                        -----------=-=-=-----------

Version 1.00: - The submitted ".hack//Games Perfect Game: Infection" FAQ.
09-30-2006

Version 1.11: - 1.10: added 4.6 for an annoying bug regarding emailorder if
10-04-2006 you convert with that game's max Affection. CHECK FOR SURE!
                - 1.11: changed some minor mistakes like TB instead of TW, or
'NPCs 57-70' instead of 'last 14 NPcs'

Version 1.21: - 1.20: changed chracter order in 4.6, check it up. It's
10-14-2006 complete now. I've also changed something there, regarding
not opening emails: you can open them, but you should select
'Don't reply'. This will avoid it going crazy by the new mail
message in Root Towns, and you can still reply to it.
                - 1.20: changed some minor mistakes: the levels of buyable Rare
weapons are NOT different, the close consilation prize in
Grunty Races is server specific, forgot the Ice Bar in the
Total Checklist, added 5.5 with amounts you need of all
elemental items and axes, and I relocated the stat books
(which I hadn't yet when I was writing this FAQ).
                - 1.20: added parts in both the specific and total checklist:
I added a part regarding the 'Total NPC trades', so that you
don't have to pick out the good stat boost items to know if
you're on scedule with the trades.
And I added a Elf's Haven <> Rare item spaces ratio: how many
you have and how many you can still store.
                - 1.21: once again changed some TW to TB, corrected some lines
that were 80 characters long and I corrected some spelling
                  mistakes.

Version 1.30: - 1.30: added my OWN stockpile of emailchain answers in the
10-23-2006 final section of the Infection Fixed Events: 5.6. Nothing,
however, is now proven different from the Email FAQs IN
CONTRADICTION WITH MUTATION! SEE THE MUTATION FAQ!

Version 1.41: - 1.40: upon the start of the Outbreak FAQ, I decided to update
11-26-2006 some rules and event info to what they really mean and how
important they are. Rules that have some parts changed are
the rare item, email and fixed NPC rules. Changed something
regarding the Goblin Key Item: it has no 'summon allow'
                  effect, only a chain effect.
                - 1.40: completely devided the emails in the checklists:
storymails, chainmails and endingmails. The latter two are
missable. The total is still there, which is the sum of the
                  three standalone.
                - 1.40: instead of a plus, I now use a colon to seperate
mutiple effects at the 'status' and 'received' sections.
                - 1.41: added something regarding allies GP at 3.4.

The .hack series are well known series throughout anime-game fans, and in rare
occasions game-only fans. The .hack game series offer a sequel on .hack//SIGN,
a two-season featured anime series about a modern MMORPG called 'The World'. In
the games, you play in that same world, continuing the story from the anime.

The games consist of four games, and each will need a different! FAQ for the
PG. They are too different to put it in one FAQ. I will make several notices of
that.

I decided to create a PG FAQ almost a year ago, however, to get it myself I had
to replay; and at that time I wasn't really happy with that (I just completed
them). Now, I am replaying and doing anything I didn't do at that time. Rules
to view below. Good luck.

                        -----------=-=-=-----------

This section will explain all the what and hows of the perfect game, or maybe
more specific for a four-game-ranged series, perfect file (despite this I will
still call this one a perfect game a whole, as the games are to be perfect on
their own, it's the combination of the four which makes it complete).

I will explain the rules in an overview first, making it easy for those who
know the game pretty well. After that, I'll state them in-depth, explaining all
ins-and-outs of the rules specified. After that I will summarize that to be
larger than the overview, but less then the in-depth overview. Lastly, there is
a flawed rule section, which states any to be followed rules, however, these
rules are extremely hard, impossible or insuffient to maintain and I will
explain why that is so.

Mainly, these rules do not change per game and will NOT be repeated in either
FAQ, only in this one, which will count for any section except for the
Fixed Events, Checklists and Credits.

                        =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=
3.1 Overview Rules
                        =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=

- Obtain all characters.
- Obtain at least one of each 'Rare' insignatured equipment.
- Obtain all limited/rare items.
- Obtain all emails and in order of character acquisition (SEE 4.6!!).
- Obtain the maximum amount of trades for the NPCs 57-70.
- Obtain empty trade sheets for the NPCs 57-70 at the end of Quarantine.
- Obtain a perfect Grunty file.
- Obtain all limited prizes for Grunty Races.

These last rules do not have specific game regulations, however, you are
possible to do so (if you want the seperate DATA FLAGs to be perfect as well):

- Obtain the maximum level for all characters.
- Obtain the best equipment for all characters.
- Obtain the maximum elemental status for all characters.
- Obtain maximum affection for all characters.
- Obtain and max out all Ryo Books.
- Obtain all items for the Item Completon Event.

In theory, if one keeps to these rules, you will have anthing that is possible
to be checked at the end of Quarantine. There are certain rules that might to
differ, for that, see the flawed rules.

                        =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=
3.2 Indepth Rules
                        =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=

-- Obtain all characters.
Only one is really missable: or at least, in the Japanese version, and 6 others
are optional. However, they do have optional quests for you if you recruit them
ASAP after they make their first appearance, so I will have them rely to the
urgent mark. The missable one, however, can only be part of your party AFTER
Quarantine, as so are three non-optional characters.

Two characters require you to give away a Rare weapon (see below). These can
be rebought in the next game, so no worries. And otherwise, you can't get the
characters, which is more important. For a character overview, see the email
rule and the chained 4.6.

As for that 'missable' or not, it is said that the possibility of missing this
character are only in the JP version of the game. Nonetheless, I'll put a
notice for 'Convertious' in Outbreak.

-- Obtain at least one of each 'Rare' insignatured equipment.
Obtaining the equipment pieces that have a yellow 'Rare' signature, can be
obtained through five! methods: one, Data Draining; two, trading; three,
receiving; four, buying and five, getting them from !fixed! chests. In theory,
the only obtainable way that is not used for rare equipment is normal chests;
however, all the rare equipment to obtain is fixed and can't be changed. Most
of these have only one copy, except for the Data Drainable and buyable ones. I
will mention all of these, either missable or not.

Note: use Elf's Haven to store all of these limited items. You can find them in
every Root Town, and it allows your item space to enlarge from 40 to 139. 99
seperate items can be stored in there, and believe me: this will all be Rare at
the end of the four games. If it fits? Look at the Outbreak FAQ for that.
Any of the and limited items should be stored in the Elf's Haven instantly,
and you should keep the duplicate copies of Data Drain weapons. This way, you
avoid losing one-time only items, and you avoid forgetting which DD weapon you
already had. If you get mutiple DD weapons, give them to your allies or equip
them yourself to make the game easier.

-- Obtain all limited/rare items.
Obtaining these is almost identical to rare equipment: they can be obtained
through trading, receiving and fixed chests, and as well in the in Mutation
introduced Grunty Races. As these do not have a mark, I will mention the rare
ones, and should be well checked before converting; thus reducing the chance
of a mistake. Also keep yourself to the rule: getting is storing.

Some people might ask themselfs why they shouldn't just use the limited items.
This seems logical, as they can ease the game up (in Outbreak with 17/18 of
both type of Grunties it will truly differ Kite's stats). Two reasons: one,
will you keep track of what you've got thus far if you keep using all the
items? The only problem regarding this matter is that those statbook items will
truly fill up Elf's Haven after a while (you'll get problems in the aftermath
of Outbreak already, not to mention Quarantine at all). But that gets me to the
second reason: is it as profitable to use all the items on Kite? Theoratically
I'd say yes, but I want to wait on Quarantine if possible. For any matters
regarding the use of statboost items and a full Elf's Haven, see the
corresponding sections in the Outbreak and Quarantine FAQs (the amount of items
is not too much in Infection and Mutation, so it won't matter too much).

-- Obtain all emails and in order of character acquisition.
Upon getting certain amounts of Affection for characters (Ryo Book V), you will
initiate their email chain. This is a right/wrong sequence where they will
reply if you give the right answer, and the opposite. Of course with
exceptions.

Affection is 1000 max in Quarantine, and is 250 less max in the pre-games (250,
500, 750). Obtain AF by giving your allies useful stuff (usually their kind of
weapons); this is an useful action if you want to get through the games at all,
so use it. It is received throughout the emailchains too (usually 10 per right
answer).

Reply with the answer that will return the most emails till the end; that's the
only restriction. Affection from the mails cannot be checked, so if two options
assure the next mail but do not both add towards Affection it doesn't matter.
If there is a difference in subject/mail though, than stick to the Affection
adding mail. As the 1.30 was added to GF: check the final Fixed Events section
for an emailchain answer tree.

Now part two of this rule. It makes it a bit harder, and I like that. BTW, it's
better viewed this way: get all chainemails in order you got the characters.
Character order is mentioned in section 4.6, where there is also a very
annoying bug stated regarding this matter. Check it for sure.

How to do this? Well, in Infection it's easy. Just max out the characters after
you got them. In the next games, however, you should max out BR first, email
everything, max out Mistral, and so on. For ending mails, this is an irrelevant
rule. It doesn't care if you get those all at a time. However, as stated, check
4.6 for problems.

THIS IS GAME SPECIFIC! If you were to start maxing out characters in Mutation
and on, lets say BlackRose, you will still receive her emailchain of Infection,
which is in order, but it will continue instantly with her Mutation chain! So
do this each game!

To check who do have emailchains and when they actually appear, check 4.7. This
added section lists of every game if there are people who don't send you mails,
and when they actually appear in the game, or how many there are. Wise to check.

VERY IMPORTANT NOTE
===================
For as far as I have noticed, the ending mails of all games will ONLY appear at
a certain moment in the storyline! When you do not have enough affection at
that point, that mail is gone forever, which is as worse as losing a mail in
an emailchain. Make sure to max everybody's affection BEFORE NEARING THE END!
Common exceptions are those that do not send you emailchains in that particular
game; they won't send you ending mails either.

-- Obtain the maximum amount of trades for the NPCs 57-70.
THE WHAT? Hehheh. Take it easy, it's easier than you think. Ever noticed those
NPCs in Root Towns that only have three trades for you, and will strangely
enough accept nothing? That is because they have fixed trades. 12 of them use
Elemental Items acquired froms destroying jars, bones, etc in dungeons. You
receive the item that is corresponding with the area element. The last 2 use
Golden and Silver Axes, which can be obtained by trowing a Rare equipment in
a Spring of Myst and selecting Neither (on a sidenote: it also works to throw
in the Axes themselfs, as the Drop can't adjust them either; that's pretty
ironic actually :D).

In most cases, any character will have a specific item dedicated to them. Two
times for any elemental item and the Golden and Silver Axe seperated. However,
sometimes, any NPC who wants elemental items will combine two of them, and so
is the same between the Axes NPCs. I will mention what you need to trade them
all their trades.

These trades are specifically fixed, but are not Rare in most cases. Giving
them away or selling them is possible, although the equipment is mostly very
good for that particular game. The trades will not return during a game itself.
These trades CHANGE UPON CONVERTION! So you should trade all 3 in one game
(for all of them), convert and do so again. In the end, the most logical amount
of trades would be 42 per character, 168 total (14*3=42*4=168). This is not
entirely true. See the rule below.

NOTE: maybe you didn't notice yet, but all other NPCs have an unlimited amount
of trades. They carry scrolls or potions which you can trade everytime they're
online over and over again. Some of the armor or weapons of regular NPCs might
not return though: for example, your characters carry the same weapons and
armor throughout a specific game, limited to those trades, but they also carry
an unlimited Speed Charm. Just so you get the idea.

-- Obtain empty trade sheets for the the NPCs 57-70 at the end of Quarantine.
This is only a mere addition of the last rule. From Mutation on, there will be
NPCs of the 14 in question (11) that want a rare item to trade for a one-time
only rare equipment. These items can be found in random dungeos, of which the
keywords were found in magazines and/or in the non-subtitled version of
Liminality.

What's the catch? Upon getting the rare equipment listed, it will reappear on
the NPC's trade list in the next game(s) too. However, the rare items themselfs
are one-time only. So, what's the side-effect? Well, lets say you trade the
equipment in either Mutation or Outbreak, there is no way possible to trade
it again in Quarantine. And even if you were to trade these equipments during
Quarantine, the total amount of trades will not change, as you can only get
the corresponding items once anyway. So, wait with getting the rare equipment
until Quarantine so that these NPCs will stick with an empty trade sheet,
rather than having the rare equipment being there forever.

In case you're wondering: but then I'm trading off a rare item! Yes, that's
right, but it's on a 1-on-1 basis: you get one rare equipment for one rare
item. You can't get those equipment in any other way, and FAFAIK, equipment has
a purpose, these items do not.

-- Obtain a perfect Grunty file.
Ah! Something totally different, but as easy as pie. Ryo Book VIII lists two
things: the amount of Grunty Food obtained (nothing fixable about it) and the
amount you've raised of each Grunty. This last one is special.

Why? Well, in 4 servers you can create 3 different Grunties. This is a total of
12, and you can create a Noble Grunty in each server, which means there are 9
different ones. In theory, you can create unlimited Grunties. However, only
until ALL the different Grunties in that server have been created, after which
the Little Grunty will not return. 'Duplicate' Grunties will fly off, as their
species companion will supply you with his/her trades, but they will be added
towards the Ryo Book file.

Your goal here? Try to simply get 12 Grunties on the fie, a minimal file: one
of each, 4 Nobles; so load if you create a duplicate Grunty. Some people
referred to me to get 4 of each, as that is possible (keep creating good ones
until you have four of both and create a Noble next). That is just plain
useless, boring and IMO not better than the minimal amount.

To create Grunties, use Grunty Food found in areas and dungeons on the Kid in
each server, except for Delta (which has none). All different food changes
different attributes: that's not truly important for creating, this is: make
sure to create a Lvl 2 Kid by giving it 5 Golden Eggs (in Theta, more in next
servers); Golden Eggs only raises 2 Size.

Give everything he wants one by one:
- Finish off with Golden Eggs once he starts asking for it to get the best
  Grunty.
- For the middle Grunty, its Attributes should be a little different from the
best, change once you only have 2-3 Size to go. THIS REQUIRES SAVING, AS YOU
CAN'T KNOW WHAT YOU NEED! I can give a hint: feeding it the more rare Root
Vegetable from the Golden Egg phase on will create the second Grunty mostly.
This is no failsafe theory though, and the amount needed is also differnt.
- For the Noble Grunty, just spam anything: Eggs are nice as they give 2 Size
instead of 1 and are pretty common as you need to visit dungeons for quests.

NOTE: even though these are not entirely game specific, you must create the
best Grunty in each new server of the new game, as it carries Aromatic Grass.
AG is a useless treasure that grants Mia 100AF, however, they are limited to
10 (so a limited item). How? You can trade 1 of each best Grunty, in each
server, in each game. As a new server opens each game, that makes 4 for the
best Grunty in Theta, 3 for the one in Lambda, 2 for the one in Sigma and 1
for the one in Omega. From Mutation on, the Grunties also carry Golden/Silver
Grunties, so don't forget it!

- Obtain all limited prizes for Grunty Races.
In addition to creating the minimal amount of Grunties, you should get all the
limited prizes from Grunty Races. What do I mean with limited? Well, each
server with Grunties has races (from Mutation on though). These are saved
throughout the 4 games, so they are not game specific (they are server specific
though!). The prize system goes like this:
        - 1st-3rd time 1st Place = Golden Grunty.
        - 1st-3rd time 2nd Place = Silver Grunty.
        - 1st-3rd time 3rd Place = Fixed item (server specific).
        - >3rd time 1st-3rd Place = Fixed item (for each place per server).
        - Consilation (close to 3rd place) = Fixed item (server specific).
        - Consilation (nothing like it/abandon) = Fortune Wire.
Any of the 'Fixed' items in the above system will not be rare, but as you can
see, the first three places have three limited items, of which the first two
places are six rare stat boosting items. So, this is part of the rare/limited
items, right? True, but I think it's pretty mandatory you get the 3 3rd place
prizes too: this will make you complete all Grunty Races. The fourth time/place
items aren't important. But believe me, you will get enough of those throughout
this quest XD.

-- Obtain the maximum level for all characters.
In Quarantine, this is 99. For the other games, there's no amount. Enough said.
The Bracelet gives the most EXP on higher levels. Data Drain a Guardian to get
one. They appear random in Lv99 areas.

-- Obtain the best equipment for all characters.
Let me say one thing: this CAN be personal preference, so you might change it.
However, choosing this is not based on stats/level, but on different abilities
listed. This can be game specific, but it's pretty useless in the first three,
as it changes to much better ones in the next game pretty fast. Check the
Quarantine FAQ for the complete list.

- Obtain the maximum elemental status for all characters.
Certain areas of the highest level have Elemental Stat Books in the Gott. As
these are repetitive, one can max the elemental status of all elements of all
characters. This takes time. Read the areas on the Cheats & Secrets section on
GF or in the Quarantine FAQ.

- Obtain maximum affection for all characters.
Most of this has been explained, including trying to get it max in each game to
receive every email. 1000 is reached easily. If you're stuck in Quarantine, use
Lv2 Summon Items, which can be obtained from the Omega Server's Item Shop.

- Obtain and max out all Ryo Books.
The Ryo Books are obtained through Data Drain. There are a total of eight, and
you get one each 10 Data Drains. In a normal playthrough, one should have all
at the end of Infection.

The general usage (in your Key Items) is to keep track of your stats non-play
wise. These vary from Playtime to Grunty food obtained, and I used reference in
the rules already. Find all their usages out on your own.

There is another part though. Ryo Books can give you more images and sounds for
your ALTIMIT desktop, and you can unlock cutscenes of all games. These are
obtained by reaching certain statistics on a Ryo Book (i.e 5 hour play time).
I will not list all the requirements, the rule is simple. If something in a
Ryo Book is maxed out for that game, it will display a red line. The goal is
to obtain only red lines once in Quarantine. Just keep spamming the remaining
statistics, and you will get them all.

-- Obtain all items for the Item Completon Event.
Now that you have every Rare item in your Elf's Haven, nobody can check if you
ever got all of the normal items... no, better, did you? Well, then this rule
comes into play. At the midway of Quarantine, a new event is introduced what is
closed pretty soon after it: The Item Completion Event.

It will re-open after Quarantine, and the name probably says all. Talk to a
store NPC and any of your currently possesed items will be scanned and added to
the Item Completion List (except for of course the Rare equipment and limited
items, as there is a possibility you missed/sold them permanently). This list
ranges from usable items to all normal equipment available. Complete the list:
that's the simple rule. Check the Quarantine FAQ for hints and tips.

3.3 Indepth Rules Summary
                        =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=

Woah, what a lot of text. But you do understand it, right? No? Damn. Well, then
there is a summary here of all overview rules, with notes in form of lines so
that you can understand it easier. I suggest that you read the above once,
and print this list so that nothing can be forgotten.

- Obtain all characters.
        - Get them ASAP after you know you can: they have optional quests and
it is needed to get the emails in order.
        - To obtain the Memberaddress of two, you need give away a Rare weapon.
These are the two buyable ones in the next game, so no harm done.
        - Don't miss the final character! Although I have comfirmation he's not
          missable, don't take any risks!
        - I WILL ONLY MENTION OPTIONAL CHARACTERS (memberaddresses can't be
          sold)!
- Obtain at least one of each 'Rare' insignatured equipment.
        - They care a yellow Rare signature next to Lvl.
        - Only few of these are missable, but don't get behind too much, you
could have problems, if overlevelled, for Data Draining.
        - You have to give away two pieces. These are rebuyable in the next
          game.
- Obtain all limited/rare items.
        - These are NOT MARKED. Doublecheck any Checklist for these before
          converting.
        - This section is linked with the above and the Grunty File rule.
- Obtain all emails and in order of character acquisition.
        - Get enough Affection and reply with the right answer.
        - If there's no reply possible, you can't reply it.
        - MAKE SURE THAT YOU MAX THEM IN ORDER OF ACQUISITION!
        - This is also counted in re-Infection games, where you already have
8 characters: max those first in their usual order.
        - CHECK 4.6!!!
- Obtain the maximum amount of trades for the NPCs 57-70.
        - These change each game, so trade all possible before converting.
        - Take note that you only need to trade fixed trades, not random ones
of other NPCs, they have unlimited trades!
- Obtain empty trade sheets for the NPCs 57-70 at the end of Quarantine.
        - Once the above NPCs get rare equipment in their last slot, only
trade it once you arrived in Quarantine.
- Obtain a perfect Grunty file.
        - Create the minimal amount of Grunties. One of each, except for
Nobles: one in each server = 4.
        - Load if a duplicate one is created.
        - Give what it wants for the best, change that a little for the middle
and just spam anything for the Noble Grunty.
- Obtain all limited prizes for Grunty Races.
        - The first three places in the Grunty Races of each server have
limited items, which can be obtained three times.
        - Any fourth time 1st/2nd/3rd place or consilation prize is irrelevant.
- Obtain the maximum level for all characters
        - 99 = Quarantine = by The Bracelet.
- Obtain the best equipment for all characters.
        - Opinion subject. Check the Quarantine FAQ for reference.
- Obtain the maximum elemental status for all characters.
        - Certain areas carry Elemental Stat Books. Check the Quarantine FAQ.
- Obtain maximum affection for all characters.
        - Give them their weapons or armors and they will be happy.
        - Affection has max values: 250/Infection, 500/Mutation, 750/Outbreak,
          1000/Quarantine=total.
- Obtain and max out all Ryo Books.
        - Obtain them each 10 Data Drains. There are 8 of them.
        - Max them by meeting certain statistics. You get it when you see it.
- Obtain all items for the Item Completon Event.
        - Complete this reintroduced event by letting the store NPCs scan your
items. Rare items do not count.
        - Tips to get certain items are in FAQs or, of this streak, in the
          Quarantine FAQ.

3.4 Flawed rules
                        =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=

- Obtain maximum GP/Items/Equipment/Virus Cores/Grunty Food.
Good luck. It will take hours and hours, whilst they do not run away from you:
you can get it at any time at the end of Quarantine. You can start, but it's
not mandatory: items is relative easy, so that is not a problem. The other
three is just plain boring. The most boring is getting 99 of all DD Rare
weapons. That takes too frikkin long...

- Obtain maximum Items/Equipment for allies.
I.e to the above; only 20 times as hard (as there are 20 characters).

- Obtain maximum GP for allies.
Alright, I've checked something up and I've noticed the formula in which your
allies use GP. Your character will restock on items even without GP, but it
will be used if they have it. They will never buy their own armors/weapons, you
have to give them that (that's part of the whole gameplay).

They will not carry more than 20 items. This is important; all the items that
they have 'more' will be sold, starting at the lowest amount item. So they work
their way up with the amounts of items. As the max GP goes into millions: don't
think about maxing theirs. Yours is difficult enough.

4.0 About the FAQs
                        -----------=-=-=-----------

This section will explain how the four FAQs are set up, as this is the same for
all of them. Except if you look at game convertion, which is a virtual bridge
between the 4 games. Check 4.1.

Next it's explained how I put up the Checklists in each FAQ. Meaning, you can
already tell from this section or the ToC, I will not provide any extensive
guide or walkthrough. It obliterates the fun completely, and this should only
be for reference.

The third section is something EXTREMELY IMPORTANT. If you're going to use the
Checklist, read this and the previous section before even trying, as you won't
understand anything of it (perhaps the area, which is all). This, because this
section is explaining the legenda I used for setting up the areas/obtained
items in the previous explained section, the Checklist. Certain signs are used
to refer to a certain kind of area of item and should be known at least.

The fourth section is only a useful addition to the two previous parts, where
I'll put down some examples with their 'solution' so that you have a bit of
feeling how the setup works.

The last section is a closure of this main section, where I list what will NOT
be mentioned in the Checklists. If you are to send me an email, read that
first, as I won't reply about those subjects either.

                        =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=
4.1 Game differences/Convertion
                        =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=

This series exists in a range of four whole, even seperated games. You can
continue the next game by completing the previous (final boss), and saving a
'DATA FLAG'. This will be explained in an email if you complete Infection; I
will not get into it too much. This will be called (obviously) 'Convertion'
from now on.

The games are mainly seperated on level and events (of which the last is
obvious). The levels look like this:

Infection: 1 - 30.
Mutation: 31 - 50.
Outbreak: 51 - 70.
Quarantine: 71 - 99.

In theory, each game is limited to 99, however, anywhere above the maximum
amount of that game, the enemies will give you less EXP as they're the highest
level of that game as maximum. The general amount you level beyond the enemies'
highest level when extensively continuing a particular game ranges from two
to five, which doesn't make the next game entirely easier.

What is important for the PG? Not necessary the levels, which only slow your
progress. No, it's the events in combination with convertion. Certain events or
trades in one game will not be able anymore in the next game, in theory, this
is ALMOST ALL of these certain events.

Now this doesn't mean you 'must' do everything, no, I explained certain of
these convertion mistakes in the 3rd section. That's the main part of it, so
you should check there, or obviously, if you're in the current game of which
the FAQ you're viewing, the Checklist.

                        =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=
4.2 Checklists layout
                        =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=

This will provide the sketch of the checklists you'll be using in the FAQs.
So far, anything has been text. From now on, everything will be in tables or
sketches.

Game checklists provide all items that are considered rare and available in
that particular game. Doing so, they are not repeated in the next game
(characters might not be rare, but the point is the same). The order I list
them is:
- Optional characters in character order.
- Items/equipment in order they are to be viewed in the Elf's Haven.
- Fixed trades.
- Grunties.
- Email/Ryo Book reminder.

Total checklists provide a total combination of every item: this is a combo of
all previous games and the game's FAQ you're currently viewing. No areas/fiends
are mentioned here, as you already (should) have them. The same counts for the
item statistics, EXCEPT FOR STATUS AND TYPE.

4.2.1: GAME CHECKLIST
=====================
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
[Item]: [Status/Received] [Type/Amount/Level/Class]

Class: only for equipment. For Weapons, which class, otherwise
                        it will be light/medium/heavy armor.
*The fixed NPC trades are all used under the name 'NPC Fixed'. Take note that
not counted towards this are the statchanging items and rare equipment acquired
from them. HOWEVER, in the total checklist I'll provide a reminder of the TOTAL
amount of NPC trades; you'll only need to count them in Ryo Book III to check
it then.

Fiend: the Data Drainable fiend's name (area not specified,
UNLESS IT IS NOT A RANDOM FIEND (I.E MISSABLE ITEMS)).

                        Sports Drink/Cooked Bile/Holy Sap/Well Water/Golden

Grunty or how many times it must be acquired (racing).

Explanation:
Most of these speak for themselfs. I'll explain the item statusses and area
type/event:

The item statusses are missable, convertable, urgent, chained and no status.
- Missable: can be missed if one takes a wrong turn somewhere or does
something wrong. In theory, there are only FIVE items with this
status: it will get a different sign in the legenda, but it
will also sometimes be mentioned in a side-note at the
                situation in question.
- Convertious: can be missed if one converts to fast. These are, compared to
missable, extremely common. So much is decided through
                convertion that it's almost unlimited.
- Urgent: although the subject itself is not missable or convertious,
something that is connected to it is. Get it ASAP.
- Chain: something that is not missable or convertious is connected to
it. I suggest that you still get these ASAP to avoid getting
                behind.
- None: no particular status is connected to it: it can be gotten at
any time without problems. This is really frequent in
Quarantine, as convertion will no longer take place.

The area type are story, optional and random.
- Story: acquired by story development; cannot be missed and must be
                done to continue the game.
- Optional: gotten through mails/BBS/events by allies mostly, for optional
quests. Can be skipped if one wants to continue the story.
- Random: random selected by the player at any time.

The area events are email, BBS, in-game and random.
- Email: area is gotten through an email.
- BBS: area is written in a Board post (in-game).
- In-game: area is gotten during an event when logged in.
- Random: area is not provided by internal actions.

4.2.2: TOTAL CHECKLIST
======================
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
[Item]: [Status] [Type/Amount] [Game(s)].
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Explantion:
- Amount is used to list the total amount of trades you need for fixed NPCs and
for items which MUST have duplicates (so no DD equipment).
- Game(s) is used for reference to the corresponding FAQ(s), if one missed
something.

*These are the special items<->equipment trades from the fixed NPCs. I will
list the items in the Items section, so you should use the Find fuction if you
know what item you need to trade a certain weapon.

**If a certain part of the formula is not used, a minus is placed. For status,
this means it's impossible to miss an item, because one has to continue with
that part to proceed in the story. At a fiend's resistance, it means both are
effective.

The total checklists follow the abbreviations of the normal Item legenda,

4.4 Examples
                        =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=

Aromatic Grass: !!!/<> $$/01/--/--
        T: Iron Grunty 0/20GP/1

Solution: the item is one treasure called Aromatic Grass. This is traded with
the Iron Grunty for random items worthy of 20 Gold Points. This item is
convertious and must be acquired within the game of which you're viewing the
Checklist.

Amateur Blades: {!!!}/DD X>/03/01/TB
D: Bursting Passed Over Aqua Field ST/IG
        D: Orca.

Solution (this is obviously a joke example): the items are three Lv1 Twin Blade
weapons called Amateur Blades, This is a missable weapon that must be acquired
by Data Draining a fiend called Orca in the area Delta: Bursting Passed Over
Aqua Field. This area is gotten by an in-game scene that is connected to the
story. We may assume that there are only three Orca fiends available and you
mus Data Drain them all to get all three weapons. There might be a possibility
that the fiends disappear if you leave, so be consistent!

NPC Fixed: !!!/<> <>/30/--/--
        Alicia WW/20/2
Power Book !!!/<> +-/01/--/--
        Alicia WW/25/1

Solution (the remaining 13 NPCs are left out of the example): the subject are
30 convertious trades of the fixed NPCs. To trade all the trades of Alicia,
which are 2, I have to obtain 20 Well Water. In addition, her 3rd trade is a
convertious Power Book statchange book for which I need 25 Well Water. As you
can notice, one needs 45 Well Water to trade everything with Alicia. Still, I
think it's important that one seperates the rare items from normal equipment
in these trades; it might only end up in a store's 'sold box' or in your stats.

Iron Grunty !X!/OO OO/01/--/--
T: Highland City Don Loireag ST/[]
Poison Grunty =/OO OO/01/--/--
T: Highland City Don Loireag ST/[]

Solution: these are two seperate creations of Grunties in the Theta server's
Root Town. Their difference is that the Iron Grunty has an Urgent mark, and the
Poison Grunty has a Chained mark. This is because the Iron Grunty is linked to
the convertious Aromatic Grass. The only thing the Poison Grunty is chained to
are the Grunty Races, and those have no status. A slight addition: the area is
gotten through a storyline email; in this case it's the same as we're talking
about the Root Town.

Spiral Edge 0/>$ X>/--/02/TB
        L: Root Town ST/[]
        Weapon Shop Owner -/200GP

Solution: something that wasn't extensive explained in the sections above:
buying. The item is a buyable Lv2 Twin Blade weapon with no status. The weapon
must be bought at the weapon shop in Lambda's Root Town for 200GP. Take note
that amount is not specified; they are just 200GP each without limit.

                        =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=

- Virus Cores/Grunty Foods/Regular Equipment/Regular Items
Nothing to explain, is there? The Perfect Game fixes itself on rare and limited
items, so these usual items are not included. So don't mail me where to get
specific ones of these, as I won't mail back: 'rare' Virus Cores are fixed: you
can't get more than you need for hacking.

- Ryo Books.
Find that out on your own. Also, they truly have no status: you can do it
throughout the four games at any time. I will mention a slight reminder in both
lists, in case you want to print them.

- Boss/Phase strategies/fiend strategies/how to Data Drain.
This shouldn't be too hard, and if it is, check full FAQs.

- Fixed Event Items.
You can't miss these; they are story related and must be obtained: you can't do
anything with the selectable Book of Law and Iron, explained in Mutation. The
Etipaths and Notes can be reviewed, except for ?. That's all. What is mentioned
are the Goblin related Key Items. Check the 5th section.

4.6 Emailchain Affection bug
                        =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=

As mentioned in the indepth rules, there is a very annoying bug regarding
getting the emails in order. Whilst not extremely important, one might dislike
it. To get this rule to work at all, you need the character order. The reason
why I posted it here is that I wanted people to read the bug as well.

Character order is:
        - Kite (he is still a character, right?).
        - BlackRose.
        - Mistral.
        - Piros (optional).
        - Mia (is preferred as she has a higher priotity in the story).
        - Elk (received together with Mia).
        - Natsume (optional).
        - Sanjuro (optional, above Gardenia: higher stated on the BBS).
        - Gardenia (optional, can be acquired at the same time as Sanjuro).
        - Nuke Usagimaru (optional, above Rachel: higher stated on the BBS).
        - Rachel (optional, can be acquired at the same time as Nuke).
        - Moonstone (optional).
        - Marlo (optional).
        - Wiseman.
        - Balmung.
        - Terajima Ryoko (optional).
        - Orca (endgame).
        - Tsukasa (endgame).
        - Subaru (endgame).
        - Helba (endgame).
        - Sora (endgame).
It's fully correct now.

Take note that Orca is not counted at the start of Infection, as he will
disappear there, making it impossible to max his Affection; his mailchain is
only available in Quarantine.

Now, onto the bug. In Infection, everything will work, as long as you keep
yourself to the order. Take note that the ending mails suggest that Natsume is
put AFTER Sanjuro/Gardenia, what you should ignore (I don't get why she's
there). Of other characters I still can't say if they're in a logical position
for the same reason as the order itself.

Onto the bug: lets say you continue a lot in Infection. You get all those
annoying elemental items, here and there some equipment, virus cores or grunty
food. Naturally, everyone's Affection is maxed at the end of each game (now I
talk generally). HOWEVER: once you convert to upcoming games, Mutation is the
example here, you will receive ALL first emails of the next emailchain!

I don't know the exact values, but one can guess AF is high enough to initiate
the next mailchains. Even worse, if you reply to the characters of which you
receive the Last Boss email (you will receive an email from the two characters
you use at the last phase of the previous game; these also generate AF if the
right answer is given) you will already get the SECOND mail as well!

What's the procedure for this bug? Here it is, step by step:
1) You should NOT try to not get max AF for each game. That is WAY TOO MUCH
trouble. BTW, it is also part of maxing the games on their own, which you
   might want to follow.
2) Instead, you should just receive all the first mails in the next game.
3) Open them up, BUT DO NOT REPLY TO THEM. No, the only one you should reply to
is the one of BlackRose. For the others, choose 'Don't reply'.
4) Email back the right answer.
5) Max her AF, and finish her emailchain.
6) Repeat for Mistral from step 3 on. After Mistral, Piros. Go on with the
   regular character order after him.
Take note that not mailing back instant DOES NOT cancel the chain. It's just on
a hold at any time, and may be replied to at any time. use this procedure for
every game and nothing will be wrong (a slight mislocation of the first emails:
if you care about that you're even crazier than me).

If you don't understand the bug too well, I'll give you the overview of the
mailer at the start of the Mutation (I used Sanjuro at the first phase). This
EXCLUDES the story mails.

MAILER

Natsume (first chainmail mutation)
Gardenia (first chainmail mutation)
Sanjuro (first chainmail mutation)

Gardenia (last chainmail infection)
Gardenia (third chainmail infection)
... (second, and so on)

If you use the procedure, this will be the most well viewed outcome:

"Well, what's this again?" Woho, take it easy :D, this is only a helpful
section. In the previous versions of this FAQ, I forgot this section and that
is pretty stupid. What is it then? In this section I'll give a brief overview,
in game order, what the events are regarding emailchains or regular emails.
Not too hard really, here goes a setup:
- *chracters available in character order*
- *character who won't send chainmail*
- *regular amount of mails* -> *exceptions*
- *extra note*
Now for the games:

INFECTION
=========
- BlackRose, Mistral, Piros, Mia, Elk, Natsume, Sanjuro, Gardenia.
- Mia, Elk.
- 4 -> BlackRose/Mistral=5.
- None.

MUTATION
========
- BlackRose, Mistral, Piros, Mia, Elk, Natsume, Sanjuro, Gardenia, Nuke,
  Rachel, Moonstone, Marlo, Wiseman.
- Mia, Elk, Wiseman.
- 4 -> BlackRose/Mistral=5.
- There are two extra emails from the characters you used at Phase 1.

OUTBREAK
========
- BlackRose, Mistral, Piros, Mia, Elk, Natsume, Sanjuro, Gardenia, Nuke,
Rachel, Moonstone, Marlo, Wiseman, Balmung, Terajima Ryoko.
- Mistral, Mia, Elk.
- 4 -> BlackRose/Wiseman/Balmung=5.
- At a certain point, you must clear a dungeon with Piros. After THAT point,
the emailchains of all chracters will be avaiable. Balmung's and Terajima's
are available after you get them, so watch out that you don't get their's
first. BlackRose has another mini-chain; for this check the Outbreak FAQ
  extensively.

QUARANTINE
==========
- BlackRose, Mistral, Piros, Mia, Elk, Natsume, Sanjuro, Gardenia, Nuke,
Rachel, Moonstone, Marlo, Wiseman, Balmung, Terajima Ryoko, Orca, Tsukasa,
  Subaru, Helba, Sora.
- None.

5.0 Infection Fixed Events
                        -----------=-=-=-----------

In the games, pretty much rare items can be acquired through fixed events which
can be previewed before the Checklists. This way, you'll know the location and
action to get certain rare items before you are viewing the Checklists. I
listed three of these events, and more may follow in next games.

5.1 Goblin Tag
                        =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=

A recurring event throughout the four games is the Goblin Tag challenge. The
Tag challenge is an optional challenge which can be acquired through the BBS at
specified times (which I won't list).

You will get a link from a Goblin, who challenges you for a 'tag battle'.
What's the actual idea? You have to go to the area alone, and simply defeat the
(three) Goblin(s) (the amount is based on the game you're playing; in
Outbreak and Quarantine, there are three, however, you can use three characters
in Quarantine).

I will not give any strategies (for Infection, as they are too easy), or note
when they appear on the baord. They are chained, so check the Board anytime
when it shows that new messages have been posted. It's chained through the
games so do them ASAP to avoid problems. The only tip I'll give is: use a Speed
Charm and Orchid Dance, or Magic Defence Down items in combination with Wood
Magic.

You will get a rare armor for the first four tag battles, what allows you to
summon a Goblin if you equip the four together. A Key Item is received in the
last, which its only function is to chain the Tag Battles through the four
games. This prize list is continued throughout all games, so you'll have 16
armors and 4 Key Items at the end. I will list them in the checklists as usual:
only showing the area. You'll recognize them by the 'Goblin' in their name,
and the Key Item on the fact it's the only Key Item I'll list.

5.2 Zeit Statue
                        =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=

Zeit Statue is a quest that is introduced in the beginning on the BBS: be the
fastest to get to the Gott Statue in certain areas! What are these areas? Any
Delta server area that starts with Chronicling (for that reason, Chronicling
has no keyword effects if you choose it).

The challenge itself is pretty hard: you will have to beat the 2:11 from
Balmung to gain all Time Equipment, which is your reward.
The system goes like this:
- Beat 5th place: 1 item.
- Beat 4rd place: 2 items.
- Beat 3rd place: 3 items.
- Beat 2nd place: 4 items.
- Beat 1st place: all items.
Once you clear one place, you can only get new items if you beat a higher
place, i.e, the acquired equipment cannot be gotten again, or you cannot gain
two pieces by beating the 5th place twice, for example.

What's your strategy?
- Use the most used area for this challenge (which disappears in Mutation so
practical they are convertious items): D: Chronicling Pagan Sunny Demon.
- Pagan will only appear in the list halfway through the game, so you can't get
  them immediately.
- Use Ap Do/Speed Charm. The chances you have Ap Do before completing Zeit are
pretty slim, so use a Speed Charm.
- Use Fairy Orbs on each B to avoid battles. One battle is fixed, which means:
- Overlevel quite some for this area. You are supposed to be able to beat the
only required battle of the dungeon with one skill.
- Run, run, run and win. The usual time when winning is 1:30, which is 2/3 of
  Balmung's. HA!

In the Checklist I'll just mention their names and D: Chronicling Pagan Sunny
Demon, so notice by the 'Time' mark that they are Zeit equipment. The Time
Sandals is, at least until Outbreak, probably the best leg armour for Kite/you
to use (Ap Do, and increased stats at almost every mark).

5.3 Optional character quest
                        =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=

This is another recurring event through all the games.

Sometimes, a mail will be sent by either a story or optional character to go
to a certain area, which is stated in the mail. In most cases, if nothing else
is mentioned in them (here this line stops for Gardenia XD) what is related to
Phases, Aura or any 'suspious' area, it will MOSTLY be an optional quest. These
quests can sometimes be obtained through in-game scenes, but that is mostly
related to story.

NOTE: certain board users provided me the knowledge that you need Affection to
acquire these events. Now don't worry, I don't care no **** where these areas
are in your Word List (that's not even worth checking and I wouldn't remember),
but you might want to keep it up to date anyway. END NOTE.

Obviously, these quests have the optional (OP) mark in their area
specification. Most of the quests fixes them to get to the Gott Statue
(sometimes by a detour), after which you'll gain either a rare item from
there, or from the character who asked you; or you'll even get their
memberaddress.

This doesn't always have to be like this though. In rare occasions, no rare
item comes around, or you have to trade the item you just got from the Gott
Statue (Sanjuro/Natsume memberaddresses). These are all NOT mentioned apart in
the Checklist. As long as you follow what you need to do, there's no way you'll
be missing these items.

5.4 Random Secrets
                        =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=

This is once again a recurring event through all the games.

Any area with the random mark (0/0, besides Zeit), can be accessed at the start
of the game to acquire the Rare Items. Take note that 2 of the 3 areas have 2
equipment in their Dungeon, not 1 (the single one is a treasure, BTW).

The keywords to these areas have been found mostly in the unsubtitled version
of the added .hack//Liminality anime. Certain of these kind of areas will show
up again in the next games, and it's only suggesting that every area has been
found in these 4-5 years.

I will only mention the acquired item, and its specific area. Recognize them by
the 0/0 mark, without any 'Time' in the equipment's name. It's to be adviced to
check the list on more of the same area; just so you don't miss something the
first time through.

5.5 NPC Fixed amounts
                        =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=

In-and-outs you've already had about this, so I won't avoid the subject: there
is only one thing I'll list here, the amounts you need of all items. This will
return in any FAQ.

Well Water 90
Pure Water 90
Burning Oil 90
Holy Sap 90
Sports Drink 90

5.6 Chainmail answer tree
                        =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=

So, here it is, as provided at the version change. I've checked the emailchains
myself, and here's the result. As you might notice, this is not different from
the Email FAQ, so I have to praise the creator: no mistakes, and that's good
news for the Perfect Game.

Some general notifications that might help you recognize how the emailchains
work:
- There are possible answers after which one email is skipped without knowing.
These have the specific note behind them.
- Anything designated with 'RE:', is a direct reply on your previous mail. For
reference, compare BR's/Mistral's first, second and third mail and answers.
You can see that the answer that skips an email, has the exact same answer
(regarding subject) at the second mail.
- Obviously, a mail without a 'RE:' is mostly received through both answers.
See Piros' first and second mail and answers.

This section, and in next games as well, will NOT list any mails that cannot
generate a reply. The BR mail in beginning is one, for example. The only thing
it can have as effect is the adding of affection, and one can only check that
if s/he were to hack the game codes, and obviously, that goes a bit too far.
Also, I don't even have the chance to check it myself, as I usually max
affection very quick.

One 'stand-alone' mail is an exception, which is in Outbreak. Check that FAQ
for more info.

NOTE: this list is, from up to down, in character order. Take note that the
emails themselfs will be stockpiled down to up. Don't get confused.

This is it folks. Another FAQ finished. I hope you need it, and more important,
use it. The Mutation/Outbreak/Quarantine FAQs are probably following soon!

- I thank CyberConnect2 (CC Corp, obviously ;D) for creating this game.

- I thank Bandai for publishing this game in the US and Japan.

- But I thank Atari even more for publishing this game in Europe.

- And GF, once again, for providing the world's largest FAQ dump.

If there are any questions, improvements, additional info or info I forgot, get
