies into oblivion, doing strong damage with each hit. ------------ Alice Elliot ------------ Age:20 Class: Light Raised in London, Alice began to hear supernatural voices as young age and became an exorcist, helping her father perform exorcisms. Now, people of influence want to capture her and use her power for their own purposes. She is shy and introverted at first, but her perky personality returns as she embarks on her journey with Yuri. Alice is a character I use often, as her healing spells are almost required at some points to keep your party alive. She can also hold her own offensively later in the game, when she gets a strong attack spell. In short, she is weak with her physical attacks and strong with her magic. She is not too helpful in random encounters, where just blowing the enemy away with physical attacks is the most effective way, but in long, drawn out boss battles, she is very helpful as she comes to your party's aid with her healing spells. ----------- Zhuzhen Liu ----------- Age: Over 60 Class: Fire This wise sage is deft in the ways of Yin and Yang and Feng Shui. He hints at some past connection with Yuri and Roger Bacon. This wise, old man is a strong magic caster, and a pretty weak physical attacker. Sounds like Alice? One difference, his spells are almost all attacking spells. Early on he is a very strong damage dealer, and will be in our party quite a lot, around the middle of the game I tend to find him not quite as strong, but at the end of the game, he seems like a strong party member once again. This is my personal opinion, however. ------------------ Margarete G. Zell ------------------ Age:? Class: Water She is a world famous spy. She meets Yuri and Alice by chance and decides to tag along on their journey. This young beauty is a decent physical attacker, and has no magic spells per-say, so why, might you ask, would we use her? Well, she has some connections, and her connections can bring in some strong attacks on your enemies as well as some decent back-up for your party. She simply calls her employer on her cell phone and he might drop in a grenade for her use, a sniper rifle for her use, or maybe even a bombing attack on the enemies. She is useful in some situations, but I find her to be an overall weak party member. --------------- Keith Valentine --------------- Age: About 400 Class: Earth He is the lord of an eastern European castle. Bored of sleeping his life away at the castle, Keith decides to join Yuri and Alice's journey. Keith has a decently strong physical attack, a little stronger than Maragarete, but not nearly as strong as Yuri. He does, however, have some dark magic to cast. This magic usually deals strong damage to one enemy or many, and sometimes inflicts bad statuses like poison on them. He also has some healing spells to help out your party in a pinch, though I wouldn't rely on them. One of his biggest draws is his ability to damage and opponent and heal himself with health-absorbing attacks. I will be using him a decent amount throughout the game, though he can often be switched out for Zhuzhen if you feel more comfortable with Zhuzhen in the party. --------------- Halley Brancket --------------- Age:? Class: Wind(?) Halley is not mentioned in the booklet, though I will try to make up my own "instruction-manual" style introduction to this character. Halley is an orphan living in London. His mother was taken away when he was very young, and his telepathic connection to her will play a large role in the journey of Yuri and Alice. I can't say too much about Halley, because I rarely used him. Not because he was a bad character, simply because I had put too much time into some of my others to be bothered with him when he joined later in the game. He is a strong character from my little experience with him. He has a spell to heal his teammates, which makes him useful right when you get him. As you build him, you find his true use, his status effects. Most of his spells do damage and inflict a status effect on the opponent at the same time. Late in the game he will round out with a full revival spell to make him an even more useful back-up healer. ----------- Roger Bacon ----------- Age:? Class: Darkness This mysterious English gentleman is hunting Alice for reasons not yet clear. His good-natured facade belies a cruel personality. He is pure evil and uses his powerful ancient magic to accomplish his sinister deeds. This character is a villain and is never in your party, therefore I need not explain how helpful he is in battle. --------------------------- Final Party Recommendations --------------------------- As I sit here writing this, I can't tell you what I may be using in my game, as that's always a last minute decision for me. I can however, recommend a team that will carry you through the game without too much trouble. Obviously, you will need Yuri throughout almost all of the game, and to back him up, I recommend Zhuzhen, then Keith (when he joins) and then Halley (when he joins). Those three will back up Yuri as the second attacker and all three of them can dabble in some healing when you're in a pinch. As your third character, and the back-bone of your party, I recommend Alice. She is a strong healer, and can save you when the time comes. She can also do strong damage to your enemies with some of her attacking spells. She should be used mostly in boss battles, and is not quite as helpful in regular encounters, in which someone like Keith or Zhuzhen (whichever one isn't your current back-up attacker) would be more helpful as your third character. Well, I hope that made sense to you, because it's going to be what you'll be using throughout the game. ================================ Story Introduction <gb004> ================================ The game starts off with the brutal murder of a priest. His daughter who was with him at the time (Alice) is reported missing. She has a great power, and the wrong people come looking for her to harness this power. She is taken on a train and is being protected by the Japanese army. A man, Roger Bacon, rips through the Japanese guard and takes Alice with him. A man he knocked unconscious (Yuri), wakes up and goes to investigate what happened. And so the adventure begins... =============================================================================== v) Walkthrough <wk*> =============================================================================== =============================== Things to Remember <wk001> =============================== Here is a list of things you need to keep in mind when playing this game (in no particular order): - Be sure to look everywhere! You never know where you might find an item. I'll try to mention everyone of them, but you never know when I might miss an item. Email me if you find something like this I'm missing. - Talk to everyone, you never know what kind of fun and interesting information you might find out! - Always try to go for the Nice, Good, and Perfect on the Judgment Ring. Once you get this down, you will be able to beat enemies with ease, and even events like Push Rings will become a piece of cake. - Remember to clear out your malice often! You don't want to be visited by Fox Face at a bad time... - Make good use of your Guild Cards, as they can be very helpful in getting all the latest equipment with the little money you might end up having. - Always remember to get Yuri's next fusion from the graveyard when you've accumulated enough points. Just go to a save point, choose Graveyard, and examine the new, shining grave. - When in a dungeon, try to have the Pedometer equipped on a party member. The steps you accumulate can be used to get some nice goodies (or a healthy supply of Thera Extracts) - The levels I have shown for each boss are not recommendations, they are just the levels I used when I fought that fight. - Try to keep about 5 of the different types of status healing items on hand at all times. - When in a new town, check out the shop for new weapons/armor for your characters! - When in a boss fight, try to keep track of their HP with a calculator of some sort. This way, you know whether you can take the turn to finish them off, or if you have to wait and heal up, getting ready for their attack. - When you get the various "Seal" items, be sure to use them in battle, as their effectiveness increases! - Items in my "Item List" sections of the Walkthrough are in the order you find them in the area. - You may also want to check out the Hints/Tricks/Secrets section for more info on the little things you can do throughout the game ============================ The Train <wk002> ============================ Item List --------- Items in this area: - Thera Leaf - Mana Leaf Watch the extremely beautiful and intense opening scene, and get ready to play. You start off controlling our Rude Hero, Yuri. Walk down a screen and run down the aisles, examine the two downed guards to find a Thera Leaf and Mana Leaf. After our hero jumps onto the roof of the train, you are forced to fight the mysterious "Bacon." ================ Boss ================ Roger Bacon Class: Dark HP:??? Win: None ================ Party/Levels: Rude Hero - Level 3 ================ Just attack him a few times, in fusion mode or not, it doesn't really matter. Take this opportunity to get used to the Judgment Ring. Eventually he will attack you for 999 damage, ending the battle. ================ Watch this beautiful scene as well, and then choose to go to the Plains. =========================== The Plains <wk003> =========================== Item List --------- Items in this area: - Pure Leaf - Leather Belt - Sluice Gate Handle Sit back during some dialogue between Yuri and Alice, until Alice runs away in fear of Yuri. Examine the ground to the left to find a Pure Leaf. On the next screen, look along the right side for a hidden path that leads to another area. Open the chest here to find a Leather Belt. Now go southwest to find Alice again. After some formal introductions, the two decide to team up. (It may be worth mentioning that Alice comes equipped with a Bandana accessory, which increases her defense) Head to the southeast, across the bridge. Investigate the sluice gate in the top-right to get the option to pull the handle off of the one in the top-left. You will have to press X as the arrow lands on all of the different sections of the ring. Note that you can always try removing the handle from the gate in the bottom- left. This one requires that you rapidly press X until the arrow lands in the shaded area, and then press it as needed to keep the area within the designated area. I recommend saving first to make sure you get it on the first try as it will alter what quality of a prize you get later on. After putting the handle on the gate, Yuri decides to take a break. Alice will fall asleep and a mysterious figure will appear before Yuri. This is his father, "Fox-Face." After some dark dialogue between the two, you engage in combat. ================ Boss ================ Fox Face Class: Dark HP: ??? Win: None ================ Party/Levels: Yuri - Level 3 ================ This is another un-winnable battle. I recommend choosing the defend command until Fox Face takes you down to 1 HP with an attack called "!!!." He'll then proceed to finish you off. ================ ========================== Graveyard <wk004> ========================== Item List --------- Items in this area: - None You awake in an ominous graveyard. Approach the green-shining tombstone to fight the Raging Tiger. For this fight, just transform into the Death Emperor and fight him off with physical attacks mixed in with Death Messenger. Winning this fight gets you a new Fusion, Raging Tiger. Be sure to equip it in the Equip menu, under Soul. Now walk up to the door in the northwest of the graveyard to meet four arrogant masks who have some words and a fight for Yuri. Just pound this foe into the ground. After some more discussion, you can leave the graveyard the way you came in. ============================ The Plains <wk005> ============================ Item List --------- Items in this area: - Leather Belt (or other chest prize) - Holy Mother Bust You wake up to Alice. Now get ready to leave this area. Grab the item down in the dried up riverbed, it should be a Leather Belt if you followed my advice. Equip it on Yuri. In case you didn't succeed at the ring on your first try, here are your possible prizes: TWO ATTEMPTS: Mana Seed THREE ATTEMPTS: There Leaf FOUR ATTEMPTS (OR MORE): Nothing (chest is empty) Move along, crossing the newly-created path to the southwest. Now proceed north, grabbing the Bronze Arrowhead along the right side one screen up and then the Tent by the well on the screen after that. Finally, pick up the Talisman of Luck northeast of the well, by the merchant. I recommend buying a few Thera Leaves, Mana Leaves, and a Bandana from the Peddler. From the well, exit to the far north to find quite a disturbing shrine where Yuri and Alice come to the realization that this town is full of cannibals. After leaving the shrine and being invited in to the house of Granny Mayor, you are locked inside. The children will come in to grab a bite, and you are forced into a fight. Just pound them to death, healing when necessary. Each one should take about 3 attacks to go down. Outside, you will begin to encounter random battles now, so be on your toes. Walk north, back to the shrine to encounter the Cat Lady, who disappears before you can cause any damage. Now go south, to the entrance to the town, and the Cat Lady will appear a few times, just to disappear again. When you reach the south gate, you will meet the wise old Zhuzhen and his partner, the Acupuncturist. Head north to the Cat Lady's house. After Zhuzhen devises a plan to take out the Cat Lady, grab the Phoenix Tail in the upper-right corner of the house. Proceed south, grabbing the Metal Vessel from the stands on the left. Continue south, to the main entrance, and grab the torch from behind the Acupuncturist. Save your game and heal up before entering the Cat Lady's house. When you're ready, head inside. She reveals herself, and attacks your party. ================ Boss ================ Felinus Class: Wind HP:250 Win: Lottery Ticket ================ Party/Levels: Yuri - 6 Alice - 6 Zhuzhen - 6 ================ Have Yuri transform into Raging Tiger and use the Flying Stones attack as well as physical attacks. Felinus is weak to these attacks, so this should help cause great damage to her. Have Alice attack and heal when she is needed, and have Zhuzhen use Ogre Flamedance. This boss should go down pretty quickly. ================ Leave the house, save your game, heal up, and then head north to the shrine. When given the option to "violate" it or not, choose to violate it. Time to fight the head honcho around here. ================ Boss ================ Yamaraja: Earth HP:300 Class: Water Win: Star Brooch ================ Party/Levels: Yuri - 7 Alice - 7 Zhuzhen - 7 ================ Yes, this boss really is Water class, not Earth. I don't know why... Have Yuri fuse into Raging Tiger and use physical attacks mixed with Flying Stone if you want, have Alice heal with Cure, and have Zhuzhen spam Ogre Flamedance. Try to go for Perfect on Ogre Flamedance, though if you're not comfortable enough with the Judgment ring, don't, as it's better to get the normal damage than a miss. If you keep Alice healing on every turn, and have the other two attack, stopping to heal only if you feel you really need it, then this battle should go by without too much trouble. If Alice's SP reaches 1, use a Pure Leaf on her. ================ Watch the scene and then grab the Shell Bracelet from the shrine. Speak to the Peddler before leaving to receive a Guild Card. These will help you get a better deal on things you buy or sell. Should you have equipped any accessories on Zhuzhen while he was a part of the team, make sure to remove them now. Watch the scene outside the town gates, and say your goodbyes with Zhuzhen (for now...). When playing this game, I recommend you save first to make sure you get the best prizes with the limited amount of Lottery Tickets you receive throughout the game. Aim for the red for the best prizes. At this point I recommend equipping some of the Accessories you've gotten recently, like the Pedometer, Star Brooch, and (possibly) the Jade Lariat. Talk to the people around the square, and then return to Alice and she should be waking up. After she rejoins you, exit to the left, grab the Tent in the alley to your right and then enter the shop. Buy new weapons and armor for Yuri and Alice with the 10% discount. Equip them with their new weapons and armor and then sell off their old stuff for the raised price to get back some of your money. Save your game and tell Alice you're ready to leave, watch the scene that ensues, and then enter the sewers. ============================ Sewers <wk008> ============================ Item List --------- Items in this area: - Gold Hourglass - Pure Seed - Lottery Ticket - Type 94 Pistol - Rosewood Bracelet Please note that at any time while you're in the Sewers, you can exit and return to the shop if you're running low on supplies. Go to the southeast corner, right near where you start, to find a Gold Hourglass. Proceed north from where you started and take your first left to find a Pure Seed. Go back, continue north, and take a left immediately. Examine the hole in the wall to trigger a small scene. Afterwards, examine the hole again to find a Lottery Ticket. Go back to the fork in the road to be formally introduced to Margarete, who joins your party. Go back to where you entered the Sewers, go east and then north and take a right around the corner. Continue past the ladder, west, and then turn north to find a treasure chest containing a weapon for Margarete, the Type 94 Pistol. Examine the ladder to find it's sealed. Go back to where you came in, continue north, cross the debris, and grab the Sealing Stone from the hole in the wall. Examine the ground to the right to pick up a Rosewood Bracelet. Now head back to the ladder. Before you open it, make sure Margarete has her new weapon and some accessories equipped. Also, heal your party and save your game. Upon opening the ladder, you are forced into a pretty tough fight. Fuse Yuri and have him rip into the enemies one at a time. Have Alice heal, and have Margarete just attack the enemies. Save your game and then climb the ladder. Once on the surface, a scene occurs. You fight some easy soldiers, and then the scene continues. Time to fight that cute little puppy... =============== Boss =============== Beast Dog Class: Fire HP: 450 Win: Spikes =============== Party/Levels: Yuri - 9 Alice - 8 Margarete - 8 =============== This boss is of the Fire Class, which means he's weak against Water. Use Margarete's Aqua Edge skill on Yuri to make his attacks do much more damage against the boss. Have Yuri fuse to add even more strength to his attacks. Margarete should commence a barrage of Grenades, stopping only when Alice alone can't keep the party alive to use a Thera Leaf. Alice, obviously, should just keep a constant stream of Cure spells going. =============== After the fight, watch the scene. Talk to the man standing in front of the pen area and offer to find his turtle. Here's an explanation of the mini-game: The turtle appears at one of eight possible spots. In each playthrough, it's pre-determined what spot he'll be. So save first. Play once, examining all the spots until you find him. Once you figure out which one the turtle is hiding in, reload your save and go right there again. Picking him out on the first or second attempt nets you a Lottery Ticket. Head west to reach the main town area. Run to the eastern corner of the screen and search around for a treasure chest with a Tea of the Healer. You can save your game if you want. Enter the inn (left of the Save point) and watch the scene that occurs. After the scene, you can go downstairs to purchase some equipment. Examine the back-right corner of the basement for a Seal of Aura. Back upstairs, check the boxes stacked to the left to find a Tent. Exit to trigger a scene. After that lengthy scene, buy some Thera Leaves from the man on the right side of the room. Behind the table just in front of him is a hidden chest containing a Silver Hourglass. Take it, of course. Now exit the house, save your game, and then head down to the docks. Search the pen where you found the turtle, in the bottom-left corner, for a R.Phoenix Talon. Enter the red circle for the hardest battle so far. ================ Boss ================ Yamaraja: Wind Class: Earth HP: 800 Win: Seal of Life ================ Party/Levels: Yuri - 10 Margarete - 9 Zhuzhen - 9 ================ This boss is immune to physical attacks, so you'll have to resort to specials. Have Yuri fuse to Death Emperor and spam Dark Messenger, have Margarete spend her attacking turns using Grenade, and have Zhuzhen use Ogre Flamedance. Heal your party with Thera Leaves. This battle is simply a test of endurance. Yuri should always attack, and Zhuzhen and Margarete should alternate between attacking and using Thera Leaves as necessary. As long as you can dish out some strong hits, you should be able to take this beast down before it takes you down. One last tip, keep track of how much health this boss has, as well as how much damage you're doing, that way you can decide whether to heal or just finish the battle once you get the boss low enough on HP. ================ Save your game again (unless you want to have to fight that battle again) and enter the house Alice is staying in for another scene. Walk into the basement of the inn, and go around the back of the shop to gain access to the chest containing a Flare Brooch. Exit the inn and head into the square to talk to the woman who is drying her fish. Bring the fish to Sea Mother like she said to. Exit the house and take about three steps straight to the left. Examine the ground to trigger a ring. Strike in all three bars for 2000 coins, two of them for 1000, or one of them for 500. Talk to the man at the pen for a chance to dig up treasure in the garden. It costs 300 coins to participate. One of the spots contains a Third Key, so save your game first and keep digging until you find it on one of your three tries. The other prizes could be a Thera Leaf or a Mana Leaf, usually, nothing special. Down by the docks, talk to the Silent Peddler to receive items based on the number of steps you've taken. Slowly make your way out of your room to talk to Margarete, and then proceed down the side of the boat to talk to Zhuzhen. Inspect the barrels on deck to find a Witch's Broth item. After that, go back and examine the wheelhouse next to trigger a scene. After that, head back to Alice for a touching scene between the two. Margarete then barges in yelling about something going on at the front of the boat. Save your game and follow her to find out what it is. Stop in the wheelhouse though to grab a Lottery Ticket by the side of the wheel. Continue on towards the events. After the scenes, save your game and exit. Screams ring out from the wheel- house, go to see what it is. A battle ensues. After that, Sea Mother is in trouble, go to help her out and fight another battle. Next, go talk to Zhuzhen to trigger another easy battle. At this point, you want to make sure Alice knows Blessed Light, as this will be important in the coming battles. Since she will be casting this spell, someone else needs to keep the party healthy, so stock up on plenty of Thera Leaves/Mana Leaves for Margarete to use on your fighters. I also recommend having a decent supply of Talismans of Luck. All this can be bought from one of the smugglers in the wheelhouse. Please note, though, that answering the Courier Subordinate with "What are you saying?!" reveals him to be a lottery member, with a top prize of Iron Clogs. Now, if you feel ready, heal up and save your game. Then go talk to Zhuzhen to trigger the next scene and some battles. ================ Boss ================ Li Li Class: Dark HP: 550 Win: W. Tiger Hair ================ Party/Levels: Yuri - 11 Alice - 11 Margarete - 11 ================ This battle is part 1 of 2, so don't blow it all here, you have to pace yourself. Start off with Yuri fusing to Raging Tiger and having Alice cast Holy Edge on him. This should give him a significant boost in damage. If you have it (which you should), have Alice cast Blessed Light on Li Li for strong damage. Margarete should keep the party healthy with Thera Leaves. You should try to end this battle as quickly as possible, as Li Li can cause some serious problems if given the opportunity. With Yuri attacking strong, Li Li won't last too long. Ding ding ding! Round 1, Us. Now get ready for Round 2! ================ Some scenes occur, and Li Li comes back to fight. ================ Boss ================ Li Li Class: Dark HP: 700 Win: B. Tortoise Fang ================ Party/Levels: Yuri - 12 Alice - 11 Margarete - 12 ================ Start off with healing any serious injuries you may have from the last fight, and then proceed the way you did last time, with Holy Edge on Yuri and having him fuse into Raging Tiger. Alice should then spend any turns she can casting Blessed Light, though she may be stuck healing if you're unlucky. If you've begun to master Yuri's judgment ring, then he should be doing at least 100 damage every turn. Combined with Alice doing about 80-95 damage with Blessed Light, this battle will end relatively quickly. ================ After the battle, watch the scene. This battle is a joke and there's almost no way you can lose. Just fuse and rip into them. The main guy absorbs darkness, so physically attack him. Finish watching the scene. You now control Zhuzhen. There's a Silent Peddler if you have steps you want to trade in. For now, head down the stairs, save your game, and exit the inn. Just in front of the door of the inn is a well hidden treasure chest containing a Pilgrim's Staff. Now go to the far south of this area and search around some barrels for a Mana Seed. Just north of here, up the stairs, near a cart, is a Lottery Ticket. Equip Zhuzhen's Pilgrim's Staff and exit the screen to the southwest. Here, a scene will occur. After the scene, look around some barrels right by the stairs to find a Lottery Ticket. Before we continue here, leave the bar to explore more of the city. Exit this screen to the right. Just to the right of the entrance, under a yellow sign is a hidden Talisman of Mercy. Continue south and search some shelves on the right for a B. Dragon Horn. To the west is Mika's House shop. Exit to the southwest. Search the barrel beside the green arch for a Seal of Life. Down inside the boat is a Lottery Member, be sure to win the red prize, as it's a Guild Card. If you didn't open the treasure chest here on the boat ride into Shanghai, it will contain a Phoenix Tail. Also, if you win the lottery member's blue prize, a "Tea of the Holy One", you'll actually acquire a Tea of the Sage. This is the only known location of this somewhat mediocre item. When you're done, return to the bar and speak to the man in the top left, behind the counter to trigger a scene. The scene will bring about a few easy fights, just trade blows, healing if you feel you need it. Next up is a fight you cannot win, against Wugui. Just attack until he uses Game of Death, which kills you instantly. Yuri comes in to take a stab at him next. =============== Boss =============== Wugui Class: Dark HP: 400 Win: Weird Bottle =============== Party/Levels: Yuri - 13 =============== His Game of Death trick won't work here, so fuse into Raging Tiger and let loose with some strong attacks. If you find you need to heal, use Raging Tiger's healing spell. =============== After that fight, plenty of dialogue ensues. You can find Meiyuan the Acupuncturist in the bar to power up your weapons. I suggest buying new weapons from the Weapon Shop before you power up your current ones. The weapon shop is located northeast of the bar, on a corner behind a stand. Make good use of your two guild cards, as it's often the only way you can afford new equipment. Don't worry if you can't afford to fully outfit all of your party members, the next dungeon has some shops within it to help you out. When you're ready, exit Shanghai to the north. Zhuzhen stays to remember the chant. Head back a few steps and then exit to the west. The "Courier Subordinate" has a shop if you need any more supplies. There's also a chest with a Talisman of Mercy and a Save Point. Head back and speak to Zhuzhen, he's remembered the chant. Then proceed down the now-open stairway. Continue on through the doorway to trigger a scene. Save your game and then enter the door. You may not use items in battle in this dungeon. Grab the Tent in the chest and then continue to the end of the path and warp to a new location. Take this path past the empty treasure chest and to the chest containing a Bronze Arrowhead. From here, go down a bit and west to a yellow warp portal. Master Xiaofang has a shop set up here. Go past the empty chest, grab the next one (a Tea of the Healer), and then go west to find a Bronze Dagger. Head up to the north, a little to the west, and south to find a chest with a Mana Seed. Go a bit south and then exit to the west to find the Bell Bracelet. Head back to the last screen and then continue south until you find a Talisman of Mercy. Go back to the last screen, exit east, then go north and then east, repeat on the next screen. Here you should find a W. Tiger Hair. Now head back a screen and then exit west. Go north and take that path all the way west. Go up north at the next fork to find a red portal. Take this out of here. Equip Zhuzhen with an accessory to protect against silence, and then head all the way north, save your game, and examine the wall. Time for a fight. ================ Boss ================ Xieshi Class: Fire HP: 550 Win: Jade Lariat ================ Party/Levels: Yuri - 14 Zhuzhen - 12 ================ Hopefully Zhuzhen has his Nourishing Potion spell, as the lack of items (and Alice) will make healing challenging in this fight. Have Yuri fuse and pound it with physical attacks, while Zhuzhen attacks with regular strikes or Ogre Flamedance. Keep your HPs up with Nourishing Potion or one of Yuri's fusion's healing spells and this is an easy battle. ================ It's time for the girls to be thrown into the dungeon. Their special attacks are sealed in battle. Grab the Tent, head north, and warp. Head west and then north at the first chance to find a B. Tortoise Fang. From the last screen, exit west, and then continue south to find the yellow warp. Head east one screen and then south until you find the Western Belt. From here, go south again to find a Voodoo doll. From here, go all the way north to where you started and then east. Grab the Thera Seed and then go south one screen and take the path east. From the empty chest, go south to snag a Silver Hourglass. Go back to the last screen and exit to the east to find a Gold Hourglass. Follow this path to the warp, picking up the Witch's Broth along the way. Save your game as you did last time and examine the wall for yet another fight. ================ Boss ================ Baigu Class: Light HP: 400 Win: Coral Lariat ================ Party/Levels: Alice - 12 Margarete - 13 ================ Have Margarete attack every turn unless it is completely necessary that she heal. Have Alice throw Thera Leafs whenever they're needed, keeping everyone's HP up. Play it safe and whittle it's health down to win this fight easily. ================ Yuri and Zhuzhen now have one more dungeon to go through, this time with both items and special skills blocked when in battle. Grab the Tent and continue on. At the fork, go east, and then follow the path to the north. Use the green warp. Go north until you find a Thera Seed. Now exit to the west and take a turn to the north to find a Soul Benediction. Exit east and then follow that path until you find Leonardo's Bear and the yellow warp. If you haven't already, you really should make sure you have two Leonardo's Bears (you can buy them from Xiaofang). Go west two screens and then north to find a Seal of Wisdom. Go back one screen, exit to the west, and then go all the way south to find Xiaofang ready to play the lottery game. Try winning the Flash Badge from him. Now go back two screens the way you came, exit to the west, and then go south. You should find a Pure Seed. Continue along this path to grab a Wood Token. Now go north two screens, west one, and grab the Studded Cap. From here go south until you find the last warp. Equip your warriors with the strongest Belts and Caps you have to give them a chance in this fight. I gave Yuri the Flash Badge, so he would be able to get in more attacks and Zhuzhen the Weird Bottle. Save your game and examine the wall, this is going to be the hardest fight in this temple so far. ================ Boss ================ Qinngu Class: Water HP: 700 Win: Leonardo's Bear ================ Party/Levels: Yuri - 15 Zhuzhen - 13 ================ There is nothing you can do to heal, at all. Just pound this boss and hope you can kill it before it kills you. If you equipped Yuri with the Flash Badge, get ready for some fast rings, as it greatly increases the speed of his Judgment Ring. If you have a lot of trouble, try leveling up some. The key to winning is the Flash Badge. Yuri will get enough turns in to kill the boss, as long as you don't miss with his Judgment Ring. ================ Take the stairway to the left of the shrine up and watch the ensuing scene. Make sure you have Leonardo's Bears equipped on everyone at this point. ================ Boss ================ Yamaraja: War Class: Dark HP: 850 Win: R. Phoenix Talon ================ Party/Levels: Yuri - 16 Zhuzhen - 14 Margarete - 13 ================ The Leonardo's Bears protect against Instant Death from his Game of Death attack. He will absorb all special attacks thrown at him, so don't even bother. Just pound him, healing as needed (which will probably be a lot). Have Zhuzhen use Nourishing Potion to heal and when needed, Margarete can use a Thera Leaf. If you can endure his attacks and whittle his health down, I can guarantee you a win. Don't forget to fuse Yuri before you let loose with your physical attacks. All the shops in Shanghai still have the same inventory if you want to pick up any last-minute supplies. After you exit the hotel with Zhuzhen and Margarete, head to the bar. Enter to watch another scene. Exit the bar for some more events. You will now start to have random encounters with Japanese soldiers in town. Go to the smuggler's boat and examine the hatch near the front to find the precious item Kato talked about. From here, head back to the inn and to the room being occupied by the Japanese. You will have to fight a few pretty easy fights here, so don't come in too under-prepared. We now see Alice being held captive. You have three choices in dialogue. No matter how tempting the "sexy" ones may be, choose these three: "Quit it, you dirty old man!" "Just get away from me!" "Ignore him" We now have control of Yuri in the gang outside of Dehuai's lair, Kuihai tower. This is your first chance to do the Kowloon Fortress sidequest. It cannot be done after going through this tower. For more info, check out the Kowloon Fortress sidequest in (surprisingly) the Sidequests section. There are also the Pit Fights in Shanghai to keep you busy before making your way into Kuihai tower. For these, go through the curtains in the bar to enter the back room and speak with Mr. Zhen. For more information, see the Sidequests section. Finally, as a side game, you can speak to the man in front of the Smuggler's Boat back in Shanghai. For 300 coins, he'll let you play a game where you must pick a dog, three dogs will scurry around, and you must then choose out of the bunch the one you had originally picked. Dragon Horn ================ Party/Levels: Yuri - 18 Zhuzhen - 16 Margarete - 16 ================ Have Yuri fuse, Margarete cast Aqua Edge on him, and let him loose on this water beast. Have Margarete and Zhuzhen attack, healing when it's needed. This shouldn't be too hard of a fight, really. Just hit him and heal when he hits you. He should go down first. ================ There's a save point right here, so make good use of it. Run around the back of this main shrine to find a chest containing a Lottery Ticket. Climb all the way up the stairs on the right and place the votive picture in the slot at the top of the stairway. Examine the left side of the room to find a Pure Extract. Now exit this room through the door on the right and follow the path to find the B. Dragon VP. Take it back down to the main hall and exit to the northwest. Examine the left side of the room to find an Erotic Book. Then check out the shelf to find the R. Phoenix VP. Take it, replace it with the B. Dragon VP and then examine the left side of the room to find an Erotic Book. Leave the room. Go up the left stairway this time and then place the R. Phoenix VP into the slot. Exit through the northern doorway. Pick up the W. Tiger VP in this room. Take the White Tiger VP back to the room with the B. Dragon VP, grab the B. Dragon VP, replace it with the W. Tiger VP, and exit. Place the B. Dragon VP in the center shrine here, save your game, and go up the left stairway. Make sure at this point that you've completed all sidequests you wish to try. From Kowloon Fortress to Zhen's Pit Fights, to the small dog-catching minigame in Shanghai. When you're ready, go through the center doorway again, and then proceed up the now-open stairway. Watch the scene that takes place. This dramatic discussion is interrupted as Dehuai sics his pet on Yuri and the gang... ================ Boss ================ Badger Devil Class: Fire HP: 700 Win: Seal of Luck ================ Party/Levels: Yuri - 19 Zhuzhen - 18 Margarete - 17 =============== Just have Yuri fuse and pound this boss. Margarete and Zhuzhen can use their strongest special attacks. If anyone ends up needing it, have Zhuzhen heal with his Nourishing Potion. Very easy fight. =============== After the fight, go down the small staircase at the bottom of the platform to find a treasure chest containing a Talisman of Wisdom. In the room where you just confronted Dehuai, examine the rubble in the top-right to find a Lottery Ticket. Make sure no one is seriously injured, go back and save if you want, and then continue up the stairs to face Dehuai himself. =============== Boss =============== Dehuai Class: Fire HP: 1700 Win: Hermit's Staff =============== Party/Levels: Yuri - 19 Zhuzhen - 18 Margarete - 18 =============== Have Yuri fuse, Margarete set him up with Aqua Edge, and have him pound this boss like he's done every other boss. Let Margarete be your secondary attacker and Zhuzhen act as your dedicated healer for this fight. If it's an emergency, have Margarete skip an attacking turn to heal someone in need. Try to keep Yuri on the assault, however. =============== Watch the rest of the scene play out. You are given a chance to form your party to fight the last big battle here. I will be going with Alice over Margarete. The Japanese army shows up just in time. At the bottom of the stairs you see two soldiers. The one on the left allows the switching of your party members and you can play the Lottery with him. The one on the right sells you items. I recommend buying a set of Mirror Bracelets and equipping them on your party. This will help out greatly in the coming fight. Head all the way up and save your game at the save point. Heal up as well. Go up the stairs to trigger some more scenes and easily the toughest fight of the game thus far. ================ Boss ================ Yamaraja: Calamity Class: None HP: 2900 Win: Fifth Key ================ Party/Levels: Yuri - 20 Zhuzhen - 19 Alice - 19 ================ He uses a lot of petrify attacks (Mirror Bracelets, to the rescue!) and some other status effects. He doesn't have a class, so just have Yuri fuse into whatever fusion you want and start attacking. Zhuzhen should use attacking spells whenever he gets the chance, and healing spells/items when needed. Alice should pretty much spend the entire battle using Cure or healing items of different sorts. You need Alice and Zhuzhen to keep the party alive long enough for Yuri to finish this boss off. Remember to heal statuses as soon as you get the chance, to prevent future problems from them. Good luck! ================ After winning that battle, you've earned a delicious cutscene like this. Enjoy! Run north when you're in control of Alice again to fight a pretty easy battle. The scene continues, leaving our duo back in the bar. Leave the bar. Go north a bit and, remaining on this screen, cut back along the east side, where the pavement changes color, to find a Kirin Scale. On the northern-most screen, search the bottom- left corner for a chest containing a Lottery Ticket. It's hidden among the trees. After all of this, leave the town from the southern gate. From that point, go forward one screen and then examine the northwest fence to find a Mana Seed. From here, head east one screen. Examine the northeast corner, near the gate, to find a Talisman of Wisdom. Talk to the girl in the southeast house, telling her you're a friend of her father's. After the scene, head west. There are monsters on the prowl now, so be careful. You can shop at the eastern-most house on this screen. When you're done, examine the house in the north. Head back to the east and talk to the people in the homes along the northern edge to find out more about the suspicious mayor, Kevin. When your detective work is finished, head back to the late Terry's house. After the scene with Nina, examine the crates in the bottom-right to find a Moon Swallow. There is also a Moon Card hidden over there somewhere. Nina runs a standard item shop here if you find you need any goods. Leave to the east, open the gate, and go to the Blue Castle. ============================== Blue Castle <wk017> ============================== Item List --------- Items in this area: - Cosmic Bracelet - Thera Seed - Star Swallow - Tent - Lottery Ticket Examine the trees to the left to find a Cosmic Bracelet. Continue on to the castle. Off to the right is Meiyuan the Acupuncturist and a chest that holds a Thera Seed. The west side of this area has a hidden chest containing a Star Swallow. Attempt to enter the gate, only to find that it's locked. When you go to leave, a scene occurs, showing the gate open back up. Enter the castle. Head in, saving your game at the top of the stairs. Follow the western path around, picking up the Tent along the way. Continue around, getting the Pocket Watch from the hidden at the bottom of the stairs after stopping for a second time. Exit throug this stairwell.Examine the skeleton and then begin to check out the rows of coffins. You have to pray in alphabetical order. Save your game here, equip Leonardo's Bears, use a Tent if you need it, and get ready for quite an interesting fight. ================ Boss ================ Yuri Class: Darkness HP: 1500 Win: None ================ Party/Levels: Alice - 22 Zhuzhen - 22 Keith - 22 ================ Yuri uses his regular attack combo, dealing strong damage to one character at a time. Just heal whenever someone is injured (try to heal with Zhuzhen), have Alice use Holy Edge on Keith, let Keith pound away with physical attacks (or Drain Touch when he needs a few more HP). Alice can take him down with Blessed Light. When he fuses into Death Emperor, he'll use Dark Messenger. A strong attack with a chance of death (why we equipped Leonardo's Bears). This is a very slow, very painful fight. Just keep healing, doing some damage here and there, and eventually Yuri will throw in the towel. ================ You gain control of Alice in Yuri's Graveyard. Approach the masks for a scene. Exit the graveyard through the northern gate to continue the scene. Don't fuse, however, as Fox Face's SP Lowering attack could cause problems if Yuri fuses. His attacks are weak, so don't worry. Afterwards, leave the graveyard. Head into the next room over to look for Alice. Meiyuan resides in the front room on the bottom floor of the inn. The man in the bottom-right is a Silent Peddler who runs a shop as well. Speak to the inn keeper, exit the inn, and then turn up the alley to the north. A scene with Alice occurs. A battle against some regular enemies takes place. Afterwards, the scene continues. After the scene, search Yuri's room to find a Tea of the Holy One on the nightstand. Prepare your party, leave the inn, and turn up the alley. Grab the Huge Jug in the alley and the Lottery Ticket near where you met Bacon. You may want to equip accessories that protect against Poison before proceeding much further. Attempt to open the back door of the church. You must go through a ring exercise before it will open. Just hit all three areas three times around. Enter the church. A scene takes place, leading to a fight. ================ Boss ================ Olga Class: Darkness HP: 3250 Win: Small Jug ================ Party/Levels: Yuri - 25 Alice - 24 Zhuzhen - 22 ================ If Yuri has his best equipment, he should be dishing out heavy damage. Have him fuse and let Alice help him out with Holy Edge. Let Yuri beat on Olga the entire battle. Alice should be constantly healing. Zhuzhen/Keith/Margarete can use items/spells to heal when needed and use their strongest attacks when they get the chance. Be careful of this bosses strong attack, Black Fog. If you can recover from that every time it's used, you should have no trouble with this fight. If you have trouble with statuses, equip the right equipment to block it. ================ When you regain control of Yuri, go back in the front entrance of the church. Go through the door on the right. In the first confessional you'll find a chest containing a Jasper Cape. On your way out, examine the altar to find a Seal of the Soul. You can now play the lottery with Lottery Member #6 in the alley to the left of the church. Continue down the road to continue the scene. Speak to the mean standing around here to find out some information. Check out the yard of the house on the left to find an Oak Slingshot. Go back across the bridge (staying on this screen) and enter the bar for another scene. Behind the counter, you'll find a Mana Extract. You can buy supplies from the Silent Peddler sitting on the stool. Leave the bar and head back to the hotel near where you entered the city. A scene takes place. Head back down the road, across the bridge, and approach the dilapidated building. There's a Thera Extract on the left. Examine the door on the ground to start a Push Ring. Just keep pushing it, trying to keep it in the hit area. It's not too hard. Once you're done, a path opens up. Head inside. Pick up the Demon Earrings off the ground to your left and the Lottery Ticket near the bottom-right. Head along the wooden path and up the ladder. Near the crate is a Soul Benediction. Head up the stairs for a scene. Afterwards, search the room for a Talisman of Purity and a Warning Device. When you get your wallet back, you receive a Crucifix as well. Leave and enter the house to the right for a scene. Search the room for a Seal of Force, Lottery Ticket, and Kirin Scale. Time for another boss fight. ================ Boss ================ Night Stalker Class: Wind HP: 2500 Win: Kid's Room Key ================ Party/Levels: Yuri - 27 Alice - 26 Halley - 24 ================ This boss will spend some turns using stat-boosting abilities on himself. This is to your advantage, as the amount of damage you can deal in those turns far outweighs the amount that it helps him. Have Yuri fuse and beat on the boss, have Halley use his Strong Earth attack for strong damage. Your third character should heal as needed and use spells/attacks when they get a free turn. This boss should go down within 3-4 rounds of attack. ================ Enter the room on the left now for a scene. You receive the Guestroom Key. Search this room for a Seal of Luck, Pure Extract, and Monkey Paw. Head back to the main hall, go up the stairs, and enter the room on the left. There's a Lottery Ticket in the fireplace. Through the successful completion of a normal ring, you can grab a picture from the desk in the middle of the room. You can ready the diary on the other desk for more information. At this point, inspect the ledges in front of each door on the second floor to find a Zodiac Bracelet (on the left) and an Eye of Ouroboros (on the right). Enter the door on the right. There is a lock on the door. Think back to that picture you saw. "5, March, 75" "What month is March?" If you still haven't put two and two together, the code is 5375 (March being the third month of the year). In this rooms fireplace you find Monk Earrings. You can complete another normal ring in this desk to find another diary. This diary has some dark background information on the owner's of the mansion. Examine the painting on the north wall for another date. Use the same system you used for the last one to get the next code, "3754." Head to the main hall, save your game, and then use this code on the last door. Before you enter, I recommend equipping Mirror Bracelets on your party. A scene plays out, ultimately culminating in another boss fight. ================ Boss ================ Jack Class: Water HP: 2500 Win: Seal of Speed ================ Party/Levels: Yuri - 27 Alice - 26 Halley - 24 ================ Stick with the standard strategy of having Yuri fuse and beat on the boss while Alice keeps everyone healthy. Halley should use physical attacks, only using his healing spell when it's absolutely necessary. If anyone becomes paralyzed, have them use their turn to use an Angel's Feather (unless it's Yuri, have someone else heal him, so he can continue to attack). Not a very hard boss fight, but that's just because it's part one of two. ================ Another boss fight starts after Jack is downed. ================ Boss ================ Mammon Class: Earth HP: 4500 Win: Demon Earrings ================ Party/Levels: Yuri - 28 Alice - 28 Halley - 26 ================ The Mirror Bracelets you hopefully equipped will prevent her from petrifying your characters. Have Yuri go about this battle as usual. Halley should use Air Edge on Yuri for an added boost against this boss. Your third character should be doing a lot of healing here, with Halley as the back-up healer. Yuri is the main attacker as usual, never skipping a turn to heal. As this beast gets low on health, it starts using a spell to heal itself for about 550 HP. This makes your job a bit harder, so just double your efforts on taking it's health down and you should come out victorious. ================ The scene continues. Afterwards, speak to Joshua and give him the slingshot Halley came equipped with. When that's over, leave the city and go to Calios Mental Hospital. Time for a few regular fights and a short scene. Afterwards, you can find a chest on the left containing a Laurel Slingshot and another to the right, behind the gate, containing a Demon Ward Necklace. Enter the main door of the hospital. Two more guards confront the party here. Take them out as well. In the corner of this hall you'll find a Bronze Coin, now turn right and leave the screen. Two more guards make a stand against our party here, you know what to do. At the corner of this hall, you find a chest containing a Lottery Ticket. In the next room you see a scene. Leave the room and you will meet two more guards, don't they ever learn? Examine the glittering object on the ground to receive a Silver Coin and check out the dead body to find a Heart Key. Save your game here just to be safe and return to the first hallway. Enter the first door on the right to find a Key to Success and a Club Key. The next room on the right has a Fruit of Yggdrasil. Go to the next hallway and enter the first door to find a Diamond Key. The third room in this hall has a Gold Coin on the floor, and the fourth has a Platinum coin. Go forward through the torture chamber to the room with the fountains in the corners. At each one, choose to drop a coin in. This unlocks a path. Heal up and save your game. Head down the stairs and attempt to open the door. A scene takes place and a fight breaks out. ================ Boss ================ Raussan Class: Fire HP: 3250 Win: Spade Key ================ Party/Levels: Yuri - 30 Alice - 29 Halley - 29 ================ Have Yuri pound this boss like he has every other boss so far this game. Halley can use Aqua Blade for decent damage, and Alice can heal. This boss is pretty easy. He may get a strong attack or two in, so you might need Halley to take a break and use his healing spell, but otherwise, just keep pounding him until he goes down. ================ After the fight, a scene plays out with Halley. Go back to the second hallway and enter the second room. Grab the Dungeon Key from the chest. You may sleep in the bed here to restore your party (like an inn). A scene takes place. Afterwards, examine the chest again to find the Fire Gravestone. Sleep, go back, save your game, and then return to the dungeon to enter. A scene takes place, and then it's time to end things once and for all with Olga. ================ Boss ================ Olga Class: Darkness HP: 4000 Win: Warlock Earrings ================ Party/Levels: Yuri - 32 Alice - 30 Halley - 30 ================ Fight this fight like you did the last Olga fight. You should have Yuri fuse into his strongest fusion (should be level 2 by now) and have Alice use Holy Edge on him. Let him pound this boss for quite a lot of damage. Halley should spend his turns using his strongest attack. When needed, have him use his healing spell. Keep your team healthy and keep taking down her HP. She'll go down soon enough. ================ After some more scenes, we arrive back in London, at the London Rats hideout. Head downstairs and save your game. You may notice a red board leading off to the left. This leads to the Pit Fight #2. Look in the Sidequests section for more info. If you speak to Joshua at this point, he'll hand over the Oath Grail. We'll be using that later on so get it. Attempt to enter the church, completing a Push Ring first. Enter the church and go to the second confessional in the back, on the right. Examine the wall to trigger a spin ring 3. You arrive back in London. Form a party that includes Halley, and then talk to Joshua. He will give Halley the Improved Slingshot. You can edit your party now if you wish. At this point, you may want to complete some little sidequests. First, I'd try to find most of the Gravestone items, so you have access to level 3 Fusions in the next dungeon. ================================ Revisiting Europe <wk028> ================================ Item List --------- Items in this area: - Deathblade Jiru (Calios Mental Hospital) - Draze (Orphanage) - Water Gravestone (Rouen) - Air Gravestone (Prague) - Earth Gravestone (Bistritz) - Dark Gravestone (Blue Castle) This section is dedicated to simply revisiting many of the places we've already explored in order to find items left lying around. First, go to Calios Mental Hospital. In the room where we fought Olga, examine the sheets lying on the ground to find Keith's weapon, Deathblade Jiru. There is also a lottery member in the torture room from whom you can win the Eternity Card, the fifth and final guild card. After this, go back to the Orphanage and explore behind the curtain in the room where the party confronted Jack to find a weapon for Margarete, the Draze. Make your way to Rouen, enter the inn, and go up the stairs to trigger dialogue between a man and a woman. Go into the room at the top of the stairs and speak to them. From here, enter the church through the alley door. Go into the confessional to hear the man from before start confessing. You're given three possible solutions to recommend. Here are the respective outcomes: 1) "Give her a diamond, as promised" - Meeting John back at the inn will prompt him to sell you the stone for 3000, as he needs money for the diamond you suggested he give his wife. 2) "It's about love, not the ring" - Back at the inn, John will give you the stone for free. This is the best of the possible choices. 3) "Maybe it'd be better to split up" - The couple will no longer be found together at the inn. John will be found alone on the street in Rouen, having left his wife, presumably. He will still sell you the ring, but this time for 10,000. This is the worst of the three choices. Either way, take your new Water Gravestone and leave for Prague. Go into the bar. Talk to the owner at the counter who asks if you'll go into the men's room to check on Darcie, who's been in there awhile. Examine the stall in order to help him out. On your way out of the bar, Darcie stops you and gives you a gift for helping him out back there. It's the Air Gravestone. Next, visit Bistritz and Terry's shop. Examine the sparkle just outside the door to find that a sprout has started to grow. Go inside to talk to Nina. Examine the sprout again and choose to watch over it. Leave town, just to the world map, and then return. Choose to watch over it again, leave, and return. Repeat this process until Nina is found standing by the sprout. She gives you the Earth Gravestone. Make your way over to the Blue Castle and climb the tower to where you fought Yuri. Examine the sparkle on the ground to pick up the Dark Gravestone. Go down to the bottom floor, examine the machines, and then follow the path off to the left around the back until you reach a chest containing the Light Gravestone. Exit the house and head down the dirt path. If you go around the ruins to the left, there's a Mant.OfNobility hidden behind a wall. Head through the archway to the northeast for a scene. Go down the path to the right and search around to find a Talisman of Power. Return to the strange little man's house to continue this lengthy and plot-heavy scene. You may now shop at the shiny pink/purple vending machine in the northern part of the room. They have new weapons and armor for sale there. Leave and return to the ruined monastery for a scene. Now go down the steps into the pits of this ancient hole. There's a save point here, make use of it. Roger will heal you whenever you need it, so don't worry too much. A scene occurs here. After it's finished, head inside. Once inside, head west two screens. Somewhat hidden straight in front of you is a chest containing a Mauser Prototype. At the fork, head to the east. Follow this path and exit to the right. Close the treasure chest you see here. Go back to the first screen and then head east, continuing east down the stairs you see. Open the northern chest here to take down the mist barrier. Examine the stone to light a flame in another room. Go back to the last screen. Off to the left is another chest, this one containing a Silver Wolf Fang. Open the un-guarded chest to pick up a Mind's Eye. Now return to the first room and proceed west through three exits. Go north and press the button to open the chest there. Open it to find a HolyBook- Martyrs. Continue to the west. Exit this screen southeast, and then east on the next. From the blocked yellow treasure chest, go north until you find the green switch. From here, go all the way back to the main entrance. Go east and pick up the newly unlocked Coat of the Sage to the north. Head east and deactivate the blue switch. From the first fork, go west, west, west, southwest, and southeast, and east. You should end up at the chest that had been blocked by the yellow barrier. In it is a Seal of Vitality. Go back two screens and enter the room in the middle. You'll receive the Destruction Stone. Make sure you have this item before continuing, as it's the only way to get the secret Amon fusion. From here, go southeast, east, and then east again. Pick up the Seal of Strength and Punk Jacket by the door and then use a Tent if you need it and save your game. If you have any Will Power accessories, be sure to equip them. Enter the door, continue inside, and watch the scene... ================ Boss ================ Albert Simon Class: Darkness HP: 3500 Win: None ================ Party/Levels: Yuri - 34 Alice - 32 Halley - 32 ================ Have Yuri fuse into his strongest fusion, have Alice use Holy Edge, and then beat on Albert. Alice should be healing. Don't let your party get too hurt, as you have other problems to deal with other than HP. Albert uses a Holy Chest attack that reduces your SP. Be wary of this, as the last thing we need is our main healer going Berserk. So keep your HP and SP in check, and continue to pound him. If you bought and equipped Will Powers, then this battle won't be nearly as hard. Just keep at him and he'll go down like every lackey before him, or so we thought... ================ ================ Boss ================ Amon Class: None HP: 4000 Win: Angel's Earrings ================ Party/Levels: Yuri - 34 Alice - 32 Halley - 32 ================ Without even leaving the battle screen, we see Simon fuse into Amon. Be sure to heal anyone who was low on health and SP from the last portion and buckle down, you're in for the long haul. After you're party is in fighting shape, continue to pound him as you pounded Simon, using the same strategies that worked against him. Yuri with Holy Edge won't be doing as much damage now, as this boss doesn't have a class. This boss has some strong attacks. A single- character move that does ~300-350 damage and an attack on the entire party for about 150 damage. Keep your health as high as possible and slowly take him down. Be patient, and this fight will eventuallly be yours. ================ If you got the Destruction Stone, you receive the Fusion Soul Amon for your own use after the fight is over. Now watch the scene. ============================== Sidequest Time! <wk030> ============================== First off, I recommend you visit Koudelka in the London Rats hideout. This triggers most of the game's sidequests. These endgame sidequests include the new Pit Fight, the Ancient Ruins, the Dollhouse, the Secret Shop, the Cave Temple, getting the Good Ending, etc. I will be doing the following: - Forbidden Documents - Cave Temple - Ancient Ruins - The Dollhouse - Getting the Good Ending - Seraphic Radiance - Margarete's Confession - Ultimate Armor/Weapon - Lottery - Gravestones - "Secret Shop" This will gain me fusions, levels, equipment, supplies, and other things that you won't have if you don't do them. For that reason, and simply to get the most out of the game, I recommend you do them as well. That does not mean you have to, however. For any sidequests you want to do, look in the Sidequest chapter to find out how. From the main entrance, go up some stairs, around to the left, and up another flight of stairs to the Northwest. A energy field is blocking the way. Go back down the stairs and from the main entrance, take the other flight up. The party starts to examine the room and Yuri and Keith become trapped. Take a party and go back the way that was previously blocked, until you reach a fork. Examine the triangular design on the wall to release Yuri and Keith. Now bring them back to the fork where Alice and the rest are. Take the Northeast path from the fork and continue up the stairs for a boss fight. ================ Boss ================ Soul Block Class: Light HP: 7000 Win: Monkey Paw ================= Party/Levels: Yuri - 48 Alice - 46 Halley - 46 ================= Physical attacks don't affect this boss, only special attacks. So fuse Yuri and use his strongest spells, keep Alice here to heal when it's needed, and have your third character use their strongest spells on the boss. ================= Three points will appear. A save point, a point to change your party at, and a point that will teleport you out of Neameto float. Heal up, save your game, and then take the Northwest path to find a Seal of Aura. Take it around to the front of the area to find a Lottery Ticket. Take the Northeast path to find Brsrkr Earrings. Walk through the green beam in the Southwest corner. Now return to the fork with the triangular design on the wall and take the left path to find Halley's Crank Slingshot. Now head back to where you fought the last boss. Exit to the north (taking the right staircase). Take a left at the fork to find a Seal of Vitality. Take the north path and pass through the purple beam. Return to the last room and take the exit to the far right. Take the left path up the stairs and continue to find a Sage Staff and SilverThreadCoat. On the right path, be sure to activate the red beam. Now, from the boss room, exit to the north, taking the left path. Go down the right path to find Monk Earrings and a Rubbet Suit. Equip yourself with Crucifixes (and Cosmic or Zodiac Bracelets on anyone who doesn't have a Crucifix). ================ Boss ================ Hate Class: Dark HP: 7000 Win: Seventh Key ================ Party/Levels: Yuri - 49 Alice - 47 Halley - 47 ================ Have Yuri fuse into his strongest fusion, let Alice cast Holy Edge on him, and being to hit the boss with physical attacks for massive damage. Have Alice heal with Arc and Cure, and let the third character attack with their strongest spells. If it gives you any idea, my Yuri was dealing around 570-280-280 with his attacks. ================ After the fight, heal with a Tent, save your game, and then go down the only path. Go up a stairway when you reach it. Continue until Yuri is warped. The party discusses the nature of this puzzle for a few minutes, so watch. Exit to the south and continue until you're warped. Go up and to the right and you're warped. Proceed up a flight of stairs out of this area. Then go down a flight. Go up some more stairs, following the path around to the stairs until you're warped again. Continue forward again to be warped, and then grab the TalismanofPower out of the treasure chest. Exit this screen to the left and then turn to the right to grab the V-blade-Blodauth. Continue in the same direction until you're warped. Pick up the Fifth Key and then go to the left to be warped. Equip Crucifixes/Leonardo's Bears on everyone and then continue up the stairs to fight... ================ Boss ================ Scapegoat Class: Wind HP: 7500 Win: Crucifix ================ Party/Levels: Yuri - 51 Alice - 48 Halley - 48 ================ Have Yuri fuse into his strongest fusion and attack the boss. Alice should stand by to use Arc/Cure when needed, and your third character can attack with their strongest attacks. If you brought Keith, have him use Earth Edge on Yuri to do extra damage to this boss. He does have dangerous Instant Death attacks, which is why we equipped our Crucifixes. ================ Heal up and save your game once again. Now equip Will Powers on your characters along with their Crucifixes. Continue forward until Albert confronts the party. Time for another fight. ================ Boss ================ Messiah Class: None HP: 8000 Win: Silver Hand ================ Party/Levels: Yuri - 51 Alice - 49 Halley - 49 ================ Your Will Powers protect against his Holy Chest SP-reducing attack. Have Yuri fuse and attack with his strongest attacks. Messiah sometimes will use !!! to reduce one character to 1 HP. This can be dangerous. Alice should almost constantly be using Arc, while Yuri attacks, and your third character attacks when they can and uses spells/items to heal as needed. Be patient, and try to keep your HP up, and this fight shouldn't be too hard. ================ Watch the scene that takes place, and then it's time to fight God himself. ================ Boss ================ Meta-God Class: None HP: 12,000 Win: None ================ Party/Levels: Yuri - 52 Alice - 50 Halley - 50 ================ Fuse Yuri into Amon (or Seraphic Radiance if you have it) and pound the boss with his strongest physical attacks. Since this is the last battle, don't bother saving all those rare items you've been collecting throughout the game. Items like Fruit of Yggdrasil, Star Swallow (use this on Yuri), Moon Swallow, Silver Hand, Key to Success, and the different numbered Keys. These items make this fight pretty easy. Your Crucifixes protect you against status attacks, so you just have to worry about your HP/MP. Have Alice heal with Arc, and have the third character use items to boost the party and restore their HP/MP. Go all out in this fight, and you should easily come out the victor. ================ Congratulations, you just beat Shadow Hearts! Sit back and enjoy the ending. =============================================================================== vi) Sidequests <sq*> =============================================================================== ============================== Pit Fight (Round 1) <sq001> ============================== In the back of the bar in Shanghai is an operation where you can pit one of your characters against a series of tough enemies in order to win prizes. You'll fight groups of creatures from before. Examples of these include Ogre Flames (floating fire skulls you encountered on the Smuggler's Boat), Hellcats (from Zhaoyang Village), Kappas and a Water Tiger (same formation as you encountered upon leaving the Sewers in Fengtian. Also, you'll face bosses such as Yamaraja:Earth (Zhaoyang Village), Beast Dog (Fengtian), Yamaraja:Wind (Dalian), Li Li (Smuggler's Boat), and even two enhanced Wind Shears. These two can be strong and inflict statuses as well. If you win ten fights in a row, you are rewarded with 5000 Cash. If Yuri wins ten fights, he will also win an Anne's Cross, a memento from his mother. For this, I recommend only bothering to complete it with Yuri, unless you want the experience for another character. I had no trouble when I went through with him at level 19. As for strategy, I recommend a combination of a Flash Badge and Mind's Eye equipped on Yuri to increase damage output. The only time where this can begin to hurt you is when facing Yamaraja:Wind, who is immune to physical attacks. To get here, take the Smuggler's Boat from Shanghai to Kowloon Fortress. Note that you have to have correctly answered the questions during the scene with Alice and Dehuai to make this trip available. The first man on your right is a lottery member. Make sure to leave with his Mind's Eye equipment. It can be very helpful. It's a challenging ring, so you might want to save first (to save yourself some lottery tickets). There is also a Silent Peddler on the left to get some supplies from if you have earned the steps. He also sells normal goods in exchange for your money. Head into the alley to the north. Grab the Mana Root to the left of the stairs and then exit through that stairway. Exit this area up the stairs to the east. Down the stairs, over, and around the back of the other set of stairs to find a chest containing Yuri's Hand Needle weapon. Exit to the east. Head to the table at the bottom of the screen and examine it to find Wugui's Room Key. Take the ladder up and go to the left, examining the area for a hidden chest containing Face Guard. Go back two screens, and then go north up the alley, taking the other set of stairs up to the west. Proceed forward, up the set of stairs, and then enter the orange door at the top of the stairs. Take a few steps forward and examine the crates to find a Seal of the Soul. Exit this room at the northeast end. Grab the crate right in front of you to find a Thera Root. Go up the nearby stairs, grab the Pure Root, and then follow the path to find a Soul Benediction. Examine the urinal to the right to find a Lottery Ticket. Continue along your way, stop at the save point, rest up, and then enter the door on your right to find some gruesome happenings. Watch the scene and a fight erupts. ================ Boss ================ Cursed Puppet Class: Darkness HP: 900 Win: Seal of Wisdom ================ Party/Levels: Yuri - 17 Zhuzhen - 16 Margarete - 15 ================ This fight against Wugui is like any other. Equip Leonardo's Bears to protect against his death attacks and don't use special attacks against him. Have Yuri transform into a strong fusion and use his regular attacks. I had Yuri equip the Mind Eye and Flash Badge. This made hitting every area of his ring difficult, but the damage when I hit, and the amount of turns he took, more than made up for it. I had Margarete and Zhuzhen attack and heal as needed. A relatively easy fight if you came prepared (Leonardo's Bears). ================ After the battle, you may leave Kowloon fortress the way you came in. =============================== Pit Fight (Round 2) <sq003> =============================== This Pit Fight opens up once you've rescued Koudelka. Some of the London Rats begin to run this operation in the basement. This should be done right before going to fight the final bosses, as you'll need all the items, equipment, and experience you can get to survive these fights. This Pit Fight is much easier than the first, since you can equip yourself better, as well as level up more, in preparation for it. Here are the possible prizes for having each character go through ten straight fights: Yuri - Seventh Key Alice - Crucifix Zhuzhen - Silver Hand Margarete - Tissues Keith - Belt of Thor Halley - Metal Jacket All Characters - Crystal Ring ================================== The Good Ending <sq004> ================================== Item List --------- Items in this area: - Seven-Eyed Mask At any point before you have the "dream sequence" and Alice fights Atman and loses, this quest may be completed. You should have the Oath Grail, if not, go get it from Josua at the London Rats hideout. Now go fill up your malice, all the way to the red. Do this at a place where you can fight easy groups of enemies. Blue Castle works. Afterwards, the four masks will start to come for you instead of the usual Fox Face. Beat them in this order: Grail, Gold, Staff, and Sword. If they do not appear in that order (they rarely do) simply run from the battle. At this point, you have to have defeated the four masks and Albert Simon (in Nemeton Monastery). Also make sure Yuri has examined the small tombstone in the Graveyard to check that it reads "Rest in Peace, Alice Elliot...". Now go back to Nemeton Monastery. Talk to Roger and he'll let you rest. In her sleep, Alice will be taken to the graveyard, make sure she examines every tombstone there and talk to the masks. They will have her face Atman. If you did it right, she will not lose automatically as usual, Yuri will come and save her. You will now face Atman with Yuri and Alice. ================ Boss ================ Atman Class: None HP: 9000 Win: None ================ Party/Levels: Yuri - 42 Alice - 41 ================ Have Yuri fuse into his strongest fusion and pound the boss. Alice should heal the entire fight. If you get in a pinch, you can have Yuri skip a turn to heal someone in need, though try not to. It's really not that hard of a fight. ================ After the fight, check back in the Graveyard to make sure the tombstone reads "Atman" instead of "Alice Elliot". If so, you've successfully triggered the Good Ending. Talk to the masks to receive a prize, the Seven-Eyed Mask. Now when you beat the game, the final cutscene will be different. You may not want to complete this quest, though, as the Bad ending is the "true" ending as far as storyline goes. ====================================== The Forbidden Documents <sq005> ====================================== This sidequest is needed to complete several other sidequests, and so I advise that you finish this one. You need to find the three books stolen from the Vatican, the three biggest reasons that all of this has taken place. 1) Codex of Lurie - After visiting Halley and Koudelka in the London Rats Hideout, return to Nemeton Monastery and proceed to where you fight Albert Simon. You will find this lying on the ground. 2) Book of Rituals - With Zhuzhen and Alice in your party, go to the Nemeton Monastery and examine the grave off to the left. Zhuzhen gives you the book. 3) Emigre Manuscript - Return to the orphanage. The children here want to play hide-and-seek. You have a minute to find four children scattered about the orphanage. It isn't very hard. Try it once or twice and eventually you'll get it. The prize is the Emigre Manuscript. After acquiring each one, be sure to examine it. Examining them opens up the Cave Temple and Ancient Ruins sidequests. ================================ The Cave Temple <sq006> ================================ Item List --------- Items in this area: - Priest's Earrings - Lottery Ticket - Mant.ofShivering - Fifth Key - Key to Success This is opened after examining the Emigre Manuscript. You can get here from the World Map. This place is a giant maze, so be careful. A map of it is carved into the wall of the first room. The first room is the bottom-right tile on the map. Follow that path to reach the end succesfully, here is a set of directions. Enter the door to the north to begin. Here is a list of directions from there: 1) Go north, grab the Priest's Earrings and go back 2) Go west 3) Go north 4) Go west 5) Go south two screens 6) Go west 7) Go north, grab the Lottery Ticket and go back 8) Go west 9) Go north 10) Go west (There should be a save point on this screen) 11) Go north Pick up the Mant.ofShivering and leave the Cave Temple. Examine the Emigre Manuscript a second time and return. The puzzle has been rearranged this time. Here's a new set of directions for getting through: 1) Go north, grab the Fifth Key, and go back 2) Go east 3) Go north 4) Go east 5) Go south two screens 6) Go east 7) Go north, grab the Key to Success, and go back 8) Go east 9) Go north 10) Go east Now save your game, heal up, equip every Crucifix you have (at least Mirror Bracelets) and get ready for a long fight. Go north. ================ Boss ================ Cherubim Class: None HP: 10,000 Win: Holy Peak Staff ================ Party/Levels: Yuri - 43 Alice - 42 Halley - 41 ================ Like always, have Yuri fuse and pound the boss. The boss has strong attack-all moves that do decent damage and cause bad statuses. This is why we have those Crucifixes. If not, at least we can prevent Petrification with the Mirror Bracelets. One thing to remember is to NEVER use special attacks against this boss, as they will simply be absorbed. Have Alice heal using Arc (or Cure if you don't yet have Arc) and your third character attack, stopping to heal when neccesary. This boss has a lot of HP, so this fight will take a little while. If you keep at it, you will come out the winner. ================ ================================= Ancient Ruins <sq007> ================================= Item List --------- Items in this area: - Angel Earrings - Gold Thread Coat - Lottery Ticket Go forwards until you reach a three-way fork. Pick up the Angel Earrings. You will have to pass through several rooms like this, picking the correct exit each time. Think back to the phrase "Cross the rainbow, then follow the drops of blood to the royal garden". Go in the order of the rainbow: Red Orange Yellow Green Blue (light blue) Indigo (dark blue) Violet You end up back in the main entrance. Go down the stairs in the center to pick up Alice's ultimate armor, Gold Thread Coat. Now leave and examine the Book of Rituals again. Re-enter the dungeon and go through it again. This time, do it in the order of the colors of the rainbow, but backwards: Violet Indigo (dark blue) Blue (light blue) Green In this room, stop and pick up a Lottery Ticket from a chest. Yellow Orange Red You once again arrive in the main chamber. Heal up if needed, save your game, equip your Crucifixes again, and head down the stairs for a fight. ================ Boss ================ Seraphim Class: None HP: 4000 Win: Volt Snipe ================ Party/Levels: Yuri - 46 Alice - 44 Halley - 44 ================ The Crucifixes protect you from his bad statuses, so just worry about healing your HP. Have Yuri and your third character pound him while Alice uses Arc and Cure as needed. Seraphim hits hard, so don't be stingy with Alice's spells. This boss has less HP than his Cave Temple counterpart, so Yuri should take him down quicker. ================ ================================== Seraphic Radiance <sq008> ================================== Item List --------- Items in this area: - Pulse Tract - Stone of Rebirth You must have completed the Cave Temple, Ancient Ruins, and Dollhouse quests as well as acquired Amon to complete this quest. You also must have all of the level three fusions (see the Gravestone section for more information on doing that). This is the sidequest that rewards you with the god of all fusions. The monster Dehuai summoned and Yuri tried to fuse with, nearly killing him. Through this quest, Yuri will be able to conquer that beast and put it to good use. Start off by reading the Erotic Book in your inventory and then take it to Roger Bacon. He exchanges it for the Pulse Tract. Examine that in your inventory and then return to the Ancient Ruins. Go through it again, in this order: Yellow, Red, Green, Violet, (dark) Blue, Red, (light) Blue. Open the chest down the stairs to receive a Stone of Rebirth. Examine it in your inventory. Now equip Yuri with his strongest equipment (don't bother with a Crucifix), stock up on Thera Extracts (Secret Shop or from trading in steps), make sure he's in a healthy condition, save your game, and go to the Graveyard. Head through the gate to the area where you've seen several scenes with Ben Hyuga. Examine the tree for a comment on the sunset. This battle will be a relatively easy exchange of blows. If Yuri is stronger, he will prevail, if not, then you need to level up, as you would have had no chance with the next boss... ================ ================ Boss ================ Seraphic Radiance Class: None HP: 5000 Win: Diamond Ring ================ Party/Levels: Yuri - 50 ================ This boss uses physical attacks and occasionally an attack called Malcto that drains Yuri's HP in order to heal it. You need to be strong enough (health-wise) to take two hits without dying. One hit to start, and then you attack, and then another hit, and then you heal with a Thera Extract (now you understand why I told you to bring a lot of them). This is going to be the battle pattern. Repetitive, boring, but it works. If Yuri does not have enough health, but you don't want to level him up, equip Brskr Earrings on him to increase his max HP. Good luck! ================ ================================== The Dollhouse <sq009> ================================== Item List --------- Items in this area: - Oracle Earrings - Lottery Ticket - Storeroom Key - Crank - Silver Hand - Slide Plate - Crucifix To activate this sidequest, enter Prague. There's a hysterical man in the bar babbling about a haunted house that he needs exorcised. Leave Prague and enter the Dollhouse. Examine the area off to the left to find Oracle Earrings. Enter the main door. Enter the room to the right to pick up a Lottery Ticket. Exit this room to the north. Examine the fountain to start a somewhat difficult Push Ring which, upon completion, gives you a Storeroom Key. When you return to the main entrance, you can examine the clock to find a Crank. Now leave the house and open the previously-locked door off to the left. Examine the generator to the left to get some light in the room. Among the shelves is a Silver Hand. Go down the ladder here. Among some of the wine is a Slide Plate, take it. If you take the Slide Plate up to the second floor of the house, you can use a projector to see it played. The date is December 24th. Now go back downstairs, heal up, save your game, and enter the passcode "1224" into the dial on the fireplace. Now return to the Storeroom, go down the ladder, and exit the wine cellar out the back door. Examine the room, grab the Crucifix at the back of the room (and equip one on every party member) and then attempt to leave. A short scene and a fight take place. ================ Boss ================ Orb Chaos Class: Holy HP: 7500 Win: Holy Book-Flesh ================ Party/Levels: Yuri - 45 Alice - 42 Halley - 43 ================ Have Yuri fuse into his strongest non-Light Class fusion and pound the boss, Have Alice on healing duty, and have your third character beat on the boss to augment Yuri's damage and occasionally stop to heal someone in need. This boss will probably waste several moves using stat-boosting spells. Make it pay for wasting its turns like that by cutting a hole so deep into its HP, no stat-boost can save it. Not a hard fight if you brought Crucifixes. ================ After a short scene, consider this quest over. ====================================== Margarete's Confession <sq010> ====================================== If you return to Rouen with Margarete in your party, and enter the church (where you fought Olga), she will ask to speak in the confessional. If you hear her out, she gives you a Pearl Ring. ==================================== Ultimate Weapons/Armor <sq011> ==================================== This is an ongoing quest to acquire every character's Ultimate Weapon and Ultimate Armor. Many are part of other quests, so I point you towards them for more information on how to find it. 1) Yuri Ultimate Weapon: After the events leading up to the party teleporting up the float, speak to Roger Bacon. He wants Yuri to run on the generator to allow Bacon to teleport to the moon. This pits you, the player, against the toughest Spin Ring this game has to offer. A Spin Ring 10, yes, 10 times around, hitting all three areas. This took me many tries to get. I can only give you vague tips here: First, try to pick up a rhythm as it gets faster, if you can do this, you have a much better chance of completing it, as you can keep up with the growing speed. Also, persistence. Don't give up after your second or third try, I didn't get it on my first few playthroughs and when I did get it, it took me about four tries. You receive Yuri's Ultimate Weapon, the Nightbird Claw. Ultimate Armor: For his Ultimate Armor, you must complete the Seraphic Radiance quest, as his Father's Coat is award for a victory against Seraphic Radiance. 2) Alice Ultimate Weapon: Complete the Dollhouse quest. The Holy Book-Flesh is dropped by Orb Chaos. Ultimate Armor: Her Gold Thread Coat is picked up during the Ancient Ruins quest. 3) Zhuzhen Ultimate Weapon: It is awarded for beating the boss in the Cave Temple sidequest. Ultimate Armor: Return to Rouen and speak to Meiyuan in the room at the bottom of the stairs in the inn. He has a letter from Qihua, the young lady from the Shanhai bar. The letter contains his Ultimate Armor, Coat of the Adept. 4) Margarete Ultimate Weapon: Return to Rouen and play the Lottery with the member in the alley. Win the 10 Gauge, Margarete's Ultimate Weapon. Ultimate Armor: Collect 10,000 steps on the Pedometer and take it from the Silent Peddler. 5) Keith Ultimate Weapon: Ultimate Armor: You pick up his Mant.ofShivering from the Cave Temple sidequest. 6) Halley Ultimate Weapon: Complete the Ancient Ruins sidequest and you pick up his Volt Snipe. Ultimate Armor: If you fight the second Pit Fight with just Halley, you will win the Metal Jacket. ====================== Blue Castle <sq012> ====================== After you've received the Earth Stone from Nina in Bistriz, return to her house and speak with her. She will tell you of a "golden light" from inside the Blue Castle. Time to investigate. Go to Blue Castle, enter the basement, and examine the large, opened coffin. ================ Boss ================ Golden Bat Class: None HP: 1200 Win: DemonSwd-Tyrving ================ Party/Levels: Keith - 22 ================ You must defeat this bat in five turns, so unleash your combos to finish him off. Equip Atk boosting items and maybe even a Mind's Eye to help finish him quick enough. ================ For beating Keith's batty brother, you get to keep the family heirloom, the DemonSwd-Tyrving. ====================== Lottery <sq013> ====================== Throughout the game, you will find people who will play the Lottery game with you. It can only be played if you have a Lottery Ticket, however. The game is very rewarding, as each person has a grand prize which is usually very difficult to win, but the prize it worth it. So whenever you see a Lottery Ticket on the Item Checklist for an area, be sure to pick it up! There are a limited amount in the game. Also, save before you play the game to make sure you win the prize you wanted, and don't waste a Lottery Ticket. They are each found in a different way. Earth Gravestone ---------------- After the events at Calios Mental Hospital, return to Bistriz. Examine the plant outside of Nina's house. Choose to watch over it, water it, and leave the town. Return and do the same. Continue this process until Nina is found standing over the plant. She will give Yuri the Earth Gravestone. Water Gravestone ---------------- Go to one of the rooms in the hotel in Rouen. A family is arguing about a ring. Go to the confessional to meet the husband, and tell him that love is what really matters. If you visit him again in the hotel room, you are rewarded with a Water Gravestone. If you wait until after the events at Nemeton Monastery to go in search of this gravestone, you'll find that he has already split up with his wife and is on the street willing to sell you the stone for 10,000 coins. Air Gravestone -------------- In Prague, talk to the man in the bar who mentions someone who's been in the bathroom for awhile. Check the stalls for the man, and you find out he just needs toilet paper. Give him a Tissue and be rewarded with an Air Gravestone when he comes out. Fire Gravestone --------------- The room in Calios Mental Hospital that is unlocked with the Spade Key has a treasure chest. Open it up, take the item, and then examine it again to find the Fire Gravestone. Light Gravestone ---------------- This Gravestone is found in Roger's house near Nemeton Monastery. Dark Gravestone --------------- This is found in the room where Yuri was staying in Blue Castle, at the top of the dungeon tower. =============================================================================== vii) Hints/Tricks/Secrets <hnt*> =============================================================================== This section is dedicated to little secrets and things that don't really fit well into the main Walkthrough and aren't large enough to warrant a sidequest of their own. 1) The Pedometer The Pedometer is received after talking to a Peddler in Fengtian. It counts your steps taken in an area in which random encounters occur, which can then be traded in for items at any Silent Peddler found throughout the game. Here is a list of items that you can receive, and the number of steps needed for each one: Thera Extract.....100 Voodoo Doll.......300 Weird Bottle......800 Iron Clogs........1500 Flash Badge.......2500 Moon Swallow......3500 Star Swallow......5000 Monkey Paw........6500 Silver Hand.......7000 Belt of Power.....8000 Leather Suit......10,000 It is usually in your best interest to simply spend all of your steps on Thera Extracts, as they are very good to have later in the game, and are expensive at the only store that sells them, so it's best to get them without spending any money. You can also find an Accelerator to multiply the number of steps you rack up with the Pedometer, ultimately making it easier to get more items from the Silent Peddlers. The Accelerator can be found in a Lottery game. You can win it from Lottery Member #6, in Rouen. 2) Finding the Guild Cards There are a total of 5 Guild Cards throughout the game that are used to get discounts on things you buy and increase the price of things you sell. Here's a list of them all and where to find them: a) Snake Card - After completing the events at Zhaoyang Village, speak to the Peddler there and he rewards you with the Snake Card. b) Star Card - In Shanghai, go to the Smuggler's Boat at the docks and head below- deck. There is a lottery member here. The main prize is the Star Card. c) Moon Card - In Nina's shop in Bistritz. It's hidden among some crate's on the right. d) Sun Card - Can be bought from a man in a suit in front of the hotel when you first enter London:Old Castle Street. e) Eternity Card - After the events at Calios Mental Hospital, return and enter the torture chamber (room with the chair in the center). There is a lottery member in the chair. His main prize is the Eternity Card. 3) Money-making tips/tricks Here I will detail one way to make a quick buck or two throughout the game as well as one way to get as much cash as you could possibly want near the end of the game. a) To get some quick cash, just collect some steps with the Pedometer, trade them in for Thera Extracts, and then sell a few of the Thera Extracts. I recommend keeping a few, as they become very helpful later on, but sell some as you go to make extra cash. NOTE: THIS NEXT TRICK IS NOT MY OWN, IT IS FROM THE MONEY TRICK FAQ BY BAXIL!!! b) This trick takes advantage of the fact that you can reduce the price of something you buy by 50%. You normally sell things at 50%. So doing this without raising the price results in no loss. However, if you raise the price even 5%, you make a profit. Continue to do this and make loads of cash. There are three factors determining which shop you'll want to earn cash from: * How close the shop is to a Save Point. In my opinion, this is the most critical factor. * The price of the most expensive item it sells. The more it costs, the more efficiently the trick works in the long run. * The music that plays while you're shopping. Don't laugh. This can make a HUGE difference in how pleasant the process is. You'll be hearing it a lot. Go into the shop with your starting bankroll. Pick the most expensive item in the store (or any item that you don't have the money to buy 99 of) and keep pressing right on the control pad until the numbers stop climbing. This will get you to buy a stack of as many of the items as you can afford, TAKING INTO ACCOUNT THE 50% DISCOUNT. You do NOT want to manually select only as many items as you can afford at retail price, because that cuts the efficiency of the process dramatically! (And don't worry about failing and earning penalty points on your Guild Card, because if you fail, you're going to reload your saved game anyway.) Beat ALL FIVE Ring Tests. You MUST buy at -50% to earn a profit this way; reload the game you just saved if you fail. (Exit the shop and go into the "Data" section of the menu screen. Shadow Hearts is nice about letting you reload at any time.) It may take you a few reloads to beat the tests, but sooner or later you will have a shiny new stack of items and no cash left. SAVE YOUR GAME AGAIN. Go back to the shop. Select "Sell" and dump the entire stack of items that you've just bought. You must "Raise Price" at least once for a profit, but if you can hit a -50% Ring Test, you should have no problem hitting +15%, +20% or even +25%. Raise the price as far as you feel comfortable. If you fail a test and sell at retail, reload your game and try again. When you sell for a profit, SAVE YOUR GAME again and repeat the process! That's it! Keep buying and selling until you have as much cash as you want! I REPEAT: THAT TRICK WAS TAKEN DIRECTLY FROM BAXIL's MONEY TRICK FAQ 4) Equipment Combinations Here are some good combinations of accessories and an explanation of what each one serves to accomplish: a) Small Jug/Mind's Eye/Flash Badge - This is a difficult combination to get used to, as the extra speed of the Flash Badge makes hitting the now-invisible hit areas difficult for physical attacks. The Small Jug makes SP decrease 2 every turn, but gives you a great stat boost. This combination makes attacking a bit more challenging, but the rewards are great. It works best with Yuri, whose extra SP makes up for the Small Jug and wide hit areas help out with the Flash Badge and Mind's Eye. I will be using this combination or a variation of it a lot throughout the game. b) Crucifix - The Crucifix blocks any and all ill status effects from affecting the wearer. This is an accessory that once found, should be equipped on someone the rest of the game. There aren't many of these, so take good care of the ones you find. - I will add more as I come up with them. I will be sure to credit any sources of information. 5) Crucifix Locations This gives a list of the locations of the five possible Crucifixes you can acquire in this game. The Crucifix is an accessory that blocks all negative status effects. a) The first one is gained automatically after a scene in the London Rats hideout in London:Old Castle Street on your first visit. b) After the events at the monastery, return and play a hide-and-seek game. There's one in each of the three rooms, and another in the corner near the save point. There is a Lottery Member in the room you fought Jack and Mammon (he is in the large vat Mammon came out of) Equip a Pocket Watch to make this lottery spin a lot easier. The main prize is the Crucifix. c) Found in the Dollhouse, in the room with Orb Chaos. See the appropriate section of the Sidequest chapter for more information. d) This one can be acquired by winning the Pit Fight at the London Rat's hideout with Alice. Unless you really need another one of these, I don't recommend getting this one. e) Won in the fight against Scapegoat in Neameto. 6) Secret Shop The Silent Peddler in Prague normally doesn't sell items, but if you beat Amon and have visited Koudelka and Halley back in London, at the hideout, he begins to sell items. He sells some very rare and valuable items at his shop. He can be found if you take the road all the way north, standing next to Meiyuan. Tight-Lipped Merchant: - Weird Bottle..............18,000 - Thera Extract.............5000 - Mana Extract..............10,000 - Pure Extract..............20,000 - Third Key.................30,000 NOTE: This shop also works well when doing the money trick Baxil provided. The Third Keys are worth a lot, and so buying and selling them makes you rich very quickly. 7) Learning ??? Skills Once you start to get Level 3 Fusion Souls, Amon, and Seraphic Radiance, you might notice these strange "???" skills that you can't use. To learn these, you must let Yuri go Berserk in battle. Just enter a random battle, have him fuse, and Defend until he runs out of SP and uses the attack. To speed up the process, try equipping a Small Jug (uses 2 SP per turn). These skills are often very strong, and are very helpful to have, so be sure to learn them before you enter that next boss battle! =============================================================================== viii) Boss List <bl*> =============================================================================== This section will essentially be a list of all of the bosses, with information identical to that found in the Walkthrough, for easy access. I may add more information in this section where I see fit. ================ Boss ================ Roger Bacon Class: Dark HP:??? Win: None Location: The Train ================ Party/Levels: Rude Hero - Level 3 ================ Just attack him a few times, in fusion mode or not, it doesn't really matter. Take this opportunity to get used to the Judgment Ring. Eventually he will attack you for 999 damage, ending the battle. ================ ================ Boss ================ Fox Face Class: Dark HP: ??? Win: None Location: The Plains ================ Party/Levels: Yuri - Level 3 ================ This is another un-winnable battle. I recommend choosing the defend command until Fox Face takes you down to 1 HP with an attack called "!!!." He'll then proceed to finish you off. ================ ================ Boss ================ Felinus Class: Wind HP:250 Win: Lottery Ticket Location: Zhaoyang Village ================ Party/Levels: Yuri - 6 Alice - 6 Zhuzhen - 6 ================ Have Yuri transform into Raging Tiger and use the Flying Stones attack as well as physical attacks. Felinus is weak to these attacks, so this should help cause great damage to her. Have Alice attack and heal when she is needed, and have Zhuzhen use Ogre Flamedance. This boss should go down pretty quickly. ================ ================ Boss ================ Yamaraja: Earth HP:300 Class: Water Win: Star Brooch Location: Zhaoyang Village ================ Party/Levels: Yuri - 7 Alice - 7 Zhuzhen - 7 ================ Yes, this boss really is Water class, not Earth. I don't know why... Have Yuri fuse into Raging Tiger and use physical attacks mixed with Flying Stone if you want, have Alice heal with Cure, and have Zhuzhen spam Ogre Flamedance. Try to go for Perfect on Ogre Flamedance, though if you're not comfortable enough with the Judgment ring, don't, as it's better to get the normal damage than a miss. If you keep Alice healing on every turn, and have the other two attack, stopping to heal only if you feel you really need it, then this battle should go by without too much trouble. If Alice's SP reaches 1, use a Pure Leaf on her. ================ =============== Boss =============== Beast Dog Class: Fire HP: 450 Win: Spikes Location: Fengtian Airstrip =============== Party/Levels: Yuri - 9 Alice - 9 Margarete - 9 =============== This boss is of the Fire Class, which means he's weak against Water. Use Margarete's Aqua Edge skill on Yuri to make his attacks do much more damage against the boss. Have Yuri fuse to add even more strength to his attacks. Margarete should commence a barrage of Grenades, stopping only when Alice alone can't keep the party alive to use a Thera Leaf. Alice, obviously, should just keep a constant stream of Cure spells going. =============== ================ Boss ================ Yamaraja: Wind Class: Earth HP: 800 Win: Seal of Life Location: Dalian ================ Party/Levels: Yuri - 10 Margarete - 10 Zhuzhen - 10 ================ Have Yuri fuse to Death Emperor and spam Dark Messenger, have Margarete spend her attacking turns using Grenade, and have Zhuzhen use Ogre Flamedance. Heal your party with Thera Leaves. This battle is simply a test of endurance. Yuri should always attack, and Zhuzhen and Margarete should alternate between attacking and using Thera Leaves as necessary. As long as you can dish out some strong hits, you should be able to take this beast down before it takes you down. One last tip, keep track of how much health this boss has, as well as how much damage you're doing, that way you can decide whether to heal or just finish the battle once you get the boss low enough on HP. ================ ================ Boss ================ Li Li Class: Dark HP: 550 Win: W. Tiger Hair Location: Smuggler's Boat ================ Party/Levels: Yuri - 12 Alice - 12 Margarete - 12 ================ This battle is part 1 of 2, so don't blow it all here, you have to pace yourself. Start off with Yuri fusing to Raging Tiger and having Alice cast Holy Edge on him. This should give him a significant boost in damage. If you have it (which you should), have Alice cast Blessed Light on Li Li for strong damage. Margarete should keep the party healthy with Thera Leaves. You should try to end this battle as quickly as possible, as Li Li can cause some serious problems if given the opportunity. With Yuri attacking strong, Li Li won't last too long. Ding ding ding! Round 1, Us. Now get ready for Round 2! ================ ================ Boss ================ Li Li Class: Dark HP: 700 Win: None Location: Smuggler's Boat ================ Party/Levels: Yuri - 12 Alice - 11 Margarete - 12 ================ Start off with healing any serious injuries you may have from the last fight, and then proceed the way you did last time, with Holy Edge on Yuri and having him fuse into Raging Tiger. Alice should then spend any turns she can casting Blessed Light, though she may be stuck healing if you're unlucky. If you've begun to master Yuri's judgment ring, then he should be doing at least 100 damage every turn. Combined with Alice doing about 80-95 damage with Blessed Light, this battle will end relatively quickly. ================ =============== Boss =============== Wugui Class: Dark HP: 400 Win: Weird Bottle Location: Shanghai EXP: 1500 Gold: 4500 =============== Party/Levels: Yuri - 13 =============== His Game of Death trick won't work here, so fuse into Raging Tiger and let loose with some strong attacks. If you find you need to heal, use Raging Tiger's healing spell. =============== ================ Boss ================ Xieshi Class: Fire HP: 550 Win: Jade Lariat Location: Temple Ruins ================ Party/Levels: Yuri - 14 Zhuzhen - 12 ================ Hopefully Zhuzhen has his Nourishing Potion spell, as the lack of items (and Alice) will make healing challenging in this fight. Have Yuri fuse and pound it with physical attacks, while Zhuzhen attacks with regular strikes or Ogre Flamedance. Keep your HPs up with Nourishing Potion or one of Yuri's fusion's healing spells and this is an easy battle. ================ ================ Boss ================ Baigu Class: Light HP: 400 Win: None Location: Temple Ruins ================ Party/Levels: Alice - 12 Margarete - 13 ================ Have Margarete attack every turn unless it is completely necessary that she heal. Have Alice throw Thera Leafs whenever they're needed, keeping everyone's HP up. Play it safe and whittle it's health down to win this fight easily. ================ =========== Boss =========== Qinngu Class: Water HP: 700 Win: Leonardo's Bear Location: Temple Ruins =========== Party/Levels: Yuri - 15 Zhuzhen - 13 =========== There is nothing you can do to heal, at all. Just pound this boss and hope you can kill it before it kills you. If you equipped Yuri with the Flash Badge, get ready for some fast rings, as it greatly increases the speed of his Judgment Ring. If you have a lot of trouble, try leveling up some. The key to winning is the Flash Badge. Yuri will get enough turns in to kill the boss, as long as you don't miss with his Judgment Ring. =========== ================ Boss ================ Yamaraja: War Class: Dark HP: 850 Win: R. Phoenix Talon Location: Temple Ruins ================ Party/Levels: Yuri - 16 Zhuzhen - 14 Margarete - 13 ================ The Leonardo's Bears protect against Instant Death from his Game of Death attack. He will absorb all special attacks thrown at him, so don't even bother. Just pound him, healing as needed (which will probably be a lot). Have Zhuzhen use Nourishing Potion to heal and when needed, Margarete can use a Thera Leaf. If you can endure his attacks and whittle his health down, I can guarantee you a win. Don't forget to fuse Yuri before you let loose with your physical attacks. Equip Leonardo's Bears to protect against his death attacks and don't use special attacks against him. Have Yuri transform into a strong fusion and use his regular attacks. I had Yuri equip the Mind Eye and Flash Badge. This made hitting every area of his ring difficult, but the damage when I hit, and the amount of turns he took, more than made up for it. I had Margarete and Zhuzhen attack and heal as needed. A relatively easy fight if you came prepared (Leonardo's Bears) ================ ================ Boss ================ Yamaraja: Stone Class: Fire HP: 1800 Win: B. Dragon Horn Location: Kuihai Tower ================ Party/Levels: Yuri - 18 Zhuzhen - 16 Margarete - 16 ================ Have Yuri fuse, Margarete cast Aqua Edge on him, and let him loose on this water beast. Have Margarete and Zhuzhen attack, healing when it's needed. This shouldn't be too hard of a fight, really. Just hit him and heal when he hits you. Let Margarete be your secondary attacker and Zhuzhen act as your dedicated healer for this fight. If it's an emergency, have Margarete skip an attacking turn to heal someone in need. Try to keep Yuri on the assault, however. =============== ================ Boss ================ Yamaraja: Calamity Class: None HP: 2900 Win: Fifth Key Location: Kuihai Tower ================ Party/Levels: Yuri - 20 Zhuzhen - 19 Alice - 19 ================ He uses a lot of petrify attacks (Mirror Bracelets, to the rescue!) and some other status effects. He doesn't have a class, so just have Yuri fuse into whatever fusion you want and start attacking. Zhuzhen should use attacking spells whenever he gets the chance, and healing spells/items when needed. Alice should pretty much spend the entire battle using Cure or healing items of different sorts. You need Alice and Zhuzhen to keep the party alive long enough for Yuri to finish this boss off. Remember to heal statuses as soon as you get the chance, to prevent future problems from them. Good luck! ================ ================ Boss ================ Tindalos Class: Fire HP: 2100 Win: Iron Clogs Location: Bistritz ================ Party/Levels: Alice - 21 Zhuzhen - 21 Keith - 21 ================ Have Zhuzhen and Keith pound this boss with spells and such, whittling down his health. Alice should heal whenever someone is hurt. If she gets a free turn, use Blessed Light for some damage. If more than one person is severely injured, have Keith or Zhuzhen use a turn for healing. Not a hard fight. It may take a little while, but eventually he will go down. ================ ================ Boss ================ Yuri Class: Darkness HP: 1500 Win: None Location: Blue Castle ================ Party/Levels: Alice - 22 Zhuzhen - 22 Keith - 22 ================ Yuri uses his regular attack combo, dealing strong damage to one character at a time. Just heal whenever someone is injured (try to heal with Zhuzhen), have Alice use Holy Edge on Keith, let Keith pound away with physical attacks (or Drain Touch when he needs a few more HP). Alice can take him down with Blessed Light. When he fuses into Death Emperor, he'll use Dark Messenger. A strong attack with a chance of death (why we equipped Leonardo's Bears). This is a very slow, very painful fight. Just keep healing, doing some damage here and there, and eventually Yuri will throw in the towel. ================ ================ Boss ================ Fox Face Class: Darkness HP: 550 Win: Brass Knuckles Location: Blue Castle (Graveyard) ================ Party/Levels: Yuri - 24 ================ Have Yuri attack with his strongest combos. Don't fuse, however, as Fox Face's SP Lowering attack could cause problems if Yuri fuses. His attacks are weak, so don't worry. The only thing to be careful of is his !!! attack, which lowers Yuri's HP to 1. Heal with a Thera Seed/Thera Extract immediately! Don't take any unnecessary risks, as losing this battle puts you back before you fought Yuri. You don't want to have to go through that again. ================ ================ Boss ================ Olga Class: Darkness HP: 700 Win: Monk Earrings Location: Prague ================ Party/Levels: Alice - 22 ================ Use Blessed Light for some strong damage, and heal whenever it's needed. I recommend equipping the Brsrkr Earrings from that last lottery on her to give her some help in the HP department. Just hit her with Blessed Light, healing with Cure as needed. A very easy fight. If Alice's SP runs low, don't hesitate to use a Pure Leaf. ================ ================ Boss ================ Olga Class: Darkness HP: 3250 Win: Small Jug Location: Rouen ================ Party/Levels: Yuri - 25 Alice - 24 Zhuzhen - 22 ================ If Yuri has his best equipment, he should be dishing out heavy damage. Have him fuse and let Alice help him out with Holy Edge. Let Yuri beat on Olga the entire battle. Alice should be constantly healing. Zhuzhen/Keith/Margarete can use items/spells to heal when needed and use their strongest attacks when they get the chance. Be careful of this bosses strong attack, Black Fog. If you can recover from that every time it's used, you should have no trouble with this fight. If you have trouble with statuses, equip the right equipment to block it. ================ ================ Boss ================ Night Stalker Class: Wind HP: 2500 Win: Kid's Room Key Location: London: Orphanage ================ Party/Levels: Yuri - 27 Alice - 26 Halley - 24 ================ This boss will spend some turns using stat-boosting abilities on himself. This is to your advantage, as the amount of damage you can deal in those turns far outweighs the amount that it helps him. Have Yuri fuse and beat on the boss, have Halley use his Strong Earth attack for strong damage. Your third character should heal as needed and use spells/attacks when they get a free turn. This boss should go down within 3-4 rounds of attack. ================ ================ Boss ================ Jack Class: Water HP: 2500 Win: Seal of Speed Location: London: Orphanage ================ Party/Levels: Yuri - 27 Alice - 26 Halley - 24 ================ Stick with the standard strategy of having Yuri fuse and beat on the boss while Alice keeps everyone healthy. Halley should use physical attacks, only using his healing spell when it's absolutely necessary. If anyone becomes paralyzed, have them use their turn to use an Angel's Feather (unless it's Yuri, have someone else heal him, so he can continue to attack). Not a very hard boss fight, but that's just because it's part one of two. ================ ================ Boss ================ Mammon Class: Earth HP: 4500 Win: Demon Earrings Location: London: Orphanage ================ Party/Levels: Yuri - 28 Alice - 28 Halley - 26 ================ The Mirror Bracelets you hopefully equipped will prevent her from petrifying your characters. Have Yuri go about this battle as usual. Halley should use Air Edge on Yuri for an added boost against this boss. Your third character should be doing a lot of healing here, with Halley as the back-up healer. Yuri is the main attacker as usual, never skipping a turn to heal. As this beast gets low on health, it starts using a spell to heal itself for about 550 HP. This makes your job a bit harder, so just double your efforts on taking it's health down and you should come out victorious. ================ ================ Boss ================ Raussan Class: Fire HP: 3250 Win: Spade Key Location: Calios Mental Hospital ================ Party/Levels: Yuri - 30 Alice - 29 Halley - 29 ================ Have Yuri pound this boss like he has every other boss so far this game. Halley can use Aqua Blade for decent damage, and Alice can heal. This boss is pretty easy. He may get a strong attack or two in, so you might need Halley to take a break and use his healing spell, but otherwise, just keep pounding him until he goes down. ================ ================ Boss ================ Olga Class: Darkness HP: 4000 Win: Warlock Earrings Location: Calios Mental Hospital ================ Party/Levels: Yuri - 32 Alice - 30 Halley - 30 ================ Fight this fight like you did the last Olga fight. You should have Yuri fuse into his strongest fusion (should be level 2 by now) and have Alice use Holy Edge on him. Let him pound this boss for quite a lot of damage. Halley should spend his turns using his strongest attack. When needed, have him use his healing spell. Keep your team healthy and keep taking down her HP. She'll go down soon enough. ================ ================ Boss ================ Albert Simon Class: Darkness HP: 3500 Win: None Location: Nemeton Monastery ================ Party/Levels: Yuri - 34 Alice - 32 Halley - 32 ================ Have Yuri fuse into his strongest fusion, have Alice use Holy Edge, and then beat on Albert. Alice should be healing. Don't let your party get too hurt, as you have other problems to deal with other than HP. Albert uses a Holy Chest attack that reduces your SP. Be wary of this, as the last thing we need is our main healer going Berserk. So keep your HP and SP in check, and continue to pound him. If you bought and equipped Will Powers, then this battle won't be nearly as hard. Just keep at him and he'll go down like every lackey before him, or so we thought... ================ ================ Boss ================ Amon Class: None HP: 4000 Win: Angel Earrings Location: Nemeton Monastery ================ Party/Levels: Yuri - 34 Alice - 32 Halley - 32 ================ Without even leaving the battle screen, we see Simon fuse into Amon. Be sure to heal anyone who was low on health and SP from the last portion and buckle down, you're in for the long haul. After you're party is in fighting shape, continue to pound him as you pounded Simon, using the same strategies that worked against him. Yuri with Holy Edge won't be doing as much damage now, as this boss doesn't have a class. This boss has some strong attacks. A single- character move that does ~300-350 damage and an attack on the entire party for about 150 damage. Keep your health as high as possible and slowly take him down. Be patient, and this fight will eventuallly be yours. ================ ================ Boss ================ Atman Class: None HP: 9000 Win: None Location: Graveyard ================ Party/Levels: Yuri - 42 Alice - 41 ================ Have Yuri fuse into his strongest fusion and pound the boss. Alice should heal the entire fight. If you get in a pinch, you can have Yuri skip a turn to heal someone in need, though try not to. It's really not that hard of a fight. Congratulations, you've earned the Good Ending! ================ ================ Boss ================ Cherubim Class: None HP: 10,000 Win: Holy Peak Staff ================ Party/Levels: Yuri - 43 Alice - 42 Halley - 41 ================ Like always, have Yuri fuse and pound the boss. The boss has strong attack-all moves that do decent damage and cause bad statuses. This is why we have those Crucifixes. If not, at least we can prevent Petrification with the Mirror Bracelets. One thing to remember is to NEVER use special attacks against this boss, as they will simply be absorbed. Have Alice heal using Arc (or Cure if you don't yet have Arc) and your third character attack, stopping to heal when neccesary. This boss has a lot of HP, so this fight will take a little while. If you keep at it, you will come out the winner. ================ ================ Boss ================ Orb Chaos Class: Holy HP: 7500 Win: Holy Book-Flesh Location: Dollhouse ================ Party/Levels: Yuri - 45 Alice - 42 Halley - 43 ================ Have Yuri fuse into his strongest non-Light Class fusion and pound the boss, Have Alice on healing duty, and have your third character beat on the boss to augment Yuri's damage and occasionally stop to heal someone in need. This boss will probably waste several moves using stat-boosting spells. Make it pay for wasting its turns like that by cutting a hole so deep into its HP, no stat-boost can save it. Not a hard fight if you brought Crucifixes. ================ ================ Boss ================ Seraphim Class: None HP: 4000 Win: Volt Snipe Location: Ancient Ruins ================ Party/Levels: Yuri - 46 Alice - 44 Halley - 44 ================ The Crucifixes protect you from his bad statuses, so just worry about healing your HP. Have Yuri and your third character pound him while Alice uses Arc and Cure as needed. This boss has less HP than his Cave Temple counterpart, so Yuri should take him down quicker. ================ ================ Boss ================ Golden Bat Class: None HP: 1200 Win: DemonSwd-Tyrving Location: Blue Castle ================ Party/Levels: Keith - 22 ================ You must defeat this bat in five turns, so unleash your combos to finish him off. Equip Atk boosting items and maybe even a Mind's Eye to help finish him quick enough. ================ ================ Boss ================ Ben Hyuga Class: Darkness HP: 2400 Location: Graveyard ================ Party/Levels: Yuri - 50 ================ Don't fuse (to save SP), and just pound him, healing whenever you need it. This battle will be a relatively easy exchange of blows. If Yuri is stronger, he will prevail, if not, then you need to level up, as you would have had no chance with the next boss... ================ ================ Boss ================ Seraphic Radiance Class: None HP: 5000 Win: Diamond Ring Location: Graveyard ================ Party/Levels: Yuri - 50 ================ This boss uses physical attacks and occasionally an attack called Malcto that drains Yuri's HP in order to heal it. You need to be strong enough (health-wise) to take two hits without dying. One hit to start, and then you attack, and then another hit, and then you heal with a Thera Extract (now you understand why I told you to bring a lot of them). This is going to be the battle pattern. Repetitive, boring, but it works. If Yuri does not have enough health, but you don't want to level him up, equip Brskr Earrings on him to increase his max HP. Since this is the last battle, don't bother saving all those rare items you've been collecting throughout the game. Items like Fruit og Yggdrasil, Star Swallow (use this on Yuri), Moon Swallow, Silver Hand, Key to Success, and the different numbered Keys. These items make this fight pretty easy. Your Crucifixes protect you against status attacks, so you just have to worry about your HP/MP. Have Alice heal with Arc, and have the third character use items to boost the party and restore their HP/MP.
