==SECTION 1: HISTORY OF THE ROAD WARRIORS==
===========================================
Hailing from that mecca of professional wrestling, Minneapolis, the Road
Warriors -- Hawk and Animal -- turned the wrestling industry on its ear
in the mid-to-late 80's with their punishing arsenal of power moves and
dominating ring presence. They will go down in history as the only tag
team to hold the AWA, NWA and WWF tag team belts.

From their earliest days in Verne Gagne's AWA, Hawk (Mike Hegstrand) and
Animal (Joe Laurinaitus) knew they had to come up with something exciting
and unique to make themselves stand out from the rest of the tag teams in
the territory. And so, borrowing their gimmick from the classic Mel Gibson
flick "The Road Warrior", the pair began donning outlandish make-up and
shaving their heads into mohawk hair designs (the concept was that if one
had a mohawk and the other a reverse mohawk, they could put their heads
together and "plug in" to one another... go figure).

Garish outfits aside, the Road Warriors began to garner a nasty reputation
for destroying any and all comers in the ring, and thus their popularity
began to skyrocket. By the time they reached Jim Crockett's NWA promotion,
they were riding an undeniable wave of tag team success.

Later in their careers, the Road Warriors found themselves working for
the World Wrestling Federation, where it can be argued that they never
managed to recapture the success they enjoyed in their stints with
previous promotions. Their "on-again off-again" relationship with the WWF
(later WWE) continued for throughout the latter part of the 90's and into
the new millennium.

Sadly, Mike Hegstrand passed away in 2003. But through the modern marvel
of video, the Road Warriors' legacy of ring domination manages to live on.

STATISTICAL COMPARISON: In terms of Skill the Road Warriors are nearly
identical, save that Hawk has Strong Spirit when bleeding compared to
Animal's Medium. The Offense/Defense Parameters tell a different story,
but the difference in point value in various categories between the two
wrestlers is never more than one. All in all, the Road Warriors are an
extremely well-balanced powerhouse of a tag team.

==SECTION 4: STRATEGY==
=======================

GENERAL STRATEGY
Perhaps more than any other tag team, the Road Warriors represent power
personified in Fire Pro Returns. Their arsenal of moves suit their skills
to a "T", and their "Warrior" skill gives them a decided advantage at the
beginning (increased offensive output) and the end (no-selling) of the
match. Remember that with the "Warrior" skill (which is a combination of
"Quick Return" and "Start Dash") it's to your advantage to not get hurt
early in the match, as your offensive output is increased until your
health falls below 70%.

Taking a look at their movesets, we can see that the Road Warriors'
offensive techniques are rather basic; simple punches and kicks, basic
powerslams, headbutts, etc. There's nothing fancy here, save for the fact
that Hawk is inexplicably given planchas and other diving attacks that
have no place in his arsenal.

Hawk and Animal are both defensive monsters and can absorb a ton of
punishment before throwing in the towel. If they have an Achilles' Heel
it's in the "Joint" category, so don't let them get caught in too many
holds that focus on those areas. Even so, their High defense in all body
stats means they're not going to tap easily.

Much like the Road Warriors in their prime, your focus should be on total
domination; stay on the offensive and never let up. If you win most of
your grapples and connect with a fair number of strikes, victory should
always be within your grasp.

STRIKES
Punch. Kick. Lariat. Lather. Rinse. Repeat. The Road Warriors' strikes are
both simple and effective... you don't need anything other than the very
basics to succeed.

Although Hawk and Animal both have respectable (if unremarkable) striking
skills, it's better to focus on the power-based moves in their grapple
movesets, this is where their true power lies. Nonetheless, it's never a
bad idea to pick up a downed opponent so that they are standing dazed,
then nail 'em with a stiff Lariat or Football Tackle.

GRAPPLES
Again, nothing too fancy here, then again it doesn't need to be. Most of
these attacks play perfectly to the Road Warriors' power-based skills;
powerbombs and backbreakers galore. It should be noted that Animal's
Finisher is FPR is a Run Counter Powerslam, so you're going to have to set
that up from an Irish Whip in order to succeed. Still, it's probably going
to be easier to land than the Doomsday Device, unless you happen to have a
second player tagging with you (see below).

THE DOOMSDAY DEVICE!
Setting an opponent up for the Doomsday Device can be tricky, especially
if your tag partner happens to be the CPU. Of the twenty or so times I
hoisted the opponent on my shoulders, only once did my CPU partner bother
to climb the post and finish the move. Frustrating to say the least.

You obviously have to initiate the setup while you're near your own
corner, here's the easiest way I think of:

   1) Make sure your opponent is downed near your corner.

   2) Lift him up so that he is in the "Standing Dazed" position,
      then go for a Back Grapple.

   3) Hit R1 + Up at the Back Grapple to hoist the opponent onto
      your shoulders.

From there, it's up to the CPU Logic to see the situation and capitalize,
which as I said earlier, doesn't always work. And just in case you're
curious, EITHER Road Warrior can perform the setup for the Doomsday Device
(actually all wrestlers have the setup in their arsenal), but Hawk is the
one with the Diving Lariat finisher.

Here are some further comments about the Doomsday Device in Fire Pro R,
compliments of the Senator:

*** "CPU Hawk, if I remember right, can NOT do the proper Doomsday Device,
*** but instead just goes for the axe handle, and will do so, unless you
*** re-edit him and switch the lariat and axehandle's positions in the top
*** rope area. Seeing that you questioned some other parts of his moveset
*** (the planchas and such), he'd likely be a good re-edit candidate
*** anyway, even if the regular version is satsifactory otherwise."

I'll finish this section by saying that I completely agree with Senator's
suggestion. If you're a complete Road Warriors fanatic (you know who you
are) and want a proper Doomsday Device, it's worth an edit save slot to
make your Road Warriors extra-perfect. And get rid of those silly planchas
while you're at it.

==SECTION 5: CLOSING==

In closing, I would like to thank Jason Blackhart for statistical
information and Dave Fairbairn for moveset clarification.

Special thanks to MadMaxx1974 for... well, being who he is.
