III. About Zhu Rong
The Dynasty Warriors 4 database provides the following information about Zhu
Rong:

"The wife of Meng Huo, King of Nanman. She is a descendent of the legendary
God of Fire, Zhu Rong. Very strong and skilled in the martial arts, her
trademark move is a deadly leaping slash attack. Stepping in for her husband,
she managed to capture Zhang Yi and Ma Zhong, but was caught herself by Wei Yan
and Ma Dai. A hostage exchange ensued, with both parties returning safely."
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
IV. Unlocking Zhu Rong
Approach Zhu Rong while fighting in the Nanman Campaign during either Shu's or
Wu's Musou Mode, and she will challenge you to a duel. Defeat her, and she'll
be unlocked once you clear Musou Mode.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
V. Using Zhu Rong
A. Zhu Rong's attacks
1. Regular attacks
S - A left-to-right slash.
SS - A right-to-left upward slash.
SSS - A high kick.
SSSS - A spinning slash.
SSSSS - A quicker spinning slash.
SSSSSS - A left-to-right slash.
X + S - A spinning slash.

2. Charge attacks
T(T) - Zhu Rong does a series of spinning kicks while balancing on one
hand. She'll do up to four kicks if you press T at the right time.
This attack doesn't gain elemental properties if you have an orb
           equipped.
ST - Zhu Rong throws her boomerang straight up, knocking enemies into the
           air.
SST(T) - Zhu Rong throws her boomerang straight ahead, hitting any enemies a
fair distance in front of her and stunning them with the last hit.
As your weapon levels up, you can do additional throws by pressing T
repeatedly. This attack doesn't gain elemental properties if you
           have an orb equipped.
SSST - Zhu Rong throws her boomerang in a circle, hitting all enemies
           around her.
SSSST(T) - Zhu Rong slashes upwards with her boomerang, knocking enemies high
into the air for a follow-up slash.
SSSSST - Zhu Rong leaps backwards and throws her boomerang straight ahead,
creating a tornado that sends any enemies in front of her flying.
X + T - Zhu Rong drives a point of her boomerang into the ground, knocking
           down all surrounding enemies.

3. Mounted attacks
S - The standard series of alternating left and right slashes.
T - Zhu Rong throws her boomerang around her horse's legs in a circle. One
of the better mounted charges in the game.
Musou - Zhu Rong throws her boomerang, which will circle her horse's legs and
        strike all surrounding enemies.

4. Other attacks
Dash attack - A lunging slash that hits to the front and right.
Counterattack - Zhu Rong throws her boomerang in a circle. Same as the T of
                her SSST combo, but unblockable.
Musou - Zhu Rong throws several darts/knives/energy bolts in a fan
pattern, and finishes up by spinning around and throwing
projectiles in all directions. Enemies that get hit by more
than one projectile at once will take vast amounts of damage.
True musou - Same as her regular musou, but adds a fire element and another
                spin attack.

B. Maximizing Zhu Rong's effectiveness
If you've played Dynasty Warriors 3, you probably have unfond memories of Zhu
Rong. She was slower than all of the other females, had pathetic reach, and
didn't have anywhere near enough power to compensate for her lack of speed. Her
musou hardly did any damage, and was difficult to juggle with. A lot of
people - including me - thought she was the worst character in the game.

The Zhu Rong from Dynasty Warriors 4, on the other hand, is a much stronger
contender. She has average speed and defense, above average attack power, and
a variety of charge attacks that can be devastating if used properly. Her T
combo is effective for getting large amounts of weapon experience from
generals, and also clears out small groups of peons fairly well. Her SSST
combo hits 360 degrees and can be executed quickly, making it ideal for wiping
out large crowds. Her SST(T), SSSST(T) and SSSSST combos work great against
generals. SSSSST can hit enemies in the back if you're close enough to them
when you use it, making it a blessing in duels. It also works well against
medium-sized groups of peons, who will have a hard time surrounding you before
you can complete the combo. Her musou works well against both groups and
individual enemies, but juggling with it is still quite difficult. Use it at
close range and in short bursts for maximum effect. An Ice Orb makes a good
accessory for Zhu Rong if you like to abuse her musou, but I prefer the Fire
Orb because of the ease with which she can keep her enemies in the air.

I recommend the following equipment for Zhu Rong:

Harness: Shadow Harness
Orb: Fire Orb
Items: Tiger Amulet, Tortoise Amulet, Elixir, Herbal Remedy/Way of Musou, Wind
Scroll

C. Zhu Rong's Musou Mode
The Nanman Musou Mode is the shortest in the game, but it can still be pretty
intense at times. If you get hopelessly stuck, try out these strategies.

1. The Nanman Campaign
The good news is that you no longer have to worry about taking damage from the
poison swamps. The bad news is that Shu can still make several of your allies
defect if you give them the chance. Prevent them from doing so by heading
north and taking care of Zhang Bao and Zhang Yi, then continuing north for Wang
Ping and Wei Yan. Ma Su should be your next target; head up the north central
path to reach him, and take out Pang Tong if he gets in your way. Huang Zhong
and his subordinates should be nearby. Defeat them all and head southwest for
Ma Chao. Ma Dai and Lu Kai should be near your starting position, and the
poison swamps should have softened them up. Finish them off and head straight
for Zhuge Liang's encampment. He'll try to retreat if all of his allies are
defeated, so be ready to cut him off if you take out Zhao Yun and Guan Suo
first.

2. Battle of Jian Ye
After a little trip down the river, you'll find yourself in the Wu capital of
Jian Ye. First, head south and dispatch Jiang Qin, then go for Sun Shao in the
east or Ding Feng in the west. Head south for Zhou Tai (if you went east) or
Taishi Ci (if you went west), and try to avoid killing the fake Sun Jians as
you advance. If you do, loop back around to the north and stop Zhuge Jin from
doing too much damage to your main camp. After defeating Taishi Ci/Zhou Tai,
go for the real Sun Jian. Once Sun Ce assumes command of the Wu army, head for
the central part of the battlefield. Cheng Pu, Zhou Tai/Taishi Ci, and Sun Ce
should all be gathered there. Kill them all, then hunt down Sun Quan, who
should be on the western side of the battlefield. Sun Shang Xiang will be the
only general left by the time she gains control of the army. Wipe her out to
put an end to the Sun family and the kingdom of Wu.

Nickolas Makris ([email protected]) has another strategy for this
battle:

"This is mostly a list of officers to kill in an order
for some good effectiveness.

Kill Jiang Qin

Kill Sun Jian (he loses morale with each death)

Kill Zhuge Jin or Sun Jian, but get them both.
Now you can either go left or right, I go left. (If
you went right, do this in the opposite order.)

Kill Ding Feng and Sun Jian, Sometimes Zhu Ran will
be here too.

Go to the middle area take out Zhu Ran and Xu Sheng,
Sometimes the Sun Jian on the right is here too.

Go up and take Sun Shao, Sun Jian if he's there.

Now I usually take out Taishi Ci because he is in
trouble from one of my allies. (Again, if you went
right its Zhou Tai)

Now the castle is open, I usually go take out Sun
Jian (again, finally) and If you killed him several
times, he's down to one or two stars.

Then Sun Ce takes command; kill Zhou Tai (or Taishi
Ci) in response. If you're low on life a refillable
Sun Life Capsule is here (Sun Quan or SSX)

Take out Cheng Pu and Sun Ce if you can lure him to
the ten-second musou it will be fun if you can't wait
for SSX.

By now Sun Quan should be the Wu Avatar, if you
killed him, he is where Sun Shao was, if not where
Taishi Ci was.

Then SSX becomes the Wu commander, if you killed her,
she is right next to the gate where in the middle
castle. If you didn't use the ten-second musou on Sun
Ce, this is the time."

3. Battle of Xu Chang
You're not far from home now, but there's another pesky kingdom in your way.
Begin by heading east and getting rid of Cao Xiu and Cao Zhen. Head north for
Hu Zhi, then go west to kill Cao Hong and backtrack a little for Xiahou Dun.
Mop up the remaining peons to ensure that the siege ramp won't be destroyed,
and then head west, cut down Man Chong, and defeat Cao Zhang and Xu Zhu to save
the outpost. At this point, you should decide whether you want to complete the
battle quickly or thoroughly. If you want to be quick, enter the castle via
the siege ramp and work your way east past Sima Zhao and Sima Yi. If you want
to be thorough, eliminate Jia Kui and his reinforcements when they arrive,
enter through the castle's southeast gate, and cut your way north through Cao
Pi and his forces. Both roads lead to Cao Cao; kill him to finish the battle
and seal Wei's fate.

4. Battle of Cheng Du
It's time to teach those upstarts from Shu what happens to those who invade the
Nanman lands! Immediately head east and defeat Yong Kai to make Zhu Bao
defect, then go north and take care of Ma Dai. Head west and defeat either
Guan Suo or Guan Xing to open Luo Castle's gates, then kill Ma Su to capture
the castle. Head south and eliminate Zhao Yun and Zhang Bao to clear a path
for your forces. Go west, cutting your way through Wang Ping and Li Kan, and
follow the southernmost path to reach Yue Ying. I recommend avoiding the jug-
gernauts on the path, but if you want to have some fun, use your musou on one
of them at point-blank range and watch how quickly its life meter drops. Ma
Chao should appear and start attacking Luo Castle by the time you dispatch Yue
Ying; hurry east and kill him before he reaches Meng Huo. Head west through the
forest, wiping out any ambush parties that harass you. Once you're out of the
forest, take out Jiang Wei and Zhuge Liang and punish Liu Bei and his kingdom
for their campaign against you. Revenge never tasted so sweet.

Nickolas Makris ([email protected]) has another strategy for this
battle, as well:

"Kill Ma Dai fast, you don't want problems in the H.Q.

Get Zhu Bao to defect, an extra ally is always
helpful.

Kill Zhang Bao, so Zhu Rong's morale won't drop
constantly.

LEAVE LUO CASTLE ALONE if you don't all the ambush
parties will appear and Shu morale will go up like
crazy and you have no chance.

Take care of Wang Ping or he'll mop up your troops.
Then if you feel the need take care of Zhao Yun now,
but I keep him alive for my troops to deal with so I
can take care of Yue Ying and not worry.

Kill Li Dian, then Yue Ying. DON'T GO INTO CHENG DU
YET!! If you do Liu Bei will pop up and so will Guan
Yu.

Now if you didn't off Zhao Yun do it now and take Luo
Castle.

Go into Main Zhu forests and kill any sub-officers you
find, leave the troops for your generals to take care
of.

Make sure you kill Guan Yu, Liu Bei has enough
powerful allies, and he doesn't need another.

At Cheng Du try not to engage Liu Bei or he'll follow
you as you try to kill Jiang Wei, Zhuge Liang is only
a stone's throw away.

By this time Ma Chao has appeared, leave him alone
until it's only him and Liu Bei, (your troops can't
kill him if they tried)

At leisure take out Ma Chao, then Liu Bei. Killing
Liu Bei might be a problem since all your troops and
generals now are knocking at his door, but you'll get
it done, (I spent five minutes trying to get the
bugger into a combo just to have an elephant knock him
out of my way)."

VI. Zhu Rong's Weapons
A. Weapon progression
Lv. 1-3 Lv. 4-6 Lv. 7-9 Lv. 10
Boomerang -----> Spitfire -----> Magma Wheel -----> Inferno

B. Zhu Rong's 10th-level weapon
Inferno (Attack +53)
Where To Get It: The Battle of Xu Chang, Nanman side
How To Get It: When the siege ramp arrives, protect it until it is successfully
set up. Defeat Man Chong, Cao Hong, Xiahou Dun, and Cao Zhang in any order to
receive the weapon message. These requirements must be met before Jia Kui's
reinforcements arrive.
How I Did It: I started by heading north and taking out Man Chong, then
continuing north for Sima Zhao. The siege ramp arrived right before I finished
off Sima Zhao, so I hurried southeast and wiped out Cao Hong and the myriad
peons that were attacking it. Once the ramp was up, I headed east for Xiahou
Dun and Hu Zhi, then doubled back to protect the outpost. It fell before I
could reach it, but I killed Cao Zhang and Xu Zhu before they got to Meng Huo.
I received the 10th-level weapon message and headed south to take care of Jia
Kui, who had just arrived as reinforcements. I then headed northeast to save
Meng Huo from Cao Xiu and Cao Zhen, who had advanced west. I cleared out all
of the peons around him before using the siege ramp to enter the castle. I
bolted east, slew Sima Yi, and cut down Cao Cao to finish the battle. My total
time was just under 20 minutes.

If you use a different strategy, be sure you keep Meng Huo out of danger. He
has a bad habit of getting killed if he gets overwhelmed, and that can happen
fairly easily when you're trying to protect both the siege ramp and the western
outpost. I almost lost the siege ramp by killing Sima Zhao at the beginning of
the battle, but I might have also prevented Meng Huo from getting overwhelmed
when the outpost fell and Jia Kui arrived. If you have powerful bodyguards or
a second player, you might want to let them protect Meng Huo while you handle
the enemy generals.

VIII. Questions & Answers
Q: Why a Zhu Rong FAQ?
A: It hadn't been done yet, and I wanted to share with my fellow gamers just
how much she's improved since Dynasty Warriors 3. Really.

Q: Zhu Rong's still as sucky as she was in Dynasty Warriors 3.
A: That's not a question, and it's blatantly untrue. She's speedier, her musou
is faster and more damaging, and she's figured out that her boomerang will come
back to her if she throws it.

Q: Zhu Rong talks like a hick.
A: Maybe so, but she's got the intelligence and the wits to keep her husband
wrapped around her finger. That counts for something, doesn't it?

Q: I fulfilled the requirements to obtain Zhu Rong's 10th-level weapon, but I
didn't get it! What gives?
A: Make sure that you have her 9th-level weapon, that you're playing on Hard,
and that you personally defeat all of the required generals.

Q: Your FAQ sucks! I've crapped out better FAQs than this!
A: As soon as you find a way to upload excrement, you should post your wondrous
creation for all to see.

Q: I posted my FAQ, and every gamer on the planet thinks it's better than
yours! Your FAQ really DOES suck!
A: Congratulations! I am in awe of your superior FAQ-writing skills! Now go
away.

Q: This is the best FAQ I've ever read! You're a genius and a god among men,
and I want to know more about you so that I can immortalize you!
A: Yeah; I get that a lot. My contact info's listed below.

Q: <insert some question that has nothing to do with Zhu Rong or the FAQ here>
A: See the second sentence of my previous answer.
