Note: There is no strum button. Buttons are activated as the corresponding button is pushed. *************************** **** 2. TECHNIQUES **** *************************** =========================== ======Basic Techniques===== =========================== -High notes do not require the release of the lower notes. This means you can keep the green fret held down and you can hit any other colored fret as long as it is not a chord or two frets at the same time. Two frets at the same time require only those frets. This becomes useful when you need to constantly go from one note back to another. Example: G Y G Y G Y You can hold the green button down at all times and simply be tapping the yellow fret when it comes up. This saves effort from your fingers. -------- -Fast notes that are unable to use the hammer-on/pull-off technique become tiring on your thumb if you are always pushing the strum bar down. Learn to use the strum bar alternating between hitting the string up and down. For faster notes it will be almost required. Example: G G G G G G It seems simple enough but when the notes are 16th notes, it becomes quite a different story. When this comes up constantly through a song, for example Bark at the Moon on Hard difficulty it is good to be comfortable with this technique. =========================== ======Using The Pinky====== =========================== -Using your pinky seems difficult at first but once you become aware of where the blue button is positioned it will be easier to press the more it is used. It isn't always neccissary to reach for the blue button if you feel comfortable shifting your hand one fret but on later difficulties it becomes easier if you just used 4 fingers instead of the 3. Example: G R Y B Y B Y R G When you see alot more activity on 3 frets than you do on another button it is wise to shift your hand to make hitting faster notes easier because the pinky can not always keep up with your 3 main fingers. Example: R Y B R Y B R Y B Becoming accustomed to shifting your hand can cause problems. If you see you are shifting your hand too much when chords come with 2 frets of space or consistant notes from the end fret to the first you might have quite a bit of trouble and a tired wrist. Example 1: GB GB RO RO Example 2: Y B O Y G O O G R G =========================== =========Shifting========== =========================== -Shifting your hand is something that comes with experience with the guitar. They will slowly lead you into shifting and when you should shift. For me personally hitting the red and blue fret using the pinky is quite a bit of trouble. Shifting your hand may be in order or when you are doing chords across the neck. Example: GY RB YO It would come as natural just to shift your hand over a fret, and do it again. It takes time to realize where your fingers are at times. The plastic line on the yellow fret helped me briefly to know where my fingers are at without having to look away from my television. Over shifting can do that to you when first learning on hard with all 5 frets. It is wise to have your pinky there to see where you are. If there isn't a button on your pinky then you have an idea where you are on the neck. =========================== =========Reaching========== =========================== - Reaching on the pointer finger is something to use in a song that is mainly focused without the Green fret and it is thrown in every once in a while on a particular guitar part. Shifting your hands may just help lose where your finger positions are already placed to take on the next set of notes. Reach your pointer over from the Red fret you are on to the Green. Example: O Y O B B R Y B G B O Becoming comfortable with this can help you land chords two frets apart without moving your pinky. =========================== ==========Sliding========== =========================== -The sliding of fingers over frets is often used when it is fast paced going down all the frets and back again or in a situation that you know you will end up shifting anyway. This can be used with either the pinky or pointer finger. Example 1: G R Y B O B Y R G Example 2: G R RB =========================== =========Skipping========== =========================== -If you are having trouble passing a song because you are not used to using your pinky as much or shifting in a particular song can be hurting you more than it is helping, skip the note. One some of the harder levels I found attempting to reach out for the note resulted in missing the note and then having trouble getting back to the rest of the song. If it isn't for score purposes, this can help you pass a song. Messing up on the note seems to be more hurtful to your meter than if you were to just miss it all together. Or maybe it just seems that way because it makes it harder to get on track with the rest of the notes in the song. =========================== ====Hammer-on/Pull-off===== =========================== There is an in game tutorial that can help you with this if you are having trouble replay it again and then play earlier songs to get the hang of it or at least the idea. Notes without the black ring around it can be used to preform either the hammer-on or pull-off. Notes with the black rings you need to hit with the strum and proper fingerings no matter what. If you didn't already know, you can hold lower notes when going to hit higher notes as long as it isn't a chord. That meaning, you can technically hold the green fret for the entire song if you wished because the green fret is the lowest. Taking that idea forms the Hammer-on and Pull-off. Example: G R Y Green will have the black ring which you will have to strum. For the Red fret you will have to hold down the Green and then let your finger down on the red as soon as it comes up. For the Yellow Fret you only have to hold on the previous Fret or in this case the Red Fret. Then place your finger down on the yellow at the time it comes up. -------- Pull-off are the same idea except you are pretty much doing it backwards. I seem to think of these as a bit more complicated because you need to get ahead of yourself by watching what notes are coming up and being ready with your fingers in position or at least be prepared. Example: B Y R You will need to have the Yellow Fret held and you can use the Red as well if you want but it is not necissary to hold them all down at once as the tutorial shows. The same goes for Hammer-ons. Strum for the Blue Fret. Release your finger from the Blue when the Yellow note comes up. Release your finger from the Yellow when the Red note comes up. Both techniques can be used with sliding your fingers which is often the case when you are doing some insane solo on expert. You just need to be aware that you need to hit them on the exact time so it is wise to hit every other note with a strum sometimes in case you miss one setting all the rest off because you need to get in another strum to start it again. Any of the hammer on notes can be strummed if you miss the hammer-on/pull-off opportunity. *************************** **** 3. Blues legend B.B. King and session ace Larry "Mr. 335" Carlton represent its versatility. GIBSON EXPLORER $600 The angular lines of the 1958 Explorer pushed the envelope of guitar design to the breaking point. Innovative guitarists such as Johnny Winter use the Firebird to make both a visual and musical statement that still defies tradition. GIBSON LES PAUL SPECIAL $600 The original Gibson Les Paul left little room for improvement, but the combination of a double-cutaway body with the original carved-top design has been embraced by guitarists who want the ultimate combination of tradition and preformance. GIBSON CORVUS $700 The Corvus series ran from 1982-1984 and consisted of 3 versions. The guitar was also referred to as the "can opener" guitar. GIBSON MODERNE $700 The Moderne was first blueprinted in 1958 and was part of a trio of "modernistic" models. Interestingly, Gibson's shipping and production records show that none have ever been made though the records do describe some "futuristic models" being shipped. GIBSON EDS-1275 $850 Gibson's doubleneck guitars made it possible to switch from 6-string to 12-string and back instantaneously. FAQ **** *************************** Q-Can I play this game if I am left handed? A-Yes, you can go to the options screen to flip the guitar around to use your right hand on the fret buttons and your left to strum. Go to Options, and make sure there is an "X" on the Lefty Flip option. The whammy bar and strap are still designed for the right handed guitar player so it can be uncomfortable. -------- Q-How come I do not recieve money or have access to the unlock shop? A-The Easy difficulty does not have the unlock shop, cash rewards or the last venue of songs. Go to medium difficulty to gain money and have the unlock shop. -------- Q-Can I play all songs on the easy difficulty? A- Yes, once you unlock the songs through career you will unlock it on quickplay mode where you can choose the difficulty on the songs that once did not have an easy difficulty. -------- Q-Where can I get another guitar for this game without purchasing it over? A-Red Octane is selling guitars seperately for $40. You can also buy the bundle containing 2 guitars and can probably save on shipping if you are getting the game off their website. http://www.redoctane.com/ Red Octane now also offers a Cherry SG. -------- Q-Is it true that the songs aren't by the real artists? A-Correct. They couldn't get Jimi Hendrix to come and preform his guitar solo. The cost that it would be to actually get the artists to preform would be completely unaffordable. That plus some of the artists are no longer living. In the unlockable video you can see various musicians recording at WaveGroup Sound. Just to add, all bonus songs are preformed by their actual artists. -------- Q-Why isn't [insert legendary metal band] in this game? A-Harmonix tried their best to get all the bands they could from the early list they made up. Some bands simply asked for an unreasonable amount of money that was not in the game's budget. Hopefully, if there is a sequal, the bands will see the focus of the game and agree to giving permission to using the song. -------- Q-Will playing this game help me at playing a real guitar? A-In short, no. You can really learn the basic principles of playing a guitar and pick up on techniques used in guitar playing thatmay make it easier for you to pick up than if you hadn't played Guitar Hero. You undertand the function of frets and the shifting to create higher and lower notes. Alternative strumming might be easier to pick up and the helping of finger movement. Besides that, you are not learning much besides the conecept of hammer ons and pull offs. Actual guitars have more than 1 string and 5 frets. With that, you are concentrated on both the frets and strings. Actual guitars arelarger than the plastic replica that comes with the game. Playing a real guitar is much more difficult than playing this game. But if the game were to make it too realistic it might not be fun for players. -------- Q-Is the guitar compatable with Guitar Freaks? A-Technically yes. Using the "Type C Configuration" in Guitar Freaks sets it so you use the Red Fret, Yellow Fret, and Orange Fret. That meaning that there is a button gap if you were to use it with Guitar Freaks. Enless you opened it up and did some re-wiring then it may be too uncomfortable to play. It may be better than using a regular PS2 controller through. -------- Q-When is Guitar Hero 2 coming? A-No information about a sequel has come officially from Harmonix. They have already established that if there were another Guitar Hero, it would not be an expansion disk but rather an entire game that can play on its own without the necessity of owning the first much like the Karaoke Revolution series. *************************** **** 10.
