Sorry you can't get it any other way. There are no weapons cheats for this game.

Unfortunately, there is no possible way to get the Handcannon without playing through, and beating Mercenary mode. It is really not as hard as it seems, once you get the hang of it, you will see that it is actually very easy to beat. You have to get 5 stars on every level with all 5 characters. I would suggest using Leon on the water world level so that when you get Four stars, you can unlock someone strong like Albert Wesker. After you beat the Mercenary mode with all Five of the characters, it will tell you to go pick up the Handcannon in the Merchant's shop. You can get it on any file, whether it is an old one, or one that you just made, and it will be free if I remember correctly. If you wish to upgrade the Handcannon, then you will have to pay for the upgrades.

Unfortunately the only way to getting the handcannon is getting 5 stars with every charecter in mercenaries mode which aint esay ive been playing since the gamecube version and still hevent got it you just to have to be patient

Depends on what platform. Game cube gives the gun as a reward on completing the professional mode. And with pc gaming u can mod it. But other than those two. Nah sorry man you will have to beat the merc mode

Yes. Do what my son did. Have someone else do all the work (e.g. me) and then copy their save file to your memory card so you can tell your friends (i.e. lie) that you earned it yourself.

If I were you id first unlock all charictors then play as Wesker,Hunk,and Krouser first then after you get fives stars on them go on to ethere Leon first or Ada.
But AGAIN! If I were you id go as leon then Ada because it's kinda easier that way.
Try NOT to get angry if you lose time becouse of the enemies it's just going to make things worst for you.

I hear that you can get handcannon by completeing the game with leon (main story) five times and seperate ways 3 times

According to many sites you can get the handcannon for beating the game twice in either normal or professional difficulty. I used my Action Replay to get the HandCannon, but so far no upgrades for it yet. And it only seemed to appear in Pro Difficulty when I used my AR cheat.
