- Introduction -
================
The Fellowship of the Ring was formed to save Middle-earth from the
treacherous power of The One Ring. As the Fellowship set out to destroy The
Ring of Power by throwing it into the hellish fires that bore it at Mount
Doom, many a demon they encountered. One such struck down a member of there
team, the great wizard, Gandalf the Grey. The Fellowship, however, marched on
as the hope and trust they placed in their friend ultimately prevailed.
In a great battle the Fellowship was broken as the hobbits Merry and Pippin
were taken, the great warrior Baromir defeated, and Frodo the Ringbearer along
with his best friend Sam left to Mount Doom alone. Only Aragorn, Legolas, and
Gimli remained to face the powers of Saruman as they moved through Fangorn
Forest. While traveling through the forest they came upon the White Wizard,
but it was not the White Wizard they thought it was. Gandalf the Grey was no
longer alive, but Gandalf the White had emerged and lead the three to the city
of Rohan. There they marched to Helm\'s Deep where a great battle ensued.
The hobbits Frodo and Sam draw nearer to Mount Doom as Aragorn, Legolas, and
Gimli race to the gates of Minas Tirith where the battle of their time will
soon begin. Will the great Gondorian city hold? Will Frodo and Sam make it to
the fires of Mount Doom? In the final chapter of The Lord of the Rings, the
fate of Middle-earth is in your hands.

The Return of the King is a grandeur and difficult game, but with some help
you too can conquer it\'s hardships.

The controls of the game will teach you the basics to defeat the forces of
the Dark Lord Sauron.
Move - Left Analog Stick
Speed Attack - X or Right Analog Stick (Left and Right)
Fierce Attack - Triangle or Right Analog Stick (Up and Down)
Physical Attack - Circle
Parry - Square
Action - R1
Killing Move - R2
Ranged Attack - Hold L1 ro activate and press X to fire

- Gameplay Screen -

Mastering the gameplay screen is the first step on a long journey toward
saving Middle-earth.
Health Meter - Located in the bottom left-hand corner of the screen lies the
Health Meter. As you take damage, your Health Meter depletes.
Do not let the bar become empty or else you are defeated.
Experience Meter - Located to the right of the Health Meter is the Experience
Meter. Experience points are awarded each time you defeat
an enemy. This allows you to gain levels and access more
powerful and useful skills.
Special Ability Meter - This meter is the picture of the current character
next to the Health Meter. By pressing L1, L2, R1, and
R2 simultaneously the character\'s special ability is
activated. The meter will turn white and the ability
cannot be used again until full color has been regained.
Ranged Weapon - To the left of the Health Meter is the number of Ranged Weapons
the character has remaining. Ranged Weapons are useful for
dealing small damage at the expense of not taking any,
Skill Meter - At the of the Experience Meter is the most important meter other
than the Health Meter, the Skill Meter. To earn higher ratings
and gain more experience points, string together successful hits
to make the Skill Meter go around. There are four ratings: Fair,
Good, Excellent, and Perfect. If the Perfect rating is achieved
all of your attacks cause additional damage for a brief period
of time and the experience received for each kill is doubled.
Crucial Information - Located in the upper right-hand corner is where any
vital or crucial information will be placed. There is
more then one gauge, but they all represent paths you
must take, tasks you must accomplish, or enemies that
you must be slayed.
Note: Parrying (Square) is a vital part of swordplay. It deflects incoming
arrows, prevents damage if outnumbered, and when done successfully, allows
you to perform instant killing moves. Jumping back (L2) can help maintain
your health. Walking over potions recovers health and arrows can be found
lying on the ground occasionaly.

An agile character who can easily reach Perfect Mode. Gandalf\'s attacks are
swift and deadly as he fights through crowds of enemies. His special ability
is his best strength; upon execution a magic shield surrounds Gandalf as he
fights. Also coming with a great missile attack, Gandalf can fit any players
style.

Aragorn is a well-balanced character and the last descendant of the Kings of
Men. As a Ranger and Elf friend, Aragorn\'s bow skills allow him to defeat
opponents at long range. Though skilled with a bow, Aragorn\'s best strength
lies in his close combat. Aragorn wields the reforged Narsil, the legendary
sword that struck down Sauron, and easily defeats multiple foes with his great
strength and haste.

Legolas is fast character of the Elven heritage. While speed is his best
offense it also serves as his best defense; Legolas can easily run from most
groups. Arrows also serve Legolas well as they do the most damage of any other
character\'s ranged attack. Players who like getting the job done will surely
enjoy playing as Legolas.

Baggins. Not normally a fighter, Frodo uses only a short sword that Bilbo gave

having a shorter range.
