Blood Will Tell: Tezuka Osamu's Dororo
Spoiler-free walkthrough
By Sovios Falchion Romantic (AKA Da_Great_SoFaRo)

(What can I say? I didn't feel like doing an ASCII of this game's name.)

TABLE OF CONTENTS: To jump to the section you want, use your browser/word
processor's Find or Search command (on MS Word, MSIE, and Semware's QEdit, it's
Ctrl-F). Then, type in the section number you need, such as F-FF (not a real
section number). To jump back here, use Find and type in 0-00. (Alternately, you
could just hit Ctrl-Home in Word and Notepad, or Ctrl-Page Up in QEdit.)

~ This is the whole "before you begin" crap that everyone has to put into ~~~~~~

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
========================= 0-01: Before you get started =========================
Read this for the basics.
================================================================================
'Sup? I'm Sovios, and DON'T CALL ME JIMMY DEAN! (Inside joke, sorry.) Umm,
there's not much to say here, since I already told you how to use the Table of
Contents. So, let's just dive right in!
Well, I guess I should mention the boss strategies. I indent them two spaces,
and they look something like this:
  Hidden 49th Fiend: Reagan, Lv. 66
  Location: Go down to Hell and take a left at Beelzebub's quarters.
  He's pretty tough, despite his gentle appearance. Don't turn your back on him
  for a second. He possesses a sort of nuclear Apocalypse attack, which he won't
  hesitate to use on you, because he thinks it's his religious duty.
Obviously, there's no boss called Reagan, but I'm pretty sure my example made my
point. If it's a Hidden Fiend (meaning a Fiend that doesn't really matter to the
storyline), the word "Hidden" will appear before its number. "Lv." indicates the
Fiend's level; if its level is higher than that of your weapons, it will take
longer to defeat said Fiend. (Speaking of levels, the arm-blades level up as you
use them, but the swords' levels only increase by obtaining stronger swords.)
"Location" only applies to the hidden fiends; the locations of storyline fiends
are implied on your map by the flashing yellow arrows and the glowing white dot.
In addition, the location heading tells you how to get the Fiend to come out and
play; very rarely does a fiend appear just because you entered an area. If I
don't list a number for a fiend, it's because either (A) the fiend doesn't have
a number, or (B) I forgot what the number was (I didn't really start numbering
them until I got to Chapter 3). That's basically it.
Well, actually, when I make a reference to "Chapter x", when x is a number, I'm
referring to chapter 1, section x; however, when I refer to "chapter x", I'm
referring to that chapter of the walkthrough. It's a little confusing, I admit,
but you'll get used to it.
================================ 0-02: Controls ================================
This is an action game, so I felt it might help for you to know the controls.
================================================================================
The controls are basically the same for both modes, so I'll only list the ones
for Type A.
++HYAKKIMARU++
Left Stick: Move
Right Stick: Look around
L1: Focus camera behind Hyakki, (Hold) Lock-on
L2: Change weapons (Arm-blades/sword)
L3 (click the left stick): Dash (only after recovering left leg)
R1: Fire machine gun (only with arm-blades out)
R2: (Hold) Aim cannon
R3 (click the right stick): Turn off boss camera
Triangle: Heavy attack, (Hold) charge for Slice Attack, (Hold R2) fire cannon
Square: Light attack
Circle: Give Dororo orders (if together), get hints (when solo)
X: Jump (press twice for double-jump)
Start: Bring up pause menu
Select: Not used
++DORORO++
Basically, Dororo's controls are the same as Hyakki's, with a few exceptions.
Also, if you have a friend handy, he or she can control Dororo while you play.
Left Stick: Move
Right Stick: Look around
L1: Focus camera behind Dororo, (Hold) Lock-on
L2: Not used
L3: Dash (can be done at any time)
R1: Throw item (short-range)
R2: Throw item (long-range)
R3: Turn off boss camera
Triangle: Heavy attack (when pressed first in a combo it is just an uppercut)
Square: Light attack
Circle: Get hint (when solo), Dash to Hyakki (when playing two-player)
X: Jump (press twice for double-jump)
Start: Bring up pause menu (only when solo)
Select: Not used
=============================== 0-03: Legal crap ===============================
Yeah, you need this.
================================================================================
First off: Do not, under any circumstances, plagiarize my guide. If you do, I
shall track you down and cut off your balls. Or, if you happen to be female, I
shall attach balls to your person, so that you too shall suffer the indignity
and excruciating pain of being kicked in the nuts.
Secondly, you may not post this guide on your site without permission. If you
want to, just e-mail me the URL and I'll happily oblige you, provided your site
is not one of those that has in the past stolen the guides of other writers.
You know who you are. The latest version may always be obtained from the
============================= 0-04: Contacting me ==============================
I don't see why you'd wanna, but...
================================================================================
My e-mail address is:
s_falchion_romantic AT yahoo DOT com
If you have anything you wish to send me, such as criticism, tips, or whatever
else floats your boat, feel free to e-mail me with the subject "Blood Will Tell"
or something similar. However, there are some rules:
1) All criticism must be CONSTRUCTIVE! In other words, if you feel my guide
   sucks, tell me why and how I can improve it. Okay?
2) Use proper English. If I get an e-mail that is full of Ebonics and/or AOL-
   speak, I will delete it, block your address, and if I'm in a particularly
   bad mood that day I'll send you whatever virus my computer is currently
   infected with. You have been warned! But, 1337 is OK, because I can sort of
   understand it. Just don't go overboard.
3) Don't try to convert me to Christ. I'm a devout agnostic, and proud of it.
   It's never happened before, but I just wanna get it out on the table now
   before those damn evangelists (AKA "the Louies") come along and try to
   convert me. If you do try to convert me I will send you a computer virus
   that forces your computer to play nothing but Slipknot's "The Heretic
   Anthem" and the Marilyn Manson version of "Personal Jesus." Again, YOU HAVE
   BEEN WARNED!
4) This sort of goes along with "use proper English", but not really. While I
   can sort of speak Spanish, I only know words that pertain to stuff like
   windsurfing, train stations, medical emergencies, etc., so please please
   PLEASE use English. Okay? You won't be penalized for using other languages,
   but I won't be able to answer your question. (El wind surf no esta bien!)
5) Don't try to sell me anything, date me, etc. If you do I will block your
   address. Yes, I know I'm too sexy to ignore, but... :)
6) Be polite. Telling someone "Help me out or I'll track you down and kill
   you" isn't gonna make you any friends, and it won't make me any more likely
   to help you. I will answer all e-mails in time, as I don't get that many
   anyway.
7) If you wish to debate politics with me, be polite and concise, and make
   every effort to use actual, objective facts. This means no quoting Rush
   Limbaugh, Sean Hannity, Ann Coulter, Michael Savage, Bill O'Reilly, etc.,
   as they generally just blame liberals instead of using facts. Also, it means
   no quoting, say, the Tobacco Institute on whether or not smoking causes
   cancer, nicotine is addictive, etc. Those statements are financially
   motivated, and thus are most likely untrue.
By the way, I don't use AIM or message boards, so e-mailing me is probably
your best bet. But be sure to read the FAQ (once I get some content for it) so
that you don't ask me something already answered in the guide. If I get your e-
mail, and it's something not already covered, I will definitely reply, so if
you don't get a reply and I've never covered your question, blame it on my
stepmother and her thrice damned parental controls.
================================ 0-05: Glossary ================================
It's a list of terms that you may be unfamiliar with and their meanings.
================================================================================
Umm, I guess I used ordinary English for this guide. If you have any suggestions
as to words whose meanings I should clarify here, please e-mail them to me.
================================= 0-06: Moves ==================================
These are TOP SECRET tricks of the trade, beeyatch!
================================================================================
For this section, I will only mention the moves not performed by simply tapping
out a sequence of Square and Triangle presses, as they are the only moves I have
named. (Besides, Hyakki's best combo involves pressing Square six times and
Triangle three times, although you need most of his body parts for this.) I'll
just list the names of the buttons, rather than the type of attack, to use, as
the different button configurations only affect the L1 and L2 buttons. That's
pretty cheap, if you ask me, but they might have run out of room on the disc for
anything else; making buttons customizable does involve a lot of code. Anyway,
the "Combo:" heading indicates the button sequence used to perform this attack.
(I'm assuming you left the Dash ability on the L3 button, instead of changing it
to the inferior "double-tap left stick to dash" setting.)
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ HYAKKIMARU ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
My Name: Helicopter
Technical: Jumping light attack
Combo: X + Square
Description: Hyakki spins around with his blades out, like a helicopter. Works
             only with the arm-blades.
My Name: Screw Attack
Technical: Jumping heavy attack
Combo: X + Triangle
Description: Hyakki performs a forward-spinning slash attack, resembling Samus'
             Screw Attack from the Metroid games. Works only with the arm-
             blades.
My Name: Brandish
Technical: Jumping light attack (x3)
Combo: X + Square + Square + Square
Description: Hyakki slashes three times in a rather stylish fashion. Works only
             with a sword.
My Name: Sweep
Technical: Jumping heavy attack
Combo: X + Triangle
Description: Hyakki sweeps his sword gracefully through the air in a sort of
             helix shape. Works only with a sword.
My Name: Slide
Technical: Dashing light attack
Combo: L3 + Square
Description: Hyakki, well, slides, stabbing anything in front of him at the end
             of his slide.
My Name: Lunge
Technical: Dashing heavy attack
Combo: L3 + Triangle
Description: Hyakki jumps in the air and slams his blade(s) into the ground as
             he comes down, hitting all enemies within a step of the slam.
My Name: (varies; see chapter 3, section 3)
Technical: Spirit Attack
Combo: Square + Triangle
Description: (varies; see chapter 3, section 3) Basically, this is the game's
             equivalent of magic.
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ DORORO ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
My Name: Tackle
Technical: Dashing attack
Combo: L3 + Square or L3 + Triangle
Description: Dororo tackles an enemy, stunning it.
My Name: Stomp
Technical: Jumping attack
Combo: X + Square or X + Triangle
Description: Dororo jumps up and stomps on something.
My Name: Scream
Technical: Loud Yell
Combo: Square + Triangle
Description: Dororo charges up and yells, stunning all nearby enemies. Only
             works while Dororo is low on HP.
My Name: Mini-Tackle
Technical: Dive Attack
Combo: Square, Square, Square, Triangle
Description: Okay, so maybe it's a regular combo, but come on: Dororo gets
             basically no moves. Plus, it's useful for when you want to stun
             enemies without having to dash at them all the time.
As you can see, not enough is that special about these moves that I needed to
give them names; however, it's faster to type "Screw Attack" than "Jumping heavy
attack".
================================= 0-07: Items ==================================
You'll want to be familiar with these, as they can and will save your life.
================================================================================
Sometimes when you kill a demon or destroy a statue, you'll see something appear
from its remains. This is a list of all the various things that can appear.
Items marked as "useless to Dororo" means that Dororo will collect them and give
them to Hyakki when they are reunited. Dororo will also collect rice balls at
full HP, so don't pick them up at that time, as you cannot use collected items
later. Items marked as "useless to Hyakki" can only be collected and used by
Dororo.
Name: Rice Ball (Small)
Description: A steaming black-and-white triangle.
Effect: Restores some of Hyakki or Dororo's HP. Power depends upon Hyakki's
        Metabolism stat, but it usually refills about 1/4 of his max HP.
Name: Rice Ball (Large)
Description: Two small rice balls on a leaf.
Effect: Restores 4x as much HP as a small rice ball. Power depends upon Hyakki's
        Metabolism stat, but it usually refills HP completely.
Name: Red Gourd
Description: A glowing red gourd.
Effect: Temporarily increases Hyakki or Dororo's attack power. Cannot be
        collected for later use.
Name: Blue Gourd
Description: A glowing blue gourd.
Effect: Temporarily increases Hyakki or Dororo's defense. Cannot be collected
        for later use.
Name: Gold Gourd
Description: A glowing gold gourd.
Effect: Temporarily makes Hyakki or Dororo invincible. Cannot be collected for
        later use.
Name: Blue Candle
Description: A burning blue candle.
Effect: Increases Hyakki's Spirit Gauge slightly. Useless to Dororo.
Name: Red Candle
Description: A burning red candle.
Effect: Completely fills Hyakki's Spirit Gauge. Useless to Dororo.
Name: Arm Cannon Rounds x10
Description: A single bronze bullet.
Effect: Increases Hyakki's supply of machine gun bullets by 10. Useless to
        Dororo.
Name: Arm Cannon Rounds x20
Description: Two bronze bullets right next to each other.
Effect: Increases Hyakki's supply of machine gun bullets by 20. Useless to
        Dororo.
Name: Arm Cannon Rounds x30
Description: Three bronze bullets stacked in a pyramid shape.
Effect: Increases Hyakki's supply of machine gun bullets by 30. Useless to
        Dororo.
Name: Leg Cannon Round
Description: A big gray bullet.
Effect: Increases Hyakki's supply of leg cannon rounds by 1. Useless to Dororo.
Name: Jyukai's Medicine
Description: A small, floating green sphere.
Effect: Upon collecting 100 of these, Hyakki will be able to get back up once
        after losing all HP. Hyakki can carry up to three of these as his
        Regeneration stat increases. Useless to Dororo.
Name: (Sword; name varies)
Description: A sword.
Effect: Adds that sword to Hyakki's inventory. Useless to Dororo, oddly enough.
Name: (Spirit Scroll; name varies)
Description: A square with a picture on it.
Effect: Adds that Spirit Attack to Hyakki's repetoire. Useless to Dororo.
Name: Throwing Knife
Description: A ring with a short arm and a diamond at the end, like those seen
             on various ninja shows such as Naruto.
Effect: Damages enemies, and can stick into walls to form platforms for
        climbing. Useless to Hyakki.
Name: Poison Dart
Description: A cluster of arrows.
Effect: Damages enemies, sometimes killing them in one hit. Useless to Hyakki.
Name: Smoke Bomb
Description: A bomb.
Effect: Stuns enemies when thrown at them. Useless to Hyakki.
Name: Fire Bomb
Description: A bomb that looks different from the Smoke Bomb.
Effect: Damages enemies as much as a shot from Hyakki's leg cannon. Used in
        certain boss fights or puzzles. Useless to Hyakki.
Name: Max HP Up
Description: A floating heart.
Effect: Raises Dororo's max HP by 5. Useless to Hyakki. *
* These will not even appear when Hyakki is present.
============================= 0-08: Tips & Tricks ==============================
Yep.
================================================================================
Umm, I really don't have any, but what do you expect? Most of this game is so
simplistic (not necessarily easy, though) that you shouldn't need any fancy
tips; fight all the demons you encounter except golems, and if you get into
trouble, just use Hyakki's guns. If, however, you have any special tips to
contribute, feel free to send them in. Actually, there are three worth
mentioning, all pertaining to Dororo:
+ Whenever possible, try to kill any and all enemies you come across when
  playing as Dororo. This is because the buggers sometimes drop HP Max Ups,
  which, as their name implies, increase Dororo's max HP. Considering the fact
  that Dororo only starts with, like, 200 HP, you'll probably be wanting these.
+ Try to avoid using Dororo's throwing items, as they are usually needed for
  puzzle-solving. The only exceptions to this are the Rock (duh, you have
  unlimited rocks!) and the Poison Dart, which are not used for solving
  anything.
+ When Dororo collects an item, and you need it (while playing as Hyakki),
  simply walk up to Dororo and stand there for about half a second to receive
  it.
Here's one more:
+ To escape from a revisited level after defeating all the regular (as opposed
  to hidden) Fiends found therein, simply save and reset. Then, when you load
  the file and come to the continue menu, simply pick "Select Chapter".
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Chapter 1: The Walkthrough ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
~ This chapter is divided up into sections, with each section representing one ~
~ of the game's chapters. It was nice of them to divide the game up thusly, ~~~~
~ actually; it makes my job a hell of a lot easier :) This is also a pretty ~~~~
~ short game, despite being on the PS2. Of course, this is only the Story ~~~~~~
~ Mode... ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
=============================== 1-00: Hyakkimaru ===============================
As you may have guessed, this is the prologue; hence, the section number ends in
"00". By the way, you can't ever come back here, but since there are no hidden
Fiends, you won't need to.
================================================================================
This is the training stage. Here, you must learn to effectively use Hyakkimaru
(henceforth and forewith known as Hyakki) as a character. Jyukai will tell you
about the controls, in case you didn't read them in the Controls section. After
killing the demons, there will be only one way you can go, so go that way. After
a while you might encounter a stone statue. These can be destroyed, and hold
various items. Also, you may see a sort of umbrella thing standing in a pool of
light. These are save points; to use them, stand under one and press Start, then
select Save. After doing that, head forward to fight...
  1st Fiend: Great Horn, Lv. 3
  He's not too tough, as befits the game's first boss. Just go around behind
  him and attack until he turns around, then dodge whatever attack he throws at
  you. For winning, you get Hyakki's vocal cords back, and he can now converse
  with people without initially scaring them. (Those of you who read the
  instruction manual were probably expecting his eye, huh? Nope, not yet.)
After that battle, sally forth into another annihilation battle. After killing
the skeletons (it is against skeletons, right?), Dororo will join you. Continue
onward to eventually fight...
  2nd Fiend: Homunculus, Lv. ?
  He's not that difficult either, just run up and slash him until he drops
  Dororo. Then, he starts to be a little more powerful, but still nothing you
  can't handle by yourself. As the manual says, it is weak and can only bully
  someone inferior to itself. That's not you, is it? :) After defeating it, you
  regain Hyakki's left eye, and can now see the game in color. And that's it for
  the prologue! (What? No, this Homunculus has nothing to do with Fullmetal
  Alchemist...)
================================= 1-01: Yudai ==================================
Yudai? As in, "you die"? Interesting... and appropriate.
================================================================================
All right, you'll arrive at the Sengoku Riverside. Collect the spheres of
Jyukai's medicine, or have Dororo do it for you whilst you fight the demons that
appear. Yes, running past them is always an option, but killing them allows
Hyakki's arm-blades to level up, making them stronger. I thought I told you
that...
At any rate, continue onward. If you're feeling lucky, here's the first Hidden
Fiend's location:
  Hidden 19th Fiend: Dreameater, Lv. 10(?)
  Location: Slash at the roots of the big tree near the first waterfall, then
            use the tree as a bridge... just like it says in the instruction
            manual.
  Umm, don't lock-on, but instead run towards him, jumping over the blasts he
  fires, and slash the hell out of him. As he is one of the first Fiends you'll
  ever encounter, it is to be expected that he's not that difficult, despite his
  high level. He will start to teleport around after enough damage, though, so
  when he does that, you can try using the cannon or machine gun, or just try to
  conserve ammo (probably a good idea) and hit him with the arm-blades or your
  Spirit Attack. Don't use the sword, as it's definitely not strong enough for
  him. And, that's that! You've killed your first Hidden Fiend! Unfortunately,
  all you get for it is Hyakki's esophagus, which does nothing by itself...
  however, it is vital to getting bonuses from the other parts of the digestive
  system, so it's not totally useless.
Now, continue along the path until you reach some stairs. If you set Dororo's
orders to Search, you'll receive the ever-ambiguous message "Something's not
right!" at a certain point. When that happens, run up a few steps, then run and
jump back down. If done correctly, you'll land atop the awning covering the
stairs, and you'll be able to climb up a series of ledges with plant demons on
them to reach a plateau with tons of Jyukai's medicine. There's also a rock
covered in red stickers, but it doesn't do anything. Ever. Trust me. Anyway,
head back down to the stairs and continue along the path. You'll eventually
reach Yudai Village. Here, something will happen that results in you having to
fight...
  Fiend: Scourge, Lv. ?
  This thing's not easy to defeat. It's only safe to attack it from the side,
  but it rotates fairly often, so that's not easy. Watch out for the tail! This
  guy's tough, though, so I really can't advise you as to the proper strategy,
  as he's quite versatile. Oh, and did I mention that the well is overflowing?
  Try to avoid touching it, as it will hurt you.
After "defeating" the Scourge, Dororo will decide to follow it. That's just
brilliant, kid. Well, whatever. Go into the crawlspace and dodge the hazards
once you come out. Then, you'll arrive at a room with a chasm in the middle of
it and a sword floating above it. Hit the thing sticking up from the floor, and
jump across the platfors that appear, making sure to pick up the sword. If you
fall down, you'll be returned to the side from whence you last started jumping
across (in other words, if you reach the other side and decide to go back for
whatever reason, but fall, you'll return to the other side). Continue onward to
reach a room full of enemies. They're pretty easy, though, so just kill them to
activate the elevator (weird-looking shelves). Get in to be brought up to
Yudai's room, where you should check behind the screen to receive a Max HP Up.
Then, just head out. Dororo will be abducted by the villagers, and control will
switch back to Hyakki.
As Hyakki, head over to the rock covering the entrance and slash it, then go out
of the room. You'll arrive back in the village. Imagine that. Now, go around
behind Yudai's manor's wall and enter the bamboo thicket. In here, it's pretty
cool-- you can slash the bamboo trees in the path area and they'll fall down.
It's little details like this (among other things) that separate the good games
from the great. Also, you can do this to other small trees in later chapters;
remember that. Anyway, Hyakki will have to follow the Troll, so fight any
enemies that get in your way while doing so. You'll eventually come to a place
with a spot of shiny ground. Now, you'll be back in the village, where it's time
to save Dororo, so run toward the spot on your map, breaking with tradition just
this once by not fighting any enemies on the way. Upon arriving there, Hyakki
will save Dororo and tell the villagers about the bamboo thicket. Lead them back
to the shiny spot. (I recommend that you don't explore the thicket just yet, as
there are some strong enemies in other regions, and not much you can do here yet
anyway.) At the shiny spot, you'll have to fight...
  Fiend: Hellcrusher, Lv. 5(?)
  He's not easy, but he's not really hard either. Just be sure to stay on your
  toes when you fight him. I forget the exact strategy I used, but it's pretty
  basic stuff. Once you beat him, you get Hyakki's ???
Afterwards, you'll have to head back to the village. I forget exactly what you
have to do there, though-- no, wait, I remember. Dororo will have to sneak in
again, but not through the well this time-- I think. Anyway, head up to Yudai's
bedroom, fighting any enemies you may encounter en route (but that's a given).
You'll find something or other, possibly a key, which opens one of the doors
downstairs. Go in to find a bag of money. Now, grab the smoke bombs and equip
them, then go upstairs. Remember the room with the guard in it? Throw a smoke
bomb at him to knock him out, then go in. You'll probably recover another key.
Go back downstairs and open the other door, then grab the arrow. That should be
about it. (I'm sorry if this part's unwontedly vague, but I'm doing this from
memory.) Eventually, you may have to head back to the shiny spot in the Ancient
Bamboo Thicket again to fight...
  Fiend: Scourge, Lv. ?
  Basically, it's the same fight in a different location. Oh, and there's no
  well to worry about. Other than that, it's nothing you haven't seen before.
Now, head back into the village and enter Yudai's manor. In here, there will be
some enemies. If you're good, you can kill them without losing much HP; however,
you're probably not that good yet, so just run past them up to Yudai's bedroom.
Upon reaching it, you'll have to fight...
  Fiend: Ogress, Lv. 6(?)
  She's pretty tough, until you notice her weakness: all of her attacks leave
  her vulnerable for a moment, allowing you to either attack or retreat to
  safety, depending on the attack used. When she starts to glow orange, she's
  about to use her flame kick, so get out of there; however, when she starts to
  glow yellow (only when you're far away), she's about to shoot lightning, so
  get to one side of her outstretched hand and hack away at her. Eventually,
  she'll start to fly away and land on top of the tower. Now would be a good
  time to turn off the boss camera (press R3-- click the right joystick) and
  fight the enemies she summons-- just watch out for her beam attack, which
  works kind of like Valefor's Energy Ray in FFX: it lances into the ground,
  cutting a line into it, and a wave of energy explodes from said ground.
  Anyway, the machine gun and cannon are too slow for this fight, so just stick
  with the arm-blades. Once you defeat her, Hyakki recovers his left leg,
  allowing him to dash when you press L3 (click the left joystick). And that's
  the end of that chapter.
All right, there are still some Fiends hidden here (hence the title "Hidden
Fiend"), so go back in and head back to Yudai Village (stopping at the stairs to
collect the spheres of Jyukai's medicine hidden above once more). Once you enter
the village, you'll be able to easily reach the first Fiend's location:
  Hidden Fiend: Grave Golem, Lv. ?
  Location: In the cemetery in the lower-right corner of the map, destroy all
            the gravestones. (You can slash them.)
  He's pretty tough, but not really tough. Try to get behind him to attack if at
  all possible, so he can't target you with his fireball attack. Watch out when
  he turns red, as that means he's about to charge at you. When he's about to
  use his fireball, orange sparks will start to flow into the tentacles on his
  head, so be careful. When you defeat him, you get Hyakki's ???
Now, just head north a bit to reach the next Fiend.
  Hidden Fiend: Inquisitor, Lv. ?
  Location: In the shrine located to the right of Yudai's Manor, there will be a
            lantern that's glowing. Destroy it with a shot from the cannon-- you
            can't slash it.
  He's really tough, so you'll probably die a few times before you get the hang
  of things. He has only three attacks, so you might think he'd be easy at
  first, but you'd be dead wrong. His first attack corresponds to his red face:
  he simply shoots a flame-thrower from the red face's mouth as he rotates in a
  circle. Then, he goes into his yellow face's attack: running around the area
  while shooting bombs from the top of his head. After that comes his blue-face
  attack: charging at you if you get too close. He cycles through these attacks
  in this order, so he's fairly predictable; unfortunately, his attacks are
  also fairly powerful, especially at this stage in the game. The key to
  defeating him lies in his red face: when he begins his flame-thrower attack,
  get on the right side of it, then follow it around until you're past where it
  started and start slashing. Also, when he starts using his blue face, you can
  get as far from him as possible and use the machine gun or cannon. However,
  you may wish to conserve at least the machine gun ammo, as it's fairly hard to
  come by. Oh, and sometimes his yellow face will summon Specter Lords, which as
  you may have noticed are pretty tough customers. However, his attacks should
  knock them out if you're careful. Also, I've noticed that for some reason rice
  balls appear on the field when he uses his yellow face. I'm not sure why, but
  it's to our benefit, so who cares, right? At any rate, when you finally defeat
  him, you get Hyakki's ???
Now, go beat Chapters 2 through 6, clear out the last hidden Fiends of Chapter
2, and come back to the Ancient Bamboo Thicket.
  Hidden Fiend: Maimai'Onba, Lv. ??
  Location: Somewhere in the left area of the Ancient Bamboo Thicket, there is
            a cracked rock with red stickers on it. Shoot it with the cannon
            once you have Hyakki's right leg to destroy it, then follow the path
            it was blocking.
  She's a big fan of poison attacks, being a moth, so equip your trusty Sword of
  Protection +2 (you should have picked one up in Chapter 6) and just have at
  her with attacks and Firestorm, because, being a moth, she's not very
  durable, and she's very flammable. She can, however, summon skeleton enemies
  who rush you before they appear explosively. I think these are Revenants, but
  they don't have the full amount of HP, which is actually a good thing, as
  they're a pain in the ass to deal with at full HP. For winning, you receive
  Hyakki's Vissudha chakra.
============================== 1-02: Dragon Brood ==============================
This is one of my least favorite chapters, and quite possibly one of the hardest
in the game. It's definitely in the top 3, at least. It also makes me wonder,
are there really deserts in Japan? I've never been there, so I don't know.
================================================================================
All right, you'll start off the chapter with an annihilation battle against my
least favorite type of enemy in any video game: zombie dogs. There are also
these bastards called Spirit Wheels, which look like burning wagon wheels with
faces; I hate them, too. Needless to say, this chapter is brutal and infested
with zombies, only these ain't your daddy's zombies-- they're some fast
mother****ers! Anyway, after defeating them, head forward to face another
annihilation battle against fast-lunging zombies. Once that's out of the way,
jump over the ledge and head to the dead end, where a statue holding a very nice
Flashing Blade awaits. Equip this immediately. Then, run back and jump from
ledge to ledge until you reach the top, at which point you should follow the
path. At the end, you'll have to engage the masterless samurai (Lv. 8) in a non-
lethal battle. 1-on-1 non-lethal fights are pretty simple; just get behind your
adversary and smack him silly with your sword. Whap! (You gotta love that
sound.) After defeating him, he will leave and Dororo will follow him. Simply
run after him, fighting enemies if you so desire. On the large screen with the
rock plateaus where you jump from one to the next, there is a Spirit Scroll
(Firestorm); these nifty little items let Hyakki perform different Spirit
Attacks, as I'm sure you're getting sick of using Flight of Sparrow. To pick it
up, look for the ledge sticking out from the wall. You'll have to fight one of
those Blood Weeds or something to get it, though. After you get into the town,
you'll have to attack the ronin from behind. The easy way to do this is to throw
Smoke Bombs at him-- you should still have some left over from Chapter 1-- run
up behind him and use the Dororo Uppercut (hit Triangle), and then run away
before he can use his mumbling teleport attack. (I swear to god, it sounds like
he's saying "creepy little weiner" when he does it...) It shouldn't take long.
Watch what happens, though. Control will switch back to Hyakki.
If you're feeling ambitious, and want to take out a Fiend without Dororo's
assistance, stick around; otherwise, go the way Dororo went. Here's the
strategy for that Fiend I was telling you about:
  Hidden 7th Fiend: Impaler, Lv. 9
  Location: Break the small rock in the area where you fought the masterless
            samurai for the first time in a non-lethal battle.
  This guy may seem insane when you first fight him, but he's really not that
  difficult. Simply dodge his thrusts, get on one side of him, attack three
  times, and jump off to the side to dodge his next thrusts. It's dirt-simple,
  really. After defeating him, you receive Hyakki's Manipura. (Apparently, it's
  the third chakra, whatever that means.)
Upon reaching the town, you'll have to take the long way around, so head left
and dash past (or fight) all the demons. Save at the save point, then head up to
the shrine to fight... what the--?! To win, however, the strategy is the same as
the one used against the masterless samurai; just attack from behind. You'll
meet up with a girl upon winning, and find lots of Jyukai's medicine up here.
After you've collected everything, head downstairs and save. If you want to
fight a fairly tough battle in the name of taking a shortcut (recommended),
here's the strategy.
  Hidden Fiend: Giant Fire Wheel
  Location: Remember the fenced-off area in the center of town? The gate's open
            now, so head on through.
  Pretty standard strategy: jump to the side when he charges at you, attack him
  from a distance when possible, get up close and personal when you run out of
  ammo, and use your Spirit Attack if you get into trouble. Oh, and use the
  arm-blades, as they're probably stronger than any sword you've got at the
  moment. Other than that, he's really not too different from those damned
  Spirit Wheels, except for the spikes along the outside of his wheel portion.
  For defeating him, you receive Hyakki's platelets.
Now, continue onward until you reach the area where the Spirit Scroll for
Firestorm was. Go through the tunnel-ish thing to the left (break the statue for
a large rice ball if you need healing) to fight...
  Fiend: Demon Sword Dragon Brood
  Not too hard, if you remember these fundamental steps: (1) Get behind him
  when he attacks. (2) Slash until your combo ends. (3) Retreat until he
  attacks again. At certain HP intervals, he will gain the ability to use more
  attacks, so you'll need to modify your strategy slightly. When he starts to
  say "Goodbye!", BACK OFF! He's about to slam his sword into the ground,
  causing blades to spring up around him. Needless to say, these HURT. Luckily,
  they're easy to avoid. Also, he'll be able to use the teleporting attack he
  used when you "fought" him as Dororo, so look out when he gets too far away.
  However, you can use your Spirit Attacks and what-not here, although the guns
  won't do you much good, as they're too slow. As usual, use the arm-blades, not
  the sword. After killing him, you receive Hyakki's spine. (So, up 'til now, he
  was spineless? Okay, I'm sorry, that was barely even 2/3 of a pun.) That
  concludes this chapter.
Hold up, you're not done here yet! There are still three hidden Fiends to fight!
(Yes, I know it only says two in the chapter thingy, but another shows up after
Chapter 6.) So, once you feel you're adequately prepared, head back in and go
towards the last area of the chapter.
  Hidden 13th Fiend: Night Terror, Lv. ?
  Location: In the area where you fought Dragon Brood, head through the little
            stone arch and kill all the red Poltergeists (they're technically
            called Crimson Earth).
  Before you begin fighting the red Poltergeists, equip the Sword of Protection.
  That way, you'll be protected from their poison attacks. Then, once you defeat
  them, he'll appear. He uses tons of poison attacks as well, but they're fairly
  easy to dodge. His hardest-hitting attack, however, is when he leans back and
  hits you with his big fat head. Can you say "OUCH!"? Luckily, if you just keep
  attacking his head, you'll score a pretty easy victory, assuming you had a
  Revive or two handy. After winning, Hyakki recovers his cerebellum.
Now, continue through the game until you beat Chapter 6. Afterwards, head back
here and go into town.
  Hidden 36th Fiend: Fiend Misaki, Lv. 35
  Location: Go to the shrine in the back of the ghost town after chapter 6.
  She's gotten pretty strong since you last fought her. She can do a flaming
  dash attack that's faster than Hyakki's dash, but which can be avoided by
  jumping. She can also do a sort of Spirit Attack where she jumps into the air,
  trailing a column of flame behind her. Plus, once you "defeat" her, a fiend
  spirit will pop out, and you'll have to kill it before it can go back into
  her; otherwise, she'll revive with half her HP! Overall, though, she's not
  tough per se, just really, really annoying. After defeating her, however, you
  recover Hyakki's right leg, which, curiously enough, does not disable his
  cannon, but enhances it. Now you're ready to go back to Chapter 1 and fight
  the Maimai'Onba, but first, there's still one last Fiend here to fight.
  However, he's pretty strong, so you may not wanna go after him just yet.
For the ambitious, here's the last Chapter 2 Fiend's location.
  Hidden 22nd Fiend: Draconus, Lv. 41
  Location: Behind the muck area where you fought the Night Terror, there's a
            series of ledges that leads to a save point and a thin column of
            stone between two thick columns. Shoot the thin column with the
            powered-up cannon, and go through the gap to fight.
  This guy's fairly durable, and decently powered, but he's thankfully very
  slow. Run up and attack his side, then run away when he tenses up, as he's
  about to use his spinning attack. Lather. Rinse. Repeat.
====================== 1-03: In the Belly of the Mountain ======================
This seems an odd title, eh? Don't worry, you'll get it eventually.
================================================================================
Okay, on the way up the path, you'll find a shrine. Head in and you'll have to
fight some of Daigo's soldiers in a non-lethal battle. It's not too hard,
thankfully. Now, explore the shrine for a little while, as there are a good
number of items to pick up, although it takes a while to get all of them because
the shrine is pretty big. After getting all of them (except the rice balls,
because you don't need them yet... do you? Well, there are some up ahead),
continue following the path. You'll arrive at a village. Explore for a while;
there's a Hidden Fiend to be found here (see the later portion of this section
for its location), as well as a few items. Of course, you may have to play as
Dororo first. If so, just follow the Magistrate into a cave. The first room of
the cave contains a box puzzle rather like the one in Cy-Girls: you have to push
boxes onto the platform in front of the door until their weight, when combined
with your character's weight, equals a certain amount. This one's a lot easier
than the one in Cy-Girls, though. I forget the exact method for solving, but I
remember that Dororo weighs 40 (is it in kilograms?) and that the magistrate
weighs somewhere around 140-160. The big boxes obviously weigh more than the
small. Just experiment, and e-mail me the exact method if you wish once you
solve it. You'll be able to go to the next room once you've solved this puzzle.
In here (assuming they weren't in the previous room), there will be some dolls
that shoot knives at you. Kill them to get some Throwing Knives, which you
should equip immediately. In another room, you'll find some enemies on the
floor, and some more on top of seemingly insurmountable heights. Kill the ones
on the floor first, then take a throwing knife and throw it into one of the
walls to form a platform. (It won't stick into the barrels, for some reason.)
Climb up. Now, kill all the enemies up here, then hit the switch somewhere to
open a crawlspace to the next room. Crawl through. I forget what to do now, but
it shouldn't be that difficult to figure out. Eventually, control will switch
back to Hyakki, so head back to the shrine. You'll have to fight...
  Fiend: Twin Blade
  He's not too tough, just attack him from behind with the jumping attack. When
  you defeat him, Hyakki recovers his ears, allowing him to land on his feet
  after being sent flying when you tap either an attack button or the X button
  (I forget which).
Now, head back to the Magistrate's hidden room (you can open the door in the one
room now). On the way in, however, you'll have to fight...
  13th Fiend: Fire Golem
  He's fairly tough, UNLESS you jump up and Helicopter his head. Then, he's
  pretty easy; just watch out for his whirling axe attack. Strike fast, strike
  hard, no mercy! (Yes, I stole that from The Karate Kid, so what?) You get
  Hyakki's stomach when you win.
Continue through the rooms. When you come to a room with barrel-lids hovering on
top of vents, smash them; one of them will open the door. The rest will summon
demons, however, so watch out. Somewhere along the way, you'll save Dororo. Now,
you'll have to climb up the mountain. Do so to fight...
  14th Fiend: Gaping Maw, Lv. 12
  He's fairly easy too, just watch out for his spinning attack and use roughly
  the same tactics you used against the Fire Golem. After you beat him you
  get... nothing? Well, he does get away...
After that, you'll have to fight...
  15th Fiend: Mountainous, Lv. 14
  He's pretty tough. The only time you can hit him is when he slams his fist on
  the ground and sweeps it to the side. Dodge this attack, then attack the RED
  PART ONLY! This will deal assloads of damage to him, as opposed to the
  pittance you inflict when you attack the rocks on the outside. After a few
  hits, he will retreat. Control will switch to Dororo.
As Dororo, head around the path, jumping over gaps when necessary. Eventually,
the fog will become too thick, and control will switch back to Hyakki. (Damn,
this has got to be the shortest paragraph in the guide!)
As Hyakki, head in the general direction of the arrows on the map, stopping to
kill the Rock Golems (jumping over them and attacking them from behind with
Triangle works wonders, as do the cannon, machine gun, and Spirit Attacks) and
skeletons for items or experience, smash the statues for ammo and a life up, and
save, preferably in that order. Then, continue following the path to reach an
area where you'll fight...
  15th Fiend: Mountainous, Lv. 14
  Pretty much the same as the last battle, except now he will sweep his fist
  back and forth a few times when he slams it down, and he will shoot exploding
  boulders at you. Beating him is still not something that should be too tough,
  though. Also, you can sometimes jump on top of him, which should make dodging
  his attacks a snap... until he goes into the ground. After you defeat him, he
  retreats again.
After that battle, continue up the path to reach an area where the source of the
fog resides. Dodge the Rock Golems and just beat on it unmercifully with the
jumping heavy attack (jump and press Triangle). Control will switch back to
Dororo. Just follow the path to reach a tangle of roots, and control will switch
back to Hyakki. Now, you must find the base of the roots and kill it, because
they didn't have Roundup in feudal Japan. So, continue along the path until you
reach an area where land rises up to form a plateau out of which Rock Golems and
their stronger incarnations come. Guess what? Yep, you've gotta kill 'em to move
on. Don't get up close and personal with the grey ones, just use the Slide
attack to knock off a little of their HP, then use the machine gun to blow them
away. As for the gold guys, hit them with a cannon shot and then run in and
slash the hell out of them. That was pretty tough, right? To top it all off,
when the next plateau rises, allowing you to continue onward, MORE Rock Golems
(and the stronger variety) appear! Fortunately, you don't have to fight these,
just jump onto the rock and get to safety. Continue onward to reach a tree of
some sort that's protected by roots. One good cannon shot ought to take it out,
I think, but I can never seem to get a good shot. Instead, just run up and slash
it. Besides, you'll need all the cannon ammo you can get. Control will switch
back to Dororo. Head down into the village, stopping at the Magistrate's house
to save and eat the rice ball located there (but not in that order). Then,
you'll have to dash through the village as fast as possible, as volcanic rocks
are raining down from the heavens. You'll know where they're going to land by
the red circles on the ground, so go around them if at all possible and head
toward the temple as quickly as you can. Control will switch back to Hyakki yet
again, and he'll need to destroy the source of the Fiend's hand. Gulp... Okay,
follow the path to reach a save point, and for the love of all things holy,
SAVE! Then, head forward to fight...
  15th Fiend: Mountainous, Lv. 14
  Here, you'll have to shoot his eye with Hyakki's cannon. Not too difficult, in
  theory, unless you run out of ammo, right? Unfortunately, he also has a
  powerful laser attack, with which he will eventually gain the ability to track
  you. This becomes a real bitch when you get him down to low HP and he starts
  shooting his laser every half-second. However, if you run out of ammo, the
  laser is your friend; get close to one of the Rock Golems, and let him kill
  them with it, then just pick up the ammo! It's not THAT hard, just very, VERY
  annoying. But, he's STILL not dead yet! GODDAMMIT!
Control will switch back to Dororo for the umpteenth time, so save and head into
the temple. Go into all the nooks and crannies along the outside perimeter to
collect a bunch of Jyukai's medicine, and be sure to destroy the statues and
pots to collect cannon ammo and a Spirit Max. Then, go into the building with
the flashing dot. Head back out and go into the mini-shrine on the right side of
the map (the one with roots leading to it). Collect the three Fire Bombs, go
back to the main building (where the Fiend's heart is), and throw them at the
heart. You will run out, so go back and collect some more, then throw two at the
heart to kill it. (I like this game-- it lets a perfect item file otaku such as
myself keep at least one of each throwing item Dororo gets after the stage of
the game in which they are needed-- assuming you don't accidentally use them all
up.) If, for some reason, you ever need healing, there are rice balls on the
left and the right side of the entrance to the burned-out main building. Anyway,
Hyakki regains his sense of pain once the heart is dead, which really makes no
sense, considering he was feeling pain before this. Maybe he's like Frank Grimes
(you know, from The Simpsons) and re-taught himself to feel pain after his body
parts were stolen. Who knows? At any rate, that's it for this chapter's
storyline. However, you'll probably want to come back for some pretty easy
hidden Fiends. Let's start with our old friend...
  Hidden 14th Fiend: Gaping Maw, Lv. 12
  Location: In the lower-left corner of the temple (going by the map), kill all
            the roots that appear.
  He's the same as when you fought him last. Kick his ass. (Hey, that rhymed!)
  Oops, I forgot to mention that when he runs away, he can now drop bombs behind
  him; luckily, this doesn't make him that much more difficult, since you should
  remember how to deal with such an attack from the Inquisitor fight. After
  defeating him, you receive Hyakki's small intestines.
Now, head into town.
  Hidden Fiend: Goliath, Lv. 12
  Location: Go to the upper-right corner of the magistrate's village and go
            through the gap in the rocks.
  He's functionally identical to the Great Horn. Kick his ass like you did his
  brother's. You get Hyakki's adrenal glands for your "efforts". I don't know
  about you, but he was the 1000th demon I killed. It's almost marginally
  interesting, eh?
After beating him, head up the mountain trail, saving at the magistrate's house.
Go into his secret cave and pick up the Spirit Scroll (Whirlwind Attack) in his
scale room, then leave.
  Hidden 20th Fiend: Wind Fiend, Lv. 19
  Location: Climb all the way up the mountain to where you fought Mountainous'
            eye with Hyakki.
  He seems to be weak against lightning, so use Hyakki's Thunderstrike Spirit
  Attack. Also, he takes pretty good damage from the machine gun and the cannon,
  so use those if the need arises. Obviously, this would NOT be a good battle in
  which to use Whirlwind Attack. Watch out for his own brand of whirlwind
  attack, in which he summons up to three tornadoes at a clip. This serves to
  very well illustrate the amazing processing power of the PS2; I was fighting
  him while he had six tornadoes going at once, and never did I detect any lag.
  (Sorry, I'm a computer geek.) For beating him, you receive Hyakki's abdominal
  muscles. That's it for this chapter!
================================ 1-04: The Wall ================================
No, this has nothing to do with Pink Floyd...
================================================================================
Simply head up to the wall and kill fifteen demon foxes. Then, climb up the
wall, grabbing the spheres of Juykai's medicine on the way, and kill 5 more,
then grab the big rice ball before you fight...
  16th Fiend: Three-tailed Fox, Lv. 13
  This boss is rather easy, just use your guns and Whirlwind Attack and it will
  go down in no time. Afterwards, you get Hyakki's lymph nodes, which currently
  do NOTHING! However, they work with the other immune system organs in the same
  way that the esophagus works with the stomach (in terms of gameplay mechanics,
  not in real-life terms)-- you need them to get any bonus out of the other
  organs in that system.
After defeating that Fiend, you'll encounter another fiend: our old friend
Daigo. Seems he wants to have Hyakki and Dororo killed-- but what else is new?
He'll send 40 of his soldiers at you, so equip the Three-Body Slasher or better
and just cut loose-- no pun intended. It's not going to be easy, unless you can
grab some of the invincibility gourds that they'll drop; then it's easy as pie.
I like to use Hyakki's jumping attacks (preferably the light ones), but you can
do whatever works best for you. Afterwards, control will switch to Dororo, and
you'll have to escort the siblings home. Fight all the demon foxes here for some
Max HP Ups (although you should already know to fight as many enemies as you can
for these), then destroy all the barrels and boxes for some throwing items
(again, you should already know to do this), and finally go in the direction of
the arrow on your map. It's pretty simple, so I'm not gonna hold your hand; just
be sure to look for gaps in the walls or doors you can break (they're see-
through and hanging off their hinges) and explore every nook and cranny to find
a Spirit Scroll (Spirit Slash), some ammo, a sword (Lightning Sword +2), and
plenty of Jyukai's medicine. Eventually, you'll reach district 3, where Dororo
will want to travel by rooftop. This means you can now jump onto the roofs,
provided you find a high enough platform from which to get up there. The carts
lying on their sides should work nicely. Remember to explore every nook and
cranny for some good stuff. Once you reach the siblings' house, control will
switch to Hyakki in South Town. You'll have to go to Daigo's manor, so follow
the arrow on your map, deviating only to explore. If you find a shrine, smash it
for a Sword of the White Tiger, which should be more powerful than anything you
currently have equipped. You'll eventually have to fight 30 of Daigo's men who
have been possessed, which means you can kill them with impunity (whatever
impunity is). Do so, save, and then head inside. Here, just follow the arrow on
your map, avoiding the enemies (they won't drop rice balls, no matter how many
you kill) and the spear guns, which obviously shoot spears at you when you walk
by. Keep following the arrow, smashing any destructible objects you come across
and avoiding as many enemies as possible, and you'll reach Daigo's manor, where
you'll fight...
  17th Fiend: Six-Tailed Fox, Lv. 15
  It's not too much more difficult than the Three-Tailed Fox, so just kill it
  with impunity whilst dodging its array of beam attacks, as well as its bite
  attack. Afterwards, you regain Hyakki's pancreas.
After the scene, you'll have to destroy some barriers. There are six altogether.
The first one, when you're just coming out of Daigo's Manor, is to the left; it
looks a green demon generator. To destroy its power source, head to the right
and destroy the fox statue. Now, go through the path where the barrier was
blocking your way. From the second barrier (this one's red) go toward the left
corner (into the section where there are lots of enemies on the map) and destroy
the fox statue. There's also a shrine here; if you need invincibility for some
reason, smash it. Head through to the bridge and go up the stairs to cross.
Here, there will be a green barrier, so smash the wooden barrier on the left
side of the bridge (smash the barrels underneath if you need health or ammo),
jump off, and destroy the statue, then proceed across the bridge, dodging
enemies as need be. You'll come to a blue barrier, so go back to the platform
with the blue beam emanating upwards from itself, stand off to the one corner of
it, and fire the cannon on an arc to hit the statue. (Basically, you aim the
cannon up, because, due to gravity, the shot travels downward as it goes
forward. It's called physics, folks.) Proceed across the bridge, dodging spears
along the way. In this area, I'm pretty sure you're competent enough to find the
barriers' (that's right, there are two) power sources on your own, so I'm gonna
turn you loose. Smash the barrels by the save point for health and save, though,
as you'll have to fight a non-lethal battle with Snake Eyes Saburota (Lv. 18).
He's not that tough, however, so just attack him from behind. Save and head
north to fight Tahoumaru (Lv. 18). He's not much tougher; however, you'll then
have to fight...
  25th Fiend: Nine-Tailed Fox, Lv. 18(?)
  He's kind of tough, much more so than his brethren. Use a Spirit Slash on him,
  and Tahoumaru will wake up and throw his sword through the fox's eye, which
  kind of looks cool, but doesn't do much. Then, just attack him with guns
  blazing, or with the occasional Screw Attack from the arm-blades, and he'll go
  down after a while. After the scene, Hyakki will regain his heart and blood
  vessels. Circulatory system (and the story portion of Chapter 4) complete!
Obviously, as you couldn't roam freely here, you'll need to replay this chapter.
Here are the fiends you'll need to defeat:
  Hidden 18th Fiend: Beast Fiend, Lv. ??
  Location: Almost the whole way across the Black Dragon Bridge in South Town,
            there will be a wooden barrier in the wall next to a spear gun.
            Smash the barrier and jump through the resultant gap.
  He's not tough, except fort his bombs. Just get behind him, do a Screw Attack,
  and then dash out of the bombs' blast radius. Lather, rinse, repeat. As he has
  only two attacks, he shouldn't give you that much trouble. After beating him,
  Hyakki recovers his cerebral neocortex.
  Hidden 21st Fiend: Hellcat, Lv. 19(?)
  Location: In the ruined first district of North Town, cut down the trees to
            the north of the center of town.
  He's not particularly strong, but he is extremely fast, so watch out. Use the
  cannon if you get into trouble, but only if he's far away, as it's very slow.
  The machine gun is the same way. The best way to defeat him is to hit him
  from the sides with jumping attacks from Hyakki's arm-blades, but this isn't
  easy to do. For your troubles, you'll receive Hyakki's Muladhara, which is
  apparently also a chakra (spiritual body part). Whatever.
  Hidden 23rd Fiend: Death, Lv. ??
  Location: In South Town's Battalion A Area, you'll find a shrine with purple
            light coming out of it. Destroy it and then head to the Black Dragon
            Bridge to fight him.
  Despite his name, he's not very powerful. Just keep performing heavy jumping
  attacks upon him while he's not putting his cane into the ground (to create a
  damaging symbol around him that shoots four fireballs) or skateboarding at
  you. Also, he seems to be weak against Firestorm, so use it. When he
  skateboards at you, DASH to one side; if you merely run, he can still hit you.
  After beating him, you recover Hyakki's thyroid gland.
  Hidden 29th Fiend: Blood Ape, Lv. 25
  Location: In North Town, District 3, find and destroy the glowing fox statues.
  His weak point is his chest! Unfortunately, it's really hard to hit him there,
  especially when he starts jumping around. I recommend using the machine gun to
  bring him down to red HP, then just attacking him from behind with jumping
  arm-blade attacks (none of your swords are probably powerful enough). He's not
  THAT tough, if you took the time to level up Hyakki's blades. You get Hyakki's
  ribs for beating this guy.
I recommend fighting these guys in the order of Hellcat, Blood Ape, Beast Fiend,
Death, but that's just the order in which I found them, so I don't know how
effective it is. After defeating these guys, you will be more than halfway
through the game! Go you!
================================= 1-05: Legion =================================
Obviously, there are gonna be lots of enemies in this chapter.
================================================================================
The chapter starts right into its "legion" theme with a non-lethal annihilation
battle against 40 of Daigo's soldiers, but you should know how to deal with
these bastards by now, so I'm gonna turn you loose. After that, it's an
annihilation battle with 100 demons, mostly Specters and Ravens, but also
against those weed things, Specter Lords, and a couple Specter Overlords, so be
sure to keep an eye out for invincibility gourds and rice balls. Afterwards,
control will switch to Dororo. Head through the mountains, but dodge the Rock
and Stone Golems-- unless, of course, you have a nearly infinite supply of Fire
Bombs, which I highly doubt you do. Eventually, you'll reach a temple. There
will be a section of wall with boards covering it; break through and grab the
Orb of Light, then go back in and go up to the statue. Jump into the hole that
appears and go forward. Close all the dresser drawers down here (you'll need to
push the block up to the last dresser), then step on the right floor panel to
open the doorway to the next area. Here, continue down the stairs, fighting the
enemies on the way if you so desire. At the bottom, go through the doorway and
into the left niche for throwing knives, then ring the gong in the right niche
to open the door. Save at the save point, then go up the stairs. (There are a
lot of little areas to explore in here, as well as a block puzzle in the corner,
but as far as I know these are all pretty much useless.) Ring the gong and hop
across the platforms to the newly-opened door. Grab the knives from the right
niche, then open the door at the far end and go through. Control will switch to
Hyakki. Head forward after saving and you'll engage Misaki in a non-lethal
battle, but she's only Lv. 1, so don't worry about it too much. She only got one
hit in on me, and she was lucky to do even that! I'm not bragging about being
teh r0XX0rz, either; she's just that easy. Of course, she does have a little
power to worry about, but she's too slow to really utilize it; besides, as long
as you beat her with more than half of Hyakki's max HP remaining, you'll be
fully healed afterwards anyway; maybe even if you beat her with less than half.
Of course, for losing that much HP to her, I would call you pathetic, even more
so than myself.
At any rate, head forwards to the Shike Temple. (Yes, the temple has a name; you
don't think Sega would cheap out and just call it the Temple of the Ancients or
something, do you? I mean, Square can get away with it, but Sega really can't
anymore.) Go in and try to leave to fight...
  27th Fiend: Redcap, Lv. 25
  He's really easy, just dodge his simplistic, minimalist array of attacks and
  punish him for his insolence in attacking you. He'll escape when you kill him.
Control will switch to Dororo, so jump across the floating platforms to the
niche in the top of the waterfall to clear this little mini-level. Control will
return to Hyakki, so head past the temple into the cave. Go through, grabbing
all of Jyukai's medicine that you find, but avoiding the golems. You'll reach a
ramshackle old bridge; cross it, jumping over the gaps. Don't bother killing the
demons until you get to the ones that look kind of like flying devils; kill one
to add it to the encyclopedia. Then, continue on to reach the river, where
you'll have to fight Misaki again. (Lv. 2! I'm SOOOOO impressed!) Dumb bitch.
Whip her again, though it's trickier on ice, and then follow the arrow on the
map. Or, you could take a detour when you get to the frozen-over area with the
skating demons to fight...
  Hidden 26th Fiend: Thunder Fiend, Lv. 25
  Location: Past the frozen-over section with the skating pea-pod demons, there
            is a temple with lots of statues. Go there.
  He's pretty tough and fast, as befits the Fiend of thunder. I don't really
  have any set strategy here, just dash when he charges up and begins charging
  at you, and doge his lightning blasts. Attacking him with Firestorm seems to
  be the way to go, but Hyakki's arm-blades do pretty good damage as well.
  Defeating him nets you Hyakki's lateral muscles.
Oops, I guess you have to fight this guy to get to where Dororo is. Oh well.
Follow the arrow on the map to eventually reach the waterfall, where you'll
fight...
  28th Fiend: Legion, Lv. 26
  Like everyone else here, he's weak against Firestorm. Use it to your heart's
  content. He's kind of strong, but really not that tough. Defeating him gives
  you... Hyakki's nose?
After defeating him, the chapter won't be complete. So, head back down the
mountain, saving at the save point. On your way, though, stop in at the Shike
Temple. Head down to the room where Dororo found the faceless people. It reminds
me of this really crappy song my friends Jesse and Cody wrote in third grade
(their words, not mine). It's like, "I'm faceless, (something ending in -est)!
I'm faceless, I'm on a never-ending quest! 'Cuz I'm faceless, and I don't know
why: faceless people can't even cry!" Heh... Sorry. Anyway, at the room where
the faceless people were, you'll fight...
  27th Fiend: Redcap, Lv. 27
  Location: (Duh!) In the room in the Shike Temple where the faceless people
            were.
  He's basically the same as ever, but he starts off by teleporting around the
  room. Kill him just like you did earlier, only he'll stay dead this time.
  Goddamn beaver freak... After killing him, Hyakki recovers his left arm, which
  means he loses the usage of his left arm-blade, but can use his sword and arm-
  blade at the same time. In addition, his left arm-blade becomes a sword known
  as Genbu, which can level up just like the arm-blade did. Unfortunately, this
  also means you can't equip crappy swords such as the Luck Blade and just use
  the arm-blades to kill enemies and make them drop items, nor can you use the
  decent Sword of the White Tiger for an easy speed boost while using the arm-
  blades; for full arm-blade functionality, you must equip and use Genbu. Of
  course, now you can level them up more evenly.
Anyway, remember where the statue of some Hindu-god-like being (I think it was
actually of Legion) was? Smash it and go down the mountain to end the chapter.
Of course, you'll need to come back to kill the remaining Fiends.
To start with, in the very first area there will be a hidden Fiend.
  Hidden 30th Fiend: Giant Inferno Wheel, Lv. ??
  Location: In the first area, kill all the miniature Spirit Wheels.
  He's just like his Fire brother; kill him in the same way. For defeating him,
  Hyakki recovers his bone marrow.
Now, head to the Shike Temple. Yep, HERE again.
  Hidden 34th Fiend: Soul Stealer, Lv. 31
  Location: In the room in the Shike Temple where the faceless people were, two
            platforms will extend out of the wall; use them to reach the top,
            then hit the wall with the disc in the middle to open the wall below
            it, revealing a new door. Go through it to fight.
  He's basically identical to the Grave Golem, but he shoots ice instead of
  fire, which spreads out on the floor. Equip a Sword of Protection +2 or
  better, then keep attacking him and he'll be dead before you know it--
  literally! You get Hyakki's large intestines for winning.
Finally, head toward the frozen waterfall. Go into the cave that leads there.
  Hidden Fiend: Minotaur, Lv. 42
  Location: In the cave that leads to the waterfall, jump out, off the ledge,
            onto the tile outside that sinks when you step on it. If done
            correctly, it should sink all the way into the ground.
  He's strong and fast, but his defense is mediocre. Watch out for his lunging
  attack, his beam attack, and to a lesser degree, his jump. When he begins
  charging for the lunge, dash to the side; when he begins his beam attack, go
  around behind him and attack. (I always use the Screw Attack, because it's my
  favorite, but do what you like.) When he leaps into the air, follow his arrow
  (it's orange) on the map until he lands. When you finally defeat him, Hyakki
  regains his pelvis. No, it has nothing to do with Elvis...
============================= 1-06: Gates of Hell ==============================
Already? Wow.
================================================================================
All right, what you'll wanna do is head to the demon-ridden town. Before you get
there, though, you'll have to fight Misaki in a non-lethal battle, except that
this time... she doesn't suck. (Lv. 28! Where the hell's she training?!) After
that, Saburota will appear and tell Hyakki to go to the Gates of Hell, where
things will apparently be made clear. Good, because right now I'm ****ing
clueless... well, not really, but it seemed to fit. All right, the game will
want you to enter the Cursed Forest, but once you get there, it won't tell you
where to go! Well, that's what you get for relying too much on game-proffered
assistance. Anyway, in here, smash all the stone heads to fight...
  Hidden 41st Fiend: Cursed Monk, Lv. 45
  Location: In the Cursed Forest, smash one of the large stone heads (not the
            golems) and he'll appear.
  I found this guy completely by accident. If you have a Sword of Protection +2
  equipped (find one at the section of forest three screens north of the
  entrance in a statue), however, he's not that strong, just really durable.
  Well, what do you expect? He's at Lv. 45 and your sword's only at Lv. 35!
  Still, he shouldn't pose too much of a threat. Attacking him from the front,
  oddly enough, seems to do more damage; however, it leaves you open to more of
  his attacks-- not that they're all that special anyway. You shouldn't even
  need to use the cannon or machine gun here, as he's so easy. The boss design
  team was on vacation when they made this guy, I think.
Continue wandering around the Cursed Forest-- I really can't help you, as I
can't remember the path I took-- until you reach a save point. Kill all the
enemies, go to the dead-end area and grab the large rice ball, and save, in that
order, then go up the stairs. Welcome to the Gates of Hell. Head inside. Dororo
will be separated from Hyakki, so go around the left side of the temple and
smash the cracked wall, then keep going around until you reach a place with lots
of Jyukai's medicine around it. Jump on the pot, then to the branch, and finally
to the roof. On the roof, go around to the right and jump in on the revenants.
Pass them, and bust open the cracked wall of the belfry, then jump down the
hole. You'll have to fight...
  31st Fiend: Midoro, Lv. 26
  His attacks are strong, but his defense sucks. Just keep Screw Attacking him.
  For winning, you get Hyakki's right eye.
Watch the scene (My prediction was right! Huh.) and fight the following
annihilation battle (100 enemies? Hah!), then escape through the Cursed Forest
and leave town to end the chapter. On the way out, however, you'll have to
fight...
  24th Fiend: Boar Fiend, Lv. 28(?)
  He's not that much tougher than his brother, the Beast Fiend, except that this
  time he can throw out bombs faster and summon enemies from his backpack. (I
  wonder if Jimmy Hoffa's in that backpack...) Just kill him like you killed his
  brother-- keep Screw Attacking him. For winning, you get Hyakki's pectoralis
  muscle.
================================ 1-07: Tragedy =================================
That's very... descriptive...
================================================================================
All right, first off you'll have to follow the arrow on the map to Daigo's
castle. You'll need to travel by rooftop to get all the way there. Once at the
main gate, you'll have to fight 30 of Daigo's troops in a non-lethal battle. Be
sure to knock down the watch towers, whatever that does. After clearing that,
you'll be inside. Inside, after killing all the skeleton-type demons, head to
the left and up the ramp-like structure. Up here, watch out for the glowing red
spot; if you touch it, immediately go behind or to one side of it, NOT in front
of it-- if you do, you get hit by an energy beam. Ouch. Anyway, open the door
and go inside. It's an elevator! Up here on the second floor, there is only one
room, and it's full of specter-type demons. Now it's time to make like Metallica
and kill 'em all. (I'm sorry, that wasn't even a reasonable facsimile of a
joke.) Anyway, after killing them, smash the pot by the entrance to this room
for a rice ball, then go back down the elevator. Back down here, jump onto the
raised platform directly opposite the statue that shoots beams at you.
Unfortunately, you can't kill it. Instead, jump to the platform next to it, and
go up the elevator. Here, you'll have to fight some tougher enemies, such as
muck-types and (I think) golem-types. Continue onward to the other elevator and
go down. Here, go to the end of the platform and jump off. Notice the large iron
girder lying on the floor. You'll know its purpose in a second. On the floor,
there will be several panels in front of statues that shoot fire. If you must
step on these (to get Jyukai's medicine, for example), run across in a straight
line. Anyway, somewhere on the floor is a lever with a skull on it. Hit it to
make the girder into a bridge, then go up a ramp-like structure to the platform
and hit the switch to bring the girder around to a useful position. (No, not the
69th...) Dash across, as there's a Bloodstone Golem waiting for you at the end
and those mother****ers are tough. Then, hit the switch once you're off the
bridge to return it to its original position. Go up the elevator now to reach a
room with two rice balls (one small, one large), some ammo, and two blue
candles. Then, continue through to a room in which you'll fight some of those
damned imp-type enemies (Poltergeist, etc.) which are only good for giving you
two things: irritation and Jyukai's medicine. Anyway, after defeating them, head
through the other elevator and go across the bridge and through the door on the
other side. Down here are lots of spheres of Jyukai's medicine. That's good.
There are also many spike obstacles and flame-throwers. That's bad. If you touch
one of the spikes, you will lose some HP and have to start from the last safe
spot on which you stood. It's not that much HP, however, so do your best to get
all the medicine, because you'll need all the revives you can get for some of
the upcoming bosses. At the end of the path, you'll have to smash a skull and
then go back. It's easier to get through this area if you wait for the spikes to
fall from the ceiling, and then jump on top of them. Of course, there are some
flame-throwers up there in the later areas, but these shouldn't trouble you too
much. Head back out to the main room, then go back into the elevator and fall
through the gap in the floor. Save and attempt to go up the stairs. Dororo will
head through the vent to save the imprisoned villagers. In this room, kill all
the enemies, then jump from platform to platform to get Jyukai's medicine. At
the end of the platform-path, go into the niche in the wall and hit the switch
or something to open the door to a save point. Go save, then continue through
the door into an octagonal room, where Dororo will have to fight...
  31st Fiend: Dragon Tank, Lv. 30(?)
  Don't worry, you don't have to kill him. You just have to throw a Fire Bomb at
  his side so that it knocks him into the central hole. If you don't have any,
  there are some in the niches around the room. It's not that hard, maybe taking
  three tries. Just watch out for his beam attacks; however, when he stops to do
  them, you can run up beside him and throw the bomb at him. He rarely stops,
  however.
After "defeating" him, go through the door opposite the one by which you
entered, and go down the stairs and through the other door. Dororo will rescue
Tahoumaru. Continue onward to a room in which you must defeat all the demons. Do
so and save (no, there's no way to get the items located way up high, I've
tried), then head through the door and up the stairs to release the prisoners.
Press O to release each one from his cell; sometimes two will come out. To make
up for this, some cells will be empty; when you open these, demons will come out
after a while, but they're only weak skeletons, so don't worry about it. The
cells seem to be filled randomly, so I can't really give you any tips on which
cells to open and which to leave closed. After freeing all the prisoners, you'll
have to escape from the castle dungeon, which would normally be a cinch,
except... guess who's back, back? Back again, 'gain? D-tank's back, back.
Tell a friend-- okay, I should stop that, even though Eminem is one of the few
good rappers in existence. Anyway, run from him, until you reach a room where
you'll have to fight...
  31st Fiend: Dragon Tank, Lv. 30(?)
  Okay, to kill him, you'll need to use Fire Bombs. Of course, you could always
  try it the hard way (wait for him to stop moving, kick him in the butt,
  repeat), but it's just easier this way. If you run out or get low on HP, go to
  one side of the scaffold (structure holding up the walls) and climb up (jump
  from short platform to higher platform) to reach the Fire Bombs and the rice
  ball on that scaffold. This also has the added bonus of putting Dororo out of
  the way of his charge attacks; however, his beam and fire attacks can still
  hit. All in all, though, he's not THAT tough; I mean, you're fighting him with
  Dororo, for Christ's sake! After you win, Hyakki regains his teeth. Useful.
As Hyakki, save and head upstairs. Go through the door to fight a non-lethal
battle with ten of Daigo's soldiers. The interesting thing about this battle is
that you can fight the soldiers behind a paper screen, so that all you can see
is the silhouettes of the combatants. Eh, I thought it was cool, anyway. Keep
going through the door. In here, kill all the enemies, then go up to the top of
the stairs and save. If you want to fight the Demon Ogress and continue the
game, head through the door to the right (when facing the stairs). The left door
only leads to a room full of Bloodstone Golem and Crimson Earth enemies, as well
as some explosive boxes of ammo and some of Jyukai's medicine. However, there's
really not enough medicine to justify a trip in there, even with the scant
amount dropped by the Crimson Earth. There's also a Molten in the corner, but
they don't usually give medicine. The door at the top of the stairs just leads
back down to the first floor-- not where you want to go, especially considering
that you'd have to go the long way back up. When you're ready, head through the
right door to fight...
  38th Fiend: Demon Ogress, Lv. 37
  She's basically the Ogress from Chapter 1, but with more power in her attacks,
  including an obnoxious healing attack. Kick her ass the same way. (Why are
  there so many repeat boss forms at this stage? I mean, if you're gonna have 48
  Fiends, have 48 DIFFERENT Fiends, for Christ's sake!) For winning, you receive
  Hyakki's lungs.
Anyway, hop up onto the block and open the door, then continue through. You'll
be back in the screen room, so hop across the gap to the door and go through.
Here, you'll have to fight two Bloodstone Golems, two Specter Overlords, and two
Guardian Beasts, so kill them all and continue. You'll end up in that room I
told you to avoid, so smash the pots, save, and go forth. You'll arrive in a
room with flame-thrower statues, so just dash to the end and stay on the
platform until it stops moving, then go across the panel to fight...
  Fiend: Snake Eyes Saburota, Lv. 40
  He's pretty tough. Only Genbu will probably be at Lv. 40 (unless you went back
  and fought the three previously-inaccessible Fiends in chapters 1 and 2), so
  just equip and use that exclusively, not with the arm-blade. He's not that
  powerful, actually. (My prediction about him was wrong after all! Shocking,
  huh?)
After defeating him, head through the door into the elevator. You'll now have to
go along the outer wall, so do so, avoiding the spear guns and demons.
Eventually, you'll reach a place where you'll have to jump down (it's kind of
scary-looking) and go through the doorway. Follow the path to the room without
any enemies in it (according to your map). There will be spear guns and plenty
of cannon rounds in here, but there will also be a few tough enemies, so kill
them, then step on the panel next to the third spear gun to fire it, making a
platform you can jump on to reach the seemingly-inaccessible large rice ball.
Head through the now-open doorway to fight the last non-lethal battle against
Daigo's soldiers of the game. 20 soldiers is nothing you can't handle, right?
After defeating them, save, and head up the stairs. Open the doors and head
forward to fight...
  Composite Fiend: Chimera, Lv. 46
  Despite its imposing visage, the Chimera really isn't all that powerful. Its
  charge attack can be avoided by dashing to the side, its "cough up
  thunderballs" attack can be dodged by simply dashing in a straight line, its
  "thunder uppercut" can be avoided in the same fashion, and its spin attack can
  be avoided by dashing away from it. Of course, these attacks don't even do
  that much damage, provided you've been going back through the chapters and
  fighting the hidden fiends. It's really not that tough; I actually beat it on
  my first try (like many of the current Fiends, actually), but then the power
  went out and I had to fight it again (how much thought does it take not to fry
  the breaker, Sianis?!), and it was even easier! The key word here is speed,
  because, in the immortal words of Gavin Rossdale, speed kills. For beating
  him, Hyakki regains his gall bladder, thymus gland, diaphragm, lacrimal
  glands, and pituitary gland. After beating him, however, you'll have to
  fight...
  Fiend: Fiend Tahoumaru
  I didn't really have problems with this guy until I started to get him really
  close to death; then, he becomes fast as one mother****er and as strong as
  two. However, he's not that powerful until then, and his attacks are pretty
  easy to dodge at first, so... At any rate, I can't beat him. Once he gets low
  on HP, he can also start healing himself, and he'll teleport around the room
  in a fairly Kain-esque fashion. Basically, what you wanna do is come in here
  packing two to three revives, because he's gonna kill you at least once.
After defeating him, the chapter will be over, but you may wish to head back in
to fight the remaining Fiend(s). Actually, you'll have to if you even have any
delusions whatsoever about beating this game.
First, head back to the room where Hyakki fought Snake Eyes Saburota.
  Hidden 40th Fiend: White Dragon, Lv. 43
  Location: From the platform where you fought Snake Eyes Saburota, head left
            and jump over the snake statues onto a platform, then jump from
            there into the hallway leading to him.
  He's basically the same as Draconus, except his jumping attack causes ice
  damage and freezing instead of fire damage, and he can't breathe fire. He's
  not that much tougher, either. For winning, you get Hyakki's skull. Sick of
  repeat Fiends just yet? You will be by the time this chapter's over.
Go to the outer wall of the castle to fight two more fiends.
  Hidden 39th Fiend: Bloodgore, Lv. 38
  Location: In the second niche along the perimeter of the outer wall, there
            will be a hallway. Follow it to fight.
  He's basically the same as the Impaler, just a little faster. Kill him the
  same way. For winning, you receive Hyakki's Svadhistana chakra.
  Hidden 37th Fiend: Carrion Feeder, Lv. 38
  Location: From the outer wall, go into the eighth niche (the one with a demon
            aura in it, on the left side) and go down the hall, then open the
            door and head inside.
  He's a bit tougher than the Dreameater, but still nothing you can't handle,
  right? For winning, you receive Hyakki's Anahata chakra, which only works if
  you have all the others. Piece of ****.
Now, go to the elevator room where Hyakki and Dororo were reunited and go down
the other elevator, then go past all the cells and turn left. Go up the stairs
to reach the Stables and fight...
  Hidden Fiend: Three Face, Lv. ??
  Location: Enter the Stables. That's it.
  He's basically the same as the Inquisitor, just with a little more authority
  and a little less difficulty. Squash him like a fly and move on with your
  life. You recover Hyakki's Sahasrara chakra for doing so.
That's it for this chapter's Fiends. "But wait a minute, where's the last
Fiend?" You baka! Don't you remember what Saburota said? And thus, we have the
last chapter to attend to...
================================= 1-08: Dororo =================================
::Looks at screen:: DAMN! And... DAMN!
================================================================================
This chapter only has one Fiend in it, but it's literally impossible to beat. At
least, I can't beat it, though I haven't tried after learning what I now know.
Eh. Anyway, you should consider yourself lucky that I'm even providing a
strategy for this bastard; normally, I don't provide strategies for final
bosses in my guides. And so, without further ado, I give you...
  48th Fiend: Behemoth, Lv. 60
  This bastard is ****ing tough. Its first two forms are easy, and it's third
  form is mediocre, but its fourth and fifth forms are damned near impossible.
  I've never even reached the fifth form, but I have a vague idea of how to kill
  it. Let's start with the first form. It's not that tough, just shoot it with
  the cannon and dodge the orange fireballs. If you need cannon ammo, just
  Helicopter the purple-and-black fireballs. If you're really good, you can time
  your shots to hit it while it's moving (aim a little ahead of it, just like in
  deer hunting), but if not, it does stop moving from time to time. Its second
  form isn't too hard either; just jump up and attack the claw when it swings
  toward you, then jump on top of it when it falls down and slash the face.
  After that, things start to get weird. Its head splits in half, but it doesn't
  die; instead, it gains the ability to shoot powerful beams out of its neck.
  Anyway, for this form you'll have to destroy the horns on its back. Do this as
  you would in Kingdom Hearts: dodge attacks (run to the left-- it works better)
  until it lays down, jump onto the tail, and run up onto its back, then start
  attacking the horns. After you break off part of one horn, you'll have to keep
  attacking it until you leave behind a bloody reddish spot, then move on. If
  you fill your Spirit Gauge, use Firestorm or Flight of Sparrow. However, once
  you get down to the last two horns, stop using Spirit Attacks and equip Flight
  of Sparrow; you'll need to use it against the next form (I think). After
  destroying all the horns, you'll have to fight the form that I find
  impossible. It will fly at you, and you'll have to attack the head with a
  combo. The only problem is, it's still flying at you while you're attacking,
  and thus you get knocked back and take damage. However, this wouldn't be so
  bad if it didn't heal between passes. That's right; any damage dealt that
  fails to kill it is null and void once it flies away. I've heard from Rex
  something about "spinning on the ground", which sounds to me like it might
  work to use Flight of Sparrow against this bastard, so try it out and get back
  to me. If, by some miracle (cough cough GameShark cough), you manage to defeat
  the fourth form, you'll be able to fight the fifth and final form. Its heart
  falls out, and from what I've heard, you have to use Slice Attack on it and
  get in-- get this-- 48 hits! Forty-eight ****ing hits! In one shot! That's
  ****ing INSANE!!! (I have heard about a sword that lets you hit an enemy four
  times for each correct button press in Slice Mode (see chapter 3, section 2
  for info on obtaining it), but still...) But, once you've done that, it dies
  and you get to see the ending. Hopefully this game's ending isn't sucky like
  the one for Resident Evil 4. (That's just what I've heard, though, as I never
  actually saw RE4's ending; that game is ****ing nuts! The enemies can run and
  throw things, and things pop out of their necks when you perform headshots at
  night! HOLY ****!)
What, you thought the game was over? Hah! Read on, mortal!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Chapter 2: Dororo Mode ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
~ Yep, we all know you love playing as Dororo! Don't try to hide it! (Oh, and ~~
~ a level-by-level guide is coming soon... I hope.) ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

================================ 2-01: Overview ================================
Chapter-by-chapter guide coming soon! ...maybe.
================================================================================

You unlock this mode by defeating Fiend Tahoumaru. Basically, as Dororo will
explain, the goal of this mode is to go through some of the little areas you've
been through in Story Mode and collect coins. I'll try to get a chapter-by-
chapter thing going, but as it's impossible to fully describe an area adequately
in words, not to mention that I've already given the game back to Rex and that
my PS2's broken, I doubt it will ever happen. Of course, it's not like anything
great happens in this mode; all that you get for completing a chapter is a few
unlocked screens in the gallery. It's really not worth it. Also, for some
strange reason, the game doesn't let you retain the HP Max Ups you procured as
Dororo in the Story Mode, so you start out with 280 HP. Of course, if you can
defeat enemies within the time limit (yes, there's a time limit), you can obtain
some HP boosts, but (1) I'm pretty sure they don't carry over to the next
chapter, and (2) the time limit is anywhere from one to three minutes, so you
won't have enough time. Anyway, like I said, there's really no point to this
mode, it's just a sort of mini-game they thought would be cool to put in. Play
it if you want.

~ This stuff wouldn't fit anywhere else, but it is far from useless... I hope. ~

================================= 3-02: Swords =================================
This will be a complete listing of all the swords in the game once it's
finished. It will also eventually feature the basic attack powers of the swords,
once somebody sends them in.
================================================================================

Let's face it: sometimes you just have to use Hyakki's sword. Not because the
arm-blades wouldn't suffice, mind you, but because the game forces you to with
its non-lethal battles. Thus, I have compiled a list of basic swords that I have
obtained throughout the course of the game. (Basic means that it's not "--sword
name-- +2", "--sword name-- +3", etc. "+2" indicates the level is increased by
20, not 2; likewise, "+3" indicates a +30 increase in level. Can you guess what
"+1" means?) Also, I've heard there is a sword that lets you hit an enemy four
times for each attack (much like the Crissaegrim in Castlevania: SOTN,
actually...), but I don't know what it's called. I do know where to get it,
though... I think.

Name: Worn Blade
Basic: Lv. 2
Other: Weakest sword that I've found thus far. I don't think it has an upgraded
       form.
Obtain: Sengoku Riverside, floating above a rock somewhere, Chapter 1.
Drop: Wandering Skull - Sword

Name: Unmarked Blade
Basic: Lv. 3
Other: N/a
Obtain: Hyakki starts with this sword. There's only one in the game.
Drop: N/a

Name: Poison Sword
Basic: Lv. 4
Other: Protects wielder from poisoning. You still take damage, though.
Obtain: Yudai Village, in a statue on the left side of the map, Chapter 1.
Drop: ???

Name: Fire Sword
Basic: Lv. 3
Other: Supposedly protects its wielder from flames. You still take damage,
       however.
Obtain: Yudai's Manor - Basement, when exploring it as Dororo, Chapter 1.
Drop: ???

Name: Lightning Sword
Basic: Lv. 3
Other: Supposedly protects wielder from lightning. You still take damage,
       though.
Obtain: Somewhere in North Town, when exploring it as Dororo, Chapter 4. (+2)
Drop: ???

Name: Ice Sword
Basic: Lv. 3
Other: Supposedly protects its wielder from freezing caused by ice. You still
       take damage, though.
Obtain: ???
Drop: ???

Name: Sword of Protection
Basic: Lv. 15
Other: Supposedly protects against poison, fire, lightning, and cold. Works
       pretty well, actually, but you still take some damage.
Obtain: Somewhere in Chapter 3.

Name: Flashing Blade
Basic: Lv. 8
Other: Randomly kills enemies in one hit. Obviously this doesn't work on Fiends.
Obtain: In a statue at the dead-end of the Nowaki Trail's lower path, Chapter 2.
Drop: ???

Name: Flametongue
Basic: Lv. 10
Other: Spirit Gauge fills faster... supposedly.
Obtain: ???
Drop: ???

Name: Sword of the White Tiger
Basic: Lv. 18
Other: SPD +5 (x number of tens in its level?)
Obtain: Smash a shrine somewhere in South Town in Chapter 4.

Name: Luck Blade
Basic: Lv. 12
Other: LCK +5 x number of tens in its level
Obtain: Go to the place in the Ancient Bamboo Thicket where the money was buried
        in Chapter 1.
Drop: Bloodstone Golem (+2)

Name: Sword of Clarity
Basic: Lv. 6
Other: Supposedly maintains the wielder's focus, whatever that does.
Obtain: ???
Drop: ???

Name: Three-Body Slasher
Basic: Lv. 14
Other: Glows when equipped. Otherwise completely unremarkable.
Obtain: ???
Drop: ???

Name: Five-Body Slasher
Basic: Lv. ?? (I never got it)
Other: Is probably stronger than the Three-Body Slasher, but otherwise similar.
Obtain: ???
Drop: ???

Name: Seven-Body Slasher
Basic: Lv. ?? (I never got it)
Other: Is probably a better version of the Five-Body Slasher.
Obtain: ???
Drop: Skeletal Warrior - Dbl. Sword (?)

Name: ???
Basic: Lv. ?? (I never got it)
Other: Hits enemies four times with each attack. May only work in Slice Mode.
Obtain: In the room where you fought the Chimera and Fiend Tahoumaru, Chapter 7.

Name: Genbu
Basic: (Level varies)
Other: Level rises as Hyakki defeats enemies with it.
Obtain: Recover Hyakki's left arm. See walkthrough for details.
Drop: N/a

============================= 3-03: Spirit Attacks =============================
This section lists all the game's spirit attacks. (No, really?)
================================================================================

Spirit Scrolls are those little square items you sometimes see floating around
the chapter's various areas. They have pictures on them, and allow you to
perform various Spirit Attacks when equipped. Actually, you don't get to perform
them; you just aren't cool enough. However, Hyakkimaru gets to utilize their
power when his Spirit Gauge is full and you press Square + Triangle. Kay-O?

Oh, and Hyakki's invincible for the duration of the attacks, and in some cases
for a few seconds afterwards. You'll know how long, because he's flashing the
whole time.

Name: Flight of Sparrow
Effect: Hyakki attacks any and all nearby enemies with this attack. It looks
        kind of like the magic-enhanced Whirling Blade from Ocarina of Time on
        steroids. It's not always that good against bosses, because he moves
        while using it, but when used correctly it will do an adequate amount of
        damage, due to its many hits.
Obtain: Hyakki starts with this.

Name: Firestorm
Effect: Hyakki shoots a powerful burst of flames straight ahead, hitting all
        enemies on a line. It's more effective against bosses than one hit of
        Flight of Sparrow, but you may still prefer to use the former.
Obtain: Chapter 2, floating above a rock with a plant demon on it.

Name: Whirlwind Attack
Effect: Hyakki summons forth a tornado, which you can move back and forth with
        the left stick; however, you can't just make it stay in one place. So,
        just sweep it across whatever boss or enemy on which you're using it for
        best results.
Find: Chapter 3, in the Magistrate's Hidden Room.

Name: Thunderstrike
Effect: Hyakki calls down lightning from the heavens, damaging all enemies
        within an arm's length of him, somewhat like the Thunder series of
        spells in Kingdom Hearts.
Obtain: ???

Name: Spirit Slash
Effect: Hyakki sends a Ki blast through an enemy, or something like that. It's
        not that good, though; unlike those in DBZ, it can't even destroy walls
        or rocks! Goddamn useless Spirit Attack...
Obtain: Somewhere in North Town in Chapter 4.

============================ 3-04: Version history =============================
Nobody reads this stuff, I put it at the end, yada yada yada.
================================================================================

 Version 1.00 - started 01/04/06 - finished 01/17/06
-At this point, I doubt I'll ever be truly done, especially with MY bad skills.
 Also compounding the problem is the fact that I've already given Rex this game
 back; granted, he lives right next door, but still... oh, and my PS2 broke of
 its own volition recently, so I'm basically screwed.

 Version 1.01 - started 06/21/06 - finished 06/21/06
-Updated the format to maintain consistency with my new guides (and to make it
 easier to read). No new info was added.

 Version 1.02 - started 01/17/07 - finished 01/17/07
-Updated the list of sites allowed to host this guide, as well as the ASCII sig.

============================== 3-05: Final words ===============================
That's it, it's finally over. Phew!
================================================================================

Thanks to:

Me: For typing this. You: For reading this.
My friend Rex: For giving me tons of tips and advice on how to beat the Fiends.
               Also for letting me borrow this game in the first place (and the
               second place).
Anyone else who contributes: Thanks in advance!
4 Twenty 7: For writing the "Faceless" song I referenced back in section 5 of
            chapter 1, and for being the future of Burgettstown rock music.
            Check them out at www.4twenty7.com, and at the Burgettstown Jams,
            which are actually in Langeloth.
The Smashing Pumpkins: For just generally rocking out hardcore.

No thanks to:

Coheed and Cambria: For making sucky music.
Fall Out Boy: The same.
The Darkness: Ditto.
Sony: For making the PS2 so damn fragile. Mine broke for absolutely no reason
      whatsoever.
Microsoft Word: For stripping out carriage returns where they belong and
                inserting them where they don't.

Adieu, my friends; parting with a game is such sweet sorrow.
