I. Introduction
-----------------

Fatal Frame has long been my favorite series in the survival horror genre.
This new installment though further blurs the line between reality and the
'other world' as this game tends to refer to it.

I will warn you ahead of time; this guide will contain MAJOR SPOILERS for the
endings of Fatal Frame and Fatal Frame II: Crimson Butterfly.

This FAQ is copyright 2005 Danyal Vierheller (siara79). If you feel the need
to post this on a website, it shouldnt be a problem as long as you notify me
and give proper credit. If you dont do that, Ill be severely annoyed. If
you have any questions you can contact me at [email protected]. All
characters and situations are copyright 2005 Tecmo.

II. Story

Rei Kurosawa has been having some weird dreams lately. Ever since she visited
that abandoned house and saw the ghost of her dead fiance Yuu Asou, she has
been dreaming of a strange manor .. a manor inhabited by Yuu.. and a
strange woman with tattoos all over her body. During her explorations of the

where the woman touched her as a blue-and-purple tattoo begins to spread
over her skin..

A) Hour I: The Sign
    Character: Rei Kurosawa

[OPENING SEQUENCES]

NOTE: Any pictures taken with your regular camera only count as point
bonuses.

After the opening cutscenes, the screen goes black and white. Walk through
the courtyard and through the double doors. Snap a picture through the
partition of Turned Back Man (500 pts). Walk around the left side and
you'll see Beckoning Yuu (500 pts) going down the hall. Don't bother going
up the stairs; at this time there is nothing up there but a random encounter
with a nasty ghost, so just follow Yuu down the hall.

Wandering Mother & Wandering Daughter will appear in the room on your left as
you walk by. They are worth 2000 points apiece or 4000 points altogether, but
they are difficult to get. (I know of two methods to capture them. The first
one is going into finder mode then inching past the 'door' while facing the
room. When the ghosts appear, immediately step back to the left and snap the
picture. The second method is to face forward but quickly tap the analog
stick so Rei backsteps without turning around, and snap the picture that way.)

Follow the corridor around and keep a watch for Lattice Woman (500 pts)
through the lattice on the left side of the screen. Continuing on will win
you a meeting with a big ghost with an even bigger bloody cleaver known as
the Hidden Face Man. Do not try to fight him.

Keep running down the corridor until you see the exit. (If for some reason he
manages to kill you, it's not permanent. You will just appear in the next
area.) Yuu will enter a door on the other side of the area, so walk to the
left and follow him. As you pass the left corridor Girl In Hallway (500 pts)
pops up and asks Rei to 'Stay.. forever'. If you turn back around and go past
the right corridor, another Girl in Hallway will appear for another 500
points.

Continue to the double door that Yuu went through, then open it. Cross the
Shrine Courtyard and snap a picture of Disappearing Yuu (500 pts) as he
goes through the door. Try to follow Yuu through that last door. That will
trigger a cutscene..

You will start out in a small corridor. To the left is a locked gate
requiring a Notched Arrow key to open. Walk down the hall. The last chest on
the right contains an Herbal Medicine. Go up the left side first to enter the
Partitioned Room. Be prepared as Study Woman (2000 pts) walks past the window
on the right as you enter. She is easier to capture after you get the sense
function upon beating the game. The best method I've found to catch her is
to walk into the room but don't go too far in - inch along the wall to the
left, face the window, and sidestep until she appears. Then very quickly
snap her picture. (The Sense function makes it easier as it aims the camera
right at her.)

You can pick up the Memo in Shaky Hand a few sections up, but
as the other exit is sealed, exit the Partitioned Room again and take the
other hallway.

As you turn the corner in the right corridor Daughter at Door (500 pts) will
appear in front of the door. Snap her picture and enter the 1F Hearth. Climb
the short staircase onto the hearth platform and turn to the left for a
picture of the Wandering Mother & Daughter (1000 pts). They only appear for
an instant, so you have to be quick.

The door at the top of the ladder is locked with the Bellflower Key, and the
northern ground-level door is shut tight, so the only way to go is up the
stairs. Be prepared to grab a picture of the 2nd Floor Woman (500 pts) as
she walks by the top of the staircase. When you reach the top you'll
automatically acquire the Camera Obscura, your weapon against the ghosts. Go
through the door on the other side of the room and walk around until you see
the peephole in the wall. Peek through and grab the shot of Impaling Girl
(500 pts). Someone will start crying afterwards - return to the lattice and
take the picture of Crouching Woman (1000 pts). She will see you and will run
away.

When you go to exit the room Lattice Woman (1000 pts) will appear on the other
side of the lattice across from the entrance. Take her picture then return to
the 1F Hearth. Halfway down the stairs the Wandering Mother & Child (1000
pts) will appear again for a moment at the bottom of the stairs. Try to leave
the Hearth room and they will attack you.

They move fairly quickly but if you drain one's health the other will
disappear as well. Exit the room and start following the corridor back to
where you started. As you turn the corner, your filament will glow red and
there will be a pair of legs visible. Snap the picture of the Crouching
Woman (2000 pts) and approach for a cutscene ending with Rei's awakening.

Leave Rei's room and start downstairs. Miku calls out a cheery 'good morning'
from downstairs, so go down and speak with her. Miku will give you a letter
from Kei Amakura regarding a Camera Obscura he apparently mailed to Yuu before
his death. After reading the letter, Rei decides to look for the camera, so
return upstairs to Yuu's room. It is the door furthest back the hallway.

Upon entering, a short scene will trigger. Once you are back in control,
inspect the shelf next to the foot of the bed to retrieve Yuu's Camera Obscura
and some undeveloped film. Next check the desk for Yuu's Urban Legend
Notebook & the accompanying newspaper scrap describing the disappearance of a
mother and daughter.

After picking up the Notebook, you can check the bookshelf next to the desk
for a text on Occultism/the Camera Obscura. Once you've collected these items
return to the lower level and go to the Darkroom. Approach the rear of the
room and develop the film to receive the 'Crying Woman' photo. Show the photo
to Miku and Rei will automatically ask her to research the woman in the photo.

You will then return to Rei's room at nighttime. Go ahead and go to sleep and
for the second time you will return to the Manor of Sleep.

[NIGHT]

You'll start out in the same hallway as before. If you've already taken the
Herbal Medicine out of the chest, it won't be there again. As you approach
the end of the hall, Escaping Woman (1000 pts) runs by, and you have just a
moment to snap the photo. Do not follow her immediately but instead return
to the Hearth Room. Collect the Herbal Medicine from under the stairs then
climb them. Partway up the stairs, Daughter Downstairs (500 pts) appears
underneath you. Take her picture then exit and return to the Partitioned
Room.

If you didn't already, go through the partitioned room until you find the
Memo in Shaky Hand and continue to the right. Check the floor by the ladder
to the left for a roll of Type-14 film, then continue right until you reach
the door to the 1F Stairs Hallway. As soon as you approach the stairs the
woman you've been chasing will appear at the top of them; again, you must be
fast to catch her. There is a save lantern to the left of the entry door.
Take advantage of it then go up the stairs.

Walk to the right to see a door blocked by a presence. Snap the picture to
show you underneath a set of stairs. Walk left past the first set of stairs
and take the second set down. At the foot of the stairs is the Alarm function
for your camera, which makes it easier to identify a shutter moment and thus
score a fatal frame/combo. Continue around to the right until you see a
bloody patch on the floor and wall. Look for the area where your filament
glows the brightest and point your camera at it until a ghost becomes visible.
Take the picture of the Man Stopped Dead to release the seal on the upstairs
door. You can also inspect the short door on the right wall to get an
additional note for your file; however, the door is locked with a Four Point
Well Key symbol, and inaccessible for now.

When you return to the second floor, take the stairs leading up one floor.
There is a door you cannot open at this time but right across from that door
is a small box containing some Type-61 film.

Return to the newly unsealed door and go through into the Room with Blind.
Walk around and enter the Elegant Tatami room you could see through the screen
when you entered. Crouching Woman (500 pts) is on the floor, seemingly
oblivious to your presence. Take her photo then enter the screen next to her.
Collect the Type-61 Film from the drawer in the back of the screened-off area,
then approach the Crouching Woman and try to talk to her. She'll ignore you,
so just pick up the Burnt Passport at her feet and try to leave. The woman
will beg Rei to wake her up, then Rei will awaken once again in the real
world.

Walk downstairs to find a note from Miku on the kitchen counter, then as you
try to leave the living room, the phone will ring. It's Miku, with news about
the woman in the photo - she has been identified as Yoshino Takigama, the only
survivor of a plane crash. There will be another cutscene, then once again
it's time to get some sleep. You can talk to Miku before you go to sleep and
she will comment that the woman just 'disappeared'.

[NIGHT]

...and back to the Manor we go...

To get some extra points as well as some additions to your Ghost List, return
to the 2nd Floor Corridor (the door up the stairs from 1F Hearth) and look
through the lattice where you originally saw the Crouching Woman. There are
now three black shadows surrounding the woman. If you do it right you should
be able to get three pictures of the Encircling Shadow & the Tormented Woman
(500 pts each; 1500 pts total).

Go to the left again. There is another Film-14 next to the ladder in the
Partitioned Room. When you climb the stairs you'll see three black Bending
Shadows (500 pts ea; get all three in one shot for 1500 pts) going through the
door you unsealed on the previous night.

Follow them. When you get to the Room with Blind, the shadows will attack
Yoshino. Dispatch them, and once they are gone Yoshino will attack you! I
found if you can pull off a combo shot or two she'll go down fairly easily.
Watch out though because the black shadows will continue to respawn as long
as Yoshino is attacking. As soon as you defeat her, Rei will once again wake.

When she goes downstairs, Miku will hand her Yoshino's diary, and then it's
nighttime again. Go ahead and go to sleep.

B) Hour II: The Manor of Sleep
    Character: Rei Kurosawa

[NIGHT]

This time Rei wakes up in the Room with Blind, where she fought Yoshino.
Where Yoshino had been crouching a Four Point Well Key now rests. Collect it
then try to leave the room. Yoshino will attack you again. This time she
respawns the black shadows, so the best tactic is to hit her as often and as
fast as you can. Don't stay still for too long but focus on her and she
should go down quickly.

As you're leaving you'll hear voices behind you - inspect the screen then
exit the room. Backtrack towards the stairs and you will see a man going
down the stairs. (I'm not certain if he can be caught on film.) Then as you
approach the staircase to the 3F Storeroom, the Man Upstairs (500 pts) will
appear at the top.

Return to the second staircase leading down and unlock the small door next to
where Man Stopped Dead was. This leads to the Stained Corridor. Turn right
and aim the camera at the blue glowing spot on the wall (alternately, the
hand sticking out of the wall within the glowing spot, as long as the capture
circle turns blue). The resulting picture will have to be developed in the
real world. Continue around the corridor and enter the short door for an
Herbal Medicine. The passage beyond is too narrow for Rei to squeeze through,
so go back to the Stained Corridor and continue around to the last set of
doors. They lead to the Grave Courtyard.

There is another blue glowing spot off to the right, above the graves. Take
the shot. It is yet another to be developed when you wake. The door on the
other side of the Courtyard is locked with a Two Mandarins Key. Before
leaving the Courtyard, inspect the well by the entrance. Point your camera
at it and be prepared for Lurking Woman (1000 pts) to pop out!

Return through the Stained Corridor. Run through this area because as you
turn the last corner a Man in White will come out of the wall's stain and
attack. If you're running it's likely he'll miss when he lunges out of the
wall; if you're walking he'll almost certainly grab you. There are two of
them so just be careful not to let them get behind you and watch your filament
for their direction at all times.

Once the Men in White are vanquished, they will leave behind the Sleeping
Stone. This is the part of the puzzle needed to open the door in the 3rd Fl
Storeroom. Exit the Stained Corridor through the short door you originally
entered and climb the stairs. Take the stairway leading up. When you reach
the top of the stairs Escaping Man will appear briefly next to the door.

The puzzle on that door is fairly simple. Move the stone in the bottom right
one space to the left. Move the upper right one down two spaces. Move the
upper left stone down one space and right two spaces. This will unlock the
door and let you on to the roof.

Take a few steps towards the bottom of the screen until your filament appears.
Point the camera to the left and look for the capture circle to turn blue.
Take the shot for the picture of Inverted Woman (1000 pts). Then cross the
roof in the other direction and enter the short door. WARNING: If you linger
too long you will be attacked by a Man In White, and you CANNOT RUN on the
roof!

Inside the room you will find the Two Mandarins Key and the Evade function.
Immediately after you pick them up a Man in White will appear directly behind
you. Defeat him then check the sliding panel propped up at the back of the
room to move it. There is a door of sorts in the floor but it is temporarily
stuck shut.

Cross the roof back to the original door. Yuu will enter the locked door
in the Courtyard - so return there and follow him. When you unlock the door
you will see Yuu and then Rei will wake suddenly.

Collect the Musty Film out of the Camera Obscura and head downstairs. The
phone is ringing. Answer it and Miku tells you that she has obtained some
information for you and you should go get it off her desk. Go develop your
film first; on the way back the screen will turn grainy and there will be a
dark shadow in the Altar Room. You can take the picture for 500 points but
it does not show up on your spirit list.

Go upstairs and collect the information off Miku's desk as well as a photo of
her and Mafayu.

Night falls again, but before going to bed, speak with Miku to have her
research your photos, then it's bedtime again...

C. Hour III: The Subduing Song
    Character: Rei Kurosawa

[NIGHT]

Rei will wake up in the Round Window Foyer and see Yuu walking down the Bell
Hallway. Follow him and as you approach the intersection a Man in White will
attack you from the right side. After you defeat him go to the left and
enter the Projection Room. The "Impalement" film is on the projector, and
when you stop to watch it a girl appears behind you. Grab her pic and pick
up the Folklore Notes 1 and the Track function from the bookshelf in the
corridor to the right of the screen. A Type-14 film is also directly across
from it.

Go through the North door into the Barred Hallway. Watch for the Woman Past
Bars, (500 pts) then there is an Herbal Medicine and a photo op in the alcove
on the left side. The door at the end of the hallway leads to the Garden
Corridor. Take a shot of the blue mass in front of the tree for Girl Walking
Away.

Go down the steps and pick up the Stone Mirror next to them. Climb back up
and go down the east corridor. Walk down the short flight of steps. Both
doors are sealed, but the short door is sealed with a talisman. Snap a pic
of the door to see a Hammering Girl, then backtrack. A Hidden Face Man will
attack as you approach the end of the corridor; dispatch him and take the
south hall to the 1F Closet Hallway. There is a Type-61 film on the shelf by
the Noh mask and the Slow Lens is in the dresser next to the stairs. Climb
the stairs to the 2F Closet Hallway - the 2nd Floor Woman (1000 pts) appears
as a vanishing ghost as you climb the stairs. The door is locked, so turn
around and go back downstairs.

The short door is locked with a Dianthus design, so go back to the Grave
Courtyard via the Bell Hallway. You should hear a child crying; the Hiding
Daughter is behind the graves. Take her picture and return to the Room with
Tatami. Around the right side of the partitioned section there is a picture of
Hand Sucked into Floor (500 pts). There is a Type-61 film in the closet on
the left side of the door (as you enter).

Take the corridor next to the stairs to collect the Type-14 film from the
'room' to your left. Both doors in this corridor are sealed so turn right
back around and climb the stairs. In the chest with the rust-colored cloth
hanging out you will find a Sacred Water. Go back downstairs and walk down
the short stairwell and around the partitioned area. Undo the sliding lock
on the double doors to regain access to the 1F Hearth Room.

In the Hearth Room, collect the Herbal Medicine under the stairs then go
upstairs to find the source of the child's crying. Stand by the chest across
from the door and aim behind the kimonos to find her. Once you take her
picture she will attack you. Defeat her, then go back to the Partitioned Room
to take a picture of the Wandering Mother as a vanishing ghost.

Return to the 2F Stairs Hallway and a ball will drop down the stairs leading
to the 3F Storage Room. Climb the stairs and turn to the left to snap a pic
of the Hiding Daughter. She should leave behind a note.

Then backtrack to the Room with Blind where you fought Yoshino. Approach the
cabinet on the far side of the room and notice that the doll that was on the
floor when you fought her is sitting up on the shelf. Pull out your camera
and point it at the doll, and Woman Crashing will appear.

Return to the Partitioned Room on the first floor and you will be attacked by
the Wandering Mother again. Fight her off and you will receive more musty
film to be developed later. Go back to the 2F Hearth Room and go through the
door to where you saw the Hammering Girls earlier. Take a picture through the
peephole and return to the Room with Tatami. Woman Brushing will attack.

Defeat her and return to the Garden Corridor. The door that was sealed before
is now open. There is a young Shrine Maiden in front of the altar. Take her
picture and collect the Bellflower Key from the altar. The Shrine Maiden will
attack you - once you defeat her, pick up the Gray Diary 1 and Rei will wake.

Speak to Miku then go develop the film. A letter will arrive through the mail
slot, and it contains the cassette The Manor of Sleep A.  Nighttime falls;
before going back to bed talk to Miku, listen to the cassette, then talk to
her again to ask her to research the photos.

Then go to sleep again.

D. Hour IV: The Evil Dream
    Character: Miku Hinasaki

[NIGHT]

Miku starts out in a very familiar place: the foyer of Himuro Mansion. There
is an Herbal Medicine behind the screens by the save point but it can only be
reached from the left side. Enter the doors to the left to access the Rope
Hallway. At the end of the hallway, Miku will automatically stumble across
the Camera Obscura in the same place it was in the original game.

Turn left and enter that door to reach the Great Hall. Search the Great Hall
for a Type-61 film and a door locked with another 'Sleeping Stone' puzzle.
When you try to exit out the door you entered, a Hidden Face Man (aka the
ghost with the big cleaver) will attack.

When he is defeated he drops the Simulacrum Mask and the Sacred Stone Amulet.
Miku cannot use special lenses for the Camera Obscura, so the Sacred Stone
Amulet is her version of the Slow lens. Return to the foyer (and I highly
recommend saving before you move on). Take a picture of the seal on the main
doors to see another very familiar sight, then walk to the right and hang the
Simulacrum Mask on the door there. It will morph into the Angry Mask and the
door will open.

(Note to anyone who has played the original game - No, you're not seeing
things. This game takes TREMENDOUS liberties with the layouts of both Himuro
Mansion and All Gods' Village.. )

The door leads to the Preserve Room (aka the Fish Tank Room in the original)
and yes, there is another annoying battle inside. The Brushing Woman will
attack and since there is VERY little room to move my best suggestion is
to stay out of Finder mode until you're CERTAIN which direction she's coming
from.

Defeat her to earn a Twilight Stone, which, conveniently enough, is part of
the puzzle on the door to the next room..

To complete this puzzle follow these steps.

Move the upper right stone one space to the upper left.
Move the bottom stone to the upper right.
Move the left stone to the bottom.
Move the right stone to the left.
Move the upper left stone to the right.
Move the bottom stone to the upper left.

This should unlock the door and grant you access to the Holding Cell. You can
get a picture of a young girl through the bars of the cell, then enter it to
collect the Crimson Diary off the desk. Exit through the double doors to
access the Rope Palace - the sacrificial altar depicted when you took a
picture of the front door's seal.

A cutscene will occur and Miku will be attacked by a shrine maiden. She has
very long reach, so my suggestion is to stay as far out of her range as you
can but still close enough to pull off a combo. If she catches you she will
string you up for a moment, but in general if you keep moving you should be
able to take her out.

Miku refuses to go any further so turn around and go back the way you came.
If you try to exit Himuro Mansion out the front doors, which are now open, a
shrine maiden appears to the left and beckons Miku, saying 'Your brother is
there'. Follow her back through the door into the Rope Hallway. Take her
picture at the end of the hallway to get Beckoning Girl, then follow her
to the right.

The door is now open; when you go through Miku will finally be in the Manor of
Sleep Room with Tatami. Turn right at the first opportunity and take the
picture of the Beckoning Girl (again), but DON'T follow her immediately.

Turn left instead and go into the Hall with Tatami. The hand is still
sticking out of the narrow passage where it was before; snap its picture for
Hand From Hole (500 pts). The other doors in the room are sealed so go back
down the hallway and follow the girl through the door to the Blind Room.

A large tent covers an area in the center of the room. Upstairs there isn't
much of interest other than a bookcase in the rear of the room that is too
heavy for her to move, so return to floor level. As you pass the stairs
leading down, Girl at Door (500 pts) will appear. Grab her picture and follow
her through the door. There is a young girl in a hanging cage there..

And Miku's first section is complete.

When control returns to Rei, talk to Miku until she gives you Kei's picture
and tells you a letter is on the counter for you. Go downstairs and you will
see a pair of legs in the closet. It's impossible to get this picture because
the legs disappear as soon as you raise your camera, so just pick up the
Letter from Kei 4.

Night falls again, but before you go to bed, search Yuu's desk for the Letter
from Kei 5 and the tapes Manor of Sleep B and The Same Dream 1. Also inspect
the bookcase for 'Projecting the Other World' and 'Skewered Dolls and
Mountain Faiths".

Return to bed.

E. Hour V: Vanishing
    Character: Kei Amakura

[NIGHT]

Kei starts out hiding in the alcove off the Barred Hallway. The Tattooed
Woman is walking by. Wait until she passes by you and run to the right. You
will see Mio to the left at the end of the hallway; follow her to the door
locked with a Butterfly Key.

Turn around and cross the hall to climb the stairs to 2F Barred Hallway.
There is an Herbal Medicine in the closet at the end of the hall. Collect it
then go through the door to the Kimono Room. Pick up the Purple Diary 1 from
behind the screen.

The staircase across from the screen leads to a set of sealed double doors,
THe short door next to the stairs leads to the 2F Round Window Foyer, but
there is nothing to do there yet. A door sealed with another sleeping stone
puzzle is the only thing of interest there.

So walk to the other side of the row of kimonos and try to exit through the
door locked with the Holly Key. The screen will go grainy; walk to the left
of the door and aim through the gap in the kimonos to get Woman Before Koto
(500 pts).

Then try to walk towards the vanity. Brushing Woman will notice you and start
walking back and forth in front of her vanity. Make a run for it and grab
the HOlly Hairpin off the vanity, then run back to the Holly door as quickly
as you can. It's pretty much inevitable that she will see you, so just move
as fast as possible. Unlock the door and step into the 2F Closet Hallway and
she will stop chasing you for the moment. Be careful as you go downstairs
that she doesn't see you across the balcony.

Enter the Bell Hallway through the southern door. All the doors in the
hallway are sealed, so continue south towards the exit to the Grave Courtyard.
A man will appear behind the partition screen to the right. Keep walking
towards the doors and the Tattooed Woman will appear again. Hide behind the
partition the man was behind until Tattooed Woman passes you, then run back
down the Bell Hallway and turn right at the intersection. Go through the door
to Hall with Tatami. When you enter you will see a ghost walking up the
stairs; follow her. She will be standing in front of a chest in the back.
Take the picture of the Secretive Old Woman (1000 pts) and she will attack.

Run past her and check the chest she was standing in front of to acquire the
Camera Obscura and the Folklore Notes 3. Do not even BOTHER to try to fight
her; at this point in the game you can't inflict damage on her, so run back
down the stairs and down the corridor at the foot of the stairs. Collect the
Type-14 film from the section next to the corridor.

The door to the Himuro Mansion section is temporarily sealed, so just take a
picture of the door at the end of the hall. The seal on THAT door is
maintained by the Brushing Woman in the Kimono Room.

Return there and take the picture of the woman in front of her vanity to break
the seal, then you have to fight her. She's very fast, and Kei's skill with
the Camera Obscura is nearly non-existent, so I would suggest spending a
minimum amount of time in Finder Mode. Watch for her to appear and then go
into the Finder Mode so you can keep track of her more easily.

Return to the Hall with Tatami and you will be attacked by two Men in White.
After defeating them, go down the corridor towards the door you just unsealed.
You will have an opportunity to get a shot of the Disappearing Man. Follow
him into the Blind Room and you will hear voices. (There is a photo op
somewhere in the room but I haven't been able to find it yet.)

The door Miku went through earlier is sealed, so just climb the stairs. The
Impalement Tome is on the first bookshelf at the top of the stairs. Walk to
the back of the room - the "Piercing of Soul" film is on the floor to the left
and the Taboo Tome is on the bookshelf to the right. Collect both items then
inspect the small bookcase in the center to move it.

Behind the bookshelves to the right is a small altar. Inspect the altar for
the Butterfly Key and a clue to 'Put the Tome of Commandment on the altar'.
You can climb the ladder to the flickering room. When you first enter the
room a vanishing ghost appears to the right, through the gap.

I would suggest you linger only if you have full health, full healing items
and a lot of film as there is a high probability that you will be attacked by
a Needle Woman, and Kei's power simply isn't high enough to take her down
quickly at this point.

If you do decide to explore the room, a Type-90 film waits on the other side,
but if you don't, Rei can pick it up on the next night.

Either way, as you're leaving the Kuze Family Head will attack you again. You
still can't defeat her, but she likes to block the stairwell, so you need to
lure her further into the library then run past her down the stairs and out
the door.

You also may want to take a detour to the Projection Room at the opposite end
of the Bell Hallway. Kei can snap a picture of the Projector Woman on the
screen, then check the stack of books on the floor next to the left-hand side
of the bookshelf to get Folklore Notes 2.

The quickest way back to the Butterfly Door is through the Kimono Room; you
won't have to face Brushing Woman again so go through the door on the other
side of the line of kimonos (that will return you to the 2F Barred Hallway).

Run down the stairs and across again, then up the little stairwell to reach
the Butterfly door. Unlock it and you will see Mio inside in a cell.

Rei wakes up immediately afterward, but it's still nighttime. Leave her room
and you'll hear noise coming from Yuu's room. Go into Yuu's room and check
the closet. From there, go into the attic for a cutscene...

Then Rei wakes up for REAL this time.

Go downstairs and walk towards the darkroom to see the cat bristling and
staring at something in the altar room. Go inside and check the closet to
find the Unknown film. (Then for fun, go check the closet with the cleaning
supplies down the hall from the darkroom..)

Once you're done exploring the house, go to Yuu's room and enter the attic
like you did in your dream. The Spirit Stone Radio and instructions are in
the same place they were in your dream...and once you collect them, it's
time to go back to bed.

F. Hour VI: The Sacrificial Pillars
    Character: Rei Kurosawa

[NIGHT]

You wake up in the Doll Altar East that you ended up in last time. When you
exit, the door to the right is sealed, so walk out of the corridor and around
to the right. You will see Yuu entering the door by the save point, and if
you're quick enough you can get a picture of him. Either way, follow him and
take a picture of the door. Return the way you came and a priest will appear
next to the tree. The capture circle flickers blue so the best way to catch
this picture is to aim slightly to the left (which would be behind the priest)
and snap his picture when he starts walking towards where you're aiming. That
will produce more film to be developed in the real world. Continue walking
around the Garden Corridor until you reach the door to the 1F Closet Hallway.
You'll hear voices when you get close.

Follow the bloody trail behind the dresser and quickly snap a picture of the
man. When he disappears pick up the "Sacrificial Pillars" film. Exit into
the Bell Hallway. As you approach the intersection several men will run by.
If you didn't do this already in the previous chapter, go to the Projector
Room first (to the right from where you came in) and snap a picture of the
Projector Woman on the screen, and collect the Type-14 film from the alcove.
Don't linger or the Priestess Girl will attack you.

Return to the Bell Hallway and check the door the blood leads to. It's sealed
of course. NOTE: YOU MUST CHECK THE DOOR TO TRIGGER THE NEXT PART. Start
walking back and a ghost will appear above to show you the way. Go through
the Kimono Room and into the short door leading to the 2F Round Window Foyer.

As you walk across the beams, a Priestess Girl will attack you. Since you
can't run on the beams, move as quickly as you can across them until you
reach the wider platform at the back. That will give you more mobility. Once
she is defeated she leave behind Sleeping Stone (2).

Now you have the means to unlock the door on the right side of the room. Walk
down the beams on the right until you reach the door. Then move the right
stone down one then left one. Move the middle stone right one. Move the
bottom left stone up one and right one. Move the upper stone left one and
down one. Move the bottom stone left one. This should unlock the door.

Pick up the "Commandment" film off the floor then look through the peephole.
Go into finder mode to snap a picture of the priest in the ceremony room.
Exit the room. As you're returning down the narrow hallway to the Kimono Room
a priest will appear to the right near the door.

Continue through the Kimono Room and exit out into the 2F Closet Hallway.
(OPTIONAL: Go through the door to the Barred Hallway first. Go to the first
floor and look around the hole in the roof for Child in Snow.)

Follow the blood to the closet to be attacked by a Man in White. Take the
Herbal Medicine from the closet and return to the Bell Hallway. When you
get to the intersection more ghosts run across your path, but this time, you
can take their pictures.. then they will attack! Kill them and follow the
blood to the door to the Room with Tatami.

Upon entering the Room with Tatami the clock will chime loudly and you will
be attacked by an Engraved Man. These are essentially more powerful versions
of the Men in White, and can be dodged fairly easily. Once you've defeated
him, one of the seals dissolves and you get Moriya Tome 1 and Rei's Flash
ability.

If you haven't already, now might be a good time to go into the Blind Room,
collect the respawning Herbal Medicine from behind the screen, and go up
into the Flickering Room to grab your Type-90 film. All other doors in that
room are sealed so return via the Bell Hallway to the Grave Courtyard. A
ghost will appear up and to the left so grab that picture and enter the
stained corridor. Check next to the well for a Sacred Water, then go through
the corridor and exit by the Northwest door leading to the 1F Stairs Hall.

As soon as you exit the door you will be attacked by another Engraved Man.
Defeat him using the same tactics as before and you'll receive Moriya Tome 2.
As you climb the stairs you'll hear voices - it sounds like Yoshino. You can
go back to the Room with Blind you fought her in for another chance to fight
her, or you can just go to the Partitioned Room. If you're looking at the
map, there is a Type-14 film in the second section on the left side of the
map. In the last section of the room on the right, take a shot through the
gap in the partition to quiet the voices.`

From here, you have two choices. When you enter the 1F Foyer a Man in White
will attack you. After defeating him, you can continue down the hall towards
the exit for Engraved Man #4 or you can do them in order. If you decide to
go kill the one in the Foyer first, he appears behind you briefly before
attacking.

Just remember that the narrow space makes it easier for him to attack you.
Keep your distance and keep hitting him. When you're done with him, go back
up to the second floor. There is a door under the stairs heading to the 3F
Storage, but it's not marked on the map. It should be open at this point. Go
inside for an interesting experience...

Once you're done with that, return to the 1F Hearth. A little girl will
appear at the top of the ladder leading up to the Bellflower Door, so grab her
picture and climb the ladder. You will hear a child giggling - go back down
the ladder and climb the steps, then turn around and aim straight across to
catch the Peeping Woman. (Again, I know there is a second picture at this
point but I was unable to find it my first time through.)

Return to the Bellflower Door and enter it. Take a picture of the Peeping Girl
then check the desk for the Sleeping Stone (3) and the Blast Lens. Check the
dresser behind the desk for a Type-90 film, then peer through the peephole.
Take the picture through the peephole then go down the stairs on the east side
of the room. There is a Type-14 film under the platform and a sealed door
at the base.

Return to Himuro Mansion. The quickest way would be to go through the double
doors in the 1F Hearth back to the Room with Tatami, then through the door
there. There is an Herbal Medicine in the Foyer, and a stationary ghost in
the ceiling of the Rope Hallway.

Then go to the Great Hall and unlock the door with the sleeping stone puzzle.
To solve the puzzle, move the middle stone right one, then up one. Move the
top left stone right one, down one, and right one. Move the left stone right
one, up one, and left one. Move the bottom middle stone up two. Move the
bottom left stone right one, up one, left one. Move the bottom right stone
left one and up one.

That door gives you access to the Futon Room. You will fight one Engraved
Man and two Men in White. When they're defeated you'll receive Moriya Tome 3.

Now that the seals are broken, return to the Spirit Tree Courtyard and try
to enter the double doors. A Hidden Face Man will appear behind you and Rei
will wake up. Walk downstairs and answer the phone - someone is screaming
into it. If you walk down the hall towards the bathroom, you'll see feet
under the curtain. If you're quick when you enter the bathroom your camera
should orient on the ghost as it goes past.

Exit the bathroom and walk to the darkroom to develop your film. A girl is
sitting on the floor next to the developing table. Take her picture to get
Woman on Feet (500 pts). Develop your film and go check on Miku. She's
sleeping, so there is only one thing to do - since it's nighttime still, just
go back to bed.

G. Hour VII: The Hanging Prison
    Character: Miku Hinasaki

[NIGHT]

Miku starts in front of the altar from before. There is a blue glow to the
right of the altar, which nets you more Musty Film. Exit to the Blind Room.
As soon as you near the top of the stairs, point your camera toward the right
side of the tent in the middle of the room to capture Girl Behind. There is
a respawning herbal medicine behind the screen in the corner to collect as
well.

Since the door leading to the Garden Corridor is sealed, go to the Hall with
Tatami. The respawning Type-14 is in its usual spot in the large section off
the corridor. Walk around the raised dais and you will hear a lullaby.
Squeeze through the narrow door near the floor.

Inside, you will find the Double ability for Miku. As you follow the corridor
you will be attacked by a Crawling Woman. She is very, very fast. The only
way to beat her is to watch for her approach, pull up your camera and score a
Fatal Frame or Shutter Chance on her. Nothing else hurts her very much. I
found that one double-fatal frame-combo took her down in Normal mode. Note:
once you beat her, whether here or later in the game, she gives you more Musty
Film to develop. You can run from her if necessary by exiting the room.

Continue around the corridor and enter the trapdoor at the end. This will
take you to Doll Altar West. Collect the Purity Stone: Light Blue and the
Green Diary from the altar, and a Shrine Maiden will attack you. Defeat her
and exit out the other side of the room.

Continue through this corridor to the southwest to reach the exit to the
Wooden Figure Room. Take the picture of the curtain and unlock the door to
the Barred Hallway 1F. Follow it to the end and climb the stairs to 2F Barred
Hallway. A respawning herbal medicine is in the closet. Collect it then go
through the door into the Kimono Room. Purple Diary 2 is in front of the
mirror stand. Get it then exit to the 2F Closet Hallway and return to the
Garden Corridor.

The door to Doll Altar North is currently sealed; snapping a picture of the
seal will show a peephole somewhere. Walk around the Garden Corridor to the
other side and enter Doll Altar East. Collect the Purity Stone: Green from
the altar inside. The door at the end of the corridor leads back to the
Blind Room and is currently sealed.

(OPTIONAL: You can backtrack and find an herbal medicine in the other section
of the 1F Barred Hallway, if you so desire. It is in the alcove alongside the
hallway.)

Return via the Kimono Room to the 2F Round Window Foyer. This room is through
the small door by the stairs. Cross the beams and enter the 2F Wooden Figure
Room (the room previously sealed by the sleeping stone puzzle.) Take the
picture through the peephole to unseal the Doll Altar North. As you return
through the 2F Foyer a girl will appear below. To my knowledge this is not a
picture you can capture.

Return to the Garden Corridor once again and enter the previously sealed Doll
Altar. Pick up the Purity Stone: Blue and the Red Diary 1 from the altar. If
you make a quick trip back to the Wooden Figure Room you can snap a picture of
a figure before the altar. You can also return to the 'haunted' room in the
2F Stairs Hallway to collect a Type-61 film from the chest and the 1F Hearth
Room to find an herbal medicine under the stairs.

To move on, return to the Stained Corridor and go through the short door that
Rei could only enter. There will be an herbal medicine right inside the door,
and Miku can now fit into the corridor. Crawl through the corridor and the
Crawling Woman will attack at the intersection. Once you've disposed of her
take a left at the intersection for a Stone Mirror. The passage is blocked
that way so return and go to the right at the intersection to reach Doll Altar
South.

Pick up the Purity Stone: Red and the Blue Diary 1 then unlock the door on the
other side to reach the Grand Staircase. Partway up the stairs is a Type-14
film. Near that section of the stairs, two Shrine Maidens will attack you.
Once you defeat them you can continue up the stairs to the Tatami Loft. Go
back through the Hearth Room to the Room with Tatami, then take the door back
to the Blind Room. As you walk down the stairs to the Tattoo Altar, you will
hear voices. Turn around and point the camera at the tent but to the right -
basically the same spot you snapped at the beginning of the chapter.

Enter the Tattoo Altar and collect the Blue Diary 2. Then place the Purity
Stones on the altar in the following order, from left to right:

Light Blue
Green
Red
Blue

If done correctly, the Handmaiden's Song will play.

"Sleep priestess, lie in peace. Sleep, priestess, lie in peace.
If the priestess wakes from her dream
Perform the rite of stakes her limbs pinned tight
Lest the doors open wide and suffering unleashed on all.."

The Kuze Family Master will attack! The strategy for beating this boss is
fairly simple. Keep track of her as she moves around the room. When she
stops, point the camera at her to charge it but attack as soon as the capture
circle turns red. Otherwise she will shoot arms at you that do a significant
amount of damage. If you hit her during a shutter chance it will stop her
long-range attacks. Keep this pattern up until you've taken her down.

Rei will wake up after this battle. Go talk to Miku about what you've just
seen, then it will shift back to daytime.

Develop the film then pick up the Ritual Book and the Shrine Carpenter article
from Yuu's bookshelf, then head downstairs for Letter from Kei 6 as well as
the tapes The Same Dream 2 & The Same Dream 3 on the counter. Listen to the
tapes for it to become night again. Then of course, it's back to bed..

H. Hour VIII: The Vacant Dream
    Character: Kei Amakura

[NIGHT]

Kei is where you left him, standing before Mio's cell. Before you leave, aim
the camera at Mio until the center circle locks on her. The capture circle
will NOT light up, but take the picture anyway for more Musty Film. The door
to her cell is locked with Shadow & Light keys.

Exit through the door directly behind Kei. It leads to a small room then the
Storehouse Hallway. First, look for the Pressure Lens on a cushion in front
of the screen in that small room. Second, there is a Stone Mirror in the
alcove to the right as you enter the Storehouse Hallway. Don't go all the
way to the end yet because the door at the end of the hallway is locked with a
pinwheel puzzle.

Face Mio's cell and take the door to Kei's left. It leads to the Great Hall,
aka the Extremely Bloody Room. Enter the door to your left to get a snapshot
of the Worn Out Man, who is familiar to Fatal Frame II fans as Masumi the
geologist. Exit and walk around the room to the right. A set of twins will
appear near the fireplace in the center of the room. There is a Type-14 film
in front of the screen near the northwest door. Exit the room and follow the
butterfly by walking around to the 1F Fireplace. The Red Notebook 1 is by the
fireplace itself.

The door directly across from you as you enter the 1F Fireplace leads to a
short hallway and the exit to the real world. If you inspect the piles along
the wall, the message that one of them appears to contain something but is
boarded shut will appear. (If anyone figures out how to access this item, or
if it CAN be accessed, please let me know.)

Approach the door directly across from the fireplace itself and the twins will
appear on the second floor above you. Get their pictures and enter the door
to the Kimono Room. There is a save point inside as well as Red Notebook 2
upon entry. Enter the closet section to the right of the door to pick up the
Ginger Key.

As soon as you get the key, turn around to grab a picture of Woman Behind Bars
(which is none other than the Tattooed Woman arriving to chase Kei around a
bit!). Run out the door and up the stairs as fast as you can, then unlock
the Ginger Door with the key you found in the Kimono Room closet. The twins
appear yet again. Try to get them both in the shot for 1000 points; if you
only get one of them it's only worth 500 points.

Pick up the Sunlight and Shadow keys from where the twins were sitting. A
girl will appear behind the partition behind you. Grab her picture. The
door behind the partition is sealed with a pinwheel puzzle as well, so return
to the Great Hall. Then yet another old "friend" makes an appearance.

The Rope Man, aka the Kusabi, is no longer a one-hit-kill ghost like he was in
Fatal Frame II. Since he's sealed the exits, just run around the room and
dodge him until a crimson butterfly appears in front of the exit and unlocks
it. Go through the door and back to Mio's cell. She's no longer there, but
unlock the door anyway for a Pinwheel and the Zero Lens on the desk. Also
check the bookshelves in the back of the cell for the "Crimson Sacrifice"
tome.

Now go down the Storehouse Hallway, following the butterfly, until you reach
the locked door at the end. Inspect it to use your pinwheel.

To unlock the door, move the upper right pinwheel 1 time. Move the upper left
pinwheel 2 times. Then move the bottom left one 1 time.

Follow the corridor around to the Rope Shrine. There is a vanishing ghost in
the rafters and Mio goes through the door across the shrine. Try to follow
her and the Rope Man attacks yet again. This time you have to beat him to
move on. He's incredibly fast and tends to attack by swooping at you. The
best bet is to keep an eye on him and when he stops and gets ready to swoop
try to get at least one Fatal Frame on him. That will stun him for a second,
so just keep snapping pictures. One Fatal Frame/Shutter Chance + 3-5 regular
shots should get him.

You STILL can't follow Mio though, so turn around and go back out the way you
came. Upon exiting the Rope Shrine the Kusabi will once again pop up behind
you. Don't even bother fighting him, just run back down the corridor. When
you reach the end of the Storeroom Hallway a crimson butterfly will unlock the
door to your right. Go through it and Rei will wake yet again.

The phone is ringing. Run downstairs and pick it up. It's Kei, and he says
he will come pay his respects to Yuu in person soon. Nighttime falls once
again. Develop your film if you haven't already and talk to Miku to have her
research the photo of Mio. Collect the article about Missing Surveyors from
Yuu's desk, then return to Rei's room. Snap a picture of the arm protruding
from under the bed, then go to sleep once again.

I. Hour IX: The Unleashing
    Character: Rei Kurosawa

[NIGHT]

Rei wakes up inside the Hanging Prison. Take a picture of the girl that
appears behind you, then exit the prison and walk through the double doors to
wind up in the Garden Corridor. Walk around the corridor and try to go down
each of the other corridors to get a picture of a bowing Shrine Maiden (500
pts. each). Try to enter through the double doors by the save point and the
scene will abruptly regain its color as Rei realises the door is still sealed.

Hidden Face Man will attack from behind you. Finish him off, then you have
two things you can do.

The first one is optional but still highly recommended. Cut through the 1F
Closet Hallway to the Bell Hallway. Go to the 1F Hearth through the Room with
Tatami, then follow the corridor and cross to the Partitioned Room. Take a
picture of the Distressed Woman through the tatami at the end of the room,
then proceed to go upstairs. Return to the Room with Blind that you fought
Yoshino in at the beginning of the game. The blind in the corner of the room
is open again. Collect the Type-61 film (if you didn't get it at the
beginning of the game) and the Calico Diary 2 from behind the screen. The
Kuze family head will attack as you exit the screen. Defeat him and return
downstairs.  NOTE:  There is a chance you will have to fight Yoshino again;
there is also a chance that she might appear and then leave without attacking.

Go back downstairs for another chance at the Distressed Woman (though you get
no points if you took her picture on the way through the last time). Exit the
Partitioned Room and start toward the exit in the Foyer. Just past the first
chest the filament will pop up and the Stroller Grandma will attack.

This ghost has proven for many people to be one of the most difficult in the
game. She will come through the wall at you, and she cannot be pushed back
during a shutter chance or with a special lens. If she hits you three times
she will either kill you, disappear, or both.

My strategy is: Have Blast Lens upgraded at least to level 2 and have it
fully charged. Load a higher type film. When a Fatal Frame comes up, use
the Blast Lens for the first shot. Keep backing up and staying in finder
mode, and get a second Shutter Chance or Fatal Frame shot, and that should do
her in.

Remember that if you try to get even a small reprieve by going down the left
or right passages even a little, she will run away!

When you defeat her she drops the Notched Arrow Key. Take it back to the
locked gate next to the exit and go on in. A small door inside opens to
yet another corridor. A Stone Mirror is near the door. Follow the corridor
and you will come out in the room Yoshino is in - behind the partitions.

Defeat her the same way you have before and collect your prize: The Measure
function for your camera and Yoshino's Photo. The Measure function is HIGHLY
recommended as it allows you to see how much health your enemy has left.

Return to the Stained Corridor (through the Partitioned Room, through the 1F
Stairs Hallway is the fastest way back) and you will see a figure walking
around the corner. I don't know if you can snap his picture, but follow him
to reach the join in the wall that you couldn't open earlier. Now it's loose,
so open it up and take a picture of the Hidden Face Man laying in the middle
of the room. That will dissolve the final seal on the door.

He won't attack you, so go to the back of the room and open the trapdoor.
Collect the Map with a Mark and the Switch function. Return to the Garden
Corridor. A Hidden Face Man will attack again. Defeat him and go through
the double doors. The screen goes black & white again. Walk down the center
pathway and take the pictures of the Needle Women lining the path. A ghost
appears off to your left but I don't believe she is capturable. As you
approach the doors to the shrine, Rei will wake again.

The phone is ringing, so go downstairs and answer it. It sounds like Miku
screaming "Let me out!" Hang up and try to leave the living room, and the
phone rings again. This time it's Kei. Talk to him then night falls again.

Walk downstairs and as you pass the bathroom the angle will change to show
a set of bloody handprints on the mirror. Approach and put up your camera and
a Needle Woman will start climbing up the inside of the mirror. Grab the
picture and head back up to Yuu's room. Check his desk for a book on the
Manor of Sleep. GO back to bed to begin..

J. Hour X: The Piercing of Soul
    Character: Kei Amakura

[NIGHT]

Go left and once again climb the stairs to the 2F Barred Hallway. Door Woman
appears at the top of the stairs in front of the door to the Kimono Room.
Grab the respawning Herbal Medicine from the closet then go in to the Kimono
Room.

Take a picture of the Crying Woman in front of her vanity and of course she
will attack you. This Brushing Woman has a slightly different strategy from
the other times you've fought her. She likes to disappear behind the walls
and throw hair projectiles at you. If you hear her say "You promised you'd
come back", she's getting ready to launch projectiles, so keep moving or get
a Fatal Frame on her. When she says "I won't let you go", that's when she's
about to swoop at you. Be prepared to take a shot and/or dodge her. Keep it
up and she will go down soon enough.

Once defeated she drops the Dianthus Key. Exit the Kimono Room to the 2F
Closet Hallway and go down the stairs. You can now unlock the short door
diagonal from the stairs. Go inside for a Stone Mirror and a photo op above
the well which gets you more Musty Film.

**************************NOTE******************************

Now is the best time to explore the Manor with Kei, because
as soon as you follow Rei's path into the Shrine Courtyard
things become even more difficult. Even though these next
few steps are optional I recommend doing them to save time
later!

************************************************************

Backtrack to the 2F Stairs Hallway. At the end of the hallway there is a
chest blocking a door. Use Kei to push it out of the way and go out onto the
roof. Follow the roof around to the other side and go through the door to
2F Closed Room.

The Purple Diary 4 is in the middle of the room. As soon as you pick it up
the Crying Woman appears as a vanishing ghost. Snap her picture then check
the dresser for some Type Zero film. Go through the trapdoor where the ghost
had been to end up in 1F Hearth Room.

Brushing Woman will attack you yet again. The same strategies as before apply
and when you defeat her she will surrender a Pierce Lens.

There is one more dresser that you can move as Kei. Backtrack through Himuro
Mansion's Great Hall to reach the Futon Room. Shove the dresser along the
left wall out of the way to open up to the Grand Staircase. You can also pick
up the respawning Type-14 film under the platform on the stairs.

When you are ready, return to the Garden Corridor and go through the doors to
the Shrine Courtyard. Everything turns black and white, and an explanation of
the Purifying Light appears in your notes.

A respawning Herbal Medicine is to the right, mixed in with the rubble. There
is also a photo op in the rubble to the left of the medicine. To the left,
behind the graves, is another Type Zero film. If you're quick as you approach
the shrine you can get a photo of a man walking along the roof.

The doors to the shrine are sealed, so go left. To the right of the stairs is
a Sacred Water, but it is very hard to see. Climb the stairs to enter the All
Gods' Village 1F Storehouse. Walk around the storehouse and a Peering Girl
will appear on the second floor. Grab her picture. She drops a pinwheel
part.

Collect it and go through the storehouse to end up back in what was once the
Osaka House. Follow the butterfly once again to the Sunken Fireplace room.
The twins appear again on the upper level by the Ginger door, so you can get
their pictures again. Go up to the Ginger Room and the twins appear in their
places again. Take the picture and this time go back the partitioned 'hall'.

Use the pinwheel in the puzzle. When finished, the puzzle should have the
upper left one with the gold petal pointing inward. The upper right one
should have the blue petal pointing inward, and the bottom two should have
the red petals pointing inward.

Accomplish this by turning the upper left wheel 1 turn, the upper right 1
turn, the lower left 1 turn and the lower right 2 turns.

This leads to the 2F Storehouse. Search the shelves for the Purifying Light
Tome, the Rite of Purple Ink Tome, The Tearing Tome, The Unleashing Tome, and
The Mirror of Loss Tome. Climb the stairs and take a picture of the blue glow
behind the screen. You'll collect your first Purifying Light where the glow
was, and there is some Type 90 film on the shelf.

Go out the doors and on to the roof. Take a picture of the Man on Roof, and
then check the edge to find out you can jump across. Jump across and follow
the man. You can get a second shot of him if you're quick as you round the
corner. Go through the doors to the Attic Room.

The Film: Abyss is on the bookshelf in the corner, and another Type 90 film is
in the chest next to the stairs. Descend to reach the beams. Work your way
across the beams for a Purifying Light, a Stone Mirror, an Herbal Medicine,
and a Sacred Water. (The filament will turn red near the right side but I
couldn't get the angle needed to capture whatever was there, so I don't even
know if it *is* capturable.)

Work your way to the plank on the left side of the room and go down through
the trapdoor. Inside the shrine, pick up the Piercing the Soul Tome to be
attacked by two Needle Women. All you can really do is don't stand still for
too long and pick them off one at a time. Once you've defeated them try to
exit, and Rei will wake up.

Walk downstairs to hear Miku and someone else singing the lullaby. When you
reach the bottom of the stairs, Miku is joined by one of the Shrine Priestess
girls. You can't take the picture because she disappears before the scene
ends. Talk to Miku, develop your film, and night will descend again.

Talk to Miku before bed to get her to research your latest photo. Then head
back to bed.

K. Hour XI: The Last Passage
    Character: Miku Hinasaki

[NIGHT]

Exit the Tattoo Altar and begin climbing the stairs back to the Blind Room.
You will hear voices; point the camera up and to the right to catch the Girl
Behind. Then quickly walk around to the stairs to catch a shot of the man
walking up the stairs. Pick up the Herbal Medicine from behind the screen and
enter the now open tent to get the Calico Diary 1.

Go upstairs into the library and walk to the back. Take a shot of the
glowing library altar to see Amane behind the partition in the 2F Storehouse.
There is a Purifying Light up the ladder that leads to the Flickering Room.
You can pick it up now or leave it for later.

There is another Purifying Light in the 1F Closet Hallway that you can collect
on the way back to the Shrine Courtyard. Once you enter the couryard, pick
up the respawning Herbal Medicine by the rubble pile and return to the
Storehouse. Follow the same path Kei did (through the storehouse, into the
village house, and through the room with the Ginger lock) to reach the 2F
Storehouse. Climb the stairs and snap the picture of Amane behind the
partition to get the Commandment Tome & the Purifying Light.

Return to the 2F Library and put the Tome of Commandment on the altar. Climb
the ladder and go through the flickering room. The short door in the center
section that has been sealed all along is now open and will grant you access
to the 3F Hanging Prison.

Enter the prison and collect the Mirror of Loss and the Tattooed Diary 1.
Girl Behind will appear briefly, well, behind you. Take her picture and then
go out through the double doors to enter the Kimono Room. As you start down
the short flight of stairs the girl will appear behind you again. Snap her
picture and return to the Garden Corridor.

When you enter the Garden Corridor, three Handmaidens will be standing around
the Spirit Tree. Capture their photo and continue on to the Shrine
Courtyard.

Approach the altar and take a picture of the woman kneeling there - it is the
Kuze Family Head and she will come after you. Defeat her using the same
techniques as before, then put the Mirror of Loss on the altar. The screen
in the back of the room will open, granting you access to the first part of
the Last Passage. Go down the stairs. About halfway down you can point
the camera at the ground and catch a picture of the bound priestess.

When you reach the ground, three Priestess Girls (the ones with the hammers)
attack you in unison. Just carefully take them out one at a time and stay out
of Finder Mode unless you're specifically attacking one of them.

One they've been defeated go through the doors and follow the figure down the
passageway. When you reach the second set of doors, Rei will wake up. Go
check on Miku to see her tattoo - unlike the others in the game it seems to
be mostly red. She will eventually tell you she needs to be alone, so go
back to bed.

Miku's long nightmare continues as she once again wakes in Himuro Mansion's
foyer. Take the door with the mask on it. In the Preserve Room you can get
a snapshot of the Wandering Brother, and as you approach the exit to the room
look up to catch the 'Dangling Hand' through the window. (This opportunity
repeats itself if you try to backtrack after defeating the Rope Shrine
Maiden.)

Return to the Rope Palace. The former Rope Shrine Maiden will attack you
again, and can be defeated the same way as before.

Once you have defeated her, try to leave to see Mafayu walk through the doors.
At this point you have two choices. I am not yet certain what, if any, impact
this has on the game in general. But the choices are:

- Follow Mafayu through the doors. This leads to a cutscene of Rei begging
Miku to stay with her while she runs ever faster away from Rei.

- Try to return to the real world. The front door of Himuro is sealed, as
well as the door to the Rope Palace. The only place to go is down the Rope
Hallway, and when Miku reaches the mirror, the Tattooed Woman appears behind
her as the chapter ends.

You only have one chance to decide which path to take, so choose wisely!

When Rei wakes, go to check on Miku again for a cutscene in which the
Tattooed Woman and her companions are standing around Miku's bed. No matter
what path you chose, the next day Kei Amakura will arrive in person. He gives
you the battered Commandment Tome and Legend of Song 2. He tells you that
Yuu had a tape for him, so go upstairs and collect the 'Sleeping Priestess'
book and tape from the desk. Give the tape to Kei for nighttime to fall.

After it gets dark, walk downstairs and creep slowly down the hall next to
Yuu's memorial room (towards the darkroom). Be prepared because as you start
to pass the memorial room Stroller Grandma will be seen walking down the
other hallway. Grab her picture then return to bed to start the next section.

L. Hour XII: The Ceremony of Commandment
    Character: Kei Amakura

[NIGHT]

Kei starts out in the Garden Corridor. The Tattooed Priestess appears almost
immediately; run past her to Doll Altar East. Once inside, inspect the altar
to trigger a puzzle where you have to make the on the stake disappear.

NOTE: In the following diagrams X indicates the candle that should be lit.

To solve this first puzzle:

                 O
               X O
             O O X
               O X
                 O

This should release Tattoo Stake 1. You'll be attacked by a Priestess Girl.
Defeat her to get the Blow Lens.

Exit the Altar and run around the Garden Corridor to the Doll Altar North.
Inspect the altar to trigger its puzzle. To solve this one:

                 X
               O X
             O X X
               O x
                 O

This will release Tattoo Stake 2, and it's on to the next altar.

The easiest way to reach it is to cut through the Kimono Room to the 2F
Barred Hallway. Open the closet in the Barred Hallway for the usual Herbal
Medicine and the picture of the Closet Child. Go downstairs and follow
the Barred Hallway to the Wooden Figure Room. Enter the trapdoor and cross
for the entrance to Doll Altar West.

To solve this Altar's puzzle:

      O X
    O O O O
  R X X O O O
    O O X X
      O O

This should release Tattoo Stake 3.

To get the final stake, return to the Tatami Loft above the Hearth Room and
take the Grand Staircase to the short door at the bottom. Enter Doll Altar
South. To get Tattoo Stake 4:

              X
            R O
          O O O
            X O
              O

Once you have all the stakes, return to the Garden Corridor. Enter the Shrine
Courtyard yet again. If you so desire (and are willing to risk the miasma),
return to the Book Storeroom. Cut back through the Lost Village and return
through the Twins' Room to the 2F Book Storeroom where you found Aname and
the Commandment Tome. There is a copy of Blue Diary 3 laying on the cushion
behind the partition.

COntinue to the shrine. Go through it and down the spiral stairs into the
Abyss.

The Kuze Family Head will try one last time to destroy Kei. Use the same
tactics as before and she is fairly easy to defeat. Go out through the doors
and you will end up in the Abyss of the Horizon.

Cross the Abyss to the Chamber of Thorns and enter it. A short cutscene will
ensue, thus ending Kei's section of this game for good...

Rei will wake up. Go downstairs and check Kei's briefcase to get Kei's
Research Notes and the Tape: Otosuki. Return upstairs and listen to the tape
(or at least start it), and the Spirit Stone Radio on Rei's desk will react.
Pick up the radio and enter Miku's Room. As you walk towards her desk, Rei
will open the way to the Attic Room. Climb the ladder and walk towards the
front of the room. Attic Woman (500 pts) will appear. Take her picture and
check the first chest on the right for a Master and Snake document.

In the dresser in the leftmost corner, there is an Echo Stone Earring. a
book on the Other World, and the Film: Otosuki. Return to Rei's room after
the cutscene to find Yoshino cowering under the desk. Take her picture and
approach for her to run away. When you go back to bed...

M. Hour VIII: The Calling of the Tattoo
    Character: Rei Kurosawa

[NIGHT]

You start out in the Bell Hallway. The Stroller Grandma attacks quite
frequently in this area. You can go whichever way you like, but I'll start
with going left to the Projection Room. Reika's ghost will appear and leave
behind Mirror Fragment 5. You can also pick up the Film: Horizon from the
projector. Pick up the respawning Type 14 from the alcove.

Return to the Spirit Tree Courtyard for Mirror Fragment 1 in front of the
tree. Return via the 1F Closet Hallway to the Kimono Room. Go through the
Kimono Room and up the stairs to reach the Hanging Prison Room. Mirror
Fragment 2 and the Pierce Lens are inside the Hanging Prison.

I recommend going through the door leading to the 2F Round Window Foyer and
crossing the beams to the 2F Wooden Figure Room. You can look through the
peephole and grab a picture of Needle Woman. Although your camera can and
does charge if you leave it on her, you cannot defeat her through the
peephole. It is of course an addition to your spirit list as well as a chance
to fully charge your camera before some big fights.

Then return to the Bell Hallway, and go through the Hall with Tatami to the
Blind Room. Mirror Fragment 3 can be found inside the tent in the middle of
the room.

The final Mirror Fragment is in the Wooden Figure Room at the end of the
Barred Hallway. As you approach the Shrine Woman appears briefly; grab her
picture then pick up Mirror Fragment 4, the Tattoed Diary 2, and the Purifying
Light.

Now there are a couple of optional things you can do.

First, return to the 2F Corridor (off the 2F Hearth Room) and take pictures
of the Ceremony x 2 through the peephole. Then return to the 3F Storage Room
and exit out on to the roof. Cross the roof to the room where you found the
Two Mandarins Key at the beginning of the game. The trapdoor at the back
of the room is finally open.

Climb down the stairs and take the pictures of the Handmaiden's Last x 2 for
2000 pts. You will be attacked by the last Shrine Maiden, Hisane. She floats
around and attacks from above, but once you've defeated her you get her diary.

On your way back from doing that, return to the Room with Blind where you
fought Yoshino way back at the beginning of the game. Walk up to the closet
and collect the shot of the Woman in Closet.

When you're done exploring, return to the Shrine Courtyard and enter the
Shrine. As you enter, you can snap the picture of the Woman in Blind, then
once again the Kuze Family Head will try to kill you. Defeat her with the
same tactics as before then place the Mirror of Loss on the altar and enter
the Last Passage.

N. Final Hour: The Abyss of the Horizon
    Character: Rei Kurosawa

Aim to the right to take a picture of the Woman in Shrine. There is a Type-
14 Film and Sacred Water in the Shrine. Continue along the passage and enter
the next set of doors. There are two Beckoning Women inside. Examine the
cage for a cutscene, then go down the stairs into the Abyss. On your way down
the stairs three Priestess Girls will attack you. You'll need to defeat them
before you can move on. Collect the Tattooed Diary 3 from near the cage and
save before you exit through the doors.

Collect the Type-14 and the Sacred Water near the door, then cross the passage
until you reach the Abyss of the Horizon. Continue on to the Chamber of
Thorns for a somewhat lengthy cutscene, then the final battle commences!

----------------------------------------------
FINAL BATTLE: REIKA, THE TATTOOED PRIESTESS
----------------------------------------------

The battle begins with Reika standing on the stairs of the Chamber of Thorns.
You can aim your camera at her and charge it up as she walks toward you.

She appears to have three or four main attacks. One is when she walks toward
you on the ground. This attack makes it rather easy to get a shutter chance
on her. The second is when she flies around and swoops at you. This one is
near impossible to deflect or hit, so just dodge it. She fires blue energy
at you, again something that just has to be dodged. And the worst attack is
the miasma field that covers the field every once in a while.

The miasma field makes everything go black and white, and Reika lunges at you.
Unlike her other attacks, though, this leads to an instant one-hit kill. The
only real way to protect yourself is to carry a stone mirror with you.

When the screen goes black and white my best suggestion is to stay near the
center of the field, because when it's monocrome it's hard to see what you're
running into. Try to stay as far ahead of Reika as possible; I literally ran
circles around her because her lunges carry her further than her normal grabby
attacks.

If you can hold out long enough, the miasma will dissolve and the field will
regain its color, at least for a while.

My suggestion is to equip your strongest film and get as many shutter chances
as you can while running away from her during the monochrome phases. It can
be difficult but it can be done. :)

Once she's defeated, sit back and enjoy the ending!

-------------------------------
V. The Second Time Around....
-------------------------------

This section will deal with things you can only find on your second (or more)
playthrough of the game.

A. Hour 1

    1. Peeping Girl - When you go to take the picture of the Impaling Girl
through the peephole in the corridor, raise your viewfinder and wait for
a split secont to snap the picture. Peeping Girl should pop up; take her
picture for 1000 pts then take the picture of Impaling Girl.

    2. This event occurs when it turns night after defeating Yoshino for the
first time, after Miku gives you her diary. When you exit Rei's room, the
screen should turn grainy. Run downstairs and talk to Miku. You should
see Yoshino in the kitchen over Miku's shoulder. You cannot take her
picture; she disappears as soon as you raise your viewfinder.

Return to Rei's room and you should hear someone crying.

**I STRONGLY SUGGEST SAVING BEFORE ATTEMPTING THIS NEXT PART**

Open Rei's closet and a child is huddled inside, crying. It takes split-
second timing to get the picture (hence my suggestion to save before
trying to get this picture). Closet Child is worth 500 points.

B. Hour V
    1. After Rei awakens for real and goes into the attic to collect the
Spirit Stone Radio, point your camera towards the corridor the Crawling
Woman came out of in your dream. You can collect yet another photo, of
    Kuriko Asanama.

C. Hour X
    1. ALTERNATE ENDING - As Kei, follow the same procedure outlined in the
walkthrough to get the Penetrate lens (move the dresser at the end of
the 2F Stairs Hallway, walk around the roof into the Closed Tatami Room,
climb down the ladder into the Hearth Room, and fight Kyouka Kuze). This
time, she will drop the Holly Key along with the lens. Return to the
kimono room and unlock the drawer to collect the Echo Stone Earring, the
Legend of Song 2, and the picture of Akito. This will change Kei's fate,
and give you an alternate ending. The ending isn't THAT different but
pay careful attention to the photos at the end.

--------------------------------
VI. Camera Upgrades & Equipment
--------------------------------

A) Upgrades

    1) Alarm - Alerts you to a 'shutter moment' and rings a little bell to
help you identify chances for a combo.
    2) Evade - Press the shutter button at the right time to evade a ghost's
    attack.
    3) Track - Automatically points the camera in the direction of the nearest
    ghost.
    4) Measure - Shows a ghost's remaining health.
    5) Sense - Points you automatically in the direction of a ghost.
    6) Zoom

B) Lenses
    1) Slow Lens - Slows a ghost's movements and extends the shutter moment,
giving you a better chance at getting a Fatal Frame.
    2) Pressure Lens - Pushes a ghost back and increases damage dealt.
    3) Blast Lens - Knocks a ghost back and increases damage dealt.
    4) Zero Lens
    5) Pierce Lens
    6) Penetrate Lens
    7) Stop Lens (unlocked after beating the game)
    8) Crush Lens (unlocked after beating the game & capturing 150 ghosts)

C) Miscellaneous Equipment

    1) Sacred Stone Amulet (MIKU ONLY) - Miku's equivalent of the Slow Lens,
it is recharged with damage given and taken.
    2) Double (MIKU ONLY) - Hold the shutter button down to charge spirit
power to a second level. Releasing the button to take a picture does more
    damage at once.
    3) Store - beginning ability; allows you to increase the number of spirit
points the camera can hold. Spirit points enable you to use your special
    abilities.
    4) Flash (REI ONLY) - An upgraded 'evade' that can actually banish weaker
    spirits.

XII. FAQ/General Hints
------------------------

How do I save?
A. In the Manor of Sleep look for blue lanterns. In the real world you can
save using the Camera Obscura on Rei's desk.

But the blue lantern isn't glowing! Why can't I save?
A. There is a ghost in the room with the lantern and you can't save until you
have defeated it, or in the case of certain vanishing ghosts, waited until it
disappears.

Do I have to have played the previous games to enjoy this one?
A. Not really but there are a lot of correlations with the previous two games
so playing them first might help you understand this one better.

How do I interact with the cat?
A. Walk up to it and press X to crouch down, then press O to hold out your
hand to it. If the cat is sleeping, nothing will happen, otherwise it might
rub against you or bat at you.

What is going on with that stain on the wall outside the darkroom?
A. It DOES change in size and shape throughout the game. As far as I can
tell though it serves no real purpose except to mess with your head.

I'm out of film/healing items! What do I do now?
A. Unlike the previous games, if you can make it to the 'real world' your
health, Herbal Medicines, Type-14 and Type-07 film will be reset to base
levels. Doors to the 'real world' include the ones in the Foyer of the Manor
of Sleep and the Foyer in Himuro Mansion.

XIII. KOE LYRICS
----------------

Koe: English Lyrics
Translation credit goes to Novawolf for translating the romanji posted by
Kadzuki (Amano Tsukiko LJ community) on the Fatal Frame LJ community.

If you're still alive, under the sea,
I'll cut off both my legs and become a fish.

If you come close enough for me to fall into the depths,
I'll become a shadow, wandering the endless darkness.

Entrancingly drifting in the air, my shimmering haze,
I only remembered the days that weren't granted to us.
    You're not here.
I know that. I know that.

    Rising, rising, the sun
    Purifies this place.
    The seal carved in blue
Is stolen away by the warm, warm wind.

If these words ever reach you,
I'll take my living body and throw it away.

A present [as in "now" not "gift"] that has erased my vivid wounds -
Your warmth that steals everything -
I longed for them, I searched for them
    Even though they're illusions.

    Vanishing, vanishing, your warmth
    Follows me to this place.
Your arms that could wipe away even punishment -
I want to sleep embracing them.

    Rising, rising, the sun
    Purifies this place.
Your arms that could wipe away even punishment -
I want to sleep embracing them.

    Vanishing, vanishing, your warmth
    Follows me to this place.
    The seal carved in blue
Is stolen away by the warm, warm wind.

The splinters of memories are rotting away.
The piercings that fill me aren't enough.
    I'm forgetting - it's blurring -
Your voice disappears in the noise.

    They're rotting, they're shedding -
The piercings that fill me aren't enough.
    Without leaving a trace - I'm forgetting -
    Your voice is becoming noise.

XIV. Miscellaneous
-------------------

- Just like the other games, if you leave this one sit idle for too long a
freaky screensaver will pop up. Depending on which screen you have open
during the idle time will depend on how much of it is actually visible.

- Every night, walk through the house and explore every room. There are
various shadows, ghosts, and other odd happenings nearly every night.

- This game has various 'scare moments' or unusual happenings.
   * The doll in Miku's room. Her hair grows from short at the beginning of
the game to long by the end.
   * In between Hour XI & XII, a ball will fall off Miku's shelf.
   * The stain outside the darkroom becomes a human face.
   * A ball drops down the stairs from the 3F Storeroom.
   * After you acquire the Unknown film from the closet in the real world
Altar Room, check the closet down the hall from the Darkroom.
   * The 'haunted' door in the 2F Stairs Hallway
   * A rope falls and hits Miku in the Himuro Mansion Rope Hallway
   * Sometimes the candles by the Himuro entrance will flare up
   * A bell falls in the Bell Hallway, just missing Rei
   * Sometimes the lanterns in the Foyer of the Manor of Sleep will flare up
   * The doll in the Room w/ Tatami (next to the Type-14 film) will look at
      you
