This is a Walkthrough for the Astro Boy video game for the Playstation 2.

Astro Boy was developed by Sonic Team and released in the US by Sega
Aug 18, 2004.

ESRB Rating - E

This game is NOT the same as "Astro Boy Omega Factor" for Game Boy
Advance. While they have similar titles, they are completely different
games.

Use Soft reset if you want to restart the game from your
last Save point.

Health gauge (blue) - displayed in upper left corner of screen

Force (energy) gauge (red) - displayed in the upper left corner
of the screen under the Health gauge

The boss' health gauge is displayed at the bottom of the screen.

Metro City map - displayed in lower right corner when Astro is
in Metro City. Red arrow shows where Astro is. Flashing
marker indicates a destination. Yellow non-flashing marks
show entrances and exits.

SAVING YOUR GAME                                                   [GAMESA]

There are two Save points in the game:

a. Astro's Home 
b. Ministry of Science

To save your game, walk up to Nora (the yellow robot), then
press Square ("Talk"). This brings up the Save menu.

To Cancel, press Triangle.

Occasionally, the game provides other chances to save (like in
Sequences 4 and 5).

CHARACTERS                                                         [CHAR01]
===============


Astro Boy -                                                        [ASTRO1]
-------------

Astro Boy is a robot boy created by the brilliant but obsessed
Dr. Tenma as a replacement for his young son who died in an accident.
Over time, Dr. Tenma grew dissatisfied with the robot, and sold him
to a cruel circus owner. In the original 1960 anime, Astro's great
strength was showcased by forcing the young robot to fight wild
animals in the circus ring. Later, the kindly Dr. O'Shay saw him
at the circus, and adopted him.

Astro Boy is 4 1/2 feet tall (1.35 meters). He has black hair
(with two cowlicks), doughnut-shaped ears, a round nose, and huge
black eyes. While super heroes traditionally wear a full, brightly
colored outfit, Astro's clothing is surprisingly sparse, consisting
only of large red boots and black, tight-fitting shorts. His bare
body is generally featureless, but his heavily built arms and
massive fists are clear indications of exceptional physical strength.


Astro Boy's Powers - 

a. 100,000 Horsepower Strength
Enables Astro to lift tremendous amounts of weight and battle foes
that are many times his size. Available at the beginning of the game.

b. Rocket boots
Astro's red boots can turn into rocket boosters, giving him the
power of flight. Gained after robot battle in Sequence 1. To make
Astro fly, push forward on the right analog stick.

c. Supersonic Hearing
Gained after Zoran first shows Astro her card collection, Sequence 1.
This ability allows Astro to pick up transmissions from Yuko and
O'Shay. This is not a controllable function, and only appears during
cut-scenes when Astro is being sent on a new mission.

d. X-ray Vision
Gained in Sequence 3 during the Denkou fight. Press R1 to use it.

e. Digibeam
Energy ray. Gained in Sequence 4 after Astro defeats the bats and the
hoverbikes, and enters Denkou's Tower. Press Circle to use it.

f. Power of Analyzation
Enables Astro to understand different languages. Like Supersonic
Hearing, this is not a controllable function. However, it is a
required skill for getting some of the Character Cards. Gained
during Sequence 5.

g. Arm Cannon
Gained in Sequence 6 during the fight with the robots in the sky.
Press Triangle to use it.

h. 1 Million Horsepower Strength
Gained after defeating Pluto (Sequence 7).



OTHER CHARACTERS -                                                 [OTHR01]
-------------------
1. Dr. O'Shay - ("Dr. Elefun" in 1960s TV series) the kindly
director of the Ministry of Science. Reactivated Astro after
the boy robot was discarded by Tenma. Astro lives with O'Shay
as a son.

2. Dr. Tenma - ("Dr. Boynton" in 1960s TV series) creator of
Astro Boy. Dedicated to helping robots take over the world.
The robot foes that menace Astro were all created by Tenma.

3. Atlas - Another boy robot created by Tenma. Dedicated to
furthering Tenma's desire for a robot-dominated world.

4. Zoran - ("Uran" in original series) Astro's robot sister. She
possesses several of the same powers as Astro, although she only
has a fraction the boy's fabled strength. She can also communicate
with animals.

5. Yuko - O'Shay's assistant. She sends Astro on missions during
gameplay.

6. Nora - (Nanny Organizer Robotic Android) Astro and Zoran's
"nanny". Also, a Save point for gameplay.

7. The Blue Knight - a robot who wants to emancipate all robots
from human domination. He rides a horse named Leto.

8. Sharaku - a mysterious little boy who enlists Astro's help to
exorcise people who are possessed by demons

9. Shadow - Wants to create a robot kingdom with himself as king;
plans to destroy Earth and the humans using his Fortified Rocket;
the creator of Acheron

10. Pluto - a robot whose mission is to be the world's strongest
robot


LOCATIONS -                                                        [LOCT01]
-------------------

1. Astro's Neighborhood - (see "Home")

2. Bay Area - Location of the Magnamite battle as well as several
Character Cards. Entrance is the blue tunnel located west of Home.

3. Brokken Volcano - Location of the Pluto battle. Entrance is
the red-orange tunnel in the west portion of Metro City.
Inside, the area is broken up into S-shaped corridors and
cylinder-shaped "volcanoes." Many of these volcanoes have hidden
entrances to rooms that contain several Character Cards.

4. Central City - A shopping mall located southwest of the Ministry
of Science. It a round building with a dark green roof. Entrance
is an open doorway on the west side of the building.

5. Denkou's Tower - The tallest, largest structure in the Industrial
Area. The entrance is straight across from the sculpture and up
the white stairs. The building is surrounded by a rotunda, and
has a magnet tower extending up from its roof.

6. Eagle Building - An off-white building located in the far eastern
part of Metro City. It has a statue of an eagle on top. Entrance
is a door directly below the eagle's face. Inside, the building is
divided into corridors and rooms. Several rooms have entrances to
"hidden" rooms that contain health boosts and Cards.

7. Home ("Astro's Neighborhood" "Dr. O'Shay's Home") - where
Dr. O'Shay, Astro, and Zoran live. The entrance is the pink tunnel
south of Ministry of Science. Location of one of the game's Save
points.

8. Industrial Area - Location of Denkou's Tower. Astro battles
Atlas and Pluto here. Entrance is an invisible green tunnel
west of Home; need X-Ray Vision to see it.

9. Metro City - The main city. All the main buildings like Central
City, Ministry of Science, and Eagle Building are located here.
You "enter" Metro City by flying straight up into the air from
any outdoor location.

10. Ministry of Science - Tall, white tower located in the center
of Metro City. It looks a little like the Space Needle in Seattle.
Entrance is a door at the very top of the tower on the west. Both
Dr. O'Shay and Nora can be found here. Location of one of the
game's Save points.

INTRODUCTION                                                       [INTR01]
===================
Astro Boy for PS2 is a short game. People have finished it in as
little as five hours.

The main storyline consists of 10 Sequences. Sequence 10 contains
the final boss battle. 

In addition to the main story, the game has 85 Character Cards
available for collection. For more information, see the Card
Collection section. Collecting Cards is not required to finish
the main story. However, it is advisable to wait until after
Sequence 9 to start Card collecting since many Cards require
Astro's special abilities (X-Ray Vision, 1 million HP Strength, etc).


==============================
SEQUENCE 1 - GETTING STARTED                                       [SEQ001]
==============================

Introduction                                                       [SEQ01A]
-------------

When first loading the game, you can watch the short opening animation
or press START to skip it.

However, if you watch the opening over and over, you will hear
a different character saying something about Astro Boy:

***Astro: Astro Boy, that's me!
***(kid's voice - Denkou?): (laugh) Astro Boy, great!
***Dr. O'Shay: This...is Astro Boy!
***Nora: That's my Astro Boy!
***(low gruff voice): It's Astro Boy!
***Zoran: Astro Boy! That's my big brother!
***(man's voice: Blue Knight?): Astro Boy, is it?
***Dr. Tenma: Astro Boy - or so they call you.
***(female: Yuko?): It's Astro Boy!

When the game starts, listen to Nora's long speech about game
controls. After she is done, press Square ("Talk") to bring up
the menu. Select Save (press X) and save your game.

Use the left analog to turn around and face the two doors. Exit
the door on your left by walking up to the door and pressing
Square when the the menu in the upper right corner of the screen
says "Open".

Astro will see a flock of birds on the ground. Walk up to the birds.


Robot Attack                                                       [SEQ01B]
--------------
Now a group of robots will appear out of nowhere and land in front
of you. They demand that "Tobio" show them how really strong he is.

This is your first fight. Approach a robot until the purple circular
Lock On icon appears. Press L1 to lock on to one robot; the Lock On
icon will turn green. Now press Square to punch him.

This is not a hard fight, so use this time to get used to the
controls. I found myself punching air a lot even when I thought
I had locked on to a target.


Gain Rocket Feet                                                   [SEQ01C]
------------------
After defeating all the robots, you will see a cut-scene where one 
robot will somehow survive and knock Astro off the building. This is
where you gain Astro's Rocket Feet and the ability to fly.


Your First Flying Ring Course                                      [SEQ01D]
-------------------------------
Dr. O'Shay will come over and express surprise over Astro's ability
to fly. He asks Nora to set up some rings for Astro to fly through.

When you regain control, fly through the rings. The rings are pretty
big and they don't move around. Get the feel of flying through rings
because some of the Cards require you to do some ring flying to get
them.

Return Home                                                        [SEQ01E]
------------
Dr. O'Shay congratulates Astro for flying through all the rings.
Now return Home by flying through the pink tunnel located in the
south.

At Home, use Nora to save your game. Walk up to the yellow robot,
then press Square ("Talk"). The Save menu will appear. Save your
game.

Now talk to Zoran, Astro's sister (press Square). She will act
really excited over Astro's ability to  fly.

Talk to her again, and she will show Astro her Card collection.
Right now, she only has one Card, the Astro card.

Save your game again.

This completes Sequence 1.

SEQUENCE 2 - MAGNAMITE                                             [SEQ002]
==============================

Gain Supersonic Hearing                                            [SEQ02A]
------------------------
Go outside. Push the right analog stick forward and fly straight up
into the air. You will be asked if you want to go to Metro City;
select Yes. This is how you enter Metro City throughout the game.

Normally, you will be taken directly to Metro City. But here, you
will see a cut-scene where Astro gains Supersonic Hearing.

Supersonic Hearing is not a controllable function in this game. All
it means is that Astro will now be able to hear Yuko and O'Shay when
they assign missions to him.


SPIN ATTACK -                                                      [SEQ02D]
-------------------
The Spin Attack is the first special attack that is available. 
It is also the one you will be using the most, so this is a
good time to practice.

You have to be flying to use it. If you are on the ground, push
the right analog forward to make Astro fly.

Fly toward a target until the purple Lock On icon appears. Then
press L1 to lock on to your target. When the Lock On icon is yellow,
hold down Square, and Astro will perform multiple hits with his
fists. (He's not really spinning; he's just flying back and forth,
pounding the target.)

Remember, you need a ***Yellow*** Lock On icon to do this. If you
get too close to the target, the yellow Lock On icon will turn
green, and you will wind up doing a punch instead of a Spin Attack.

Watch Astro's  energy gauge (the red one in the upper left corner
of the screen). When it gets to zero, you need to retreat and
recover energy before you can use Spin Attack again.


Bay Area                                                           [SEQ02B]
----------
You will see a cut-scene where Astro hears Yuko telling him that
O'Shay is missing, and also that Magnamite is going berserk over
in the Bay Area.

To get to the Bay Area, turn Astro a quarter turn to the left. Fly
toward the blue tunnel and go in. You will find yourself on a big
bridge.

You can also use the Minimap in the lower right corner of the screen.
Fly in the direction of the flashing yellow mark.


Magnamite                                                          [SEQ02C]
-----------
O'Shay has been captured by Magnamite and needs Astro to rescue
him.

Magnamite is straight ahead of you on the bridge. You can see
O'Shay's yellow car on top of him.

This battle has two parts.

Part 1 - 

You must take down six tentacles. You need to fight them one at
a time.

First fly into the air by pushing the right analog forward. The
tentacles like to throw boulders and swing around and hit you.
Staying in the air makes it easier to avoid getting attacked.

Now fly toward one of the tentacles. When you see a purple Lock On
icon, press L1. The icon turns yellow, which means you can Spin
Attack. Press and hold down Square, and Astro will proceed to
hit the target a couple of times.

NOTE: It's a lot easier to defeat the tentacles with Spin Attacks
rather than closeup punches.

After a few hits, the tentacle will be stunned and the Lock On
icon will turn green. 

In the lower left, you will see the Special Action screen telling
you to Grab. 

Pull back on the right analog to put Astro back down on the ground,
then run up to the green icon and press Square. This causes Astro
to grab hold of the tentacle.

Using the left analog, pull the tentacle until it snaps. When it
snaps, immediately fly back up in the air to recharge Astro's
energy for the next Spin Attack. It's a good idea to recharge
up in the air where you are much less likely to get attacked.

Attack all the other tentacles the same way until you defeat
six of them.

After six tentacles are defeated, Magnamite will release O'Shay
and his air car.

Part 2 -

Now Astro must fight Magnamite's main body.

To defeat Magnamite's main body, hover around the Lock On icon,
and pound away at him. Remember, you need a green icon to punch
him.

NOTE: Punches work better against Magnamite than Spin Attacks.

Magnamite has a couple of attacks. The first is the Laser Beam, which
he uses at the start of the battle but never uses again. He also
uses physical attacks with his body and electrical attacks. The
attacks look bad, but they actually don't hurt that much. When I
did this battle, Astro was getting hit a lot, but there was still
plenty of health left.

Between his attacks, keep throwing punches at him. It won't be
long before he collapses.

NOTE: Although Magnamite is really big, you can't just hit him
anywhere and expect to do damage. You need to stay next the
Lock On icon and keep pounding it.

When Magnamite is defeated, he rears up, and then collapses noisily
onto the ground.

This is followed by a cut-scene where Astro is restored to full
health and energy.

Now there is a cut-scene where Magnamite asks Astro to absorb some
of his excess energy.

When you regain control, return to Metro City by flying straight
up into the air. In Metro City, find the pink tunnel and return
Home.

Once you're Home, talk to Nora and save your game.


This completes Sequence 2.

SEQUENCE 3 - DENKOU                                                [SEQ003]
===========================

Introduction                                                       [SEQ03A]
--------------
At Home, speak to O'Shay. He thanks Astro for rescuing him, and
suggests that the boy rest. Actually, all you need to do is save
your game after he finishes talking to Astro.

It is night now. Go outside and fly straight up into the air and
go to Metro City.

In the next cut-scene, Yuko sends Astro to Central City to
investigate a string of jewelry robberies.


Central City                                                       [SEQ03B]
--------------
Central City is west of Astro's home.

After you enter Metro City, turn Astro a quarter turn to the left.
Descend a little bit, and then head on out, using the Metro City
map to guide you. Look for a low-lying building with a green roof.
When you get close, you will see the words "Central City" on your
screen.

The entrance is an open doorway on the west (far) side of the
building.

Inside Central City, you will see a circular area. When you go in,
bear left and go into the corridor. 

Find Detective Tawashi standing next to the Sapphire Jewelry Store.
Talk to him and he will tell you to go play somewhere else.

Now go talk to three kids (the easiest way is work your way
around counterclockwise):

a. Abercrombie - tall, blonde heavyset boy in purple outfit with
white long sleeves; standing near the corridor where the detective
was. While talking, select "I'm investigating a crime."

b. Alejo - short girl with orange hair and green shirt; standing
near the Item Shop (looks like an open jewelry display). 

c. Kennedy - boy with dark skin and blue shirt; standing near the
entrance.

At this point, Astro receives a message from O'Shay to check out
the Sapphire Jewelry Store. 

Go back and talk to Tawashi and the three kids again. Again, moving
around counterclockwise is the fastest way to get to everyone.

After Alejo and Kennedy join Abercrombie at the corridor, talk to
the kids one last time.

A short cut-scene takes place where the three kids successfully draw
Tawashi away from the Sapphire Store.

Go into the corridor, and find Denkou.


Gain X-Ray Vision                                                  [SEQ03C]
-------------------
Denkou wants Astro to play with him, and then disappears. When that
happens, Astro gains X-Ray Vision.

To use X-Ray Vision, press R1 to go into X-Ray Vision mode. Press R1
again to turn it off.


Denkou - Part 1                                                    [SEQ03D]
-----------------
Press R1 to go into X-Ray Vision mode. This will also focus the
camera on Denkou's location, making it easier to chase him down.

NOTE: You only have to press R1 once.

When Astro gets close (when the Lock On icon is green), press Square
to grab Denkou and pull him in the opposite direction. This is
how you "attack" Denkou. Keep doing this until he stops.

This is a rather strange battle. First of all, Denkou doesn't
attack Astro; he just runs away.

Also, the game really helps you a lot. It automatically gets
Astro flying or walking whenever either one is necessary. All you
do is use the left analog to get close, then press Square when
the Lock On icon turns green.

You don't need to get really close to grab him. Just get
close enough for the Lock On icon to turn green, then quickly
press Square.


Denkou - Part 2                                                    [SEQ03E]
-----------------
Astro gets a message from the evil Dr. Tenma (Astro's creator) who
says that Denkou has an EMP (electromagnetic pulse) bomb around his
waist which will blow up Central City in three minutes.

You have three (3) minutes to repeat the process of chasing down
Denkou. 

Denkou is running faster now, and he is also jumping around, making
it a lot harder to keep up with him.

Press R1 once, and start flying after him.

Again, you don't need to get really close to grab him. If you wait
until you're really close, you may take too long and run out of time.
I just grabbed him twice and the battle was over.

After Denkou is "defeated," Astro is restored to full health and
energy. This is followed by a cut-scene with Denkou, and then the
game gives you the chance to save your game. Go ahead and save.


This completes Sequence 3.

SEQUENCE 4 - ATLAS   I                                             [SEQ004]
==============================

Introduction                                                       [SEQ04A]
--------------

This is the first real "dungeon" of the game. And like any dungeon,
you will not be able to save your game until it's all over. So you
need to watch your health carefully the entire time. (Astro's
health bar is the blue bar in the top left corner of the screen.)

At home, talk to O'Shay. He says the EMP was built using many of
Dr Tenma's techniques. Astro apparently doesn't know who Tenma is,
but O'Shay is unable to tell him the whole story. Instead,
he suggests that Astro find out what Denkou was up to.

Go outside and fly directly upwards and go to Metro City. There,
Astro will receive a message from Yuko advising him to use his
X-Ray Vision.

But you don't need X-Ray Vision. Just turn a 1/4 turn to the left,
and head toward the olive green tunnel (Industrial Area). It's
right next to the Home entrance.

You may run into some bats around the entrance of the Industrial
Area. Ignore them and go in. You need to save your health for the
following battle.


Renegade Robots                                                    [SEQ04E]
----------------

After you enter the Industrial Area, you will meet a frantic robot
who needs your help dealing with some renegade robots prowling the
streets.

You will find robots on hoverbikes and mechanized bats. Both move
very fast and have high evasion. 

My biggest problem was the foes swarming all over me, and Astro only
being able to hit one foe at a time. The hoverbike guys are ramming
into you, and the bats are firing rays, causing lots of damage.

The solution is basically to use the Spin Attack. But if you're 
having trouble dealing with all the fast-moving, swarming conditions,
here is a little trick that might help.

The moment the battle began, fly straight up, high into the air.
This is your safe zone: no one attacks you here. This is where you
can recover energy so you can use Spin Attack again.

The thing about the hoverbikes/bats is that if you try to attack
them near the ground, they can easily dart away and hide behind
the many trees and structures found in the area. The Spin Attack
becomes totally useless when this happens.

The trick is to attack a foe when he is not so close to the ground.

So while you are up in the air, look down and see what foes are
running around. Now, slowly descend toward them, and the minute you
see a  Lock On icon, hit L1 to target. The icon should turn YELLOW,
which means you are far enough away to use Spin Attack. Immediately,
hold down Square and beat him to pieces. You won't get swarmed while
doing the Spin Attack.

Now, fly back up again to your safe zone. Recover your energy if
you need to, and repeat the process.

If everything works right, you should be able to do this entire
battle without losing much health.



Gain Digibeam                                                      [SEQ04B]
---------------
When the renegades have been defeated, go up the steep steps and
enter the building (Denkou's Tower). There is an elevator platform
directly ahead of you. Step onto it, press Square ("Search")
and go down.

Downstairs, move toward the picture of the robot (Atlas) on your
right and press Square ("Search").

A holograph of Dr. Tenma appears. He wants to know how strong "Tobio"
has become, and unleashes a swarm of mechanized bees to attack him.

Just before the bees attack, Astro will gain the Digibeam ability.
It's like a laser beam weapon, and you use it by pressing Circle.


Bee Attack                                                         [SEQ04C]
------------
As long as the bee hives are around, the bees will just keep
respawning over and over. So your goal is to destroy the hives.

The "hives" look like mailboxes. There are three of them: one
directly behind the spot where Tenma appeared, and one on each side.

The hives can be easily taken out with about three punches each.
The trick is getting to them. The bees swarm all over you and can
knock you away with their attacks. If the bees get really bad,
use the Digibeam (Circle) to destroy some of them.

When all three hives are gone, you have to kill all the remaining
bees before you can continue. Just use the Digibeam.

Try to save as much health as you can for the battle with Atlas.


Metal Door                                                         [SEQ04D]
------------
After the bee fight is over, jump onto the elevator and go back
up. You will find the exit blocked by a metal door.

You will receive a message from Yuko advising you to use the
Digibeam. Do it. The door should come open after you use about
half of your energy.

If you want, pause for a few seconds to regain some energy before
going outside.


Atlas I                                                             [SEQ04E]
---------
Outside, Atlas flies in on his hoverbike.

Atlas is a boy robot who is determined to destroy Astro and any
other robot "puppet" of the humans.

If you're low on health, smash the three blue boxes around the
perimeter for health boosts.

What makes this tricky is that the camera controls are disabled
during this battle, and they swerve around crazily when you get
close to a blue box. Keeping Astro on foot, however, will make it a
lot easier to maintain your bearings around the circle.

Of course, Atlas is on your tail the entire time. But you have an
advantage: Atlas is *really* lousy at hitting moving targets! If
you're lucky, you'll be able to get your health boosts without
getting hit.

Now you're ready for Atlas.

I use Spin Attacks for the entire battle. The game says you can
pick up light poles and use them like clubs. But I prefer not
getting so close to Atlas as his attacks can cause a lot of damage.

You will already see a yellow icon on Atlas when the battle begins.
So just start flying in circles to avoid his attacks. Atlas can't
hit you if you are moving sideways.

When flying, don't get too far from him. You want to be close enough
to reach him quickly, but not so close that the yellow Lock On icon
turns green.

The best time to attack is right after he releases an electrical
cloud. Once the cloud is gone, press Square and Spin Attack.

I recommend Spin Attacking for three hits, and then moving away.
Three hits is about the most you can do at your present energy
capability. Also, you don't want to spend too much time near him
or you will get hit.

When Atlas is down to about 1/2 health, he starts using an energy
ray as well as the electrical cloud. Now, the best time to attack
is right after the energy ray.

In general, don't rush. Let your energy gauge refill. Remember,
he can't hit you while you are flying in circles.

Some guides recommend knocking Atlas into a propane tank when he's
stunned, but you don't need to do that. Once his health goes to
zero, the battle is over.

The game also tells you about Quick Dash (left analog plus "X")
to help you avoid attacks. I never used it because I was able to
avoid Atlas' attacks by just moving sideways.

When Atlas is defeated, you will get a chance to save your game.
Do so, then fly straight up into the air to return to Metro City
and return Home.


This completes Sequence 4.

SEQUENCE 5 - VENUS ROBOTS                                          [SEQ005]
==============================

Introduction                                                       [SEQ05A]
--------------
At Home, talk with O'Shay and Zoran, then go outside, go to Metro
City, then enter the Ministry of Science (go to the very top of the
tall tower right in front of you).

(If you try to go to Metro City without talking to O'Shay first,
you will run into a horde of bats, and you won't find O'Shay at
the Ministry.)

At the Ministry, Astro overhears a conversation between Tenma and
O'Shay. Tenma wants to take Astro away, but O'Shay refuses.

Talk with O'Shay, and you will get another distress mission from
Yuko.

Exit the Ministry of Science and go to Bay Area (the blue tunnel
toward the west). Follow the minimap to get there.


Venus Robots                                                       [SEQ05B]
-------------
After Astro arrives in Bay Area, you will see a cut-scene showing
several red robots jumping onto the road. However, during the
actual battle, you will only see a few robots at a time.

Your mission is to take out 20 ice robots.

When you attack one robot, it rolls up into a ball. You can then
grab it and throw it at another robot for a second quick kill.
The only problem is that this exposes you to their ice attacks
which can cause you a lot of damage if they hit you enough.

But if you want to avoid their ice attacks, Spin Attacks are
the way to go. They won't attack you if you are in the air.

The counter to the right keeps track of your victories.

By the way, the camera controls (L2 and R2) are often disabled
throughout this fight and the next. So watch out for that.


Gain Power of Analyzation                                          [SEQ05C]
---------------------------
After defeating 20 robots, Astro will gain the Power of
Analyzation, which enables him to understand all languages.

This is not a controllable function; it happens automatically.

Astro translates what the robots are saying. Then he receives
a call from O'Shay to leave Bay Area to defend the Ministry
of Science.

Fly straight up into the air, and the game will automatically
take you to the next battle.

You will see a short cut-scene that shows the gold-red ice robot 
marching toward the Ministry.


Venus Robot Leader                                                 [SEQ05D]
--------------------
The Venus Robot Leader (yellow and red) and his smaller minions
are marching on the Ministry. Taking out the Leader will take
everyone out.

You need to target the boss before attacking him. For me, this
was the hardest job because it is tough to lock on to just the
Leader with all the little robots standing near him.

Once locked, just Spin Attack over and over. This is not a hard
fight, but it will take several attack cycles to knock him out.
Staying in the air will protect you from the boss' ice attacks.
Also, the minions disappear.

When he turns into a ball, he becomes invulnerable. Just wait
for him to resume his normal form, then resume your attacks.

Toward the end of the battle, Astro's attacks may cause
the boss to fall off the bridge. The boss will then be out of
range for your Spin Attack. Just stay around the bridge area
and wait for the boss to come back. When he returns, use L1 to
retarget him. All the minions have disappeared, so this isn't
quite so hard. Then resume your attacks.

When the Venus Robot Leader goes down, Astro will be restored
to full health and energy. You will see then see a cut-scene
that explains why the Venus robots attacked the Ministry and
who was responsible.

Save your game when offered.


This completes Sequence 5.

SEQUENCE 6 - ATLAS II                                              [SEQ006]
==============================

Introduction                                                       [SEQ06A]
--------------
Go to the Ministry of Science and speak with O'Shay. Watch the cut-
scene showing the history of Dr. Tenma and the creation of Astro.

Yuko enters frantically, crying that"Astro" is destroying Metro City.

Exit the Ministry of Science.


Robot Attack #1                                                    [SEQ06B]
----------------
Astro needs to find and defeat five robots who are "impersonating"
him. (Actually, they don't look anything like Astro.)

You don't have to actually find the robots to start the battle.
After you exit the Ministry of Science, just fly east toward the
"X" that you see in the minimap. The game will start the battle
for you when you are close enough.

Use Spin Attacks to take out the robots.

When the robots are defeated, you will see a cut-scene of Tenma.

After the cut-scene ends, Astro will gain the Arm Cannon.


Gain the Arm Cannon                                                [SEQ06C]
---------------------

The Arm Cannon causes a lot more damage than either Spin Attack
or Digibeam. It also has a very long range, which allows you to
attack from a far distance.

To use the Arm Cannon, lock onto the target with L1, then hold
Triangle for about two seconds, then RELEASE. This is different
from the Spin Attack and the Digibeam where you have to hold down
the face button continuously.

NOTE: You do not need a yellow Lock On to use the Arm Cannon.

The Arm Cannon doesn't use that much energy. You can use it three
or four times before you run out of energy.

The Arm Cannon never misses. Even if you are far away, as long as 
the Lock On icon is in sight, you will hit the target.

There is also no noticeable delay between uses, allowing you to
attack several times before you run out of energy.

The only disadvantage is that Astro has to stand still for a few
moments while using it. This makes him very vulnerable if there
are untargeted enemies near by.


Robot Attack #2                                                    [SEQ06D]
-----------------------
After gaining the Arm Cannon, Astro will be attacked by another
set of robots.

These robots are harder than the first set because they fly a lot
faster and have very high evasion.

It is also very easy to lose them because they can fly fast and
hide. Do your best to keep them in sight, or you will be spending
a lot of time just looking for them.

Target one of them immediately, then fly as far as you can without
losing sight of them. They will not follow you, but you will still
be in range to use the Arm Cannon.

Now, start firing the Arm Cannon at your target. The Arm Cannon
is pretty effective. Sometimes you wind up hitting more than one
at a time.

If you lose your Lock on a target, just fly toward them a little bit
until the Lock On icon reappears. Hit L1 to retarget, then fire the
Arm Cannon again.

When the robots are defeated, Atlas will appear.


Atlas II                                                           [SEQ06E]
----------
Atlas returns for a rematch.

(For some reason, my Arm Cannon attacks didn't have any effect
on him. It's possible I was too far away, but I really didn't
want to risk getting attacked while trying to get closer.)

Except for the addition of his own Arm Cannon, Atlas is the
same as he was in the Industrial Area. So I basically attacked
him with Spin Attacks like before.

This is not a hard battle.

First, I locked on (L1), then flew all the way up into the sky
until I couldn't go any further, then started flying sideways.
I waited until he used his Arm Cannon (the whole place goes dark
when he uses it), then Spin Attacked him. When my energy was used
up, I flew back up and flew sideways and waited for Atlas' next
Arm Cannon attack.

As long as I was high above him and moving sideways, none of
his attacks could hit me, not even his Arm Cannon. When I was
flying high, I was literally scraping the boundary (I could
see the green flashes as Astro scraped the boundary).

After Atlas goes down, Astro is once more restored to full
health, and you are given the chance to save your game.

Atlas' final words are: "Why can't I win?! Our power is equal!
What do you have that I don't have?!"


This completes Sequence 6.



==============================
SEQUENCE 7 - PLUTO                                                 [SEQ007]
==============================

Introduction                                                       [SEQ07A]
--------------
At Home, talk with O'Shay. The room will suddenly start to shake,
and O'Shay tells Astro to go outside and see what's going on.
Outside, Astro meets Pluto, a giant robot who challenges him
to a duel.

Go back inside, save your game, then go to the Industrial Area
(go to Metro City, then head toward the green tunnel to your left).


Robot Battles                                                      [SEQ07B]
--------------
Before the Pluto fight, Astro must defeat four sets of robots:

1. Three purple robots
2. Two flamethrower robots
3. Three more purple robots
4. Two more flamethrower robots

By now, you've learned that the purpose of these battles is to bleed
Astro of health prior to the boss battle. And like before, you need
to get through these battles quickly to minimize damage.

My biggest problem with these robots is that they often attack you
when they are off screen. Unfortunately, the camera controls are
so slow that by the time you bring them back on screen, they have
already attacked you.


Robot Battles - Purple Robots                                      [SEQ07C]
-------------------------------
When the battle begins, fly into the air and lock on to one of them
with L1. Then use Spin Attack.

It takes only two or three hits with Spin Attack, the robot will
be stunned. A "Grab" message will appear in the lower left portion
of your screen. Fly toward the stunned robot. When the Lock On
icon turns green, press Square to grab him.

NOTE: Like with Denkou, you don't have to be really close to
use Grab. Once the Lock On icon turns green, press Square no
matter where you are.

Now rotate the left analog stick counterclockwise to start spinning
the robot around. Once Astro is spinning at full speed, let go of
the stick and he will continue to spin on his own.

Press Square to throw the robot into one of the nearby structures.
If the robot crashes into an object, he dies. But if the robot
doesn't hit anything, then he will come back to attack again.
Throwing is a bit tricky because the rapid spinning makes it hard
to time your throw right.

One additional problem is that if another robot is still flying
around, he may strike you, causing you to free the stunned robot
before you can throw him. There's nothing you can do about this
because once Astro is in spin mode, you can't move him anywhere.
Luckily, this doesn't happen too often.

Use Spin Attacks and Grab-Spin-Throw to take out the other
two robots.


Robot Battles - Flamethrower Robots                                [SEQ07D]
-------------------------------------
The Flamethrower Robots actually go down pretty easily; one
Arm Cannon shot will kill them both if they are close to each.
The problem is doing it without sustaining damage.

The flamethrower robots are not as fast as the purple robots,
but they often attack you when they are off screen. The game
will not let you target/attack anything that is not on screen.

Basically, I just let them hit me and then fired the Arm Cannon
at them. It's an easy one-hit kill, but you will sustain damage.

If your health is low, smash open the three blue boxes that are
on the ground around the perimeter to replenish health.

If your health is REALLY low, you may want to soft reboot
(L1+L2+R1+R2+Select+Start) and try again. You'll need plenty of
health for Pluto.


Pluto                                                              [SEQ07E]
-------
Pluto appears right after all the robot battles are completed.

In my opinion, Pluto is easier than the previous robots because
he is always on screen, and you can evade his attacks pretty
easily. He has lots of health, however, so you have to outlast
him.

Pluto fires missiles and has a tornado attack. He can also jump
high into the air and whack you with his hand. When his health gets
really low, he will replace the tornado with an energy beam that
looks like a flamethrower attack.

When the battle begins, target Pluto with L1. Then fly up high into
the air. Flying high and sideways is the easiest way to avoid his
attacks.

Be sure you are very high. If you run into one of the tall
structures, Pluto will be able to hit you easily.

Your weapons against Pluto are 

a. Spin Attacks - Do these when you have lots of energy, and when
Pluto is between attacks.

b. Arm Cannon - Best time to do this is right after Pluto's tornado
attack. He takes a long time to slow down, and that gives you lots
of time to charge up a really big Arm Cannon shot

c. Grab-Spin-Throw - This attack seems to do the most damage to
him. If you came into this fight without a lot of health, then
you should try to Grab-Spin-Throw as often as you can.

The easiest way to evade his tornado attack is to land on the ground
and WALK away from him. Pluto's tornado is very weak when you are on
the ground.

In summary:

1. Keep flying in circles to avoid his attacks.

2. Use lots of Spin Attacks. He can't attack you during Spin Attacks.

3. Use the Arm Cannon after tornado attacks. Hold down the Triangle
   while he is slowing down to charge up a really good Arm Cannon
   shot.

4. Use Grab-Spin-Throw to take him out faster, especially if
   you come into this battle low on health.
   
5. Walk on the ground to easily evade his tornado attack.

NOTE: You will NOT be able to save your game right after Pluto
goes down! But don't worry - you only have to sit through a few 
cut-scenes (described below), and then you can save!


Gain 1 Million HP Strength                                         [SEQ07F]
----------------------------
After Pluto goes down, you will see a cut-scene involving Dr. Tenma,
Pluto, a new robot (who looks a lot like Pluto) and a mysterious
hooded character. 

Pluto gives Astro a special gift, then the new robot destroys
Pluto and knocks out Astro.

At this point, Dr. Tenma will grant a "final gift" to Astro:
1 Million Horsepower Strength.

One Million Horsepower Strength sounds more impressive than it
really is though. It's a requirement for some of the Character
Cards. But in boss fights, you can't see any difference.

When you finally regain control, you will find yourself inside
the same building where you fought the bees. Go up the white
elevator and exit the building.

Astro will now receive a distress message from Yuko regarding the
Brokken Volcano.

Fly straight up into the air to return to Metro City.

Now you will get the chance to save your game.



This completes Sequence 7.

SEQUENCE 8 - BROKKEN VOLCANO                                       [SEQ008]
==============================

The flashing yellow circle on the mini-map is your destination:
Brokken Volcano. Fly to the red-orange tunnel in the northwest
area of Metro City to enter.


Brokken Volcano                                                    [SEQ08B]
-----------------
Brokken Volcano is a 12-zone dungeon crawl.

Try to avoid battles and save your health for the boss fight with
Acheron. The foes are all spread out, and the camera controls are
rather slow, making it difficult to know where everyone is. But
do your best. If you can keep about 3/4 of your health, that
should be plenty for Acheron.

Here is a zone-by-zone description of Brokken Volcano. After you
enter the red-orange tunnel in Metro City, you will automatically
find yourself in Zone 01.

Zone 01 - Corridor. Fly straight through to the opposite end. Use 
          the Arm Cannon to blast your way through the rock wall
          to expose the door hidden behind it. Exit through the door.

Zone 02 - Corridor. (same as Zone 01)

Zone 03 - Cylinder-shape area ("First Volcano"). Fly toward the
          bottom and find the green door embedded in the wall.
          Watch out for the bats and the red robots that are
          firing energy beams at you. Use the Arm Cannon to blast
          your way through the green door, then exit through the
          new door behind it.

Zone 04 - Corridor. Fly straight through to the opposite end.
          Watch out for the floating mines. When you reach the end,
          blast your way through, and exit through the door.

Zone 05 - Cylinder-shape area ("Second Volcano"). (same as Zone 03)

Zone 06 - Corridor. Fly straight through to the opposite end.
          Watch out for the spires that shoot out from the bottom.

Zone 07 - Cylinder-shape area ("Third Volcano"). (same as Zone 03)

Zone 08 - Corridor. Fly straight through to the opposite end.
          Flying close to the wall will help you avoid attacks.

Zone 09 - ("Fourth Volcano") Fly straight down to find the
          green door.

Zone 10 - Corridor. Fly straight through to the opposite end. Stay
          close to the wall to avoid attacks.

Zone 11 - Cylinder-shape area ("Fifth Volcano"). (same as Zone 03)

Zone 12 - Corridor. (same as Zone 01)



Acheron                                                            [SEQ08C]
----------

(pronounced ASH-eh-ron)

You will see a cut-scene with Acheron and Shadow. These were
the mysterious visitors that appeared at the end of the fight
with Pluto.

The boss fight only involves Acheron. Shadow does not fight.

Acheron not only looks like Pluto, he even has the same attacks:,
missiles, tornado, and the energy beam. In addition, he can cause
spires to shoot up out of the ground (the spires retract back
into the ground after a couple of seconds).

The fighting area here LOOKS big, but it's really not: the
zone barriers are invisible! When I first did this battle, I kept
running into the zone barriers, literally backing myself into a
corner and making myself an easy target for Acheron's attacks.

The trick is to stay within the little island area as much as you
can. As long as the island is visible, you won't run into any
barriers. You will still be able to avoid his attacks (including
the spires) even though you are actually closer to him.

Although Acheron's attacks are identical to Pluto's, I still
had to adjust my approach. For Spin Attacks, I limited my hits
to about five, then flew away. Acheron uses his big attacks
more often than Pluto did. So if you're not watching, you may
fly right into one of them, disrupting your Spin Attack.

I also tended to use the Arm Cannon a little more. I was able
to use it after almost all his big attacks, including the
missiles. Acheron doesn't seem to be as quick on his feet as
Pluto; he seems to rely a lot more on his big attacks.

Being able to use the Arm Cannon more really helps to take him
down more quickly.

I hardly ever used Grab-Spin-Throw during this battle. Acheron
recovers from being stunned a LOT faster than Pluto. By the time
I got close enough to grab him, he would be ready to attack me.

So here's what I did instead. If the "Grab" message appeared
during a Spin Attack, I just continued the Spin Attack. If it
appeared after using the Arm Cannon, I'd wait for the message
to disappear, then Spin Attack.

In summary:

1. When the battle begins, start flying sideways.

2. Stay within the island area to avoid flying into the invisible
   zone barriers when he's chasing you.

3. Use Spin Attacks  but don't combo too long (maybe five hits).
   He will most likely throw one of his big attacks and disrupt you.

4. When he uses tornado, land on the ground and walk away for an
   easy evasion.

5. Use Arm Cannon as often as you can, especially after any of
   his big attacks. Always use Arm Cannon after a tornado.

6. Be careful when grabbing him for a spin because he does not
   stay stunned very long.


Post-Acheron                                                       [SEQ08D]
---------------

After Acheron goes down, you will see a short cut-scene with Shadow.

The roof of the cave will open up. Return to Metro City by flying
straight up through the opening.

Save your game when offered the chance.

Astro will get a new distress message from Yuko.


This completes Sequence 8.

SEQUENCE 9 - EAGLE BUILDING                                        [SEQ009]

Introduction                                                       [SEQ09A]

The Eagle Building is shown on the mini-map as the eastern-most 
yellow dot. From Home, fly east toward the yellow dot, then descend
until the Eagle Building comes into view. It is an off-white
colored building with an eagle head sculpture at the top.

The entrance is on the western wall, directly below the eagle's face.

NOTE: There is no boss fight in Sequence 9.

Swarm of bees. Target them with L1 and use the Digibeam
(hold down Circle). You'll wipe them all out in a second.

There are two boxes, one ahead of you, and another to your right.
They are grey with blue corners. Smash them both for health boosts.

Exit through the door on your right.


Hallway 01                                                         [SEQ09C]
------------
There are two spider-like robots on the floor and two
floating mines. The Digibeam will destroy all of them.


Room 02                                                            [SEQ09D]
--------
Shield-bearing robots and two bomb machines. You need to smash
the bomb machines to them to stop spewing out floating missiles.
Punches seem to work better than Arm Cannon or Digibeam.

Smash the two grey boxes after you take out the bomb machines.


Room 03                                                            [SEQ09E]
--------
Use Spin Attacks to take out the shield bots and the robot
on the floor.

Exit through the door on the right. If you get mixed up, look
for the big "03" on the floor in front of one of the walls.
Stand on top of it so it appears right-side up. Go right from there.


Hallway 02                                                         [SEQ09F]
------------
There are two robots that emit energy barriers. The robots will
not attack you, but you cannot destroy them either. You have
to run through the hall when their energy barriers are down.

Stand and watch them for a few moments to get a feel for where
the barriers are and how often they appear and disappear.

Approach the first barrier, and when it disappears, go through.
Do the same with the second barrier.

Exit through the door ahead of you.


Room 04                                                            [SEQ09G]

Destroy the shield bots.

Exit through the door on the right.


Room 05                                                            [SEQ09H]
--------
Bees, bee hive, and more shield bots. I used Spin Attacks to take
out the big targets, then Digibeam to take out the bees. Punches
can take out any remaining bots.

Smash the two grey boxes for health boosts.

Exit through the door on the right. If your energy is low, wait
a few seconds for Astro to recharge before you exit.


Room 06                                                            [SEQ09I]
--------
One big robot. Spin Attacks will take him out in four or five strikes.

Smash any grey boxes for health boosts. Wait for Astro to fully
recharge his energy, then exit through the door on the left.


Hallway 03                                                         [SEQ09J]
------------
This is a weird place. You can't see the energy barriers, and
watching the little round robots tells you absolutely nothing about
the barriers. Also, there is an invisible robot who will suddenly
appear and fire at you.

All you can do is start running. You will probably get hit with
something. But if you have been getting your health boosts from 
the grey boxes, youll be okay.

Exit through the door at the end.


Hallway 04                                                         [SEQ09K]
------------
This is the final zone of this rather long dungeon crawl.

Hallway 04 is a long winding corridor with 14 door openings.

All you have to do is fly through all 14 red door openings. The
doors are closing as you approach. But if you fly close to the
ground, you will easily be able to make it through in time. 

There are foes all throughout. Ignore them and keep flying.

When you reach the end of this zone, you will see a cut-scene
of Shadow's rocket taking off.

At the end of the cut-scene, fly straight up into the air and
return to Metro City.

This completes Sequence 9.

CARD COLLECTION                                                    [CRDCOL]
=========================
This is a good time to collect the 85 cards hidden throughout this
game. With Astro now in possession of all his special abilities,
you can now go collect cards without having to worry about the
prerequisites.

Most of the cards are very easy to obtain. I gathered 80 in only
two days.

The best way to collect them quickly is to do one area at a time.
Use the Card Location information to find out what to look for in
each area.

Start with Astro's Neighborhood, then go on to the Industrial Area,
Central City, and Bay Area.

To get the Cards in the Eagle Building and Brokken Volcano, you will
have to go through the entire dungeon crawls again, dealing with
the monsters as well. Don't worry: as you've found out, the monsters
aren't very hard. There are also LOTS of health boosts in the "hidden"
rooms if you need them.

The seven cards of the "Sharaku" story need to be obtained
in a specific order:

SEQUENCE 10 - BLUE KNIGHT, FORTIFIED ROCKET                        [SEQ010]

Astro receives a distress call from Dr. O'Shay the next time he 
enters Metro City.

Go to the Ministry of Science and talk to O'Shay. Agree to go 
into space.

NOTES: 
1. There are NO SAVE POINTS during this entire Sequence.
2. You cannot save the results of Sequence 10 after you finish it.
3. You get a one-time restoration to full health and energy right
   before the Fortified Rocket battle.


Space Robots                                                       [SEQ10B]
--------------
You will see cut-scenes of Astro's friends cheering him on, and
Astro flying into space.

The first battle involves ten (10) hostile space robots.

This is not a hard battle, but you must try to get through it while
taking as little damage as possible. Except for the health boosts
dropped by the robots, you will not get another chance to replenish
Astro's health before the long Blue Knight battle that follows.

NOTE: There are no health boosts during the battle with the Blue
Knight.

There are two types of space robots:

1. Big robots (2 sets of 2): big, brawny robots that will punch
you if you get too close; they come in pairs, with each robot
moving back and forth in the opposite direction from the other
one. Also, big robots can cure themselves.

2. Shield robots (2 sets of 3): they carry shields and use ray
guns.

When the battle begins, you meet the first trio of shield robots.

Immediately Lock on (L1) and Spin Attack (Square). Do this the
entire time; it's the only kind of attack that damages them
quickly. Astro automatically goes after all three shield robots
during the Spin Attack.

It takes 12 hits to knock out a group of shield robots. Release
the Square button immediately after 12 hits (easiest way is to
count the # of times Astro says "HUH!"), or else Astro will
zoom way out into space and get lost.

Stay right where you are and recharge some of your energy back.

Next up are two pairs of big robots. These robots are moving in
opposite directions. Wait until they are far apart, then Spin
Attack them one at a time.

It takes 5 hits to knock out a single big robot. As with the
shield robots, release the Square button after 5 hits so Astro
doesn't zoom out into space.

NOTE: I found that if you start your Spin Attack from far away,
the big robot is less likely to hit you. I'm not sure why; maybe
being far away allows Astro to accelerate more and attack faster.

The big robots drop health/energy boosts (they look like blue
globes floating in space). If you fly toward them, they will fly
toward you, making it a lot easier to pick them up.

After you knock out the two pairs of big robots, you will meet
three more shield robots. Spin Attack them 12 times like before
and you're done.

Here are some tips to minimize damage during this battle:

a. Don't attack a big robot if there are any other big robots
or shield robots near by.

b. Don't attack the shield robots if there are any big robots
near by.

c. After defeating one of the big robots, it's a good idea
to fly away because sometimes you will get attacked by
off-screen robots that sneak up on you while you were fighting.

There are several reasons for this. If a robot is close enough,
he can attack you even if he is off-camera. Also, there is no
mini-map to show you where all the other robots are. Finally,
the camera controls are very slow. By the time you swing a camera
around to see an off-camera robot, he has already hit you.


The Blue Knight (with Leto)                                        [SEQ10C]
----------------------------
After all the Space Robots are defeated, the Blue Knight and his
horse Leto appear. In the cut-scene, Astro refuses to join his
fight against the humans. So the Blue Knight takes him on.

When you regain control, the Blue Knight starts charging at you
in an attempt to knock you around. Fly sideways to avoid these
attacks.

The moment the horse passes by you, press Square and Spin Attack
(he puts up an invulnerable force field after three hits, so three
is usually all you'll be able to do), then move away by flying
sideways again.

The Blue Knight's force field will wear off after a few seconds,
then he will charge you again. Attack as before. Use this pattern
over and over for the entire battle with Leto.

Sometimes the Blue Knight will throw a bunch of flaming orange
balls at you. Just pull back on the right analog stick while flying
sideways. This causes Astro to move downward and avoid the flaming
balls. This trick always works for me.

At about 1/3 health or in the red zone, the Blue Knight starts
using flaming sword attacks. Pulling back on the right analog
works here, too.

NOTE: You must pull back the right analog moment he starts riding
or else you will get hit.

In other words, you have to protect yourself from the attack
even though it hasn't even started yet. I know that's not logical,
but that's what worked for me.

Whether or not you evade the flaming sword attack, keep Spin
Attacking after he rides past you like before.

Avoid using the Arm Cannon. The moment he sees you using it, he
will hit you before you even get a chance to fire it.

Preserve your health as much as possible. It's actually not that
hard to do if you stick with Spin Attacks.


The Blue Knight (without Leto)                                     [SEQ10D]
---------------------------------
When Leto the Horse is damaged beyond use, the Blue Knight
dismounts and continues the fight on foot.

The Blue Knight's main attacks are blue laser rays followed by
orange fireballs.

This battle can be very difficult. But I discovered a trick that
made this fight a LOT easier for me:

****NEVER FLY TOO FAR AWAY FROM HIM!****

That's it!

Here's why it works. If you are really far away, his orange
fireballs will almost always hit you, and you won't last long
enough to beat him. But by flying closer, you can reach him faster,
and there is a greater chance of interfering with his fireball
attack while at the same time doing some good damage to him.

Here is the pattern I used over and over in the entire battle:

1. The moment the battle starts, fly sideways a little to
avoid his opening sword swing. (You WILL get hit if you don't
do this because Astro is right next to him when the battle
begins!)

2. Now, keep flying sideways but don't stray too far from him.
The best way to measure this is to stay just far enough to
keep the yellow Lock On icon from turning green. If it turns
green, he will try to punch you, and he rarely misses.

2. Wait for his blue laser attack. Keep flying sideways
to avoid the lasers. (You will NEVER get hit by the lasers
if you are flying sideways.)

3. The moment all the lasers are gone, Spin Attack and hit him
three times, then fly away and start flying sideways again.

4. Wait for his next blue laser attack and repeat.

Repeat this pattern during the entire battle. You may still
get hit by his attacks (mainly the fireballs), but if you stick
to attacking only after the lasers, you will last a lot longer.

Remember, you need a *yellow* Lock On icon to do a Spin Attack.
If you're too close, the Lock On icon will turn green, and then
pressing Square will cause a punch instead of a Spin Attack.

The Blue Knight can make himself invulnerable to long combos by
putting his arms up in front of him. It will sound like you're
hitting metal when you strike him. Because of that, stick with
three  (sometimes four hits at a time, then move away and wait
for the next laser attack.

As he gets low on health, the Blue Knight may go invulnerable
after a single Spin Attack hit. So to prevent wasting energy,
just switch to one-hit attacks. It's slower, but it avoids
his attacks.

Don't try to attack after the fireballs. He will use them a LOT
more if you attack him after fireballs. Fireballs are a lot
harder to avoid (lasers are easy), and there is a greater
chance that he will go invulnerable after throwing a fireball
rather than after a laser attack. So if a fireball hits you,
just take the hit and keep flying sideways. Wait for the next
blue laser attack to attack him again.

A word about Quick Dash (X + Left Analog): this move is supposed
to help you avoid the fireballs. But Astro would just go through
a strange contortion, and still get hit. So I stopped using it.
But I have won this battle dozens of times without it.

NOTE: After the Blue Knight is beaten, Astro will be restored to
full health and energy.

So don't be too worried about saving your health for the rocket
battle

Remember: don't fly too far away from him, and only attack after
the blue lasers, and you will make this battle a LOT easier!



Fortified Rocket                                                   [SEQ10E]
--------------------

Introduction:                                                      [SEQ10F]
***************

After you finish the battle with Blue Knight, you will see a 
cut-scene with the Blue Knight and Shadow.

Then the final battle of the game begins.

You have eight minutes to defeat the Fortified Rocket.

The Rocket is essentially a vehicle in constant motion that sends
out laser rays and an endless stream of time bombs and missiles.
The Time Bombs and Missiles seem to have homing capability which
makes it hard to avoid them even when you are far away.

If you run out of time, or are knocked out, you will get a Game Over
screen. Select "One More Time" (it's the default choice), and you
will be taken back to the beginning of the rocket battle with Astro
at full health. 

You will NOT have to repeat the battles with the space robots and
the Blue Knight.

Tips:                                                              [SEQ10G]
***************

I played Scene 10 several times before writing this Walkthrough.
And while beating Blue Knight has become quite easy for me, it
still takes me a couple of attempts to beat the Fortified Rocket.

However, after a lot of trial and error, I discovered a few tips
that helped me a lot:


a. This is a Spin Attack operation
-----------------------------------

There are guides that suggest using the Arm Cannon against
the rocket. For me, the Arm Cannon was too risky because
Astro stands still while using it, making him a very easy
target for all the bombs flying around.

I recommend sticking with Spin Attacks throughout.


b. Flying with the Square button
----------------------------------

If you were like me, you spent most of this game flying with the
left analog stick.

But Astro flies a lot faster with Square. If you don't know how
to fly with the Square button, you will need to learn now because
it is the only way to keep up with the rocket.

To fly with Square, first push the left analog to get Astro going
in the right direction. This is important: it is very hard to 
turn him around once he starts flying fast. (If he is already
facing the desired direction, then skip this step.)

Now, hold down Square. Release the left analog right after you
press Square.

As you hold down Square, the left analog changes function: it acts
like the right analog! Now when you push forward or pull back on
the left analog, Astro will ascend or descend. 

Pushing the left analog left or right will still move Astro
sideways, but not enough to do tight turns like 180-degree turns,
for example.

The first time you try this, you will feel out of control.
But with a little practice, you will get the hang of it.

The trick is trying to go back and forth between the two flying
methods while at the same time punching L1 to lock on to the
desired target.


c. Using L1 to Locate and Flee
--------------------------------

The L1 button is used to target a foe. You need to do that to
Spin Attack. But once you use up your energy, you can't hang
around the rocket to recharge because there are time bombs
and missiles swarming all over the place. You have to press
L1 to release the Lock and fly far away.

Will you get lost? In this battle, no. To bring the rocket
back on screen, just press L1. Then use the Square to quickly
fly back to it. (If you try to fly with the left analog, you
will never catch up; it's too slow.)

What this means is that you can fly as far as you want to recharge
energy and avoid the bombs, and not have to worry about getting
back to the rocket.


d. Preserve health at the beginning; but toward the end, attack
at all costs
---------------------------------------------------------------

This may seem obvious, but I'm saying it for emphasis.

You will need plenty of health for the end of the battle when you
are attacking all-out in order to beat the clock while dealing
with swarms of time bombs.

If you find yourself losing a lot of health early, you may want
to just let the clock run out and start again. 

NOTE: Don't use Soft Reset, or you will have to do the entire scene
all over again!


***************
Strategy:                                                          [SEQ10H]
***************

The battle begins with Astro hovering behind the rocket.

DO NOT ATTACK THE BACK END! The rocket is sending out green lasers
here that will knock off 1/5 health with every hit!

Instead, use the Square to fly past the back end and move near the
FRONT end. If you have a hard time moving forward, make sure you
didn't accidentally lock on to the back end; press L1 to release
the lock so you can move.

Once you are safely at the front end, use L1 to lock on to one
of the three side drills. Each one will cost the rocket about
1/5 health, so knocking them off is a great way to make fast
progress early.

The Lock On icon is a bit flaky; you may need to move Astro
around and spam L1 a bit before the Lock On icon locks on to
what you want.

NOTE: Be sure you don't accidentally lock on to the back end!

Now Spin Attack the drill. The side drills are tough, so you
will probably use a lot of energy just to take out one of them.

After a side drill explodes, you can use up any leftover energy
to hit whatever the Lock On icon moves to next. Or you can
just fly away immediately. Either way, press L1 to release the
Lock, fly far away to recharge, then come back to attack the
next drill.

While you are far away, just recharge to about half energy. By
the time you fly back and lock on to the next drill, you will
be up to 3/4 energy or more.

While you are recharging, press L1 once in a while to see where
the rocket is. The lasers and missiles are long range, and
the missiles have homing capability, so there's still a chance
you might get hit.

After all three side drills are gone, the rocket's health
should be in yellow.

From here on, it's basically your call. Myself, I fly away and
recharge for one final Spin Attack spam, attacking the rocket
pretty much anywhere. Then, I basically keep close to the rocket
and attack it every chance I get, even when I only have a single
red bar in the energy gauge.

If I think I'm in trouble, I hit L1 to release the lock, and fly
away until I think it's safe to come back.

Remember, if you need to do the rocket battle over again, select
"One More Time" in the Game Over screen. You will *not* have to
fight the space robots or the Blue Knight again.

After the rocket explodes, you will see a short cut-scene and the
final credits will roll.

The story does *not* continue after the final credits.

NOTE: You will NOT be able to save anything you did in Sequence 10.
Even if you save your game with Nora, then talk to Dr. O'Shay at
the Ministry of Science, the game will still ask you if you want
to go to outer space.

The problem was that I could only find two of them. The third
guy was no where to be found.

Here's what you do. Kennedy is always hiding near the
sculpture. Pick up the other two FIRST, and THEN pick up the
kid at the sculpture. 

Abercrombie is usually behind a tree to the left of the
sculpture. Alejo is in the righthand area,  usually around
one of the structure supports. Finally, I picked up Kennedy
at the sculpture.

When I did this, the kids didn't run off, and I got the Card
really quickly.

Cards 19, 21, 9, 22, 23, 17, and 18 are a sequence that must be done
in order. They make up a seven-chapter story of how Astro helps
Sharaku fight several demon-possessed people. The Chapter titles
really don't have much to do with the real story.

The "fight" is actually a cut-scene of the person doing karate
chops while you select Astro's attacks from a menu. You never
actually see Astro fighting.

In Chapter 2, go to Central City and talk to the man sitting
at a table in the center of Central City. Select Astro's attacks
as follows:

X-Ray Vision -> X-Ray Vision -> Punch -> Punch

When the demon aura is defeated, the man will thank you and
give you a Card.

To get the bag back, you need to call the dog's name so it will bark
and let go of the bag that it is holding in its mouth.

To figure out the dog's name, talk to all the other dogs in the
area to get clues.

The other dogs' names are:

ART (in the central area where you see the green drapes)
MAT (in front of the Item Shop)
BEA (near the Sapphire Jewelry Shop)
ABE (near the center of the cross, "curbside")

The clues tell you what letters are associated with different symbols.

The dog's name is ATAE (not "ATOE" as claimed in some game guides).

Find Epsilon (a female robot) on the roof of O'Shay's house.
She wants you to repeat back to her the weather sequence she tells
you. You "repeat" what she says by making selections from a menu
that appears on the right. Each time you select from the menu,
your choice will appear in the text box at the bottom of the
screen.

You must repeat ten sequences. However, each new sequence is
just the previous sequence with one additional word added.

The first sequence is S. 
The second sequence is S -> N. 
The third sequence is S -> N -> E.
The fourth sequence is S -> N -> E -> Windy

And so forth.

The entire sequence is:
S -> N -> E -> Windy -> E -> Hot -> E -> EWW -> S -> N

In Bay Area, fly over the right side of the bridge and find Wally

Talk to the dogs until you find one that says "Woof woof woof!"
Wally thanks you and is about to give you a Card until more
dogs show up, confusing him.

Talk to the dogs again. Find the one that says "Woof woof woof!"
Wally again thanks you. But before he can give you the Card, more
dogs show up. You must talk to the dogs one more time.

The dog that says "Woof woof woof!" is hiding behind the warehouse.

The other dogs mostly say "Woofwoofwoof!" (no spaces) which 
doesn't count.

Wally finally gives you the Card.

"Denkou" (the kid in green pajamas)

Location: Astro's Neighborhood

Cards 19, 21, 9, 22, 23, 17, and 18 are a sequence that must be done
in order. 

There is a dark-complexioned lady standing next to Sharaku who is
possessed by a demon. The minute Astro's name is mentioned, the demon
starts attacking. The "attack" is just an animation of the lady doing
karate chops while you go through the dialogue at the bottom of
the screen. 

For all attacks, select X-Ray Vision.

When the demon aura is defeated, the lady will thank you and
give you a Card.

"Atlas"

Location: Central City

Cards 19, 21, 9, 22, 23, 17, and 18 are a sequence that must be done
in order. 

This is the second demon aura battle. 

In Central City, talk to the woman in the orange dress standing by
a table.

During the battle, choose your attacks as follows:

Punch -> Digibeam -> Digibeam -> Punch -> Digibeam -> X-ray

The demon aura will now recharge back to full health!

When asked what you want to do next, just pick any attack.
Astro will be knocked out of the battle by the demon aura's next
attack. Finish the rest of the cut-scene as if you had won.

Now, talk to the woman again. The battle will resume with Astro in
full health. Repeat the sequence shown above. This time the demon
will be defeated, and you will receive the Card.

In Japan, Astro Boy is revered the way Mickey Mouse is in the US.

Originated as a manga (comic book) in 1951 by Osamu Tezuka 
(oh-SAH-moo TEH-zoo-kah)(1928-89),"Tetsuwan Atomu" (Astro Boy) first
broadcast on television in Japan from 1963 to 1966 as one of the
earliest anime programs. There were two other television series,
one in 1983, another in 2003.

Astro Boy reached the US when 104 of the original 1960s episodes were
translated into English and broadcasted by NBC, 1963-1966. The
1983 and 2003 series were also dubbed in English for US television.

All three English-dubbed series have been released on DVD.

In Sept 2007, Imagi studios announced plans to create the first CGI
feature film of Astro Boy. Release date is tentatively set for 2009.
