OK, hello everyone, and welcome to my Secrets/Skill System FAQ for Front
Mission 5. I made this little guide to provide you people with some secrets
that I found in this awesome PS2 game and to basically provide you with some
tips that I know of and you didn't (if you really didn't). I also included
the skill explanation in this guide to provide with some useful info about
                                pilots skills.
                            Anyway, happy reading!

[1.1] New Game +

This option will be available after you beat the game once. It allows you to
go through the game again with the saved from a previous playthrough RP and
CP bonuses, Wanzers, spare parts, weapons (EP 50). You'll also meet new
pilots. Some new kinds of parts will be available, and lists of pilots'
skills will be expanded. However, to get more and more bonuses, the game has
to be beaten more than once.

[1.2] Hard Mode

This option is also available after one complete playthrough. Hard mode makes
the game even more challenging, making it even more interesting. There are no
bonuses from the previous playthrough: primary Wanzers, no skills. The level
of the enemy is much more higher than your own, the enemy executes team
actions much more quicker, the number of RP and CP earned is less than usual.
However, the number of survival mode levels is increased to 100, while there
are no restrictions on the Wanzer customising, making it possible to upgrade
then to level 12.

[1.3] How to get Darril Traubel

You can recruit Darril Traubel, the main character of Front Mission 4. Here's
howto do it. Firstly, you have to complete all the missions with the highest
rank. Secondly, upon completion of the mission 3, go to "mess hall", and talk
with Brenda three times and once with Darril. When the cutscene ends, go back,
talk to Calvin, then talk to Darril until he leaves. Having successfully
finished omission 4, firstly go to the "briefing room", then to the "mess
hall" and talk with Brenda. Then, talk to Darriland this time be sure to pick
the second option. Ending the mission 5, go to "simulator" and talk to Darril
again. Pick the first option. And finally, after completing mission 11, go to
"simulator" and conversate with Darril. Pick the second option. Congrats,
Darril Traubel is now available for recruitment.

[1.4] Special Wanzers

1. At the end of the mission 6, go to "lounge" and talk with Brenda (she sits
at the computer place) and then talk with Noah, who is standing nearby. Exit
the room and enter it again, and this time talk with William. Exit again, and
go to "commander's room", in there talk with William (he's hiding under the
table to the right). He'll award you with a Grapple Wanzer parts.
2. In order to acquire Schneider, you need to recruit Darril. Once this
character is in your team, Schneider will appear in the hangar.
3. Complete the mission 11. After returning to base immediately go for "mess
room" and talk with Laura three times (she is at the table). Then talk to
Ralph, Tony and Julius. Now, go to the meeting room, but proceeding with the
next mission, go back to "mess room" and once again talk to Laura. Now, War
Wrath is available in the hangar.
4. When the mission number 18 is completed, explore the base a little and you
will get to the "control tower" eventually. Talk with Hector once, then with
Joseph, pick the second choice. Talk to Steve and Shiyokaru Wanzer will appear
in the hangar.
5. Vyzov Wanzer can be obtained after completing mission 23. To get it, you
must do the following: first things first, finish mission 20, then be sure to
visit the "operations room" and talk first with the man to the right, and then
with Inos, otherwise you won't be able to obtain the Wanzer. When talking to
Inos, pick the first choice. Continue the conversation with this fellow, and
after that talk with Gerrard (he's on the right too), he'll give you 6 RP.
Next, go to "gym" and be sure to talk to everyone who is there. Now go to
"junior officer's room" and talk with Max, Dennis, Roland and Inos to death.
Now, upon finishing mission 23 (necessarily with the highest rank), go to
"operations room" and talk with Inos. You'll receive a Vyzov Wanzer parts as
your reward.

[1.5] Getting all the Battle Simulator missions

Before departing to Alaska, talk to Dennis in your bedroom and to Donald in
"commander's room". Then talk to Joshua, Justin and Jill in the "lounge".
Recruit Joshua and Justin. Complete mission 24, and then, when you're already
in Alaska, go to "control room". After the cutscene, talk with Laila and
Muriel, then with Emma. While talking with Emma, pick the second choice, and
she'll go to the "mess hall". Talk to Laila and Muriel again, then recruit
them. Go to "mess hall" and talk to Emma many times. Now, back to the "control
room", talk to Laila and Muriel again. Then chat with Hector. There should be
a little cutscene. Again talk with Laila and Muriel, then go to "pilot's ready
room". There should be a big crowd now. Add Laila, Muriel, Joshua and Justin
to your current team. If everything was done correctly, after the conversation
with Hector the imitator will be available and you'll get 2 RP. If you still
have no access, try to recruit more "S" pilots. And make sure that Laila and
Muriel are in your unit when you're talking to Hector.
There's also another way to get your hands on the last imitator. Recruit all
the Barguest pilots (these guys almost always are "S"). Repeat everything I
mentioned above, but make sure that all your team members wear dark-blue
uniform with purple symbols.

The codes that I'm going to tell you about next are decreasing the level of a
certain part of your Wanzer to 1. You'll need that if you want to change the
upgrade of a certain part or weapon. To make this thing work, go to hangar
and install the Wanzer part or weapon, which you want to delevel to the 1
Wanzer (Walter), exit the hangar, return, and you'll see that it's already
at level 1. Now you can upgrade in any way you like. After you're done with
upgrading, swap this modified part for other part (which you don't need).
That's it. Voila, now you have the upgraded Wanzer part. You must save now
and restart the game (if you don't want your Wanzer to be at level 1 forever).

[1.7] Skill System

When participating in battles, pilot gains a certain increase in his skills of
a certain profession, and therefore, he gains a certain amount of EP points.
You spend these earned EP points on learning various new skills. For every
gained level a pilot receives only 1 EP, so you should use your EP points
wisely and considerately. Each skill needs 1 or 2 EP, depending on its
effectiveness. To actually "install" the learned skill, you also need EP. You
also get this EP by leveling up. So, to make the long story short, I should
say that the bigger level the pilot has, the more points he'll get, therefore
the more skills he'll be able to use.

The skill system in Front Mission 5 is slightly different from the skill
systems in all other games of this series. Here, regular pilots are studying
the basic set of skills in every profession, but only professional pilots are
able to learn something really special. Moreover, specialist pilots can reach
level 10 in their profession, while regular ones cannot. "S"-ranked pilots are
able to learn personal and unique skills. It is also noteworthy that when you
start a NEW GAME+ (which becomes available after one playthrough), the list of
skills increases.
