Don't you just LOVE it when I do this?

Forelli_Boy Presents:
The (Burnout) Virgin's Guide to Dominating
Version Zero.B

Were you expecting some distracting ASCII art?
Let's just get to the good stuff already! :3

But first, a word from our sponsor, the virtual attorney.

+ +

This guide is INCOMPLETE. Okay? It's not done yet. This guide also only covers
the PS2 version. If it also covers the PSP version too, then I'll check if and
when I get the PSP version, mmkay? So please don't whine. (:

Burnout, Dominator, and all other trademarks in that series are registered to

I cannot and WILL NOT take or accept any responsiblity if you are STUPID enough
to try the driving stunts from this game in real life.

Introduction
------------
Do you love dominating? Do you enjoy parties that involve pinning your friends
to the wall with your rubbing, shunting and slamming before enjoying their
humiliation? Do you then scream in pleasure while your friends squeal in pain?

If so, then you're a sick fetishist freak that needs immediate psychological and
spiritual help and some sunlight to heal those chain and leather chafes.

That is, of course, unless you're talking purely about virtual automotive
domination in Burnout, in which case this game is just for you. The kind people
at EA have gone back to basics with this one. No more launching your car through
a crowded marketplace like a terrorist, this time it's back to the Burnout
essentials.

Namely, rubbing, shunting and slamming your helpless friends into a wall (or
conveniently-placed traffic) and enjoying watching them squeal as they
submit...in a blaze of fire and twisted metal.

If you've gotten through that last paragraph without thinking of BDSM, then God
has the red carpet rolled out and the champagne cooled just for you at the
Pearly Gates. Congratulations! (:

+===================+
| Race Explanations | [RAEX]
+===================+

+-------------------+
| Burnout Challenge | [REBC]
+-------------------+
The biggest comeback to the Burnout series is the titular element - the Burnout.
Making a Burnout was easy to do in previous games, you simply had to charge your
meter all the way up and then use it all up in one shot. If you could make a
Burnout your bar was instantly refilled and you could go for another, and so on
until you formed a formidable chain.

The mechanics are altered for Domination but the essentials are the same. You
have to fully charge your Burnout bar by driving like a maniac, i.e. driving on
the opposite lane, very close to traffic and drifting. You can also earn boost
by trying to run your opponents off the road, though you can LOSE boost if they
can hit you.

The boost bar will turn "Supercharged" blue once it's properly filled, after
which you can initiate your burnout. In order to go for a chain, you must
continue to drive like a "Maniac" and fill up the yellow bars behind the flame,
all the way to the end (they'll start blinking if you've done it right), and you
must repeat this for every consecutive Burnout. Also, if you boost while your
bar is not "Supercharged," it will NOT be refilled while driving like a maniac.

For Burnout Challenges, you will earn:
 - 1,000 for a single isolated Burnout.
 - 2,000 for the first in a Burnout Chain,
which will be incremented by 1,000 for each succeeding chained Burnout.
   Example: 4x Burnout = 2,000 + 3,000 + 4,000 + 5,000 = 14,000

For other points challenges, each completed chained burnout will increase your
bonus multiplier by 1X. Example: 4x Burnout = 5x Bonus Multiplier.

If you crash, your chain will be reset.

+-------------+
| Burning Lap | [REBL]
+-------------+
Every so often you'll unlock "Preview" events which consist of you trying to lap
a course within a certain amount of time in the Dominator Class car you will
unlock in that series. Like in Gran Turismo, you will be awarded medals based on
how fast you complete each lap. Thus, you WILL want to avoid crashes as much as
possible and maximize your boosting opportunities.

But while each Burning Lap's time limit gets even more stringent, the ideal
strategy is NOT to go for an entire boosted and chained Burnout lap. Try to lay
off the boost when entering areas with heavy traffic or tight or blind curves.
If the road is empty (e.g. the coastal drive in Ocean Drive), go for it!

+------------------------------+
| Near Miss & Drift Challenges | [RENM]
+------------------------------+
I've lumped these two challenges together because they're essentially the same.
BOTH involve using only a small portion and no more than a lap around a certain
track trying to score enough points to win a medal. Burnout chains will also
multiply the points you score.

The only difference is which mode of "maniac" driving you'll use to earn points.

For Near Miss challenges, you'll have to drive as close as you can to traffic.
You'll earn 50 points for near-missing "going" traffic and near-missing "coming"
traffic at a low speed or from afar. You'll get 100 points for driving close
to "coming" traffic at high speed.

Drift Challenges involve sweeping sections of a track, and simply involve you
drifting as much as you can to beat the medal scores. You'll get more points
for drifting faster and at a steeper angle. The general rule is approximately
1 point for every 1.5-2 feet drifted, though.

+--------+
| Maniac | [REMA]
+--------+
This is a combination of the Burnout, Near Miss and Drift Challenges into
a single brand-new mode that emphasizes crazy driving. You'll need to be a super
special awesome driver to max out your point totals here, but to be fair, many
of the later races give you TWO laps to try to earn gold, which you'll find out
later may not be enough. Remember, burnout chains are key!

+------------+
| Eliminator | [RELM]
+------------+
The Dominator incarnation of the Eliminator works the same as it does in
Revenge. Instead of each contestant being eliminated after each lap - there are
now 6 competitors and each track can be 2 minutes long! - there's a 30 second
timer that runs out before each elimination. Think of it as a reverse Royal
Rumble. Burnout, takedown, do whatever you like to win, but...

...the basic principle remains the same: DON'T FINISH LAST.

So, in the words of the boys from MXC: "Don't Get Eliminated!"

+-----------+
| Road Rage | [RERR]
+-----------+
This is the game mode that won my little bro media exposure in a local video
gaming magazine. This mode is simple: Takedown as many cars as you can before
you get totalled. There are several kinds of Takedowns:

Wall Takedown - Easy. Send your opponent careening into a wall or divider.
Traffic Takedown - Comes in several sub-varieties depending on what kind of
                   traffic your opponent crashes into.
Takedown - Simply catch your opponent's car unawares. Rarer than it sounds.
Psyche Out! - "Scare" the AI into crashing. Just stay close and hound the guy
but don't hit him too much. He likes that.
Vertical Takedown - Also known as "Death From Above" and is supposed to use
ramps. The best opportunity on a standard track would be
the runup to the huge arch at the entrance to the town
                    on the Tuscan Tracks.

+------+
| Race | [RERA]
+------+
Here we go, a plain, normal race to the finish. Sometimes this regular races
have a twist: one car will be marked with a bright yellow marker that reads
"Rival." Take down that Rival enough times to get something nice.

+------------+
| Grand Prix | [REGP]
+------------+
A Grand Prix is a series of regular Races, and the apparent objective is to
earn gold. After each race, you'll get a number of points which will be tallied
up in the final total to determine your medal:

1st - 6
2nd - 4
3rd - 3
4th - 2
5th - 1
6th - 0

Oh, and if you restart, you'll have to start from the BEGINNING of the series.

+-------------------------+
| Dominator Points System | [REDP]
+-------------------------+
After finishing a race, you'll earn Dominator Points based on the achievements
you've earned during the race. Also, you can restart once you "finish" a race
(i.e. the finishing stats screen shows) unless you've earned something major
such as a car or a trophy.

Restarting DURING a race will nullify all achievements since your last finish.

Bronze Medal 25
Silver Medal 50
Gold Medal 75
Note: You'll win DP based on which medal is registered for the race.
Namely, the number of total points you can accumulate from one event
will be incremented if you win higher medals, and max out at gold 75.

Unlock a Car 30
Trophy Award 20
Signature Shortcut 50

Trophy Completion:
Rookie/Reckless 100
Maniac/Fearless 200

(Remaining Trophy achievements coming soon.)

At 25% and 75%, you'll unlock "Menu Damage," which is worth zero DP but has an
interesting if not purely cosmetic effect on the game menu screens.

+============+
| World Tour | [WOTO]
+============+

Players can unlock any of the next set of stages by completing ANY one of the
events in the set before it. For the regular series, Event 13 - the Dominator
Challenge - is still unlocked by winning all four cars in its respective series.

             4 6 8 10

1 - - - - - - 12

The Dominator series has only 10 events:

    2 4 6
1 - - - - 8 - 9 - 10
    3 5 7

To open up a certain class, players will have to earn the following number of
Dominator points, either through World Tour or Record Breaker events:

Factory 500
Tuner 1,200
Hotrod 2,000
Super 3,000

| E-MAIL POLICY | [EMAP]
+===============+

E-mail me if...AND ONLY IF...

- You have tips and strategies for races et al. ALREADY INCLUDED IN THE
CURRENT VERSION OF THE GUIDE. I cannot stress this enough.
- I typoed or made errors in grammar. And don't insult my intelligence about it,
these things happen when you're currently living in a country with a severe
national brain drain AND you've spent an assload of man-hours on a guide this
  detailed.
- You have a sensible suggestion as to how to improve/add on to the guide.
- You want to publish, link to or copy this FAQ to a CREDIBLE
  publication or website.

DO NOT E-MAIL ME WITH THE FOLLOWING QUESTIONS:
- Q: How do I unlock the ___________?
A: It says what you unlock in the World Tour Section.
Data will also be added to the Cars section later on.

- Q: How do I open event #XX?
A: Check the Event Progression Bars at the top of the World Tour section.

- Q: How do I Burnout?
  A: See the Burnout section.

- Q: Where's Crash Mode!?
A: There isn't any. Now shut up. n.=.n

Flames and anything of THAT sort (ESPECIALLY regarding the connotations of
"dominating" among others), even as much as insults planted in otherwise
credible solutions will result in you being BLOCKED. The latter instance will be
the ONLY time I may add your info WITHOUT crediting you. If you ask one of the
questions above, I'll delete it without replying but I won't block you the first
time.

And as a new policy, PLEASE say in the SUBJECT TITLE which part of the game
you're asking for help/making suggestions for. It'll make dealing with these
messages - and coming back for them in case of reference - a lot easier.

Examples: "Burnout Dominator - Classic Events"
           "Dominator Trophy Question"
          ...and so on.

Djen kuje.

That all being said...

| Special Thanks To... | [SPTT]
+======================+
Me, for bothering to use up all my spare time to gather the data for the guide.
My bros Vince and Matt, for being such devoted Burnout fans.
My PS2, for bearing through the entire process.
All the sites who have hosted my guides.
Criterion Games, because even though Dominator doesn't have Crash, the return
of the Burnout mode means I won't miss it.
Everyone who's gotten informed from my guides. Thank you so much.

The people who think I could be out there improving the world instead of
wasting fossil fuels by writing this guide. We should've crushed you
           greenies and pinkos years ago!
Electronic Arts, for subjecting exotic cars to the ricing process in
Need For Speed: Most Wanted and Carbon.
Avril Lavigne, because she's Avril Lavigne, dammit.
