Metal Gear Solid is actually the first Metal Gear Solid game that I've ever played, but it's difficulty and replay value makes this game very enjoyable, even for a n00b to the game like me. The story is very rich and well done, and you actually feel like you're watching a move when the cinemas come on. The controls and camera are incredibly well done, and the gameplay keeps you coming back for more. This is an example of a truly perfect game; this game is just unforgettable. Well, on to the FAQ! _________________ | VERSION HISTORY | 1.0 (3/18/05) Finished well, everything. 1.1 (3/21/05) Fixed a bunch of errors thanks to SITHDUKE. 1.2 (4/2/05) Updated a lot of food in area and added Patriot info. 1.3 (4/13/05) Added a search function. 1.4 (4/30/05) Added an alternate strategy for fighting Volgin/Shagohod. 1.5 (5/9/05) New ASCII Art. _____________ | NEXT UPDATE | Minor updates. |||||| ||||| 01CO II: Controls ||||| |||||||___________________________________________________||||||| || | D-Pad -------------------------- Move (Slow), Look | | Left Analog -------------------- Move (Fast), Look | | Right Analog ------------------- Adjust Camera, Interrogate | | Start Button ------------------- Open Survival Viewer | | Select Button ------------------ Access Radio | | X Button ----------------------- Crouch/Crawl, Cancel (Menu) | | Circle Button ------------------ CQC, Accept (Menu) | | Square Button ------------------ Use Weapon | | Triangle Button ---------------- Action | | R1 Button ---------------------- First Person View | | R2 Button ---------------------- Open Weapon Window, Sidestep | | L1 Button ---------------------- Aim | | L2 Button ---------------------- Item Window, Sidestep | |__________________________________________________________________| |||||| ||||| 02BA III: The Basics ||||| |||||||___________________________________________________||||||| {==Stamina==} Stamina is as important as health in this game. Stamina will deplete if you move using the Left analog, shimmy, climbing, attacking, etc. If Snake's stamina is low, aiming will be harder, for Snake starts shaking the gun. If you run out of Stamina, Snake's stomach will growl, possibly alerting any nearby enemies. Killing animals and taking food will help. Eat food in the survival viewer to regain stamina, helping Snake perform more activities. {==Backpack==} Snake can't hold every single weapon and item that he acquires in the game. In order to use a particular item or weapon on the battlefield, you must open your survival viewer and select "BACKPACK". From there, you can select weapons and items to your window. Back in the game, press R2 to view accessible weapons to use, or press L2 to use accessible items. You can only hold a certain amount of weapons and items in your arsenal, so you must choose wisely. At anytime you want to disable an item or weapon, just access your backpack and take it out. You can replace it with another weapon or item to use. {==Cure==} After the prologue, Snake will be able to cure himself of inguries sustained in battle. Open the survival viewer and select "CURE". The screen will show injuries on Snake's body. You can use certain medicine for certain injuries. An example is a burn. You can use ointment and a bandage to completely heal a burn wound. For a gunshot wound, first you must extract the bullet with your knife, then use disinfectants, stitches, and bandages. If you find out that you don't have all of the medicinal items used to heal a wound, then your wound will only be somewhat cured. If a would is left without any type of medicinal care, then Snake's stamina will decrease more than usual. {==Saving==} I must admit, I didn't knkow how to save until Mission 3. If you don't explore enough with in-game menus and such, then you will have the same problem as I did. In order to save your game, you must press select and access your radio. From there, type in the frequency "140.96" to contact para- Medic to save. {==CQC==} CQC stands for close-quarters-combat, which proves to be very useful in this game. Some times, if you don't have any guns, this proves to be vey useful. If an enemy has spotted you, press O to unleash a 3-hit combo on your opponent, knocking him to the ground. If you aren't loticed by a guard, sneak up behind the enemy and press O when you are right behind him. You will grab the enemy by the throat. There are several techniques used once you've grabbed your opponent: Left Analog + O = Direct Throw (You will slam the enmy to the ground, stunning him) L3 + O = Interrogate (You will interrogate the enemy, where they could possibly leak useful information out of fear) [] = Human Shield (Once the enemy is grabbed, press Square to use the enemy as a human shield) O (Hold) = Slit Throat (Snake will slit the enemy's throat, leaving a bloody body to be dealth with) O (Tap) = Neck Snap (Snake will start to choke the enemy, then proceeds to snap their neck) {==Stealth==} Stealth is what this whole game is all about. Instead of normal shooter games where you wipe the field of enemies, you must be very strategic in this game. if an enemy is near, use the D-Pad to stalk him instead of the left analog stick, where you will make more noise. Crawling under grass and underbrush is very important for being undetected. Press X to crouch, then use the analog stick to crawl under platforms or through tall grass. In order to lose all hope of being detected, drag unconcious or dead bodies in unaccessible or hard-to-find places, such as dropping them off of a bridge or hiding them in tall grass. If an enemy spots a body of their comrade, they will be even more cautious than before. When Snake is up against a wall, he can knock on the wall by pressing O to attarct nearby enemies to their unsuspecting doom. {==Enemy Stats==} Certain icons appear over enemies head to represent their status: ? = Suspicious of something (might have seen something strange). Enemy proceeds to stare where he possibly saw you, then continues on his patrol ! (Blue) = May have heard a strange sound or seen a dead body. Enemy moves in to investigate. !(Red) = Enemy spots Snake. The enemy will enter alert stage and tries to call for backup. *** = Unconcious. Either kill or avoid the guard before he wakes up. zzz = Asleep. Either kill or avoid the guard before he wakes up. Certain alert stages will occur if the enemies become suspicious of you. If one comes up, you have 99.99 seconds before the enemy resumes patrolling and loses all suspicion of anything: Alert Phase = When a guard spots Snake. Guards will come to reinforce each other. If you kill or tranquilize the guard who saw you, alert stage will turn off. Evasion Phase = Occurs when the alert phase timer expires. Enemies will have lost sight of Snake, but will resume the process of looking for him. Another timer will be set to 99.99 seconds once this phase starts. Caution Phase = This phase is triggered when the evastion phase ends, and another 99.99 second timer will start. Enemies patrol the area like normal, but are more alert and cautious. |||||| ||||| 03CH IV: Characters ||||| |||||||___________________________________________________||||||| **Taken from the Official Bradygames guide** {==Snake==} The main character, this is who you play as. A man who formally introduced himself as "John Doe" and whent also by the nickname, "Jack". The operative assigned the codename "Naked Snake" during the historic operation "Virtuous Mission" reputedly cared little for the rappings of identity. Long before he would lead the US to victory in the Cold War, his chief concern in life was one of many disciplines he learned during his training under The Boss, the woman whose combat talents led tha Allies to victory in World War II, aslo known as the mother of today's Special Forces. The exact depths of the relationship between Naked Snake and The Boss remain unclear, but what is known is that they met ten years prior to Virtuous Mission and drifed apart perhaps five years after their meeting. Together they crated the martial arts=inspired fighting style knows as Close Quarters Combat, or CQC. A mixture of martial arts combined with handgun and knife techniques, CQC is a means of disarming and disabling an opponent in as few moves as possible. Naked Snake utilized these legendart skills during the failed Virtuous Mission and the successive Operation Snake Eater. Though the circumstances of how he was able to complete the mission remain unknown, he was subsequently awarded the title of "Big Boss" and went on to establish the Special Forces Unit FOXHound. In later years he would betray his country and President to obtain the stolen weapon Metal Gear in an attempt to establish the soldier- ruled regime of "Outer Heaven" in Zanzibar Land. many psychologists have attempted to puzzle together the roots of his demoralization and eventual treason, and some point to the vague events of Operation Snake Eater. Understanding this complex historic character may be more than most could hope for. {==Zero==} The Major assigned to run Virtuous Mission and Operation Snake Eater, both designed to aid Russion weapons development scientist and defector Doctor Sokolov escape from the clutches of the GRU. "Major Zero", as he came to be known, was the creator of the original FOX unit and a former member of the SAS. having failed to rescue Sokolov from Russian authorities during a previous mission that did not involve Naked Snake, the Major bore a heavy conscious and plunged ahead with Virtuous Mission. It may be due to his hasty preparations that Virtuous Mission failed and that The Boss defected to Russia. If he had prepared better, he might have known of The Boss' intentions before hiring her as a weapons and tactics consultant. When debriefed following the subsequent Operation Snake Eater, Major Zero remained unforthcoming as to the fulfillemtn of the mission and the involvement of the man later to be known as Big Boss. He would only agree that the operative codenamed Naked Snake was a major part of the operation, and that things would have gone terribly wrong without his involvement at the time. {==Sokolov==} A Russian weapons research scientist and attempted defector, Sokolov was the subject of the rescue attempt entitled Virtuous Mission and the subsequent campaign called Operation Snake Eater. Due to his dissappearance during or after Snake Eater, many historians point out that he was likely assigned a new ientity. Sokolov is, after all, credited with the infamous Shagohad project, a precursor to today's Metal Gears. Though his reason for wanting to defect remains unclear, one can surmise that perhaps he became disillusioned about the nature of his work and wished to cease weapons production in light of the supposed lethality of the Shagohad. However, since the United States intended to utilize Sokolov in its own weapons research and development, what he hoped to gain by defecting could not be determined. {==Eva==} Thought to be a KGB spy working for Khrushchev, the spy working under the codename EVA rendezvoused with Naked Snake instead of the missing operative ADAM. It remains unclear whether Operation Snake Eater was largely successful due to her help or in spite of her rumored interference. The only man who may know the answer regarding her involvement is the main operative codenamed Naked Snake, later known as Big Boss. Therefore, the truth regarding the woman known as EVA is perhaps lost in history. {==The Boss==} Little is actually recored in any of the files regarding the woman known by the revered title, "The Boss". This is mainly due to the top secret, cloak and dagger nature of most of the missions in which she participated. What all of the files do state in resonance is that she was largely responsible for the victory of the Allies in World War II, and that she went on to become the creator and "mother" of the Special Forces. Yet for reasons entirely unknown to the US government, The Boss betrayed the country she had sever for over 20 years and two wars, defecting to the USSR during Virtuous Mission. She was blamed and accused of launching and detonating to "Davy Crockett" class portable nuclear warheads in Russian Territory. The reasons for her sudden and erratic behavior were unknown to all, save the other participants in Operation Snake Eater and her beloved hand-picked Cobra Unit, also known as the "Sons of The Boss". {==Ocelot==} The commander of the Ocelot Unit that served the renegade Russian Colonel Volgin of the GRU was well known for his amazing learning and adaptive capabilities. Able to employ advanced combat skills within mere hours of seeing them in action, the Ocelot ommander was unmatched in his unit. For this reason, the GRU treated Ocelot as second in command to Volgin, despite prescent of other highter-ranking officials within the specialized army. In his later life, he joined the unit FOXHound and became known as "Revolver Ocelot". Ocelot's actions indicate the possibility that he could be a double agent, alling his true loyalty and motivations into question. {==Volgin==} Colonel and commander of the Russian GRU, which led an uprising against Khrushchev in the early '60s, Volgin bore the codename "Thunderbolt", due to his reported ability to channed and control electric energy. Volgin built and presided over the imprnetrable fortress Groznyj Grad, named for Ivan Groznyj, or "Ivan the Terrible". The Shagohod weapons system was allegedly being developed inside his fortress when Dodtor Sokolov attempted to defect. Volgin often uttered the Japanese phrase "Kuwabara, Kuwabara" before or after the performing psychotic, vicious acts of cruelty. There is no exact translatjion in the English language for this phrase, but in Volgin's usage he most likely meant to say, "The horror..." perhaps promising death and destruction to his enemies. {==The Pain==} Cobra Unit hornet soldier "The Pain" was a master bee tamer and hornet specialist supposedly capable of commanding entire swarms of stinging hornets to do is bidding and attack his enemies. A former comrade of The Boss, The Pain was one of several fearsome Cobra Unit commandos involved in the events of Operation Snake Eater. The Pain ostensible developed his rare gift by allowing thousands of hornets to sting him for months at a time, unti lthe hive came to believe that he was in fact another hornet himself. His intense willingness to suffer pain for his art enticed The Boss to recruit him for the Cobra Unit during the last world war. {==The Fear==} Cobra Unit spider soldier "The Fear" was appropriately named, due to his frightening appearance and abilities. The Fear dislocated limbs at will to enhance his strange ability to climb rough surfaces like a spider. The dislocation allowed The Fear to leap great distances and to crawl across the ground at lightning-fast speeds. A formidable wilderness hunter, The Fear preferred to use a crossbow gun to "sting" his opponents with toxic poitions extracted from the world's deadliest insects. {==The End==} A veteran of dozens of wars, The End spent most of his latter days in a kind of preventative hibernation, staving off his own natural death until he finally found a battle worthy of his life. A superior marksman and sniper, The End employed camouflage techniques that made him invisible even the brightest, most exposed arenas. His sole companion in life was a squawking parrot, which woke The End up just in time for battle. {==The Fury==} An astronaut on secret Soviet rocket messions, The Fury reportedly fought with all the anger and rage he felt regarding the warlike state of the world. Equepping a headvy spacesuit and the most powerful flamethrower ever made, The Fury would unleash his flames of wrath upon his enemies, consuming them in puriflying fires he wished would consume the whole world, wiping mankind's slate clean. {==The Sorrow==} A former Cobra Unit spirit medium soldier, The Sorrow could evidently speak to dead men on the battlefield to determind enemy positions and armaments. His tap into the spirit world also probided him a means to see slightly into the future, and to read the minds of interrogation subjects. However, The Sorrow was reportedly killed years before Operation Snake Eater. Therefore, there is no way he could have been part of The Boss's defection and the GRU uprising.......could he? |||||| ||||| 04WA V: Walkthrough ||||| |||||||___________________________________________________||||||| **NOTE: The item placement, enemy patrol routes, etc. is based on the Normal difficulty** * = Must defeat boss by depleting stamina with Mk22. Don't worry, there are no enemies here. After Snake is done talking with the Major on radio, get a feel for the game by walking around and crawling. Remember that the Major says that he always refers north as up, south as down, east as right, and west as left. I will be using the same references. Got it? Go east, then north once you reach the dead end. Pick up the box by walking over it. It's a life medicine. Slide down the hill, then press Triangle while next to the central tree with the ivy on it. You will climb it. Walk to the end of the branch, then press Triangle when you're under the backpack to swing down and get it. This is a good area to hunt for food, because there aren't any enemies. Look on the ground for snakes. They aren't hard to miss. Walk up to one and press Circle three times to kick the snake, killing it. Pick it up, and you can access the food in the Survival Viewer. You can use the Mk22 against it too, but there's no need to waste bullets, is there? Head north into the next area. 0-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-0 <| Dremuchij Swampland |> 0-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-0 Items ----- Bug Juice Weapons ------- Grenades [GRENADE] Mk22 Ammo Mk22 Suppressor [SP/Mk22] Food ---- Indian Gavial [GAVIAL] Hornet's Nest [NEST] Golova [FRUIT C] Tree Frog [FROG B] Magpie [BIRD D] Reticulated Python [SNAKE H] O-----------------------------o-----------------------------O For your second area, this place can be dangerous. There are numerous gavials scattered along the swamp, and they can hurt you. Use your Mk22 to tranquilize them from a distance. If you're brave (or stupid), you can kill the gavials with your knife, but I don't recommend it. Most of the area is covered in quicksand, so stay near the edges. Search the grass near the first animal for bug juice, then continue east in the grass to find grenades. Go north through the quicksand and proceed onto the island. Watch out for the two gavials. Aim up in the tree and shoot the hornet's nest. Head off of the island towards the west side of the swamp. There will be more gavials, so avoid them and collect the suppressor in the western corner of the swamp. Continue east through the quicksand until you reach the northern bank. Walk down the path, shoot the fruit from the trees, and continue to the next area. 0-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-0 <| Dremuchij North |> 0-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-0 Items ----- Bug Juice Thermal Goggles [THERM G] Weapons ------- Grenades [GRENADE] Stun Grenades [STUN G] Mk22 Ammo Dragunov Sniper Rifle [SVD] Food ---- Tree Frog [FROG B] Golova [FRUIT C] Sunda Whistling Thrush [BIRD E] Siberian Ink Cap [MUSHROOM C] Green Tree Python [SNAKE F] O-----------------------------o-----------------------------O Ooh, guards! This is where you really can't run around anymore. First off, crawl in the crass in front of you. If you move around the camera a bit, you should see a guard coming straight ahead. Equip the Leaf Camouflage and wait until the guard is close enough for firing range. Now, I must admit, I was awful at this area, because I'm not used to not having crosshairs for games. So what I did is that if I wanted to aim for a guy's head, don't aim at his head, aim a little below. If you're a pro at MGS games, then just tranq him in the face. Unequip everything, and press Square to drag hiss unconcious body into the tall grass. Knife him to death, and get up, and hide behind trees until you see a fork in the road. When the right path is accessible, head right and up the hill. At the top, you will find the Dragunov Sniper Rifle. You can use it if you want, but it's very noisy, so guards can spot you easier if you use it. Head back down the hill, and crawl under the tree trunk to find bug juice. You can wait for the next enemy to come along. Crawl out of the other side of the trunk and into the tall grass. You can either tranq him or use some CQC, it's your choice. Either way, drag his body away from any guards' sight and kill him. You can pick him up and put him down so he drops ammo. It's a useful technique called "shaking". Head north, and tranq any guards in your way. Instead of going straight the whole time, head east once the path is open. Crouch and look around for any guards. If the coast is clear, make a mad dash eastwards and a little north until you find another tree trunk. Crawl in it and collect the thermal goggles. There should be another enemy in front of you, so tranq and knife him. If at any time, an enemy sees you, quickly tranq him and hide in the tree trunk before reinforcements see you. Once all the guards are eliminated, head to the western side and search the grass to find grenades. You can hunt for wildlife in the area, but if you're fine, then head north until you find a center pathway. Head up the path to the next area. 0-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-0 <| Dolinovodno |> 0-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-0 Items ----- Pentazemin Weapons ------- Mk22 Ammo XM16E1 Food ---- Hornet's Nest [NEST] Siberian Ink Cap [MUSHROOM C] Tree Frog [FROG B] Yabloko Moloko [FRUIT A] O-----------------------------o-----------------------------O One little item found here can make the whole area easy as hell: the hornet's nest. Look down the ledge at the guard. Look above him. There should be a hornet's nest in the tree right above him. Shoot the nest, angering the hornets and attacking the guard. The guard runs across the bridge, and the hornets end up attacking all of the other gaurds, chasing them out of the area! For some strange reason, like, if you miss the nest and alert the guard, simply tranq and kill the lone guard, then snipe the two on the bridge. Bring the guard's unconcious body next to the other two on the bridge. Slice the ropes on either side of the bridge, and the bridge will slide, sliding the bodies right off of the bridge and into the river. That was easy, wasn't it? You'll probably slide with the bodies. If you fall to the edge, Snake will grab on the edge. Press Triangle to climb back onto the bridge. Across the bridge, collect the mushrooms on the base of the tree. Head west, then south down the small tunnel. You will come to the edge of the cliff. Shimmy across, and you'll end up in a small alcove under the bridge. Collect the XM16E1 and Pentazemin, then head back across and up the tunnel. Go west into the next area. 0-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-0 <| Rassvet |> 0-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-0 Items ----- Life Medicine [LF MED] Mousetrap Weapons ------- M37 Mk22 Ammo XM16E1 Ammo XM16E1 Suppressor [SP/XM16E1] Food ---- Rat [RAT] Siberian Ink Cap [MUSHROOM C] Sunda Whistling Thrush [BIRD E] Reticulated Python [SNAKE H] O-----------------------------o-----------------------------O After the cutscene, head to the side of the right-hand wall. Crawl, and there will be an opening on the eastern side of it. Crawl through to the other side. A guard will be patrolling down the road. Once he gets inbetween the two brick walls, get behind him and perform CQC to knock him out. Drag him into the grass and knife him. Head up the pathway towards the eastern side. When you come up to the building, hide behind a wall and check that the coast is clear, then enter. You can find an M37 behind some crates. Move up the stairs. Only proceed up the first flight, then look above you at the platform. A guard shoud be ducking and looking around. He can't see you, so tranq him in the face. Go up the next flight of stairs and knife him on the upper level (I love that phrase). Collect the suppressor and ammo for your XM16E1. Go back down the stairs, move east and hide behind some stacked cardboard boxes. A guard should come past and walk right next to you without seeing you. Use CQC on him and slit his throat or whatever. Just don't make noise. Head back towards the eastern side of the ruined building and look on the wall for a ladder. Climb up to gain access to the roof. Shoot some Sunda- Whistling Thrushes, and go back to the building. Go north all the way to the end of the building, and dive through the opening on the east side. If there is a guard waiting for you, take him out with CQC or your Mk22. Head south, then east in the small room. Open the door to encounter Sokolov. After the cutscene, head back to Dremuchij North. A rather long cutscene will ensue, so kick back and relax. Once the cutscene ends, you will have to cure your injuries. Open the survival viewer, and since Para-medic will be holding your hand through the whole thing, listen to her orders and you'll be fine. Stay behind rocks of your own, and when he scurries by, try to get a shot or two in with your M1911A1. He will stop in the middle of the open area and try to get a good shot on you. That's where you shoot him in the head numerous times. Look for hornet nests on the trees. When Ocelot runs under a rock, shoot the hornet nest above his hiding place to chase him out of hiding. You can get a few shots off of him when he's panicing. If you ever run out of ammo, head south to a tree. There will be grenades high in a tree, and there will be gun ammo in the western part of the canyon. It doesn't hurt to explore for items while the battle is going on. When you take out about half of Ocelot's health, he starts getting more talented and instead of simply firing at you, he will ricochet shots off of rocks and hit you, so there aren't many places to hide for cover. If you run out of M1911A1 ammo entirely, then switch to the AK-47. Ocelot wants a pistol fight, and if you use the AK-47, he will consider it "cheating" and his soldiers will fire at you. If you're out of all other ammo, then there is no choice to use it. Ocelot will take a lot of time reloading, because he's not used to the new gun. If you hear the noise of clicking guns and bullets being put into a gun, then he's reloading. He may take a while, so throw a grenade at the foot of the rock or tree to blast him out of hiding. The blast will hurt him and make him run away to another location. The battle isn't too hard, so you will probably have little trouble. Once the battle ends, another cutscene will start up. The Pain will make an appearance, interrupting the duel. He sends his hornets to attack everyone. Ocelot flees, leaving his men to die at the hands of the hornets' lethal stings. Snake, in an attempt to lose the bugs, takes cover and jumps into a crevice leading to an underground cave. Return to the waterfall room and hug the west wall and enter through the small tunnel. Climb to the top, collect the Cold Medicine and Serum, then crawl through the passage on the east wall. You will crawl down towards another room. Search the edges of the room to find night vision goggles. These make navigating through these caverns a lot easier, so equip it. Dive down and look for an underwater passage. Quickly swim through it and get back to the surface before your stamina runs out. You should stay in the water for a large portion of the battle. The Pain likes to talk to himself a lot in this battle, which actually makes it easier. For example, if he says "Tommygun!", then stay under the water. He will pull out a Tommygun and start shooting you, even if you're under the water. Swim halfway around the pool, and he will surely be done firing at you. When he yells "Grenade!", he will spawn a grenade and have his hornet friends carry it to you. When he does say this, hop onto the surrounding rock structures and fire at The Pain with an AK-47 or M1911A1. He will just stand there, waiting for the hornets to throw the grenade at you; he's pretty much a sitting duck. After you damage The Pain a bit, he will gather his hornets and make a shield around him. You can take out the shield with some M37 shots, grenades, WP grenades, or stun grenades. Hop in the water and look for ammo or food if needed. Sometimes he will ask himself where you are. If he can't find you, wait underwater with your Water Camo on, and he will walk around the edge of the island and bend over, looking for you. Equip the Thermal Goggles to make things easier to see him, and pop in some shots while underwater. Always look at your stamina! When underwater, your health will decrease if you run out of stamina. The madman also makes mirror images of himself. If you shoot the decoy, it will give away your position and you will be attacked. Equip the Thermal Goggles and shoot the one with the body hit for a surefire way to hurt The Pain. Once half of The Pain's health has been depleted, he will start shooting bees out of his mouth! These are bullet bees, and as the name implies, treat them as bullets. If you get hit by one, you have to use the same cure treatment as a gunshot wound. Quickly swim around the island to avoid these attacks. If you ever run out of ammo, you can find some underwater and on the surrounding rock structures. There's also many fish to find, so there's plenty of food in this area. Once you've depleted all of The Pain's health, the hornet-loving fiend will be done for. THe Fear will go invisible, leaping from tree to tree like a monkey. The only way to fight this goon is to use Thermal Goggles. Keep them equipped at all times. Since The Fear maneuvers around the area with such speed, he will always be able to see you. Heck, you can equip any camo you want, and it won't help you in this battle. As The Fear hops along the treetops, search him down in First-Person Mode and blast him once he stops momentarily. He will unload his crossbow and fire. It's pretty hard to see or know when he's attacking you with your Thermal Goggles on, because it's really hard to hear the arrows. You can listen for him pulling the arrow back, kinda like how a bow and arrow sounds like. Always open the cure menu to check if you have any injuries. The traps from earlier are still in tact, so don't move around a lot. Continue blasting at him with an AK-47 or XM16E1 as he is in the trees. After a while of fighting, The Fear will start complaining and searches for food. He will sometimes shoot food from the treetops, then hop onto the ground and eat it to regain stamina. If you have any poisonous animals (living, that is) throw them on the ground, and they may attack The Fear as he gathers food. Sometimes, he will eat rotten food and his stamina will go down and he will be stunned. He will also become uninvisible for a short time, so use that as an opportunity to take him out and continue pummeling him with some sort of an automatic weapon. Run up to him with your M37 shotgun and blast him as an added bonus. He doesn't have many other attacks or tactics other than shooting you with arrows. The Fear will go down rather quickly; he's probably the easiest of the Cobra Unit. If you depleted all of his stamina, the Spider Camouflage will be yours. That's the end of Mission 5! These are ideal to keep The Fear from collecting his own food and regenerating his stamina. If you shoot/Kick them from the tree's base he'll automatically want your food instead of huntign his own. When the Fear consumes them he'll be poisoned and you'll also have enough time to kick him a few times while he's collecting the food. This battle isn't just a "he's there, you're here, shoot each other" battle, it's a test of endurance. You must be patient with this battle; don't be surprised if this battle takes up to an hour long, even on Normal Mode. This fight actually takes place along three humongous areas, all part of a dense jungle: Sokrovenno South, Sokrovenno West, and Sokrovenno North. As you may know already, The End is a master sniper, so you guessed it: this is a sniping battle. The forest is VERY dense, and The End will be stationed at specific sniper spots to fight you. You can view those sniper spots on the map. Speaking of map, you must use this map constantly to win. The End actually shoots tranquilizer darts, which decrease your stamina rapidly if not cured. A simple survival knife will fully cure you, but if your stamina runs out, The End will capture you and throw you in jail all the way back at Graniny Gorki Lab. All enemies will reappear normally, so you can't just simply run back here. Because of stamina being such a big importance in this battle, you will find many different animals in the three areas, which respawn once killed. You can even shoot and kill The End's pet parrot, which can be found in a tree near the weapon supply shack in Sokrovenno South. Thermal Goggles are a hassle to use, because there is so much animal and plant life that actually sensing The End will be near impossible. He is also a master of camouflage, so occasionally you will be shot at without even knowing where he is. Some pure giveaways is his weapon. The scope on his sniper rifle will reflect sunlight, possibly giving away his location. If it starts raining, you know that the old man has fallen asleep. Run around the areas to all the sniper points, listening for noises. He snores quite loudly, so if you hear snores, look at the closest sniper points to get the upper hand. If The End ever says something, that means he's about to or already fired at you. Once the first of his shots has been fired, open the map. His location will be revealed as a red circle. That should help you find out where he is and target him. You have one of two options: snipe him if you know his exact location OR run towards his sniper point and attack him close hand or hold him up. To hold up The End, point your gun at him, and Snake will tell him to freeze. He will refuse and run away. If you hold him up one more time in another point, he will give you his Moss Camouflage. If you want the camo, you can also get it by depleating his stamina. This can be really easy, since the old geezer loses stamina over time, running from point to point. Once you think it's low enough, unload your tranq gun on him to take out his stamina completely. But beware, if The End's health or stamina is low, he will use the power of the forest (yeah, sounds cheesy) to regain all of his health/stamina!Prevent this by not letting him out of your sight. This can be a pain to do, because he's actually quick. Look around on the ground. The End leaves footprints in mud, so you can actually track him down for the whole battle. It's pretty hard, but always stay on his tail. Very rarely will you actually encounter The End running from sniper point to sniper point. I'm glad to say that I did at one point in the fight. If you ever end up being close to the guy or see him in the corner of your eye, unload on him. If close enough, wail on him with shotgun bullets, or snipe him if he's afar. The End also throws stun grenades at you in a ground battle and runs away. If he steps in mud, you can track him easier. Ammo will be scarce, and there's limited ammo in the weapons supply room in Sokrovenno South. (I ended up having only one SVD bullet left when the battle was over!) This is the type of battle where you either love or hate. Some inexperienced players may have a lot of trouble in this battle, where experts may find themselves restarting the game just to replay the battle! With a lot of time and patience, The End will meet his end. The mission will also come to an end, where Mission 7 starts up after you exit, which is found in the northeast corner of Sokrovenno North. And because I found this battle to be incredibly unique and innovative, I have some users give me their tips, tricks, and strategies for this stunning battle. _~_~_~_~_~_~_~_~_~_~LuigiandYoshiFan says:~_~_~_~_~_~_~_~_~_~_ "Wear the Mask, the scientist suit, torch, and any other ways of making yourself visible. When you come upon the large cliffside area, take a couple steps out in the open. Equip your SVD and look on the right wall. There should be a soldier standing on the high ledge. Snipe him first; he has an RPG-7: a very powerful rocket launcher. Once you snipe him, slowly proceed north. Guards are pacing the area in low trenches. Once you are out of their sight, go in the trench and CQC them. There are only about two or three of them, but if they call backup, many more guards come. If they do call for backup, run to the large boulder on the western side of the cliffside. There's some crawl space to hide in. You can chuck grenades at a group of guards' feet to take them all out in one blow. You might want to stay low, because the reinforcements have RPG-7s. Once everyone's gone, collect the goods by shaking the bodies. Vultures will be feasting on the dead bodies, so if you're low on food, these guys are sitting ducks. Take them out as well, and collect more supplies scattered around the area before you proceed to the second mountainous area. 0-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-0 <| Krasnogorje Mountainside |> 0-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-0 Items ----- Splint Serum Disinfectant Bandage Styptic Antidote Weapons ------- RPG-7 TNT Mk22 Ammo SVD Ammo M37 Ammo XM16E1 Ammo M1911A1 Ammo AK-47 Ammo Grenades [GRENADES] Stun Grenades [STUN G] White Phosphorous Grenades [WP G] Food ---- Calorie Mate [C MATE] Russian Ration [RATION] Emperor Scorpion [SCORPION] White-Rumped Vulture [BIRD B] Thai Cobra [SNAKE C] O-----------------------------o-----------------------------O This is an extremely hard area if you won't sneak by and just kill everyone in sight. If you destroyed the helicopter back in Bolshaya Past Base with the TNT, then hovercraft guards patrol the area. Usually one patrols the area and the rest are used for backup if needed. Equip the SVD when you enter and aim to the left a bit. If you look up the pathway, there should be a guard patrolling right where you would walk up next. Snipe him, then go north and walk up the said pathway. There is a cave found here that's pretty good for hiding. Enter through the doorway to find some items and a cobra. Avoid it's bite and kill/tranq it. There is also a crawlspace that leads to the side of the mountain, which is also a good escape route. DO NOT KILL THE HOVERCRAFT GUARD. If you do, people will radio for backup, and a seemingly endless wave of hovercraft guards and normal guards will come to take you out. It's not worth it. Just avoid him, as you sneak up the pathway. Once you exit the cave and go east up the other path, duck behind the rock. If there are any guards, your best strategy is to tranq them and kill them with your knife or silenced pistol. You will reach a turret. There really is no need to use it, because if the hovercraft guards hears you, then you're pretty much done. Same with the helicopter; if you take it out, another one will come. Just ignore it and proceed north, towards the three bunkers. Make sure the hovercraft is far away before you snipe the patrolling guards up near the bunkers. Check all of the bunkers for a plethora of items and weapons, including the RPG-7. There is one more guard, well, guarding the exit. Take him out by any means. If he alerts anyone, you can easily escape in time before any other guard sees you. This proves essential for sniping guards here. First off, there is a lone guard walking down towards you when you enter the area. Hide behind the crates at the start, then CQC him. Snipe any visible guards who are looking off cliffsides or ledges. Once again, make sure you snipe them when the helicopter if overhead. To be safe, travel through the trenches to reach the shacks in this area. There are mounted turrets, but DO NOT SHOOT DOWN THE HELICOPTER! THe alert meter will come up, and the helicopter will strike back, using machine gun fire and a barrage of missiles to take you down. Helicopters will probably kill you, and even if you do destroy it, another one will arrive to take it's place. It's a lose-lose situation for you, so just avoid the thought at all costs. With that said, there really isn't much use of the turrets, unless you have a good eye and decide to save SVD ammo and take out the guards that way. The shack to the right has some ammo and grenades. Proceed through the trenches. Most of the guards stay up on the land, so in certain parts you can jump out and get them. It's better to just avoid them. You should reach another shack on your way to the northern side of the area. This place has a lot more ammo, TNT, and Claymores. Leave, and head west through the trenches. The top shack has a bunch of medical supplies, including bandages, suture kits, and ointment. Head est from the medical shack through the other trench. Keep going east, then go south with the trenches. The winding path ends up going north again, where there will be a doorway. Open the door and go inside to have another cutscene with Eva. 0-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-0 <| Krasnogorje Mountaintop: Behind Ruins |> 0-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-0 Items ----- None Weapons ------- SVD Ammo XM16E1 Ammo M1911A1 Ammo AK-47 Ammo CLaymore Food ---- Instant Noodles [NOODLES] Rat [RAT] Emperor Scorpion [SCORPION] O-----------------------------o-----------------------------O Eva will give you the Key B in the cinema. You can even snipe some guards, but they send a helicopter to take you out. Don't even bother with them. Just go back into the cabin. You can find some noodles and a lot of ammo in the rooms. Exit the cabin and head back to the mountaintop. 0-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-0 <| Krasnogorje Mountaintop |> 0-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-0 Items ----- Bandage Ointment Suture Kit Weapons ------- SVD Ammo M37 Ammo M63 Ammo RPG-7 Ammo Grenade [GRENADE] Smoke Grenade [SMOKE G] Claymore TNT Food ---- Rat [RAT] White-Rumped Vulture [BIRD B] O-----------------------------o-----------------------------O Flamethrower guards, yay! You heard me, now guards with flamethrowers have been positioned on the mountaintop. No worries, you won't be here for long. Go south from the cabin through the trenches. When the trench goes west, keep on the lookout for a flamethrower guard patrolling close by. You can either take him out the quiet, sneaky way, or you can shoot the fuel tank on his back for a quick kill. If you do shoot the fuel tank, it'll explode, revealing your hiding space. Choose either way you want. After taking him out, go up the ledge on the southern side of where you were just standing to get out of the trenches. Head down south a little bit and you should find a red door. The key that Eva gave you opens that door. Unlock the red door and go inside. 0-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-0 <| Groznyj Grad Underground Tunnel |> 0-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-0 Items ----- Bandage Antidote Ointment Disinfectant Battery Weapons ------- SVD Ammo M37 Ammo Mk22 Ammo AK-47 Ammo XM16E1 Ammo M1911A1 Ammo Grenade [GRENADE] Food ---- Rat [RAT] Vampire Bat [BAT] Russian Glowcap [MUSHROOM E] O-----------------------------o-----------------------------O Switch to the Splitter camo and face paint for now. Go east for some more ammo, then west, north and down the stairs. In the cutscene, Snake will be patrolling the dark corridors. He hers a loud, clanking noise, but he can't tell where. The Fury comes around a corner, and blasts his flamethrower towards the ceiling, dropping bats like flies. He flies up on his jetpack and shoots right towards Snake. Run to the north and get on the ledge. You will be fighting this battle in six long corridors. They are very dark, so thermal goggles are important here. Pace the ledge, looking down each corridor for The Fury. Make sure you have your thermal goggles on to help you spot his black suit in the darkness. When you find him, equip your SVD and shoot him about three times. He will fall to the ground and curse. Run to the other side quickly, because when he gets up, he'll charge to where the gunshot was emitted and blast the area with his flamethrower! Never fight him close up unless you're good with the knife. You can actually slice open his suit, stunning him and making him get hurt by the flames. The Fury is surprisingly quick, too. If you ever find him right behind you, dive roll into him to knock him down, then get the heck away from you. Run down one of the corridors and just try to make things hard for the guy. Try to stay away from the south side of the area, because it's a pit which makes things a lot easier for The Fury. He can easily charge into you can watch as you go careening off of the pit. After you shoot him a good five to six times, he'll get really angry. He won't pace the corridors anymore, he'll use his jetpack to fly around all of the corridors, giving you barely any time to snipe him. If he ever gets you with his flamethrower, dive to get the flames off of your body and cure yourself with ointment and a bandage. If at any point in the battle, The Fury sees you far away, he'll engage a countdown. If he gets to zero, he'll activate his jetpack and use himself as a battering ram, crashing right into you. Right when you start hearing him count, run inbetween the corridors. There are also a lot of barrels here, so Use them to your advantage. If you'd like to save bullets, shoot a barrel that's close to him, instead of shooting him up to three times. Barrels even damage the guy more. When you deplete at least three-quarters of his health, his patterns are nearly unpredictable. Once he finds you, he'll usually point that out to you, by saying something like, "There you are!". If you hear that, dive roll into him. Since he travels so fast now, close combat is all you can do now. Right when he gets up, pump him with your shotgun before he can whip out his flamethrower. He'll say that his suit is ripped, leaving him momentarily stunned. Lash out on him at this point and try to run and hide. He'll be smoked in no time. (Get it: smoked? Hehehe...) With that battle done, there's no more Cobras left (other than The Boss, of course). After the cinema though, the tunnel is sealed off, so no backtracking for you! After the cinema, Snake is trapped in a prison cell with a guard keeping a close eye on him. You actually have a number of ways to escape: {Option 1}: In the previous cutscene, if you pressed R1 at the desired time, you saw The Sorrow holding up a sign with a radio signal on it. That radio signal is 144.75. Use it to open the cell door. The guard, confused, rushes in. You can now proceed to fork him to death (I've always wanted to say that!). {Option 2}: Use a Fake Death Pill to "die". The guard will open the cell door and inspect Snake. use the Revival Pill to wake up, then kill the guard. {Option 3}: The guard will throw food into Snake's cell. Like the hardass that you are, simply throw back the food at him. He will eat the food instead. Occasionally, the food is rotten, and the sentry will hurry off to the little guard's room. Dial in the radio frequency, and go to the bathroom and take out the guard by surprise. I don't reccommend this option, because the food isn't always rotten. {Option 4}: This is just like Option 3, well, kinda. Proceed to throw back the guard gives to you. If the food isn't rotten, he will consume three or four of them. A funny cutscene will start, with the guard talking about his family. He holds up a picture of his family. When the R1 icon comes up, press it to look at the back of the card to see the radio frequency: 144.75. He will also give you Cigar Gas Spray. Why? I don't know. When the scene ends, stand as close to the bars as you can and use the gas on the sentry. He will fall asleep, and you can open the door and fork him to death. {Option 5}: This one is incredibly simple, but lame and boring. Crawl under the bed and hide there for a bit. The idiotic guard will wonder where you went and will panic. He will open the door and go inside to look for you. Crawl out from under the bed and kill him with your trusty fork. Leave the facility by going through the room right next to your cell, exiting through the southern door, and going through the second door on the left. Now you'll be back in Groznyj Grad Southeast. All the enemies will reappear, but hurry through the areas instead of taking them out. Don't even bother tranquing them. Go through the north door, then go through the east door when in the northeast section. You will end up in the northwest section. Go near the truck where you went inside to get to the weapons lab. Instead, hug the left wall and go through the small opening. Crawl under the pipes and open the trap door on the ground north from where you entered. This leads to the sewers. 0-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-0 <| Groznyj Grad Sewers |> 0-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-0 Items ----- Spirit camouflage [UNIFORM/SPIRIT] Life Medicine [LF MED] Styptic Weapons ------- SAA Ammo Food ---- Rat [RAT] O-----------------------------o-----------------------------O Head down the stairs, collecting ammo and items as you go. There will probably be guard dogs on each end, so whip out your SAA to take them out. The right side contains some SAA Bullets. Once at the end of the corridor, crawl through the space on the right wall. You will be in a section with a lot more water, enabling you to swim and dive in it. Collect the styptic and food on the bottom floor under the water. You will have to go under another crawl space on the left, so walk through until more bars block your path, like the other passage. Crawl through the hole on the right and continue going east. Watch out for the guard dogs here; take them out with your gun. Go north towards the light, and another cinema will be triggered. Snake is cornered by Ocelot and some guards. In front of Snake are the bad guys, and behind Snake is a waterfall. He jumps off of the waterfall to avoid Ocelot and swims down a river. He meets a strange foe, whom you might have seen several times before in the game. He's The Sorrow, and he's one strange foe. ||___||____________ ____________||___|| | | | | | | | ||_| |_|| | | | _ Boss Battle: The Sorrow _ | | | |___| |____________ ____________| |___| | | | | | | | |_||_| |_||_| This really isn't a boss fight, but since there is a boss meter, I guess it's an exception. The funny thing is that the boss meter is already empty! That's because The Sorrow is a ghost, and everyone knows that you can't kill a ghost. The Sorrow will resurrect EVERY SINGLE ENEMY YOU HAVE KILLED! That means that if you're a stealth master and haven't killed many people, then this "battle" will be easy. If you're like me and end up killing over 500 enemies at this point, then this might take a while. As you tread upstream, ghosts will be coming towards you. Some will merely walk past you, ignoring you completely. Most of them, on the other hand, try to get their revenge and take out Snake. If Snake touches a ghost, then his life meter will start to get drained. Ghosts are slow, so they are pretty easy to maneuver around. The Sorrow also shoots out strange beams of energy. Technically, they don't hurt you, but it knocks Snake down. If you get knocked down with a group of ghosts around you, you'll be hurting. The beam is incredibly slow when shot, so you should have no trouble moving to the other side of the river and dodging it. You can shoot the ghosts to momentarily stun them, as they emit an ear-piercing scream. That proves to be very useful when a wall of ghosts is moving towards you. You will also come across the bosses as you make your way through. They aren't any different from the normal ghosts. Just shoot them and proceed. At the end of the river, you will come upon The Sorrow's corpse. After a couple of seconds, Snake will drop dead. Don't continue though, open your item screen and use a Revival Pill. It was just a lame trick by The Sorrow. After you use the Revival Pill, the "battle" ends. You get the Spirit Camouflage for beating the ghastly Cobra member. _______()_______ ( Mission 9 ) (___________) 0-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-0 <| Tikhogornyj |> 0-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-0 Items ----- None Weapons ------- None Food ---- Markhor [MARKHOR] Kenyan Mangrove Crab [CRAB] Vine Melon [VEGETABLE] Tree Frog [FROG B] Arowana [FISH C] Siberian Ink Cap [MUSHROOM C] Fly Agaric [MUSHROOM D] Giant Anaconda [SNAKE G] Sunda Whistling Thrush [BIRD E] O-----------------------------o-----------------------------O You should have little problem with this area if you removed the transmitter already. Remeber that door that I told you to remember? Use Key C on it to unlock it and enter the Shagohod's hangar. You must plant four pieces of C3 on the four fuel tanks. There are two on both sides of the Shagohod. So, there's one northwest, northeast, southwest, and southeast. Once again, avoid all maintenance members, because they are like scientists; they squeal. There are normal guards here, so don't act suspicious, like dive roll or bump into them. Go down the stairs and avoid the lone maintenance guy. Go west to the staircase and go up it. There is another staircase that leads up to a rafter. Walk past it, then put the C3 on the fuel tank right next to the stairs. Do donw the next flight of stairs to your right towards the trucks. Go north and plant the C3 on the second fuel tank. Crawl under the trucsk to find Instant Noodles and another Life Medicine. Go east, and you should run into the third fuel tank, which is behind a wall. Go around the wall and plant C3 on it, then go south up the ramp. The last fuel tank is more south, so continue until you see it, and plant the last C3 piece on it. Volgin will spot you, where The Boss and Ocelot tag along with him. They have captured Tatyana, who is really the spy. (if you haven't figured it out, she is Eva). Volgin will challenge Snake to a one-on-one match, not knowing that the C3 is planted. If you press R1 at the desired time, you can see The Sorrow holding up a sign telling you how much more time there is until the C3 blows. Volgin lowers the platforms where the two of you are standing, and Ocelot watches from above. ||___||____________ ____________||___|| | | | | | | | ||_| |_|| | | | _ Boss Battle: Volgin _ | | | |___| |____________ ____________| |___| | | | | | | | |_||_| |_||_| This is an incredibly easy battle, despite Volgin being a hardass throughout the whole game. Ocelot will actually give you ammo throughout the battle. There is indeed a 5 minute time limit, but you should have more than enough time to finish him. Take off the Maintenance camo and switch to Sneaking. Equip any gun, and this will tempt Volgin to shoot an electric blast at you. If he hits you with your gun equipped, the gun will go off, wasting precious ammo and hurting you. Unequip it right before he's going to shoot, then run behind him. When the beam stops, unload your shotgun on his back. You can only hurt his back, because he uses a shield to protect the front of his body. Repeat this simple process until you take out half of his health. Now Volgin will use different electric attacks. He will fire a rapid stream of electricity. You can run from side to side to dodge them, then get behind him and blast his back. He will also use another electric attack, when he clasps his hands together and fires. A very good method is to shoot the pipes above Volgin. Water will come gushing out on top of him. This hurts him and gives you an opportunity to strike as well. Russian Glow Caps and Chaff Grenades divert his electric attacks to make things even easier. Volgin will sometimes go to an electrical box and "recharge". Since he has his back facing you, blast him when he's taking his time getting energy back. With Ocelot constantly helping you and the simplicity of this fight, you shouldn't have a problem. If you deplete all of his stamina, the Cold War Camouflage is yours. Ah, now it's time for one of the coolest parts in the game. Snake escapes the pit, and the C3 goes off, with Snake still inside the hangar! The building is being destroyed, with guards scrambling for their lives. Snake finds an exit, so he rushes out into the open. Eva comes over with her motorcycle, and Snake jumps on. They start to speed away, but wait. What's that?! The Shagohod with Volgin at it's controls comes crashing through the hangar, still in one piece. Eva will speed through all of Groznyj Grad and will stop at certain points to take out guards. Equip your RPG-7 or some type of automatic, like AK-47 or M63. Let the bullets fly as you take each guard one by one. When an area is cleared out, she'll move on to another area. Take out all of the guards and repeat this process until a cinema comes up. Eva and Snake will bust through a gate into the runway, and the Shagohod crawls towards the runway, destroying everything in it's path, even killing their own men. 0-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-0 <| Groznyj Grad Runway |> 0-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-0 Items ----- None Weapons ------- None Food ---- None O-----------------------------o-----------------------------O Equip the RPG-7 for this area. Guards in motorcycles will start chasing you. Aim for the front of their vehicles with your rockets, so when the rocket gets to their motorcycle, they will hit it dead on. You will have to use a tactical reload to stay alive in this game. Press R2 twice once you shoot a rocket to automatically reload one. It's a LOT faster and easier. Take out all of the motorcycles, starting with the closest ones. If a motorcycle is too close to you, try to aim for the back of the vehicle so you don't damage yourself in the blast. You can even use an M63 to shoot the riders. The Shagohod will catch up to you, so shoot it's treads to slow it down. When the mechanical monster shoots missiles, take them out of the sky with your M63 or toss a Chaff Grenade to mess up their flight pattern. You will come to the rail bridge after pummeling the treads for a bit. 0-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-0 <| Groznyj Grad Rail Bridge |> 0-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-0 Items ----- None Weapons ------- None Food ---- None O-----------------------------o-----------------------------O You will jump out of the side car. Equip the sniper rifle and aim for the explosives Eva planted on the bridge. Start with the one farthest away. Eva will command you where to aim, so it's not that hard. Blow out both of them to destroy the bridge. The Shagohod will fall off the bridge. That's what you think! It uses rocket boosters to speed up the falling bridge, over Snake and Eva, and lands behind them. It's ready to fight! ||___||____________ ____________||___|| | | | | | | | ||_| |_|| | | | _ Boss Battle: Shagohod _ | | | |___| |____________ ____________| |___| | | | | | | | |_||_| |_||_| This battle is pretty easy. You must do to it what you did to it on the runway: shoot the treads. Use a tactical reload (double tap R2) and your RPG- 7 to shoot the treads. When sparks fly and Volgin complains that it's too slow, Eva will drive to the back of the Shagohod. Aim for the upperportion of it and shoot the damaged part where the electricity is coming from. You can probably get two or three shots in. The Shagohod will turn around. The Shagohod will also fire missiles like before. Blast them out of the air or use a Chaff Grenade. Repeat the process of shooting the treads, then the back to defeat this boss. ||___||____________ ____________||___|| | | | | | | | ||_| |_|| | | | _ Boss Battle: Volgin _ | | | |___| |____________ ____________| |___| | | | | | | | |_||_| |_||_| This time you will be on foot when you fight Volgin inside the Shagohod. At first, Volgin will begin chasing Eva. Go to the edge of the area and hop in a turret. Start blasting Volgin (he's on top of the Shagohod) and he will turn to face you. Jump off of the turret, because he will come speeding at you and he will run over the turret. Volgin will then fire machine guns at you. Run away from them by going south. They shouldn't even reach you. He also fires a steady stream of bullets from the center of the tank. Run side to side to dodge it. He will also fire missiles at you. Like before, use the M63 or Chaff Grenades to make short work of them. After a while of running and dodging, Volgin will forget about you and start chasing Eva. Once again, hop in a turret and blast away until he destroys it. Repeat the process like before, but make sure to keep your distance. If you get too close to the Shagohod, he will actually run you over! But, there is a small space between the center of the vehicle and the treads that you can go through unharmed. You can whip out your sniper rifle and proceed to shoot at the back of Volgin's head before he gets a chance to turn around. Repeat this simple process to bring down the big man once and for all. _~_~_~_~_~_~_~_~_~_~ALTERNATE BATTLE STRATEGY~_~_~_~_~_~_~_~_~_~_ I found a much easier way to defeat Volgin yesterday. So easy that you shouldn't get hurt at all. First, start off with equipping your SVD/Mosin Nagant. Shoot Volgin in the back of the head when he chases EVA. He will give his attention to you. Now, run right up to the front of the Shagohod. He will probably say something like, "I'll grind you into dust!". With that said, Volgin will attempt to run you over with the Shagohod. Get on your knees when he tries to run you over, get up, turn around, and snipe in in the back of the ehad with either sniper rifle. If you're quick enough, you can do it, but he does turn around pretty quickly. So, if you're really good with sniping, you can take down Volgin without a scratch on you. _~_~_~_~_~_~_~_~_~_~SITHDUKE says:~_~_~_~_~_~_~_~_~_~_ A good strategy here if you're going for a stamina kill is to RPG A tread then Mosin Nagant to the Head. This one is harder though, because there are hovercraft guards as well. Shoot the guards with a gun because if you hit one of the many trees in this area, you could get hurt as well. After a bit of shooting down hovercrafts, Eva will tell you to look to the right. There are motorcycles on the ledge, so aim a little to the left of where ther motorcycles are driving and fire to take them out. You should have little trouble with this area. You will continue on, and a cinema starts. Snake and Eva notice a bullet holde in the fuel tank. With all their concentration on the behicle, they didn't see a log in the middle of the road. They smash into the log and fly off of the bike down a hill. Snake suffered from minor injuries, but the same can't be said for Eva. She was impaled on a tree branch, so Snake bandaged her up and gives her a gun for protection. You can go into the menu and Cure Eva as well as Snake. 0-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-0 <| Zaozyorje South |> 0-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-0 Items ----- None Weapons ------- AK-47 Ammo Mk22 Ammo Xm16E1 Ammo SVD Ammo M1911A1 Ammo Grenade [GRENADE] Smoke Grenade [SMOKE G] Stun Grenade [STUN G] Claymore Food ---- Russian Ration [RATION] Russian False Mango [FRUIT B] Tree Frog [FROG A] Siberian Ink Cap [MUSHROOM C] Reticulated Python [SNAKE H] O-----------------------------o-----------------------------O In the next two areas, you will have to guide an injured Eva to safety. Go east from the starting point to collect pretty much all of the ammo in this area. Go south and take the left path. Now, the guards are surely following you. Go south along the narrow path until you reach a log. Go across the log and plant a Claymore behind you. Once across the log, plant another one behind you to slow down the guards from reaching you. Eva runs off to the WIG and Snake and The Boss have one last word. The Boss talks a lot about her childhood and such. She talks about the Philosophers and how her son was born on the battlefield. She shows Snake her scar, which looks just like a Snake (what a coincidence). The Boss tells Snake that if he can't beat her and escape in ten minutes, this whole place will be bombed to hell. She tosses off her coat and prepares for one final battle! ||___||____________ ____________||___|| | | | | | | | ||_| |_|| | | | _ Boss Battle: The Boss _ | | | |___| |____________ ____________| |___| | | | | | | | |_||_| |_||_| Here it is: the battle of the century. This is where it all comes down. The Boss is very fast and tends to use CQC instead of guns most of the time. When the battle starts, equip the Snow Camo and Snow Face Paint. The Boss will run at you and use her own CQC. Rapidly press O to try to counter, but you probably won't. She's cheap like that. She will throw you to the ground. Jump back up and try to punch and kick her. If you knock her to the ground, run away from her and dive into the white flowers. Use the log in the center of the area as a landmark to where everything is. Get into the crouching position and look around for The Boss with your SVD. With the Snow camo and face paint on, you're nearly invisible. If The Boss does manage to see you, unequip your SVD and equip a weapon that you most likely won't use. She will grab your gun and scatter all the pieces: the gun, the ammo, etc. With a useless gun out of the way, you can add something more useful to your arsenal. Look for flower petals being kicked up in the air to spot The Boss's quick movements. She will probably hide behind a tree and come out with her gun aimed. Once you spot her, zoom in and when she is aiming her gun, shoot her in the chest. Shooting her in the head deals a bit more damage, but chances are that you might miss. Shoot her in the chest two or three times to knock her down, then run away from your current position. She will run to where the gun was fired, so get away from it and dive into the flowers. Repeat this process of shooting her and running to a new area. The time limit is the hardest part of this battle. This "cat and mouse" strategy is good, but it will probably waste some time. When the music starts, that means that five minutes is up and you only have another five minutes to take her out. Another good strategy is to plant TNT on the trees. Since The Boss always hides behind trees at one point or another, detonate them when she's behind a tree to get her caught in an explosion, greatly hurting her. If you take her out with the MK22 and deplete all of her stamina, you will have the Snake Camouflage to use in the next playthrough. There are three rare snakes to find in this area, Snake Liquid, Snake Solid, and Snake Solidus. If you happen to eat one, all of your stamina is refilled instantly! This is an extremely fun battle, but it's also extremely hard. Pat yourself on the back once she's done, because you just beat the final boss of the game! 0-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-0 <| WIG Interior |> 0-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-0 Items ----- None Weapons ------- SAA [SAA] Food ---- None O-----------------------------o-----------------------------O You're not done just yet! After the cinema with Ocelot invading your ship, he will set up a duel. Grab the right gun to get an SAA to use at the beginning of the next game. Snake will miss the shot (on purpose) and Ocelot will retreat. After this, sit back, relax, watch the thirty or so minute cutscene, and enjoy the fact that you just beat the greatest MGS game ever! Once you're under, turn around and crawl towards the opening. By the time you're right next to the opening, a guard should walk by. Throw a grenade right under his feet and watch him get decimated. More guards will be alerted and run to investigate. Let them suffer the same fate by chucking a grenade at them. You can take out at least 5 out of the 8 soldiers this way. Go through the opening and into the building. Jump on the crates to the northwest to obtain the Cardboard Box A. Return to where Sokolove was held, and open the locker in the corner to get Thermal Goggles. Exit the room, and in the corner is a Mine Detector. Pick it up, then head west. When you reach the stairs, go up them and get the AK-47 on the platform. From here, you can get a bird's eye view of most of the area. Pick off the guard who is to the left of you. Jump down and go back east. When you can go no further, continue north past the barrels. When you reach the boxes on the eastern side, bang on them to attract the soldier who's right on the other side of them. Kill him, then head north then west. Keep going west until you reach a dead end. Pick up the zombie face paint. Go back to where the guard near the boxes was, and aim towards the roof. Shoot a couple times to alert a guard on the rooftop. When he peeks over the edge, pop a cap in his head to take out the last soldier. ||___||____________ ____________||___|| | | | | | | | ||_| |_|| | | | _ Boss Battle: Ocelot _ | | | |___| |____________ ____________| |___| | | | | | | | |_||_| |_||_| The area will be a large canyon. Ocelot is on one side, and Snake's on the other. Ocelot will run behind boulders and trees, while peeking out of the sides to shoot you. ||___||____________ ____________||___|| | | | | | | | ||_| |_|| | | | _ Boss Battle: The Pain _ | | | |___| |____________ ____________| |___| | | | | | | | |_||_| |_||_| The Pain will take his place on the central island for the whole battle. He will explode, letting you continue your way out of the cave. ||___||____________ ____________||___|| | | | | | | | ||_| |_|| | | | _ Boss Battle: The Fear _ | | | |___| |____________ ____________| |___| | | | | | | | |_||_| |_||_| As soon as the battle starts, cure yourself of the arrow wound and the poisoning. Head back to Ponizovje Warehouse to continue your mission. _~_~_~_~_~_~_~_~_~_~SITHDUKE says:~_~_~_~_~_~_~_~_~_~_ What i do first is just to the left of your startling location is a tree with two mushrooms and a 2nd tree with a 3rd mushroom just left of that one. This is an ideal strategy if you're going for a stamina kill. ||___||____________ ____________||___|| | | | | | | | ||_| |_|| | | | _ Boss Battle: The End _ | | | |___| |____________ ____________| |___| | | | | | | | |_||_| |_||_| Okay, here is one of the highpoints of the game. Worked well...course, he snuck up on ME about 5 minutes later and i got thrown in the pokey. Oh, and dont forget that using a big/loud gun (m63 comes to mind) to hold him up works well too. He refused to give up the camo, so i shot around his head a dozen times, and he gave it up on the spot." ||___||____________ ____________||___|| | | | | | | | ||_| |_|| | | | _ Boss Battle: The Fury _ | | | |___| |____________ ____________| |___| | | | | | | | |_||_| |_||_| The Fury will fly right over your head once the battle starts. Hehehe...) ||___||____________ ____________||___|| | | | | | | | ||_| |_|| | | | _ Boss Battle: The Sorrow _ | | | |___| |____________ ____________| |___| | | | | | | | |_||_| |_||_| This really isn't a boss fight, but since there is a boss meter, I guess it's an exception. Three shots to the head and this very short battle is made even shorter. |||||| ||||| 06WE VII: Weapons |||||
